The rest of the week dragged on with me at home treating myself. As fate would have it, the weekend came and here I was, at the entrance of the Church, where Dave was going to get married, now decorated with flowers. From the entrance where I stood, I could see familiar faces whom he had once introduced me to as his fiancée.
'Why did you accept to come here in the first place?' my subconscious accused me.'I didn't, I was forced.''No, you weren't. You had the whole week to give him a call, with an excuse why you can't.' my subconscious attacked back and I shook my head vigorously."Are you alright?" I heard a clear, calm voice behind me.Turning around, my twilight meet with a pair of ink iris pairing back at me in amusement and I raised my eyebrow in inquiry."You seemed confused?" he chuckled."Ohhh." I simply said and looked at him again. 'He looks familiar or.....'"Do I kn......""Hey, Charlotte!" a familiar voice squealed behind me, before engulfing me in a tight hug, thereby cutting me off."Sydney!" I turned to face a petite figure with smile plastered on her baby face. She had her brunette hair with highlights of auburn let down making her look younger than she was."I've missed you!" she mumbled as I hugged her."Awn, my baby has grown." I smiled at her bubbly attitude.Sydney was my only friend when I had gone back to college to become a chef. But being so lucky and a rich heir she became a CEO, a week after graduation, at her parent's restaurant, which has remained the top and most expensive in the country. When she was leaving, she tried convincing me into working with her many times, but the 'proud Charlotte', just like Diane said when I notified her that I rejected the offer, would still reject it.After a while she finally released me and I remembered that I was with someone before she came but on looking back he was gone. Using my eyes, I scanned the church but couldn't catch a glimpse of him."Who got lost?" Sydney teased, whispering into my ears."No one," I said taking a last look before facing her."You're sure?" she giggled and I glared at her."What brings you here?" I asked her when she had stopped laughing. "I'm sure you've never seen Dave cause I can't recall me showing you any of his pictures so........'"Yeah, I could have dated him and not know who he was," she mumbled. "I came here because Jason forced me to.""You mean your older brother, the perfect model, Jason, the famous Jason Weaver is here at this party," I said as we took a seat at the corner."Yeah, yeah, yeah." she rolled her eyes in frustration and I chuckled. "I don't know what all of you see in him. I mean, he's still the annoying big bro, Jason.""Don't forget to add handsome." I wriggled my eyebrows at her in a teasing manner."Wha..... you must be kiddin'..... if everyone would say to me that my big bro is handsome, I didn't expect you to say it. Yeah, he might be cute but handsome. OMG, I feel like puking." She said and I couldn't help but laugh harder."So where's is he?" I looked around."He said he came because he had a business here, he needed company and I was the only one available. I mean girl I don't even know how the couples look." she waved her hands in annoyance. "But one good thing came out of it." she grinned at me in excitement.Giggling at her expression, I asked. "What?""You."“Me?” I asked, widening my eyes in confusion."Imagine if you weren't here, my life would have been hell. Thanks, Charlotte." she side-hugged me.Hugging her back, I grinned. My life too would have been worse than hell alone.Minutes later, more guests were trooping in and the wedding started shortly after with the choirs singing melodious songs. The groom entered looking handsome as ever in a black suit with little touches of blue, hair styled to the back. He looked smoking hot in one word as he marched to the altar with his best man, who was also dressed in a black suit but on looking closely at who it was, my jaw dropped.‘What is he doing here?’ ‘How did he know Dave?’ These were the thoughts running through my mind.“Are you alright?” Sydney nudged me waking me from my reverie.“Yeah.” I simply said still confused as hell about how he is freaking here.Trying to gather my thoughts, I made a mental note to avoid him in any way that I can.I tried with all my willpower to focus on Zoe who was now entering the church with her best lady, holding her powdered blue behind her."The bride looks stunning in that blue gown." Sydney beamed behind me. "Now I'm jealous." she pouted."Only if you can stay committed to a single guy," I muttered. Her answer was one I never expected. "From now on, I'll try my best to stay focused on Liam," she said with so much determination."What?""Oh my bad, I didn't tell you that I've broken up with Henry. He cheated but now I've moved on. Liam brought the joy back to my life so I kept him for myself." she grinned and I could see the light it brought to her face when she mentioned his name."Well...I'll have to meet Diane's Liam," I chuckled as I looked forward only to see him staring at me.I unconsciously bit my lower lip and I felt the heat creep up