What did I miss?

Our attention is quickly snatched away without any warning, our discreet conversation disrupted and instantly forgotten about when the kitchen doors swing wide open. A loud creak accompanies the motion which breaks the hushed, still air and startles us in response. My body jolts as we watch Dakota emerge from the other room; my heart thudding quickly in my chest as we find ourselves momentarily caught off guard, unsure to whether prying ears may have overheard Raven’s secret plans. As we scramble to regain a collected composure Dakota stops in her tracks, placing her hand on her hip and carefully surveying us both with a hint of curiosity riddled within her bright green eyes.

“What did I miss?” Dakota asks suspiciously as she approaches us slowly with a raised eyebrow. She walks cautiously, trying to figure out what is going on before diverting her sole focus onto Raven.
