Chapter Twenty-Eight: Colin

“Thanks for the run.”

The bright sun shines down on her, and I’m lost staring at her glistening skin. Goddess, she’s beautiful.

“Our wolves really like each other.” I laugh. “Dom has more stamina than I do.”

“I know. I’m exhausted.”

Her voice sounds strained. I frown at the thought of her being in pain of any sort.

“I could give you a piggyback ride?”

Paige doesn’t hesitate to jump on, and I lead us back to the packhouse. The large field that was littered with wolves only hours ago is filled with pups playing. You’d never know that 20 wolves took their last breaths here. Paige lays her head on my shoulder as we walk into the packhouse. I slow my pace, not eager to put her down. I contemplate not going into our room at all. I could just let her sleep on me, but she wouldn’t get any good sleep like that. I lay her onto the fresh sheets and tuck her in. I brush her hair from her face.
