Chapter four

Just as Elena reached the door, it swung open, and Alan stepped out his eyes locked onto Elena's.

"What's going on here?"Alan's voice boomed.

A fierce smile spread across Elena's face."Hello Alan, it's nice to see you, you cheating bastard."

And with that, she stepped inside, the door closing behind her.

Their divorce lawyer, Mr. Johnson stood by the window, his briefcase at his Elena's heels clicked on the floor as she approached him, her hand extended."Mr.Johnson.I see you are already here."

Their hands shook in a firm handshake, his eyes boring into hers."I will be been expecting you, Elena."

And with that, Elena released his hand, her eyes shifted to Alan, then back to him.

"Shall we get started ?"

Elena sat down in the leather chair, her eyes fixed on Alan as he sat across her.

Mr.Johnson cleared his throat, his pen balanced over his notepad.

"So let's get started," his voice neutral."Alan, you wanted to discuss the settlement for Elena."

Alan nodded, his jaw clenched."I will give you two million dollars."

Elena's eyes narrowed."Two million? I want a fair share, Alan, nothing more nothing less"

Mr.Johnson's eyes moved quickly between them, his expression calm."Let's focus on the facts, shall we? How much do you want, Elena?"

Elena's gaze locked onto Alan's, a cold smile spreading across her face."Ten million dollars."

Mr.Johnson's eyes widened slightly, his pen held about his notepad."I see, "his voice low.

Alan's voice was icy."You'll get nothing, Elena. If you insist, you get nothing but the clothes you left with."

Elena's smile grew wider, her eyes glinting with a triumphant light."Okay then, let's sign the papers Mr.Johnson."

Mr.Johnson's eyes moved quickly between them, his expression growing increasingly uneasy."Okay, let's take a deep breath and...."

But before he could finish, Alan leaned forward, his voice dropping into a menacing whisper."I'll make sure you never see a dime, Elena.Never."

Mr.Johnson leaned forward, his voice firm but cautious."Alan let's keep the discussion civil."

But Alan's gaze remained fixed on Elena, his eyes burning with fierce intensity.

Elena smiled, her voice low."I don't care about your money Alan. But I promise you, you are going to regret letting me go."

Mr.Johson's hands moved quietly, pulling out a stack of papers from his briefcase. He cleared his throat his voice formal."Now let's proceed with the divorce agreement."

He slid the papers across the table, his eyes avoiding the tense couple. Alan snatched the pen, scribbling his signature with Elena's hands trembled as she took the pen, her eyes welling up with tears.

As she signed, a single tear escaped falling onto the paper like Elena's breath hitched, her hand signing the paper as she struggled to compose herself.

Mr.Johnson's eyes softened, his voice gentle."It's almost over, Elena. Just one more page."

Elena's gaze remained fixed on the paper, her tears falling like silent accusations, each one a reminder of the shattered vows and broken dreams.

As the papers were now signed and the divorce finalized, Mr. Johnson's expression turned sympathetic. He extended a hand, his voice soft."I wish you both the best."

Elena's eyes welled up again, her voice barely audible."Thank you, Mr.Johnson."

Mr.Johnson gathered his briefcase and papers. He cast a glance at Alan, and with a slight nod, he turned and walked towards the door, stepping out into the brighter, calmer hallway.

Alan's face twisted in disgust."Get out, Elena. You're no longer welcome here."

He pointed a finger towards the door, his voice rising."You're not even allowed on the premises! You're nothing but a reminder of my mistake."

Elena drew back, her eyes flashing with pain. She took her bag and moved to the door. As she reached the door, Alan's voice cut through the silence.

"Go to hell"

The door closed behind her with a soft click as she hurried to the bathroom.

Elena's feet moved swiftly, her heels clicking against the floor as she hastened down she pushed open the bathroom door, slipping inside just as a sob escaped her lips.

She leaned against the sink, her body shaking as tears streamed down her face. She buried her face in her hands, her cries muffled by her palms.

After a few moments, she straightened up, her eyes red and puffy. She gazed at her reflection, her voice barely above a whisper."What did I do to deserve this?"

She wept. Grabbing a paper towel to wipe away her tears. Her eyes still filled with sadness, but she took a deep breath and began to repair her makeup.

Elena's fingers moved slowly, applying a fresh coat of lipstick and smoothening her mascara. She slid her sunglasses onto her eye.

With a deep breath, she turned away from the mirror and pushed open the bathroom door. She began to work, her heels clicking against the floor in a steady rhythm.

As Elena approached the entrance, the glass doors slid open. As she stepped out to the entrance, a fleet of cars pulled up to the entrance. Bodyguards in tailored suits stepped out, their eyes scanning the surroundings before fixing on Elena.

A chorus of gentle bows spread through the gathered bodyguards.

A limousine, its black paint gleaming, eased forward, its rear door swinging open with a soft creak. A young man, his suit perfect, stepped out of the limousine.

He offered a graceful smile, his hand extended in a gesture of welcome. He took long steps towards her, his face filled with a warm smile.

As he reached her side, he opened his arms, hugging her in a warm embrace.

"Hello sis," he whispered.
