***

The moment they got home, Grace didn't have the time to admire or examine the house Mrs. Hail had prepared for them. She was too busy ensuring her mother was settled in with the help of Mrs. Hail. Afterward, she went out with the driver to get some items for the kitchen and clothes for her mother. She felt comfortable leaving her mother alone with Mrs. Hail, knowing she was in safe hands.

For the first time in a week since arriving here, She was able to take a breather. Constantly sitting by her mother's bedside without a night of sleep had taken its toll. Yet, despite the brief respite, she couldn't help but ponder the doctor's ominous words. The way her mother had looked earlier filled her with a sense of foreboding. Something was definitely going to happen.

Then her phone rang. She picked it up, “Hello?”

“Grace?” A familiar voice called out.

“Yes? Mrs. Hail?”

“Oh, thank goodness! You changed your number, why? If I hadn’t picked up your mother's phone, I wouldn’t have known. I’v

    ~~~~After what seemed like an eternity, Grace cleared her throat, feigning ignorance as she stared at her mother."Aha, lover? Where did you hear that from?" Grace asked with a humorless laugh. "No, you’ve got it all wrong; he’s just my boss in New York and nothing else," she lied, her voice wavering slightly. In this situation, who wouldn’t?"Oh, is that so?" her mother replied, her gaze piercing through Grace's facade."Yes.""Then why did Mrs. Hail make it sound like something was going on between the two of you?"Sighing, Grace thought, Seriously, how should I know that? The effort to keep Noah Creed out of her thoughts was exhausting. If she allowed this interrogation to continue, he would be all she could think about, pushing her mother's concerns to the edge."Just ignore her, Mom. Mrs. Hail has a tendency to spread crazy rumors," she replied, standing up abruptly. "I’m done. Let me go freshen up," she added, hoping to divert the conversation.But her mother, ever perceptive,
    ~~Continuation~~As things started to settle down, Grace looked more like an old woman than a young lady. With everything that had been happening, she hadn’t had the time to take care of herself.She appeared rough and haggard. She could count on one hand how many times she had bathed in the past month, and the few times she did bathe were in the hospital, terrified of leaving her mother alone even for a moment as the attacks became more frequent. She couldn't do anything until her mother's condition stabilized.Thanks to God and the doctors' constant care, her mother’s condition began to stabilize, and before long, they were discharged, although Grace was reluctant to leave.Mrs. Hail had returned from her trip and came over to the house. Her mother was already asleep by then."Wow!" Mrs. Hail exclaimed as she stared at Grace's haggard figure on the sofa. "Grace, you look like my grandmother." She said with a shocked expr
    ****Back in New YorkNoah stormed into the office in anger. "What the hell, Mother?" he shouted, slamming the door behind him. "Did I ask you to announce my engagement to the Keynes family? What were you thinking?"His mother, seated calmly across from him, didn't flinch. "What was I thinking? What were you thinking, cutting it off in the first place, huh?" she retorted, her eyes narrowing."For Pete's sake, Mother, I told you there was someone I was planning to introduce to you, didn't I?""Oh, you mean the woman who bailed on you? The same woman you've been searching for these past months? That someone?" Her tone was dripping with sarcasm."She didn't bail on me," Noah snapped, his voice edged with pain."Oh really? Then show her to me, right now," she demanded.Noah sighed, Grace's absence was pressing heavily on his heart. He knew she hadn't bailed on him, but her sudden disappearance was a mystery that haunted him daily. He didn't need his mother to remind him of the hurt."That
    ****Grace woke up with swollen eyes. For the first time in months, she had a peaceful sleep without the usual nightmares. “Thank God for that,” she murmured.She lay in bed for a few moments longer, savoring the rare calm that had settled over her. But the peace was fragile, and as the memories of the past months crept back, she felt the familiar ache in her chest.She knew she couldn’t avoid the reality of her situation forever, but for now, she was grateful for the brief respite.She walked over to the bathroom and sighed sadly as she stared at her reflection in the mirror. She was a mess. Though her sleep was undisturbed by her mother’s traumatic attacks, she still had trouble enjoying it. She couldn’t stop thinking about Noah and his engagement. She was too scared to call him now, not after the way she had left him hanging.Sighing again, she freshened up and decided to stay inside. When she realized Mrs. Hail was already there, her heart sank. She didn’t have the strength to dea
    ****Without wasting time, Noah took her into his arms in a tight embrace. He took a sniff of her hair; he had missed this closeness, he had missed her scent so much, and now that he smelled it again, he felt alive. In his arms, this was where she belonged, and he was never letting her go.Sobbing into his chest, Grace tried to apologize and explain through her tears. “Noah, I’m sorry... I should have said something, but... I—”“It doesn't matter, love," he interrupted, hugging her tightly. "You are in my arms now, and that's all that matters."She pushed back slightly and gazed at him. “I missed you,” she whispered, reaching out for him.Before Noah could reply, she kissed him hard on the lips, her tongue seeking his. He froze for a moment; this was the first time she had taken the initiative.Ahhh... she didn’t bail on him, he knew that for a fact. Then, he kissed her back.Embracing her tightly, his tongue explored the depths of her mouth. She was hot, warm, and sweet. He wanted mo
