BROOKE

The silence in the living room was louder than the wolves howling outside.

Mother was stewing where she sat, reading through a Gucci catalogue and swiping every page like she had a grudge against them. But we both knew her anger wasn’t with the catalogue in her hand, she was too obsessed with luxury items to be pissed of by them.

In fact, I think she was looking at them in a bid to calm her nerves but it clearly wasn’t working.

After what we’d both witnessed at the Mahoney Charity Ball yesterday, there’s no way she could be calmed unless she found a more appropriate vessel to channel of her anger to. And from experience, that was always me. I was always the bin for all her hideous emotions, whether I was the cause of it or not. It’s like she birthed me to be a dumping ground for all her bullshit.

Last night, she had high hopes that Ace and I would take a picture on the red carpet that would blow up on all newspapers and magazines in circulation, but neither of us were able

NICKI might as well be going crazy with the amount of time I dedicated to thinking about April Lawson. It wasn’t planned but these days, I find myself constantly thinking about her.About her being, her face, her smile, her laughter, her voice, her lips that looked like they should always be wrapped around my cock, her mouth that felt like it should always be moaning my name while I drive her body crazy with pleasure.I haven’t been able to get our last personal encounter out of my head. When I blindfolded her and ate her out to my heart’s content. It was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever done and it was something I wanted to do over and over again.I’ve never been able to get that single encounter out of my head and each time I think about it, I always end up with a boner. A boner that I always take care of while thinking of all the nasty ways I’d like to claim her over and over again. I was spotting a boner but I couldn’t take care of her because I was in public.Watching April f

NICKApril’s question brought me back to my senses in seconds. That’s when I realized that she wasn’t meant to see me, that I should’ve never jumped out of my car or shown myself. I wasn’t thinking when I approached her because that bastard pissed me the fuck off, and now I had to find a way out of this mess without her swing me as some sick creeper. “I was just in the area running an errand,” I lied, hoping it was convincing enough to get her off my back. But judging from the way she was looking at me, it was clear that she didn’t buy a word of what I said. “That’s not true and we both know it. This isn’t an area you have any business being in, and if we’re being sincere, you almost never have to handle any errands because you have an endless line of workers that handle it,” she dissected my lie immediately and left me speechless. I weighed my options quickly. It was either I tell her the truth and risk her getting pissed at me and seeing me as a weird stalker, or I could lie a

  • PLAYTHING OF THE ALPHA PREDATORS   65: Happy Birthday, April

APRILI checked out myself one last time in the mirror before grabbing my purse and heading out of my dorm room.Nick texted me that he was in the parking lot about a minute ago, and for the first time, I wasn’t bothered about what people would say when they saw me getting into his car. When we were making plans about when we’d meet up today, he suggested picking me up behind the dorms which would be more discreet just so I’d be comfortable, but I refused that idea. It was starting to seem like Nick’s presence in my life wouldn’t be fleeting or inconsequential as I’d thought, so it was best that I got used to being seen with him now because we couldn’t possibly continue to cower and hide from preying eyes for the entirety of our friendship. Speaking of friendship, I wasn’t sure if we were going on this date as friends or something else. But I was sure to find out soon, depending on the nature of the date. “Over here, gorgeous,” he hopped out of the driver’s seat once I got to the p

APRILEverything around me stopped as the cake was placed right before me. It felt unreal. As simple as the gesture was, it gave my inner child a million hugs and had her keeping for joy within me. I blinked repeatedly, willing myself to find a worthy reaction to the cake before me. It was so beautiful and coated in my favorite color; red, while the inscription was in gold. It looked like something fit for a queen and nothing less, and it had my heart soaring like crazy. In the background, I could faintly pick up the fact that the staffs were singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to me, but all I could focus on was the cake staring back at me. My reaction of being completely floored might’ve seemed over the top for any one watching, but if they realized that I hadn’t celebrated my birthday in years, they’d understand that it was completely justified. Ever since my father’s death, I hadn’t celebrated a single birthday. My mom paid no attention to me whenever I reminded her about my birthday a

  • PLAYTHING OF THE ALPHA PREDATORS   67: Another Fantasy Fulfilled

APRILPeople tell stories of going to heaven and returning, and most times, no one believes their tales. On my part, I didn’t need anyone to believe my tales, but it was hard not to want to tell the tales of the marvelous ride through bliss that Nick had taken me through. Indeed, I went to Heaven, and I frankly didn’t want to return back to earth. Nick definitely wasn’t joking when he said I would pay for teasing him back at the restaurant. The things he’d done to me were worth testifying about on an altar, rallying an audience and singing his praises as well. Maybe I was overreacting about it, but anyone in my shoes would do the same after experiencing multiple mind blowing orgasms in a row. Once we got back to the house, he’d kissed me like I was his life source, ravaging my entire body and littering me with the sweetest praises. Then, he reminded me of his promise from last time to fulfill a fantasy of mine each time we hooked up. Happily, I indulged him. I’d enjoyed how Ace

  • PLAYTHING OF THE ALPHA PREDATORS   68: Are you in love with her?