my cheeks. If not for Sydney who held me tight and threatened to embarrass me if we didn't attend the reception that was holding at Lilies down the street. And so the torture of watching the couple act all lovey-dovey began but my eyes were on someone else the whole time. Finally, the most dreaded part came. It the time to greet the newlyweds while the freaking best man stood beside him. When I tried going home, Sydney reminded me that it was proper to greet the couple before leaving. She went further by holding my purse knowing fully well I could go nowhere without it.At last, they were alone without anyone besides them so taking my chance I went over to them."Charlotte!" Zoe called excitedly when she saw me before pulling me into a hug. "I thought you'd never come." she said releasing me."Yeah, I thought so too but after the persuasion, I was left with no other choice." I half-joked."We are so happy you came." Dave smiled.I pulled a reassuring smile before handing them the gift I had prepared. "Congratulations to you both." I smiled at Zoe before turning to face Dave. "Make sure to take good care of her....unless you won't like what I'm gonna do to you.""Woah, I'm ain't doing anything to her." he raised his hand in surrender. "At least not yet." he added, smirking."Dave!" His bride smacked his arm which made us laugh while she turned red in embarrassment."This is Sydney, my friend." I introduced the short devil, who couldn't stop grinning like an idiot to them."Hey and Congratulations." she said as she waved at them both. "And I so much love your gown and oh my Goodness you have such good shape." she kept rambling like the idiot she was as I said before while Zoe kept laughing."Anyways, I want to introduce someone to you too, Char." he said to me. "If you must excuse me for a minute, m'lady." he kissed Zoe's cheek before he grabbed my hand."Who do you want to introduce me to?" I asked him as we made our way through the people who sent their best wishes to him.Smiling my way, he spoke. "My brother.""Seriously? You have a brother?"He chuckled before he waved his hand to someone. "You seem surprised.""Yeah, who wouldn't?""Why?""I don't know." I shrugged.Following behind him, I bowed my head lost in the thought as to why he wanted to introduce me to someone, his brother of all. Wanting to ask him, I raised my head but I met with the pair of eyes, I'd badly wanted to avoid."Bruhhh!" Dave's voice jerked me back. "Sorry for the rude reception." he said to me before glaring at his 'brother'."Yeah.." I said until something sank. "What? He's your brother?" I asked looking from Dave back at him."Yeah, my one and only." Dave chuckled hitting the idiot on his arm. "Charlotte, Keith. Keith, Charlotte." he introduced."Nice to meet you." he stretched his hand towards me for a handshake with a smirk plastered on his handsome face.It took all of my willpower not to slap the smirk from his face. Also pulling a tight smile, I stretched my hand. "Same here." CHARLOTTE POV."I'll be back." Dave excused himself when someone called him.'No, don't go.' I screamed inwardly at him but it was his wedding, he had to greet every damn body. Looking at his retreating figure, I sighed."I never knew you had different names"Hearing his smug voice, I looked back at him. "I never knew you had a brother," I answered in the same tone."What are you doing here?" he asked, raking his fingers through his blond hair, distracting me for a minute. Pausing for a moment he gawked at me. "Don't tell me you......"Crossing my hands on my bottom. "I what? And why should I answer your question?" I asked him stubbornly and he grunted."Don't test my patience.""Am I?" I raised my eyebrow inquisitively in a challenge. "If there's nothing you want to say, except ask me irrelevant questions, I'll take my leave. Bye, Keith." I said, leaving him but I didn't walk too far when I felt a tight grip on my arm. Snapping my head by I saw an aggravated Keith. "Hey, what are you doing?" I tried snatching my hand back but he was too strong. "Keith, let go of me." I hissed in pain and I felt his grip lessen."Come with me," he said catatonically and I finally snatch my arm from him.Tilting my head to the side, I looked at him giving him a 'are you nuts?' look "No." I simply said before marching out of the hall without bidding anyone or at least glancing back.Instead of hailing a cab, I decided to walk as I reminisced on what in hell just happened.I didn't even notice that it has gotten dark as my mind kept replaying my encounter with Keith. I had been shocked cause I hadn't expected that kinda welcome. I have always dreamt that when we meet, we'd iron our issues out instead of acting like immature kids. The more I kept thinking, the angrier I became."Argh!!!!!" Pulling my hair at both ends, I screamed in frustration before bending down. Hugging my knees to myself, tears began streaming down my cheeks. KEITH POV."Where's Charlotte?" Dave asked when I walked up to him.I shrugged before replying to him. "She left.""What? When?" he turned to me wide-eyed."Maybe three or two hours ago? What's