Chapter 5

KIAN AND VIVIAN

                        KIAN

I watched Vivian keenly as she spoke, her beauty captivating me more than the previous night or morning. Her dress clung to her curves perfectly, accentuating her figure.

Ohh Kian, you seriously aren't thinking about this

"But I have my terms"

She said, her hands twitching nervously.

"What are those?" I asked, my eyebrows furrowed in curiosity.

"On the condition that we depict the perfect couple's life only in public" She began, her words spilling out rapidly.

"But while indoors, you stay clear of me. No attachment, none of those loyalty shits. I can do whatever I want or be with whoever I want to be with."

I scoffed, surprised by her audacity. Did she really think I wanted to be with her?

"Deal, it is then"

I concluded, and she quickly stood up from her seat.

"Uhm...Vivian"

I called, reaching for her hand, but she yanked it away.

Funny

"I might not have included this, but you don't get to touch me either." She cooed, her gaze unwavering

I would have been taken aback by her fierce gaze if I hadn't noticed her twitching hands earlier.

"You'll be starting your role as my fiancée tomorrow. Prepare to meet my grandfather"

I announced, and her eyes widened before she quickly masked her expression.

"That fast?" she muttered under her breath. "Okay"

She stated, and left immediately without waiting for a response.

I had my assistant run a check on her earlierr. Her father, Adam Everhart, was a powerhouse in the oil industry, with connections and influence that rivaled my own family's.

He was a man known for his ruthless business tactics and his ability to get what he wanted, no matter the cost. It made sense, then, that Vivian would be a suitable wife for a Blackwood - she came from a good family, with wealth and status to match our own.

I rubbed my temple, trying to calm myself down and just then,my phone buzzed, and I almost yanked it off due to frustration. But as I glared at the screen, my excitement built up, and my frustration melted away.

Coming to New York soon, home is calling:)

My eyes twitched in disbelief as I read the text over and over, making sure it was real.

“You've got to be kidding me,” i murmured

My brows furrowed as I quickly typed out a response, my thumbs flying across the keyboard. This is not a good time for her to come back. I pinched the space between my eyebrows and shut my eyes tight. Vivian must have noticed the change in my mood as she spoke,

“Is everything all right?” Her voice etched with concern.

My eyes flung open.

“Get dressed, we're going to my grandfather's in an hour,” I said, ignoring a her question. She gave me a questioning look, I stood up and walked out before she could say anything. I just have to stall her visit for a while.

               VIVIAN

Of all the things I could imagine would happen to me this week, sitting at the Blackwood’s dining table as a daughter in law was not one of them. But so is my father disowning me and my boyfriend cheating on me with my best friend, so I guess worse things could happen.

I had turned down Kian's words last week when he said we would go visit his grandfather the same day we sealed the deal. I could tell he was pissed but I couldn't care less. I should have a say in this arrangement regardless of the fact that I get more advantage in it than he does.

“How did you meet each other?” Grandfather Edward’s voice interrupted my train of thoughts.

I threw a quick glance at Kian. He had briefed me on what to expect from his grandfather few days back, but no amount of preparation could prepare me for the question.

“We met when I went to London for business, she was smart and I was easily drawn to her,” Kian said with a dull tone. He might as well be reading a newspaper with the way he sounds.

“It was love at first sight,” I smiled and placed my hand on his on the table. He stiffened at my touch but soon relaxed.

Edward's gaze traveled to our interwined hands, his expression unreadable, he averted his gaze and focused on the food in front of him.

I felt a knot tightened in my stomach and I feel like throwing up the food I ate.

“How long have you been together?” Edward spoke again, this time his voice more firm than earlier.

My lips curved with a smile. I've gone over the answer a hundred times with Kian.

“We've been together for a six months now. I've seen all the sides of Kian and I'm convinced he is the sweetest guy ever even if he doesn't always show it to the world,”

Kian shot me a quick glance.

“I'm so happy that he is in my life and I'm in his. I love him so much that I can't imagine a second without him by my side,” I said, staring at Kian with admiration in my eyes.

Bonus to self: I am a great actress.

Kian stared back at me with amusement in his eyes and an undecipherable emotion.

“I arrived just in time for the love confession, sorry I'm late,” a voice spoke behind me, Kian's face hardened.

I threw my head to the entrance to see a fine looking man walking towards us. He was tall with green eyes and a tiny scar just above his right eyebrow. The aura around him screams danger but his face was irresistible.

“I'm Aiden, nice to meet you,” he said, stretching his arm for a shake.
