I looked up at Alfred, waiting for his reply, but his phone rang again. Surprisingly, he didn't answer the call and switched it off instead. Then, he turned to me.
"What were you saying?" He asked.
"You canceled your meeting?" I rephrase my question. If I heard it correctly, he canceled his meeting.
"Y-Yeah. I was supposed to meet a friend today. However, it has been canceled earlier. Now, she called me and asked if I was still free. So, I said to cancel it and reschedule to another day."
I nodded in understanding. "I see, but if it's important, you can go. I can manage myself." I grinned as I tried to shoo him off. It's better so I could freely choose the brand of clothes that I would buy.
"No, it's really not important, that's why I asked to reschedule it. Otherwise, I would really meet her. By the way, why are you here? You're supposed to be trying on the dresses."
"Oh, yeah." I moved closer to Alfred and whispered. "Can we go to another clothing store? I mean, the dresses here are so expensive. I couldn't afford to buy it, you know."
Alfred placed his hand on my shoulder. "I think you misunderstood. It is charged to the company. Every employee is entitled to a uniform allowance. So, you don't have to pay anything."
My eyes sparkled. If only I knew about it, I would not have hesitated to try on all the dresses here.
I beamed. "Oh, is it? That was awesome. You didn't tell me earlier about that. Anyway, I'll go and try on the dresses now."
----
The weekends passed by so quickly. It's now Monday, my first day as the Secretary of the Vice President of the Prime Group of Companies.
It's been my ambition to work there since I was in college. Until now, I couldn't believe that it's now happening. I felt like I was dreaming, and if so, I don't want to wake up anymore.
I gazed at myself in the mirror. I love my attire. It's a gray sleeveless v-neck dress, perfect for my fair skin and slim body. It's my most favorite among all the dresses I bought, that's why I chose to wear it on this day. Then, I matched it with black shoes and a slim leather belt.
Then, I brushed my hair into a simple ponytail and put on a light lipstick. I simpered as I felt satisfied with my look.
I took a deep breath before I came out of my room. Alfred was already waiting for me in the living room. I was thankful that he offered to send me to the office today.
"Let's go," I mumbled as I let out a sweet smile, but I felt uneasy the way his steely blue eyes gazed at me.
Sigh. When could I get used to the stare of those steely blue eyes? Nonetheless, I managed to keep the smile on my lips as I walked near him.
"Alright," Alfred stood up from his seat. Then, we went out together.
On the way, I was feeling anxious and excited at the same time. I clasped my hands that had become as cold as ice.
"Are you nervous?" I heard Alfred ask.
"Yeah, a little," I admitted as I smiled thinly.
I was startled when Alfred suddenly held my hands. I could feel that my face turned crimson as my heart had increased its rate. It was embarrassing that he touched my cold hands.
"A little? But your palms are cold and wet."
I quickly withdrew my hands as I explained. "I-It's normal. My hands are sweating every time I feel nervous, even a little."
I heard him chuckle, but he didn't comment anymore.
After a while, we reached the office. Alfred dropped me right in front of the main entrance. He told me to take the elevator on the right side of the lobby to go to the 107th floor, the second-highest floor in the building. It was being occupied by the Vice President, while the 108th floor was the President's exclusive floor. It was called exclusive as not everyone could go there, only the staff who work closely for him.
As I entered the well-designed spacious lobby, I was amazed. It looked classy and pleasing to the eyes from the decor, color schemes, and furnishings.
I let out a deep breath as I entered the lift. This is it. I need to calm myself to impress my bosses. Alfred also told me that I would meet a woman named Lisa. She's the former Secretary of the Vice President, who would train me for my first few days.
Ding! I arrived on the 107th floor. Then, a delicate woman in her thirties welcomed me.
I smiled as I greeted her. "Hi, I'm looking for Ms. Lisa Meyer."
She smiled back at me. "Hello, I'm Lisa. You must be Hannah Simons."
"Yes. I'm pleased to meet you, Ms. Lisa."
