James POV
* * * * * * * * *
What's happening to her?
She’s looking around the room frantically as if she's about to pass out.
I look over at Alex, my most trusted friend since we were children, also the Beta of my pack, the Red Moon Pack, the greatest pack ever known with the most ruthless warriors and respected reputation. After Alex's parents died, my family took him in and treated him as their own.
His parents were two of my father's greatest warriors and two of the best fighters in the pack. Unfortunately, they were assassinated when he was only three years old by an enemy pack trespassing onto our lands. Ever since then, Alex has been my brother.
”What's going on with Avery?” I asked him with a worried voice as I tensed my jaw, clutching the handles on the chair I was sitting in, ready to run up to her. A feeling of worry and concern filled my entire being, and my wolf in the back of my mind kept telling me I needed to protect her.
”It was taking too long, brother. I'm getting bored of these people, now run up there, be the hero and let's get going.” His eyes were serious, the edge of his mouth pulling up, making out a grin, and I could feel my blood starting to boil inside.
Then I see Avery falling to the ground, hitting her head on the way down. I quickly fly up from my seat and look at Alex, piercing through his eyes, and he stiffened upon seeing the rage in my mind.
”Alex, I swear, If she's hurt—” He cut me off as he rose from his seat and took a step closer to me.
”Careful there brother, one might start to think you actually care about the girl.” He held a void look on his face and scanned my eyes.
"Brothers or not, Alex, I am still your Alpha. Watch your mouth." He took a step back and bowed his head.
I tore my focus away from him, still wanting to turn around and throw a punch, but deep down, I knew he was right. The sooner we got out of here, the better.
I ran up to her, looking at the woman screaming by her side.
Why does she look so familiar?
”What happened?” I asked in a worrying tone so that she wouldn't suspect that I already knew.
”Somebody had sent over some wine and…then she just collapsed, and I don’t know what to do I—”
I could tell the woman was In shock and starting to panic, so I put my hands on each side of Avery's face, and as I looked down on her, I could truly see her beauty. Her lips were pouty and a light shade of pink, her cheekbones were so high that it looked like something an artist had drawn, and her rounded face, so innocent and pure.
” It's not safe for her here. I live nearby. I'm staying at the Mount Star Hotel I can take here there, away from all prying eyes. She will be safe there.”
I needed to bring Avery with me, but I knew that no friend would let some stranger take care of someone they loved, especially not when they were passed out, so I had to be sleek, and if that didn't work, kill everybody in this joint and then leave with my girl. Wait, my girl? I meant the girl.
'You meant our girl.' My wolf Blade pitched in.
Shut it.
”I don't think that's a good idea. I will take her home. My car is just right outside, and her parents are probably worried.” The girl quietly explained in a low tone as if frightened. But still, I saw no fear in her eyes. On the contrary, she looked more... nervous.
But I knew her parents wouldn't be worried. I knew her parents quite well.
”My parents are good friends with Jack and Madeleine. I can assure you she will be in good hands. If somebody did this to her, they would be waiting to take her. I can protect her, keep her safe until she wakes up.” I felt the features of my face soften as I spoke. I did mean every word.
I could see her face changing as I mentioned Averys' parents. This was it. I was about to leave with the girl.
”You know her parents? Hold on a second.” The girl took out her phone and made a call. I'm guessing it was to either jack or Madeline.
I kept looking at Avery, watching her from top to bottom, then realized that so were the other men standing around us. I looked around at all of the faces staring at her, and a quiet growl came out of my mouth as my eyes turned black and Blade was starting to break out to the surface. I stood up and inhaled deeply, ready to jump every single creep amused by the unconscious young girl lying on the ground.
”ENOUGH! Everyone leaves. Now!” His back straight, head up and arms to his sides with clenched fists and breathing heavily as he stared into the eyes of every single person,
It was Alex. He saw what I was about to do and stepped in to make sure I didn't kill anyone. Though I wanted to, they were staring at her.
They all scattered like rats in panic.
