After a while, Percival moved a little step stool over to the open-plan kitchen and stood on it, rolling up his sweater sleeves.

“Daddy, I’ll help you out.”

“Sure.” Quinn smiled and washed a radish clean before chopping it into pieces as an example for Percival. “Do it like this. After you cut it into pieces, cut it into thin strips before finally mincing it and putting it into a bowl.”

Percival nodded. “I got it.”

Quinn handed him a knife, reminding him, “Be careful when you cut the radish. Make sure you don’t hurt your fingers.”

Percival hummed in acknowledgment.

Quinn’s hands were moving, but his attention was fixed to his son as he watched him out of the corner of his eye. The little boy soon managed to use the knife skilfully and quickly placed the minced radish into a bowl.

Percival then helped to marinate the beef. He looked down and suddenly spoke, “Daddy.”