"I'm glad to meet you too, Hannah. You'll be working here as my replacement. Let's go. I'll introduce you to Mr. David Scott, the Vice President of Prime Group. He's waiting for you."
"Alright."
Lisa knocked on the door. Then, I heard a husky voice say, come in. As we entered the room, I saw a good-looking man, in his late twenties, sitting in his executive chair. He looked cool in his Italian-made suit.
"Good morning, Mr. Scott. This is Hannah Simons, your new Secretary."
I smiled gently as Lisa introduced me to the Vice President.
Mr. Scott grinned as he extended his hand for a handshake. "Nice to meet you, Ms. Simons. Alexander was right. You're indeed beautiful."
We shook hands, but my forehead creased as I was confused by his remarks. "Alexander? He has already seen me?" I couldn't help but ask.
"Oh, did I say Alexander? I mean, Alexander's friend. He referred you to us. Hahahaha!" He clarified.
"I see. Nice to meet you too, Mr. Scott." I mumbled and smiled at him.
Afterward, we came out of the room. Then, Lisa started to teach me everything that I need to learn.
On the third day, it was our last day of training, so Lisa let me do all the tasks alone. I was fortunate that she was kind and patient. She taught me everything she knows and gave me some tips on how to work effectively as the VP's Secretary. I also learned that she was promoted to another department. That's why they hired a new Secretary.
Moreover, Mr. Scott was really cool. He was not the typical scary Vice President. He was considerate enough to give his staff a work-life balance.
The following day, I was a little nervous as this was my first day to work without Lisa. Sigh. You can do it, Hannah. I told myself. However, when I was in the elevator, I heard the two women babbling about me.
"She's the woman I was telling you. All other Secretaries have been talking about her. She's probably a mistress of one of the bosses as she didn't go through the normal hiring process." The older woman whispered.
"Really? Tsk. Tsk. People are really different now. They would do everything for money."
"I agree." I heard the woman say before they stepped out of the elevator.
I was left dejected. I was not aware that my employment had been the talk of the town. Nonetheless, I tried to ignore what I heard earlier. I need to focus on doing my job.
Fortunately, I took down notes during the training. I was able to check it every time I forgot something. I was able to do my daily tasks well.
In the afternoon, I was drinking coffee when Mr. James approached me. He's the Corporate Sales Manager. Lisa told me to be careful in dealing with him because he's known as the bully in the office. When he didn't like the person, he would surely do everything to make that person's life miserable.
I anxiously greeted Mr. James, but he didn't greet me back. Does it mean that he didn't like me? Oh, Lord.
"Ms. Simons, these are the documents for Mr. Scott's signature. We need it tomorrow morning." He said grimly.
"Noted, Mr. James." I acknowledged as he placed the documents on my desk.
"Ahh!" I screamed as the coffee spilled exactly at the documents that Mr. James laid on my desk.
"What the heck, Ms. Simons? These documents are very important." Mr. James yelled as he grabbed the documents from my desk.
I was shocked. My eyes blinked with incredulity. Did I see it right? He intentionally hit the cup of coffee on my desk?
I quickly stood up as the coffee began to drip on my dress. Mr. James continued to scold me. “What will you do with these documents? These have been signed by most of the bosses. But now you splattered them with coffee. I couldn’t believe that they hired a clumsy Secretary like you." "I-I'm sorry, Mr. James, but it was you who spilled the coffee on my desk." I couldn't afford to stay silent. I knew what I saw. "What, Ms. Simons? Did I hear it right? You're blaming me? If you didn't drink coffee, it would not happen!” He shouted. I was not able to refute.
Alfred got down the car first. Then, he opened the door on my side and handed me a paper bag. "Here." "What's this?" I asked curiously as I opened the paper bag. "Change your dress." Right, it's a yellow dress. I looked up at him and asked anxiously. "W-Where? Here?" Alfred chuckled, which made me blush. "There's a restroom over there." He responded as he pointed in the direction of the nearby restroom.