”I talked to Averys' mom, and she told me Avery would be safe in your company. She said she wasn't worried as long as it was you who had her.” Her voice gave away her emotions. She was upset and angry.
The woman held the phone in her hands, gripping it so tightly that her knuckles turned white.
”I will take care of her. I promise you no harm will come to Avery.” I assured her.
I lifted her in my arms and held her close to my chest as we walk out of the house.
I carefully placed her in the car's back seat as Alex, and I got into the front seats, and Alex starts driving off. I can't help but look back, seeing her, even with her eyes closed. Her face was mesmerizing, it's hard to explain, but somehow her beauty lures me in, in a way no other woman ever had.
'You know why; you just won't admit it.'
You're right, Blade. I won't.
Avery POV
* * * * * * * *
I squirmed around as my hands gripped the sheets.
' So soft,' I thought to myself.
I slowly started to open my eyes, the bright light from the lamp made my head pound, and I felt like I was about to throw up. The bedding was soft and cozy. How did I get home last night? The whole night was a blur. As I opened up my eyes more and I looked around the room, I realized that I wasn't in my house, this wasn't my room.
I looked over to the windows where the beautiful drapes were hanging from the ceiling and barely touching the floor.
The bed had four wooden pillars holding up a drape at the top that looked like something from the heavens. The details on the wooden pillars were breathtaking, engraved images of angels and angel wings. And the walls were of white color with gold lining where the wall met the roof.
As I scanned the room, I jumped in shock when I saw a man standing by the door opening to the bathroom with nothing but a towel around his lower body. I closed my mouth and swallowed hard.
Wait, I remember him. It was him, the man from the party.
What was his name again?
Oh right, James.
Holy shit, did he kidnap me!? I felt my eyes widen and my breathing getting heavy and fast.
”Good morning there, beautiful.” He had a small smile on his face, and his eyes were glistening. And that body. I really hope I'm not drooling right now.
I gasped as he said those words and quickly looked under the sheets to see if I still had my clothes on, but I was naked. Nothing was covering my body except for the sheets. I took the sheets with my hand and pulled them roughly to my chest as I used my other hand to hold down on the bed so I wouldn't faint.
Averys POV * * * * * * * * My head kept looking around at my surroundings in shock before I snapped my eyes back at his, my heart beating fast and my mouth open, I licked my lips and shook my head to regain the ability to speak. ”Did we? Uhm…we didn't right?"
Averys POV * * * * * * * * I had just gotten out of the shower and was wrapping myself in a towel. The water had felt so good against my skin. I must have been in there for at least 30 minutes. At one point, I had to hold on to the wall so that I wouldn't fall asleep. Once I got out of the bathroom, I was greeted by a woman in her 40’s. She had a big smile on her face and

Averys POV* * * * * * * *As we came to my room I opened the door and as I was about to close it, James let himself in and then closed it behind him. I went to get some pj’s that Amber had laid out for me, it was more like a nightgown and I hissed at the sight, not really what I was used to wearing. I placed the gown back on the drawer.I quickly got caught up in my ow
Avery's POV* * * * * * * *I woke up to the sun being in through the window, hitting my face with its warm embrace, I opened my eyes and sat myself up on the bed touching the warm floor with the tip of my toes.Today is the day, the day I’m leaving with a family I just met to spend a few days with a man I just met… what is wrong with you Avery? James POV* * * * * * *” Alice went to get Avery. When she comes down I want everybody to be happy and talkative, there should not be any silent moment for more than five minutes or she will have too much time to reconsider the plans. Is that understood?”I said as we were standing beside each other in the dining hall. In a symphony-like way Amber, Alex, Ge
Third-person POV* * * * * * * * * * *The tension was rising as everyone sat in silence. James kept his eyes on Alex and Avery. Alex was fiddling with his hand and not able to look at Avery, seeing how mad his alpha was. Alex gave a shocking glare at James the moment she sat down, he may be a pain in the ass but he is and has always been James' most loyal and trustworthy warrior and brother, as well as the strongest.
