Third Person P.O.V

“Have a seat Ms. Aiden,” Mintz requests after the shaking hands “I preferred cafeteria because there is nothing formal,” he chuckles “Make your order,” he smiles when the young lady stops by their table holding the notepad and a pen.

“Iced Americano,” Aiden orders, sitting straight she faces Mintz her lips spreading to a smile.

“I hope you remember me,” he asks leaning forward in interest waiting for her reply as she takes some time to recall her memory.

“I’m sorry I don’t,” rubbing the back of her neck she smiles crookedly as for her weak memory.

“That’s okay,” Mr. Mintz brushes off “I wanted to thank you for your help that day, if it is not for you we would have been beaten to death in the restaurant I guess,” slight wrinkles form at the corners of his eyes when his smile widens “I know that it’s not nice for a girl to be around a guy but I have no one to offer this role,”  adjusting his blue tie he moves forward again “ My son is not safe due to my doing and I’ve noticed that he is being followed by some people lately,”

“Why don’t you inform the cops?” she questions not understanding the situation “Will you mind to elaborate?” she suggests pulling the glass of Americano close to her.

“To be honest I’ve researched your background,” she raises her brows at him as he declared, staying quiet she pays her attention to him “I know your father, he is my client,”

“Client?” she repeats curling her brows curiously “What do you mean?”

“Mr. Johnson is my client and we have been working for a while secretly, it was 8 months ago when he visited me regarding something suspicious in the AIMS company distribution, Mr. Johnson and I tried our best to work on it together get valid proof to the court but unfortunately our case was stopped half way when he was arrested. I know that he was framed for the chemical drug which has been added to the medicine the time reached when I informed the cops check on the manufacturing industry to check the production and ingredients but everything was closed up when he was arrested. He just wanted to keep his family safe and out of this so that he did not inform any of his colleagues as well because he was afraid that neither of them was trustful moreover the prosecutor itself. The major clue which we discovered is that the CEO which is known by all, is not the actual leader ruling around.  I’ve been trying to get in touch with you but couldn’t, fortunately I did. To be honest I’ve been following you for some days spotting you by the warehouse and other building of the AIMS industry,” taking the black leather bag which he placed on the next chair, he pulls out a pair of cards, placing those on the table he pushes it to the opposite direction “It's my business card and name tag,” he informs moving back taking a sip of his coffee he looks at Aiden who picks up the name tag of his work place as a manager in the AIM’s company.

“So, you are lawyer whom dad referred as his friend,” she asks dryly her eyes never leaving the card of his lawyer post “I’ve seen him by your office,” she continues remembering her father by the sixth street. Letting out a loud sigh she tosses the card on the table and moves back resting her shoulders on the chair head “Things wouldn’t have got worse if I could do something,” she states almost speaking to herself.

“It would be even worse if you’ve known,” Mintz leans forward resting his arms on the table “He didn’t want to involve you into this as nothing would be better if you were in charge of our case,” he explains shortly not having the time to go in detail “I know that they have a strong support from the cops. I need your help Aiden,”

“Help?” she repeats the left corner of her lips twitch upwards as she crosses her arms over her chest “Isn’t that something which you all didn’t need,” she sneers, pulling out the straw from the glass she gulps down the Americano leaving the glass empty.

The air between them stiffens when silence takes place as they never face each other for a while “Did you convince dad on the case,” Aiden’s cold voice breaks the silence making them to look at each other.

“Pardon?” Mr. Mintz word comes out low not understanding her statement.

“I mean,” sliding forward from her seat she bites her lower lip her eyes never leaving the person seated in front “Did you seek for help from dad or….,”

“He looked for me,” Mr. Mintz explains “I was in an ongoing case regarding the company, of a victim who was a worker and hospitalized for inhaling toxic chemicals but I failed the case as there wasn’t valid evidence and I couldn’t fetch for any. After a couple of weeks your dad looked for me providing thorough information,”

“Everything makes sense now, he was having a lot in his mind lately before the mess,” she chuckles sarcastically on the thought of being clueless of her father’s act as she was busy with her duty, letting out a sigh she runs her hand through her hair “I never step back from what I’ve started and making them pay for their deeds is what I’ve been longing for.”

The words of Aiden make Mintz smile “Your dad was right,” his smile widens while he nods his head, Mr. Johnson’s words rewinding in his mind.

“What was he right about?” she questions instantly furrowing her eyebrows curious to know the cause of his expression.

“He was right about you,”

“What was he right about me?”

“That? I’ll let you later,”

“Okay, What about my job?”

“Aren’t you really curious to know it?” he chuckles watching her expression showing no sense of excitement “Alright,” he exhales “I’m worried about my son’s safety, I want you to protect him and you can leave him alone at night and…,”

“Why is she here?” the voice interrupts, Aiden and Mintz looks at the direction where Riley walks towards them “Dad why did you call me,” he grumble looking at his father curling his eyebrows.