Alfred's steely blue eyes wandered over my face. Then, he tucked the strands of my hair behind my ear and held my chin with his right hand while his left hand gently pressed on my waist, drawing me closer to him. I was frozen. I couldn't move. I couldn't avoid his gaze. Am I being hypnotized by his steely blue eyes? I asked myself. Lub dub, lub dub, lub dub! Oh my! My heart was like jumping out from my chest. I was so nervous. Was he going to kiss me? Heat rose from my stomach to my chest as his face was getting closer. Then, I caught my breath when I felt his warm gasp against my cheek.
I glanced at Alfred. I was stunned by his question and how he glared at Benj. Was he jealous? I asked myself. I couldn't describe, but an unknown sensation touched my heart at the thought. Nonetheless, Alfred has nothing to be jealous of. Benj and I were just friends. Then, I looked at Benj, who took down his hand when Alfred didn't take it. He didn't respond. I knew that he wouldn't argue with Alfred for what he wanted to imply. So, I was the one who answered. "Of course, it's Han. Right, Benj? Alfred, we've been friends since college." I needed to explain to Alfred for him to understand. "So, it's hon?" Alfred repeated coldly. He gazed intently at Benj
Alfred cleared his throat. "I mean, what I said was true." He clarified as he lowered his voice. It seemed that he realized that he shouted earlier. "Let's forget about it and just enjoy the night," Marga uttered. "Let's sing again." Karen excitedly got the microphone from the other table. Then, they started singing again. I was listening to them as I silently ate the finger foods on the table when Marga approached me. "Where did you meet your husband? He's so handsome, huh? We just saw him now. We're not aware that our President has a charming bodyguard.
I turned around, but I lost my balance when I unexpectedly hit a hard chest. I didn’t realize that he was so close to me. “Ahh!” I screeched. Then, I found myself enclosed in his muscular arms. I looked up and saw his cold, steely blue eyes. I blushed as my heartbeat quickened. Lub dub, lub dub. The time seemed to stop for a moment. After a while, "Hey, you startled me!" I muttered angrily as I stood up and fixed my dress. Then, I looked back at the door. However, it was now closed. “Who are you looking at?” Alfred asked. “I’m trying to peek at the President, and because of you, I was not able to see him,” I explained in an irritated tone. He raised his brow. “Why do you want to see him?” “Hmm... I’m just curious about his looks. By the way, what are you doing here?” “The President is here, so I am her
Alexander’s POV I’m Alexander Ricafort, a billionaire at the age of thirty. My parents died in a car crash ten years ago. Nevertheless, we didn’t believe that it was an accident. We suspected that it was the work of the enemies. However, my grandfather was too old to deal with it, and I was too young back then and still studying in the States. The enemies were powerful enough to fabricate all the evidence and controlled the justice system in the country at that time as well. They were threatened that our family business would surpass theirs. And in order to prevent that from happening, they killed my parents. They couldn’t allow the Prime Group of Companies to become the number 1 shopping mall in the country.
Thursday morning, I was busy with the piles of documents on my table when I heard a knock on my door. I said, come in. Then, John entered with a brown envelope in his hands. He's my assistant and my most trusted among all my men. He was the only one allowed to enter my room aside from my secretary, David, and my bodyguards. "Mr. Ricafort, here's the latest news about the Waltons," He reported as he handed me the envelope. My brows automatically snapped together when I heard that it was about the Waltons. I stopped what I was doing and looked up at John as I accepted the envelope. Walton's family was the greatest rival of our family. The old Walton was my grandfather's best friend. However, he
"Grandpa?" I uttered. Tears stung my eyes. I couldn't believe that he was smiling brightly in front of me. My heart was filled with mixed emotions. I lowered my body and hugged my grandfather. After a while, I raised my head. I glanced at Alex and then back to my grandfather. I had so many questions in my mind that I couldn't manage to ask. My grandfather gently wiped my tears. "Don't cry, my princess. You just gave birth to my great-grandchild." He mumbled in his wavering voice. "I missed you, grandpa. I'm glad that you're fine. I'm so sorry if I left you." I mumbled as I held his hands.
