Chapter 716

After dinner, Shane and Haley took a walk in the garden before heading back to the bedroom. Shane grabbed a change of clothes and went to the bathroom for a shower, while Haley sat on the sofa, opening her laptop to check for any emails. Just as she got started, her phone suddenly rang.

Seeing the caller ID, she frowned slightly.

James?

Why would he be calling?

Did something happen to Evelyn?

After a moment's hesitation, Haley decided to answer the call. Her tone was as cold as ever. "What do you want?"

James bit his lip, not speaking right away. After a long pause, Haley’s frown deepened. "If there's nothing urgent, I'm hanging up." Her time was valuable.

"Wait—" James quickly spoke, his voice filled with urgency and unease.

Haley paused, her expression growing colder. "Just say what you need to say."

James tightened his grip on the phone and said quietly, "Thank you for what you did for my mom."

"There's no need to thank me. I already told you, I didn't do it for you."
