It wasn’t easy working at a slightly bigger company as many eyes were always on her but she didn’t bother about them and concentrated on her job. But life is not fair at all, she wasn’t treated well at all but she kept on hanging there as leaving the job there will just be the end of her.
She didn’t want to go back to her town and work there, those people there were simply hateful and she didn’t want to face their scornful eyes daily and watch as her parents suffer in agony because of it.
On this particular day, Juanita woke up and rubbed her eyes as she yawned. She was so sleepy as she slept late, it was a Friday and yet it felt as if it was a Monday. Her superiors gave her too much yesterday and she failed to finish it even at work, so she was forced to bring the work back to her one-room apartment.
Juanita worked on it, fighting so hard to take a nap until it was around three in the morning when she was done. And now she was waking up again around five in the morning as she has to prepare for work.
She forced herself out of the bed and sleepily walked to the bathroom with only a showerhead and stood beneath it after taking off her clothes. After five minutes, Juanita was out of the shower.
She put on a robe and went to the kitchen where she cooked quickly some food to eat and carry to work. She was someone who carried a lunchbox and rarely bought food as it was expensive to her.
All her money was being saved so that one day she will get that cosmetic surgery and become beautiful once more. It is just that the money needed was way too high and it was going to take some years for her to save it.
She didn’t deal well with loans as she was still terrified of the loan that her parents were paying for her previous surgery. After packing her lunch, it was already six, so she rushed to change her clothes, and packed her bag.
When Juanita locked her apartment door, it was already seven o’clock in the morning. She walked to the substation and this took fifteen minutes of her time.
The train took twenty minutes to reach the station where she was getting off and after taking a walk for ten minutes again, she reached her workplace place. Every day she will reach work around this time and she was never late as work starts at eight in the morning.
She sighed in relief as she sat in her chair and took out the documents she needed to review once more before handing them over to her superior. Juanita buried herself in her work once more and didn’t realize as these colleagues of hers were shaking their heads.
“How I wish I was like the manager; I will just drop my workload at Juan and let her do the heavy job for me. This way, won't I have some time to go on a date with my boyfriend?” a girl wearing a fancy blue suit spoke as she looked at Juanita who was dressed casually and cheaply.
“Then get promoted first besides you can still hand over your work to her later when the manager is done with her,” the girl in brown suggested with a sly look in her eyes.
Everyone hated Juanita a lot, she was so ugly but hard-working and because of that, they didn’t like her. The manager will always give her work to Juanita even though it was wrong but no one could say a word about it.
Juanita was easily bullied and yet every single time her results were so good it brought envy from everyone. Because she was an assistant, all her hard work was never directly rewarded to her as those selfish colleagues will take all the credit.
When they thought that she will quit and leave, she still kept on hanging on and they still wonder why she was being this way. It wasn’t that she liked being there but she also wanted to leave and find somewhere better but her circumstance won’t allow her to do that.
It was only after an hour that Juanita looked up after her name was called by the manager. She happily took the documents she had printed and brought them to the office.
As long as she kept this woman happy then maybe next year she will be promoted and her salary will also rise. This is the reason why she never complained but worked hard even when she knew that they were using her.
“Good morning, ma’am,” Juan enthusiastically greeted her superior and her voice was filled with no malice but pure sincerity and adoration.
The manager hated this young woman a lot and saw Juanita as a threat and she had done her best to do all the bad things she could think of but Juanita was possibly a fool and didn’t see the hints.
She had been trying for months to chase her away and finally, her prayers were being answered. She had attended a lot of meetings but this was the first time she attended a meeting she enjoyed so much; she couldn’t wait to return to her office to brag.
“Umm, morning. Please take a seat,” the manager politely spoke as she didn’t want to spook the other.
Juanita didn’t sense anything wrong and simply sat down in the chair and placed the documents she had meticulously worked hard on for hours with no sleep and proper rest.
“I am done with the work that you gave me and I have checked it numerous times and there are no mistakes. You can check it!” she happily told her superior hoping to get a compliment but what she received made her doubt about life.
“Umm, that is good. I didn’t call you for that but something else. Today in the meeting, the boss announced that we will be letting go of some employees and you are one of those who will be leaving. The company, of course, will not bully you and you will be paid three months’ worth of your salary since you were not yet a permanent employee of the company,” the manager announced slowly enjoying every single moment of delivering this news.
Juanita’s mind was blank after hearing this horrible news. After everything she had done for this company, they were just kicking her out as if she didn’t mean anything just like that!
How can they treat her that way?
She wanted to vent out her anger but she knew completely that she didn’t have many rights in this case. Because she was not yet a permanent employee, she could only accept what was being handed to her.
Even if she fights them, she was the one on the losing end and in the future, she will probably be blacklisted.