NICKEven after driving April back to the dorms the next day, her energy lingered around me and put me in the best mood imaginable. I was on an all time high, one that superseded the kind anyone could get from countless hard substances and I knew that because I had the kind of friends that made me try them all for the fun of it while we were in high school. But the feeling of those substances paled in comparison to the high that came from spending a wonderful day with the girl I liked more than anything in the world. Most of the day went by beautifully, with me doing all my tasks while humming excitedly and replaying the events of the past day countless times over. Evening came and I was still in an amazing mood when I got a text from Xander asking me to come over for a gaming marathon night. It’d been a while since we did any of those, so it seemed like the perfect end to an already wonderful day. However, when I walked through the doors of Xander’s house, his expression told me

APRIL I turned on my phone last night so I could focus exclusively on Nick and all the butterflies he sent scattering through me from the moment our date began. So, as soon as he dropped me back at the doom and we said our goodbyes, I turned my phone back and was surprised to find a couple of missed calls from Xander. When I scrolled a little more through my notifications, I saw a text from him. Xander: My place, 8 pm. Don’t be late. Even though countless orgasms had just been milked out of me last night, I still found myself feeling excited to honor his invite, or order. The reason for my excitement was mostly because I’d get to see Nick again. All day, I was in the best mood ever after the amazing birthday I’d celebrated the day before. Still, I was looking forward to 8 pm more than anything. One would think I hadn’t seen Nick in ages, but it’d only been a few minutes since we’d parted ways. Yet, every minute of the day made me miss him more and more. So, after hearing say th

XANDERAs soon as we were done wrecking April’s tight holes, Ace had to leave for a dinner date with his family and Brooke’s. April washed up and changed into my clothes a while ago, and now she was scrolling through channel after channel on the TV while barely paying any attention to me. That allowed me to watch her to heart’s content, and it was so enjoyable because I realized sometime ago that I really liked seeing her in my clothes. The way my basketball jersey fit loosely around her slender frame, the enticing way that her perky boobs lifted the front of the jersey, how her small adorable feet stuck out of my joggers as she swung them absentmindedly, and the knowledge that she smelt like me whenever she had my clothes on. All of that flooded me with a level of satisfaction that should be Illegal. The most disturbing part of it was that this wasn’t the first time, I’d realized how much I enjoyed watching her move around in my clothes a while back, and I’d been ignoring it, but

  • PLAYTHING OF THE ALPHA PREDATORS   EPILOGUE

PROLOGUEAPRIL“Sandy, stop making your brother cry. You promised that you wouldn't do that today, remember?” I groaned as my oldest child terrorized her little brother. She shrugged, laughing, the mischievous glint in her eyes matching that of one of her dads whose character she’d inherited; Ace. “It’s so easy to make him cry, I promise I wasn't even trying. I’m just being myself,” she flipped her dark lush hair over her shoulders, the glossy and stunning sight also resembling that of her fathers. She was such a daddy’s girl that she took every last bit of her being from them; her drop dead gorgeous looks and her fearless, stubborn personality. According to her dads, she got her stubbornness from me and not them, but I refused to believe that. “Sweetheart, putting a worm in your brother’s shoe doesn't count as being yourself,” Nick stifled laughter as he walked into the living room, dressed handsomely in suit that was identical to our son Samuel’s. “I’m a prankster and an anima

APRIL“Well, it’s a good thing I know exactly where that asshole is,” Nick’s mom said, the anger in her voice superseding his.At least Xenia’s trip across the world had proven to be the answer to our problems. But now, we had yet another broken hearted mate to add to the mix, and just like me, the pain sprung from parental issues. However, there was no time to dwell on that. The moon goddess had given us an opportunity to reclaim the peace in our city, so we had to focus our all on that. After the city was secure, we'd find a way to tend to our broken hearts and find the emotional healing we all deserve. But for now, all that mattered was find Nick’s monster of a father and putting and end to his evil attacks. “Are you sure this is the place, mom?” Nick asked as we pulled into the empty driveway of an abandoned factory in the middle of nowhere. “I'm certain. I'll never forget it because I traced his assets all over the city in a bid to uncover proof of his evil agenda, but he cau

APRILWe all followed behind him, running until we stopped outside what seemed to be a prison cell. There was a woman dressed in tattered clothes and covered in dust cowering in a corner and hugging her knees to her chest, and something about her was oddly familiar. My mates also seemed shocked by her presence, but not in the same way that I was. The look in their eyes told me that they knew something about this mystery woman that I didn't know. Before I could even ask about it, Nick grabbed the iron bars and broke them off with a deep growl before running into the cell and wrapping his arms around the woman. That? That was the most confusing thing I’d ever witnessed. And I needed answers right now.I started to stomp towards the cell when Nick said a word that made me freeze in place, understanding washing over me in a thousand waves. “Mom! It’s you!”I blinked repeatedly, awfully confused. “Mom?” Ace and Xander looked away from the emotional reunion unfolding before us and nodd