    ****While Mrs. Hail sat down on the sofa, sipping her hot coffee with ease, Mrs. Bush couldn't stop staring at the man sitting across from her. Despite his unreadable expression, she knew he was nervous; who wouldn't be?She didn’t need to look him up to understand what kind of person he was or the kind of world and power he possessed. Everything about him spelled wealth and power. No doubt, he could take care of Grace better than anyone else. Having been married into a wealthy family before, she knew the struggles her daughter might face. As a mother, she wanted the best for her child, and Lord knew, Grace deserved it.Sighing, she asked, "Seeing how you followed my daughter down here, you must really love her a lot?""Yes, I do," Noah replied without hesitation."You do know that both of you come from different worlds, and you're aware of the dangers it might cause her if things between you become public or go sideways?""I know, and I promise to protect her with everything I have,
    *** The moment Noah led Grace into the room, he pulled her close, unwilling to let her go. As the door shut behind them, Grace clung to him, drawing her face near his. Before he could understand what was happening, she kissed him hard on the lips, moaning and crying out his name."Noah," she sobbed between kisses, her voice filled with a mixture of relief and desperation. "I thought I'd lost you."He held her tighter, his hands gently cradling her face. "I'm here, Grace. I'm not going anywhere."Grace's kisses became more fervent, her hands clutching at his shirt as if afraid he might disappear. Noah could feel the depth of her emotions, the raw fear and longing in every touch. He responded with equal intensity, trying to convey his own unyielding love through their shared embrace.Tears streamed down Grace's cheeks, mixing with their passionate kisses. She pulled back slightly, looking into his eyes, her gaze intense and searching. "I'm sorry for leaving like that, I didn't mean to
    ***Grace came downstairs and found not just Noah and her mother, but also Mrs. Hail, already seated around the dinner table. She knew something would happen; any meeting where Mrs. Hail was present signaled something was off.After exchanging morning greetings, she joined them."Wow, look who decided to join us. You look refreshed," Mrs. Hail blurted out, smiling.Grace blushed and turned her gaze to Mrs. Hail, frowning. "Why are you here again?" she asked."To eat, what else?" Mrs. Hail smirked."Enough, you two. The food will get cold," Her mom scolded them both.And just like that, Mrs. Hail stopped her teasing, and they all ate while chatting about random things.But for some reason, her mother remained silent. Noah and Mrs. Hail chatted away, talking about business and everything else. Grace peeked at her mother, who just continued eating in silence. It wasn’t like her to just eat without engaging in a conversation.Mrs. Bush raised her head and caught her daughter looking at he
    ***Grace watched Noah hurry upstairs. Excitedly, she brought out her phone, but then it suddenly buzzed in her hand, snapping her back to reality. It was her mother calling—perfect timing.With a deep breath, she answered, “Hey, Mom,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady. “How are you doing?”“I’m okay, honey, everything is fine. What about you? Is everything okay with you, dear?” her mother’s concerned voice came through.Grace smiled, tears of joy and anxiety welling up in her eyes. “Yes, Mom. Everything is just fine. I have some wonderful news...” She began to say."That went well." Came a sudden sharp voice, cutting her off.Grace jumped up from her chair, her phone slipping from her hands in shock."Jesus Christ!" she exclaimed, turning to see James. "James? What the hell? You’re still here?" she questioned, shaken.She had thought he left when she didn't hear his voice anymore.James was dumbfounded by the question and just stared at her for a while before speaking. “You a
    ***Grace smiled as she kept glancing at Noah’s mother sideways.Although they had both talked about a few things, Grace hadn’t expected their relationship to improve to the point where they were smiling and happily chatting, or even cooking together. This was someone who once didn’t even want to see her face and had fought against her presence in the company and with her son.Someone who would’ve gone to any lengths to end her relationship with Noah, and now she was smiling and having petty conversations with her?Grace shook her head slightly, still amazed by the change. She couldn’t help but feel a bit of hope that maybe, just maybe, things would continue to get better—at least until she and Noah got married.Mrs. Vera, noticing Grace’s sideways glances, chuckled softly. “What’s with the looks, dear?”Grace blinked, caught off guard. “Oh, nothing, just... surprised, I guess.”Vera’s smile widened. “Me too. I don’t remember cooking being this fun,” she said.Grace nodded slowly. “Me
    ~~~~Noah and James exchanged worried glances as they walked through the open, kitchen door, bracing themselves for the worst. But the scene that greeted them was far from catastrophic.A few shattered glass plates lay scattered across the floor, a small pool of water spreading out from them. Grace, with a cut on her hand, was hurriedly picking up the broken pieces. His mother stood nearby, her face a mix of concern and irritation.“Everything alright?” Noah asked, stepping cautiously into the kitchen.“Just a minor mishap,” Grace said through gritted teeth, her voice steady despite the cut. She flashed a reassuring smile. “Nothing we can’t handle.”Mrs. Vera moved closer to Grace, squatting on the ground. “Let me help you with that,” she said, stretching out her hands, but Grace gently pushed her away.“No, it’s okay. I can take care of it. You might hurt yourself,” she said with a cornered look.“Oh,” was all Mrs. Vera could say.Irritated, Noah snapped, “But you are hurt.” He reach