She looked at the gloating expression of her manager and laughed sadly, “since this is what the company had decided then I will oblige.”The manager couldn’t believe what she was hearing, she thought that Juanita will lose her cool and throw a tantrum, and then she as a manager will use her authority to have Juanita thrown out of the company in an embarrassing matter.“Hehhh!”“I will go and clean my desk and stop by the H.R to collect what I was promised,” Juanita said in a low voice as she stood up.It wasn’t that she didn’t want to fight but she was just too tired, she was so sleepy and dighting wouldn’t give her any benefits at all. At least they were giving her three months’ worth of salary otherwise she didn’t know what she will do after this. The manager watched as Juanita left her office without causi
Since this flyer followed her here maybe it was for a reason, she reasoned with herself as she sat back on the bed.“Since you followed me all the way here, I will ready you and see what is so important that you stuck onto me like a leech,” she said to herself as she looked intently at the flyer. She began to concentrate as she read the flyer and what she saw made her laugh with so much sarcasm, she wanted to kill somebody.“Have you ever wondered why you are so different? Why everyone looks at you as if you don’t belong? Don’t fret the chosen one, you were born for greatness and this is your time to shine. Click onto this web and take this chance to change your fate and destiny! You only have twenty-four hours………contact @ *********”This was simply BS and Juanita wasn’t buying it anymore. On this day, she had gone through so much she fel
Juanita was still in shock and thinking that she had seen wrong, she read the contents repeatedly until she was convinced that everything was real. She dismissed the email and a menu icon popped up again.Since everything was real and this was a treasure to her and she was the owner of this place, Juanita was now calm. There was no way that she had been abducted since she could get here, it also meant that there was a way for her to go back to her house again. She began to look into the menu icon to see what more this screen could do. Juanita read everything she could and the more she learned about this farm, the happier she was. This was the best thing that happened to her ever. She no longer felt sad about being fired and her day going wrong. If all of that had not happened, how was she supposed to encounter such a miracle?Juanita learned that the farm was special and so good. She didn’t nee
Juanita was in a good mood after eating her food, she washed the plates quickly and dried them before putting them back into the old, blue kitchen unit that was on the verge of falling apart. She went to the bathroom and bent down to do some laundry. It was good that the clothes were not a lot and after all that soaking, the clothes were clean so all she had to do was rub and rub and then rinse them. She was done in less than an hour and she went outside to hang her clothes. Looking at the bright sun outside, she was in a good mood. It was spring and the price of fresh produce was high. And thinking of selling her goodies in the future, Juanita happily hummed a tune as she returned inside the house. The neighbor who had come out to throw some trash, couldn’t help but look at Juanita with a strange light in her eyes.“What is wrong with that girl?” she wondered but brushed it aside a
Juanita spent the remaining days before she moved out, planting her rice, harvesting it, and getting rid of the things she didn’t need. She also applied for an online store on Baobab and this process was going to take a week.Only her details were needed so she didn’t need to worry about anything or register an address. This online store was good especially for people with no physical registered places for a selling point. It wasn’t as complicated as when one was opening the company and the capital needed wasn’t much as well. So, while she waited, Juanita cleaned up her whole house and sold a few appliances she didn’t need.On the last day of the month, she handed the keys to the landlord and walked out of the apartment she had been living in for over a year with just a suitcase of clothes.“Where did she put her things?” the man asked curiously as he watched the tenant, h
Juanita jogged happily to her parents seeing the love, warmth, and longing in her mother’s eyes. She had missed the woman so much and it felt good seeing her after not being home for a long time.“I am home, mother!” Juanita excitedly announced as her mother’s warm embrace enveloped her.“My baby is back, let momma look at you,” Pearle excitedly spoke as she looked at her daughter to see if she was in a good condition.Juanita giggled happily and let her mother look at her all she wanted, after a minute or so, Pearle finally stopped and took the suitcase from Juanita.“Mother, I can carry it. You don’t have to,” she tried to dissuade her mother but the old woman shook her head in rejection.“I am still strong, let mommy do this for you. Come along, your daddy should be on edge by now,” Pearle laughed as she looked
Juanita looked at her dad’s worried face and sighed, she didn’t want anything bad happening to her parents or watching them getting depressed especially when she was the root of all the problems.“Dad, I will be here for like a week or two. I resigned from my previous workplace and will be going to Zlila for something better,” knowing her parents well, she doubted if she could hide from them any longer so it was better for her to come out clean from the word go.Randall wasn’t surprised much but Pearle who was done washing the plates, yelled in surprise, “darling, why did you resign?”Juan looked at her mother in a defeated manner, “it wasn’t working well there so I decided to leave and look for greener pastures somewhere else.”Pearle looked at her daughter and felt her heartache for her, “were they bullying you?”Juan ch
“Mom and dad, I know that you mean well for me and you want the best for me but you need to know that as long as you are tiring yourselves, working so hard to pay off the debts that were incurred around six years ago for me; I feel so sad and it really hurts a lot,” Juan looked at her parents as tears streamed down her cheeks.Pearle and Randall held each other’s hands as their hearts raced as they listened to their child airing out her grievances to them.“I have been like this for six years, I lost so many things and have been looked upon so many times that I got tired of it. All I wanted was to be normal again, to be able to take a photo and smile brightly. I also want to walk out there proudly without being looked at like a clown but the reality is just scary. We can’t afford the money, I have saved for six years, and yet it isn’t even a tenth of the money needed, and by now the money should have risen