Avery’s POV* * * * * * * *We had all eaten and I could tell that my plan of getting under James’s skin had worked, although my whole interaction with Alex was merely about getting to James, I really enjoyed talking to him. Alex was funny, sarcastic, and charming, as far as I could tell he didn't have a serious bone in his body, he was almost like an
When Amber and James returned, we met them downstairs. Amber looked in awe as Malia walked toward her. Alex and his mate came down the stairs, he was holding Isabella and all three of them looked amazing.Alex had taken his role of uncle as an absolute. There wasn't a day that had gone by without him holding her or making sure that she was alright. No one else had been able to hold her, nobody outside the family, he and James were very alike in that aspect. Very protective.”You look beautiful,” Amber said breathlessly as she wrapped her arms around Malia.I bit my bottom lip and hooked my arm with James’s.We walked to the clearing where Lisa, Jackson, Trisha, Raven, Lucas Lydia, and Micheal were waiting. Amber wiped away a tear as she saw what we had done.”Oh wow,” Amber said.”It looks amazing,” James whispered in my ear. Malia guided Amber onto the cliff and grabbed her hands. ”There is nothing I can say that will ever measure up to how I feel about you, but I promise to show
1 week later. A week had gone by since the war, Amber had adjusted quite well to the life of a vampire. The one thing that had been the hardest and continued to be was the fact that Stella was gone. Amber told me how she sometimes tries to communicate with her wolf but then remembers that she’s alone, there's no one in her mind anymore. I know the feeling, I had only had Xena for a few months and had gotten so used to having her there, the biggest difference was however the fact that I got my wolf back, Amber wasn't going to get Stella back. She had nailed almost every vampire ’super power’ there was, including speed, coercion, healing, and strength.Amber was now the one teaching Lucas, who wasn't as thrilled that the student had become the teacher but he seemed happy nevertheless with the bond he had created with Amber. Damien, my brother, had grown close to Alex, the two were running together, playing pool, and whatnot. Alex and his mate seemed inseparable and the big red bite
”I killed my mother, not because of what she had done to me but because I knew what she would do to you. You’re my family, this, these people, you’re all my family. When he hurt you on the field, he sentenced you to death and I couldn’t…I couldn't let you die, so instead, you were turned. We can't be without you, Amber, nobody here can. Your brothers-” She said and Amber's eyes shakily found her brothers. ”-They need you, you three are what’s left of your family and they wouldn't survive without you. Nobody would. Maybe turning you was selfish, because we wanted you to live, but letting you die wasn't an option.” Malia said sternly and let go of Amber's hand. ”So, this will take time and it will be painful and hard but we will get through this. We will help you, Raven will help you adjust to this new life but in the meantime, nobody is going anywhere. We are all here with you,” Raven cleared her throat. ”I actually have to go back, I do have my own responsibilities in my clan,” she
Raven squatted down next to Amber and cleared away her hair from her neck. She lowered her head, her fangs extended, and just as she was about to bite into Amber's neck, her eyes rose and she looked up at James through her lashes. She then punctured Amber's skin, sinking her fangs into her flesh and releasing the poison. When Raven pulled back, we were all standing and watching them. ”Now what?” I asked when she stood again. ”Now we wait for her to die.” Raven said and wiped her mouth with her thumb then sucked the blood off it. I winced and Lydia hulked.”What? I'm a vampire, remember,” she said and rolled her eyes. Raven didn't feed on humans, only blood bags so this must’ve been euphoric for her. I walked to the pool table and placed my hands on the surface, leaning back against it. I wasn't going anywhere, not until we found out how Amber would be.She'd wake up, but as a vampire, everything would be different. Werewolves are taught to hate vampires. Always have been, and pro