“I called you bec…..,”

“Don’t tell me that is something about the bodyguard you spoke about lately,”, he interrupts “If you are so worried about it, just drop the case for god’s sake,” his shoulders drop as his upper eye muscle folds under the curled brows “Nothing is going to change if you continue on this, at the end of the day we are going to lose anyways,” his speech makes Mr. Mintz to gulp down his saliva as he closes his eyes and lets out a breath.

“Why do you say that? As a son don’t you have hope in me, do you want me to sit back and watch all their deeds doing nothing,” Riley’s eyes soften, the words of his father hitting in his head.

“Nothing is going change anyways,” he replies after a moment of silence.

Aiden’s eyeballs move to the left and right watching the scene in front of her crossing her arms over her chest not willing to interrupt the conversation of the family.

Mr. Mintz stands his small eyes never leaving his only family left “At least I don’t feel guilty of not trying,” he retorts his voice stern enough to put a full stop to their conversation, turning to his left he passes a smile at Aiden “I got to go, I’ll call you later.”

“Sure,” she nods her eyes following him till his figure moves behind the opaque door of the cafeteria.

“Such coincidence,” Riley says as he flumps on the seat opposite to Aiden, his lips spread to a smile when she looks straight at him, her eyebrows furrowed the thin pink lips never willing to move “Hey,” he calls out grabbing her attention “I’m actually grateful for you but may you……,” he stops hesitating whether to complete his sentence or not, she raises her brows questionably “May you not take this job “ he finally says, his inner being dancing in joy which can be seen by the broad smile glued on his face waiting for her to agree.

“Why should I?” she asks as she pushes the business card of Mintz into her jacket’s pocket.

“It’s because….,”

“See you tomorrow,” she steps aside as she pushes the chair behind not wasting a second to look at him.

Jumping off the seat Riley hops forward following her, who has already exited the cafeteria, his steps widen to match hers “Let me explain,” Riley requests following her, his pants filling in the gaps of the words spoken “It's not right for a girl to follow a guy everywhere, people would think that you are chasing after me because I roam around a lot,” his feet come to a halt abruptly, his eyes widen when his body was about to hit hers at the sudden pause of movement.

“I don’t care of what others think as long as I do my job,” she replies, her words coming out fast which makes him to take some time to re arrange the sentences.

The vehicles pass in a row in front of the bus halt, rolling her eyes Aiden sits on the bench below, spreading her legs she rests her elbows over her thighs clasping her hands, her fingers intertwined.

“Alright you can do your job but this will be embarrassing to me,” he explains his cheek bones lifted which makes his eyes curve while his lips forms to an uneven shape, sliding a little more to his left he bends moving his head closer to hers and says “Please do me this favour, I’ll get you a better job.”

“Why don’t you convince your father instead” Aiden blurts her gaze fixed straight watching the vehicles and the people walking by.

“Why would I follow you around if I could talk to him,”

“I gave him the word,”

“Seriously, why are you so rigid” he grunts under his breath sitting straight he looks up running his hand through his hair “Why is he so concerned about me?” his murmurs come out loud enough to get into her ears “I know to protect myself,” he sighs.

“Protect yourself,” Aiden snickers her eyes still fixed to the busy road “You really can protect yourself,” she laughs softly nodding her head rewinding the scene in the restaurant.

“Hey, what’s with that tone?” Riley stands up looking down at her.

The right corner of her lips twitches up to a smirk when the bus stops by, standing from the seat she walks forward not spending a second to glance at the person talking to her. Holding onto the pole of the bus she stands by the door. Riley follows her inside not bothered about taking the bus for the first time as he doesn’t prefer public transport due to crowd. Standing beside her he glances at her then and there trying to grab her attention to speak but she remains still like he never existed.

Keeping a step closer to her he whispers “Please!” looking around casually at the people where some of them are staring at him “I'll get you a better jo….,” before the pronunciation of the letter ‘b’ his feet wobble backwards unbalanced, a slight scream leaves his lips when his shoulders get in contact on the bus floor as the driver pulls the break all of a sudden.

Leaving the pole Aiden looks down at him hiding her laughter, she looks around at the people where some of them are away from their seat clicking photos of him without offering help. Bending low she moves her arm forward gesturing him to grab it for support “Don’t you know to hold tight while standing,” she utters making sure her words were only audible to him. Taking her hand Riley lifts his body away from the ground a slight smile plays on his lips. The bus pulls over making Aiden to fall over at the sudden movement, Riley curls his toes squeezing his eyes shut when she falls over him.

“Did she just kiss me?” his inner being questions, lifting his eyelids his eyeballs scroll down to see her over him.

Placing her palms at the either side of him she stands, holding the pole she offers him help again which he accepts and gets back to his feet. His eyes forgot to blink as his head rewinds the scene, ignoring his heating up skin he turns to his left slowly taking a glance at Aiden who wears a look of it-was-not-a-big-deal.