Nine months later. I was preparing for my prenatal check-up when I heard a knock on the door. I glanced at myself in the mirror first and got my bag before I walked out of my room. My tummy was now as big as a round watermelon. Anytime, I would give birth to my baby boy. I was so excited. Everything was ready, from his tiny clothes to his bed. I smiled as I opened the door. It was Arnold. He used to accompany me whenever I would go to my OB since I reached the third trimester of my pregnancy. Although I refused several times, he told me that it's better if I have someone with me, especially now that I would give birth anytime.
When I woke up, I was already lying on the bed in a strange room. I looked around and saw Alex. He was talking on the phone on the balcony. It was already dark outside, so I checked the time. It's ten in the evening already. After a while, Alex ended the call and came back to the room. I sat down on the bed as Alex approached me. "You're awake. How are you feeling?" He asked with a bright smile on his lips. "What happened?" I questioned. "You fainted earlier." He answered, but his smile didn't vanish from his lips.
My heart was pounding tremendously in my chest as I slowly raised my head. I breathed a sigh of relief when Alex finally moved and spoke."Are you okay?" He asked in a soft voice.I gazed at his steely blue eyes as I gently nodded my head. Tears burned my eyes, still frightened of what happened. Thank goodness that he's safe. I thought he got shot since he shielded me when I heard the gunshots."I-I'm s-scared," I mumbled in a trembling voice."Don't be scared. I'm here to protect you." Alex uttered as he wiped
I was certain that grandpa had his reasons why he transferred part of his shares to me and not to my dad. But what's his reason? Sigh. I regretted that I didn't insist on knowing. He was about to say it that night when we had talked. However, it's too late now. I signed the Share Transfer Agreement as I thought that it's a simple document and had nothing to do with me. Moreover, I trusted my dad and Jenna. Little did I know that my own father was plotting against me. I swallowed dryly. Then, I took a d
My grandfather fell into a coma. I didn't know what happened. My parents just told me that he didn't wake up that morning. That's why they immediately brought him to the hospital.Hence, I rushed to the hospital. He was already in the intensive care unit (ICU) when I arrived.I couldn't believe my eyes. He was lying on the bed with several apparatus on his body. We just talked the other night, and he seemed well at that time. How come that he was now in a coma?"Mom, what happened?" I asked worriedly."According to the doctor, he suffered from a stroke while sleeping. It resulted in a coma due to the significant impact on his brain. The doctors are still checking
I took a deep breath before I anxiously turned the doorknob of Alex's office. However, I was surprised at the sight when I opened the door. "A-Alex?" I uttered as my eyes roamed around the room. Mr. Scott, John, and Mr. Adams were also there. They were smiling at me as I stepped into the room. "Surprised!" Mr. Scott exclaimed. "What's going on here?" I asked as I furrowed my forehead. "Guess what? We successfully proved that the renewal of the insurance should take effect even in the absence of the Renewal Advice." Mr. Scott explained while Alex walked towards me and held me on the waist.
My grandfather leaned back on the couch while waiting for my answer. However, I really couldn't find the words to say. I was afraid of what would be his reaction when I admitted the truth. His expression became gentle as he patted my hand. "I will not get mad. Just tell me the truth. Your parents told me that you denied it, but they learned you're seeing him again. So, I want to know the truth from you." "Y-Yes, grandpa. I-I lied to them because--" My grandfather interrupted me. "Don't worry. I understand. You don't have to explain." He uttered with an approving smile.
Alex didn't respond. I glanced at him. He seemed to be in deep thought with his jaw clenched and knitted brows. I didn't speak anymore as I didn't want to give him any more worries. Alex had been very busy the next few days. He looked so exhausted already with dark circles under his eyes. He's still trying to find ways how they could file claims since he would suffer a huge loss if he's not able to get any cents from the insurance company. He consulted their Legal Team and other lawyers for any possible resolution about the matter. Sigh. I couldn't afford to see him like this. And I couldn't just stay silent, knowing that there's a way on how to solve the issue about their insurance claims. Thus I de