Natasha came running into the pack house, William was close behind her but he walked as though we had all the time in the world. Lydia came as well and seeing her was such a relief but we didn't have the time to relish in it for too long. William nodded his head towards me. ”Her.” He said and all eyes turned on me. ”Her what?” I asked him. ”You can help her.””Help Amber? How? I don't even know what’s wrong with her,” I felt helpless, I had become dependent on my magic but I didn't have that anymore. What did I have to could help Amber?’Me’Xena’You have me, Avery. I'm back now and we will learn to work together again’I’m sorry… I forgot’It’s alright, I've been gone for a while’ the sadness clenched my heart. I had forgotten that she was back but to be fair, she had been gone for a long time. ’Not on purpose’ Xena growled.I keep forgetting that you can hear my thoughts. It’s creepy ’Just place your hands on either side of her head’ Xena said as she rolled her eyes. I look
We were heading home to the pack house, I was holding our child and James was walking beside me. It didn't feel real, I didn't know when reality would hit and this would feel normal, perhaps it never would but nevertheless, we had created a life. As we walked into the house it was quiet except for some hushed whispers. We walked into the common area and saw everyone in our family sitting around, waiting.Amber was the first one to come up, she covered her mouth with her hands and looked down on the baby. ”Oh my goddess, you made this,” She said in awe. I laughed and James smiled. Amber held her in her arms and Alex came up to meet his niece.”What’s her name?” He asked. I looked at James.”Isabella-” I said. ”Isabella Lilly Knight.” Alex and Amber both looked at us. Amber gazed at her brother, wiping away a tear.”Your sister and our mother.” She said and nodded her head before watching Isabella again. ”It’s perfect,” she said. ”We never truly met, I'm Chelsea,” It was Alex’s
I didn’t look at James, I already knew the death glare he was throwing Williams way and I didn't want him to see the fear in my eyes. I kept my gaze locked on William, he wasn't bothered by James in the slightest. Both me and James knew that this had to be done, there was no other way and if going through this pain was what I had to do to save my baby girl, then I would and I knew that deep down James did too. I heard a low growl, one that turned all heads to the Alpha. ”It’s okay, James, you know it is,” I said quietly and looked at him. His jaw was clenched and his eyes were hooded but a slight nod, one so small that I would've missed it if I hadn't looked carefully, said everything I needed to know. ”Let’s do this,” I said and looked at William. His gruff expression didn't change, his head was still lowered, his eyes looking up at me through his lashes and his long hair fluttered in the breeze.William closed his eyes, he inhaled, his chest rising and his head lifted. He opened
I felt the power surge through me, having to push away the thought of what the magic was feeding off. ”I’m so sorry,” I whispered to my baby. I felt my hands heating up, reaching my fingertips and I placed them over his heart. The darkness was consuming, it embodied me and I allowed it, allowed it to take whatever it wanted as long as it brought me back my brother. ”Look,” Amber whispered through her tears to Raven. My eyes were closed but I felt it, I felt his pain, his life, his threads of existence and I healed it. I heard a breath and felt his heart beginning to beat slowly, his blood circling, and then I opened my eyes. Alex was watching me with hooded eyes, his shaking hand came up and his fingers wrapped around my hands, squeezing them tightly.I cried even harder. ”You promised you wouldn't leave me again,” I cried and saw how the tears fell from his eyes.Alex's lip tugged upwards but he didn't have the energy to fully smile. I saw in his eyes how happy he was to be al
I drew the fire and had it circling us all, the flames were cutting into thin air and moving vigorously around the enemies. With one hand I raised a shield over Amber and Malia and urged Alex to get himself and his mate behind it. But he was hurt, Alex was still bleeding and his face had turned pale and his lips were blue. Raven saw what I tried to do and with her speed, she grabbed Alex and placed him by his sister and then his mate. I held up the shield but Nicholas looked awfully cocky. Something I didn't like. ”You think you’re the only witch around here?” He asked and brought forward a man, long white hair, obsidian eyes, and an altogether dark expression. He raised his hands, circling them before pushing them up against the sky. The flames were uncontrolled, they were slashing at everything, including my own people. One of the flames cut through the shield and I heard Alex scream. It had hit his mate, her face was burnt.I circled my hands again, regaining control but only f