    ***Later, Noah and James pulled up with a truck full of groceries. Grace saw them and grinned. "Wow, it's more than I expected," she remarked.Noah chuckled as he hopped out of the truck. "We might've gone a bit overboard, but better safe than sorry, right?"James, lugging a heavy bag of vegetables, nodded. "Yeah, we figured it's better to have extra than to run out in the middle of everything," he said as they walked into the house.Grace laughed. "You two are something else. I hope you didn't clear out the whole store."Noah winked at her. "Only half of it. We left some for the other folks."Grace shook her head, still smiling. "Alright, let's get this stuff inside. Dinner won't cook itself."Hearing him, Grace smiled. She and Mrs. Vera had already worked out some things, so she was confident. She turned to Noah with a wide grin. "You'll be surprised.""About what?" he asked, raising an eyebrow."Nothing," Grace said, brushing it off as she inspected the vegetables James was carryi

    ***Noah stared at Grace in disbelief, while James laughed uncontrollably at his expression.The way she was speaking, so assertive and unwavering, sounded like his mother, and he didn’t like the feelings that came along with it. Ignoring James' laughter, Noah turned to Grace.“You really want us to stay here?” he asked, still reeling. He had assumed she was joking, but the determined look in her eyes made it clear she meant every word.“Yep,” Grace replied, walking over to the kitchen, guided by the maids present.“And why the hell would you want that? There’s a big, comfortable house waiting for us, and you want us to stay in this gloomy place?” he demanded, following her into the kitchen. “Yes,” she answered firmly, turning to inspect the kitchen. Despite being swarmed with maids, the pots looked unused. She walked over to the refrigerator and opened it, finding it empty. She turned shocked eyes to Noah. “What does your mother eat?” she asked out of nowhere.The question caught hi

    ***After an hour of driving, they finally arrived at the Creed mansion. And what a mansion it was. As she stared at it, Grace wondered why it was even called a mansion; the place was as expansive as her entire neighborhood. It would probably take a day or two just to walk through it, she concluded.They drove into the compound, and judging by the way the guards and maids were acting, it was clear Mrs. Vera Creed knew they were coming.Without lingering outside, they went in. Noah seemed to be in a hurry, no doubt eager to get it over with, and Grace felt the same way.But the moment he opened the door, a heavy slap landed on his face."What the—" Grace began, but Noah shot her a look, signaling her to stay silent. He sighed as if he had been expecting it."Good to see you too, Mother," he said with an air of resignation, walking in.Grace, still stung by the harshness of the slap, bit her tongue and followed him inside, as did James.

    ***Grace took a deep sigh as she stared into space, her mind a mess. "I can't believe I'm going back to New York, or that Mother allowed me to go just like that," she breathed out.Noah took a deep, happy breath. He, too, was finding it hard to believe that the woman of his dreams was coming with him. "Yes," he managed to say, kissing her hand. "I love you," he whispered in her ear."And I love you too," Grace replied."Are you hungry?" he asked after a while."Yeah, thanks for asking," Grace replied with a smile."Sure, love." He called one host on the plane, and after a short wait, a mouthwatering snack was served.Grace devoured it without wasting any time, and he just laughed at the way she was eating.Now fully settled, she turned to him. "You never told me what happened between you and your mother," she said suddenly.Stunned, Noah turned to Grace, unsure whether to laugh or be serious. "You really do have a knack for knocking people out of their comfort zone," he said, shaking
