It happened so fast. One of the servants moved my pillow, and there it was—Isabella’s prized jewel, glinting in the dim light. My heart dropped into my stomach.

“What the—” I froze, my mind racing. No. No, this can’t be happening. How? I didn’t put that there. This doesn’t make sense.

For a second, I couldn’t speak. All I could do was stare at the shiny, expensive object in front of me like it was a bomb about to go off. I could feel the eyes of the people behind me burning into my back. The whispers started immediately.