APRILGlinda was confirmed to have been dead for good, but our hellish experiences still didn't cease after her death. Personally, I was still grieving my mother and the wonderful life I would've enjoyed with my parents if she hadn't swooped in and turned things upside down. My mother’s burial was an emotional moment for me and I broke down completely while delivering the eulogy. The guys even had to come upstage and keep from falling apart some more. The days that followed weren't any greener, especially with the dark void around the city worsening and swallowing us into a vortex while I was still grieving.Of course we were terribly confused as to why the spiritual attacks had carried on even after Glinda’s death, but no one had a reasonable answer to that. It was fucking frustrating having to watch people in pain almost every damn day. It sucked the humanity out of one’s soul and replaced it with nothing but bitterness. The only thing that was clear to me about the pattern of

APRIL“You rotten lads, you couldn’t just mind your damn business? This is your fathers’ karma, why did you have to dig your stupid snotty noses in it?” she hissed angrily, overly displeased that she’d been found out by us.“We should be asking the questions,” I responded, upset that she hadn’t even made an effort to explain herself, “we came here thinking this whole fiasco was orchestrated by Glinda, only to see that it’s you, mom?!” The disappointment in my voice was thick, but she obviously didn’t give a shit about my feelings because she broke into hysterical laughter. “Mom? I’m not your fucking mom you idiotic little whore,” she rolled her eyes, and then she snapped her fingers, causing her face and physical appearance to warp instantly. Suddnely, she was a silver-haired woman with countless ancient tattoos of the moon and a shiv stuck in her heart that told us more than we needed to know. Later on, the Alphas had given us a more detailed tale of the day they finally took dow

APRIL It’s been almost a month of back to back horrors breaking out in the city. We’d successfully chased the rogues out of the city and the sorceres were stationed alongside the armies by the borders, making sure that no more enemies were able to breach our defenses and get in.Heaps of bodies had been buried over the weeks and the entire town was reeking of grief. Loved ones were being mourned in different corners of the city were candles were lit beside framed photos and bouquets of flowers. Each photo of the dead that I saw brought me close to tears, but for children’s photos, my heart literally ached and felt like it was going to explode. Living in a place that was shrouded with pain and darkness was suffocating. Even though the sun came out each day, it felt like there was a dark void enveloping the city because everyone was in a sunken mood. We had to find Glinda and put an end to her attacks before the city was ruined beyond saving. Our search for her so far has proven fu

APRILThe ticking clock in the ICU waiting room was the only audible sound.Xander had been taken in for an emergency operation a while ago and we were still waiting to hear back from the doctors. When we arrived at the hospital, he was barely breathing, and it seemed like they might’ve stopped his heart for the surgery because I couldn’t feel even a shred of his presence through the bond. On our way to the hospital, we’d dropped Natalie at one of the safety bunkers where security and magic borders were keeping people safe. If she was here, she’d have been a great distraction for me. And god, I’d do anything to be distracted from this godawful unending pain. My chest fucking hurt. Every nerve in my body was on literal fire. My head was pounding as though a line up of high school bands were in a competition. All I could think of was the pitiful state we’d found Xander in a while ago. The way he looked helpless and near death’s door. The way his blood was like a second skin masking

APRILThe city was a mess. A bloody one.“Natalie, stop using your fucking phone or you’re going to get us killed,” I whispered to my best friend whose face was a mess of dry tears. She glared at me. “If I’m going to die, I need Hector to know that he was the best sex I ever had and I always wished we became more.” I frowned at her, both disturbed and confused that she’d picked that as the most important thing to put in order in a life and death situation. What a freaking clown.“Nat, I’ve told you a thousand times, you’re not going to die,” I bit out, “Nick asked us to stay hidden here and he’ll come get us, and I know he will.”I reminded her of the instruction we’d gotten almost an hour ago when chaos broke out in the city.Apparently, some rogues breached the city’s gates and began to brutally attack every living thing in sight. They've been killing anything in their way and no one is exempt from their wrath. Not women. Not innocents. Not children. Not animals. It was a battle

XANDER Today, just like every other day for the last two weeks, we’d split up to search for Brooke. April was able to fully recover from the effects of the poison she was heartlessly fed by Brooke after a full day or more. Once we were certain that she was in a perfectly healthy state, we decided to go on a hunt for Brooke to make her pay for hurting our precious mate.No one seemed to know where she was. No one had seen her since she ran off that day. Even the city cameras had no footage of her since that day. It was almost like she’d vanished into thin air after that day, but we refused to give up on our search. We even had the authorities officially interrogate everyone she knew, especially those she worked with at her modeling agency, but no one had any reasonable information to share with us that would narrow her search.Even her personal assistant only heard that she was missing from us, he’d assumed she was taking a mental health break when she didn’t come to the office for