wrong?""Nothing. Just surprised." he said before turning his gaze back to the crowd. Not long after, the lady she had been with before we bickered, came over to Dave, looking bashful."Hey Dave." she pulled a forceful smile at me before turning back to Dave back with a horrified look."What's wrong?""Where's Char?" she asked with a quivering voice which made it evident that she had been crying."She left." I repeated."She left?" she asked wide-eyed. "How?... Since when has she left?""Three to two hours ago.""Oh My God!" she muttered shockingly, missing a foot but Dave pulled her back up just in time."Shit. Sydney, what's wrong?" he asked panicking Sydney."I.....I....think.... she's in trouble.""No, she isn't." I said as a matter of fact."How do you know that?" Dave said and I saw the panic in his eyes."I don't know." I said and he hissed before turning back to Sydney."Why do you think that she is in trouble?" he asked holding her shoulders firmly to keep her steady."Her purse which involves her money, and debit card is with me so how did she go home?..... or.....was she kidnapped?""How can you think like that?" Dave asked while she just looked on"Have you tried calling her?" I asked before I could stop myself."Her phone isn't going through.""You're sure." Dave asked and she nodded her head in affirmation. "Let me give it a try." he said, already dialing a number. But it only rang twice before her voicemail came in. "Let me try again." And this time, her phone was switched off. At the same time, we could hear thunder rumbling not far away."Dave." she pleaded to him with shaking lips. Before Dave could open his mouth to speak, a auburn-haired guy came over to where we stood, and grabbing Sydney by her wrists he swiftly turned her to him."Sydney, where the hell have you b......" he trailed off when he saw her devastated face. "Hey, what's wrong?" he asked her affectionately as he released his hands from her wrists to place them on her shoulders."Charlotte..." she uttered before breaking down in tears.Knowing fully well that this happened because of me, cold shivers ran down my spine. Seeing her friend shatter in front of me was weakening. The guy Sydney clutched to glanced at Dave and me and I felt guiltier than I already was."Hush now." he rubbed her back to soothe her."Let me check around whether someone saw her." Dave stated as he moved towards the entrance."What's wrong?" the auburn-haired guy finally asked her."Char..... Charlotte....is missing." she numbly said in-between sobs."Wha..... How?""I don't know." she looked at him before pointing to me. "But he told me she left two to three hours ago."Raising his brows he looked at me inquisitively and I felt uncomfortable under that gaze. "I'll check around with Dave." I said, my voice coming out coarse, betraying me for a bit.I found Dave at the entrance of the hall speaking with someone.Reaching his side I asked. "Any clues?"Sighing, he shook his head negatively and I bowed my head."What did you do to her?" Dave asked out of the blue.Raising my head, I look at him and I saw he was furious with me."Why are you asking me?""Why wouldn't I ask you? Hm.When you were there trying to get......." He paused breathing in furiously. "All I know is you did something to her and I don't care what you did to her. Just make sure you find her!" he stormed back into the hall before I could utter a single word.Raking my hands through my hair furiously, I ran over to my car only to be beaten by the sudden rain. CHARLOTTE POV.'Scared.'That's how I felt at that moment. I was now drenched and shivering in the heavy rain in the middle of nowhere. I despaired.Remembering why I had turned to be like this, to be caught in this situation, brought hot tears to my eyes again.I saw the headlights of a car, through my closing eyelids and I tried to flag down the car but it just ran passed me, splashing dirt and water over me.With the little strength I had, I began walking knowing fully well that I was still far from home. The further I walked the harder the rain fell."Charlotte!" I heard someone shout but before I could decipher who it was, I slumped. Before I could hit the ground warm hands were wrapped around me and I blacked out.'Pain.'Pain was the only feeling I felt at that moment. My head was banging in agony, and I couldn't even find it in me to move my body. It felt like I was tied down and couldn't move of my free will. After what seemed like an eternity passed before I could open my eyes. Only to be met by the ray of the sun that seeped through the crystalline window.“Shit.” I groaned as I shifted uncomfortably on my bed just to find it a lot comfortable than mine, and it was softer than my rock bed.Snapping my eyes open, I realized I wasn't in my room, and I wasn't in my bed. The pain was overshadowed by the fear that had begun building into its climax in me.'How......'Startled, I jerked off the bed only to be hit by an agonizing headache.“Argh…”'Where the fuck is this freaking place?' 'Why the fuck am I here?' 'What on earth happened to me?'I began walking around the room to find any clue or any escape route. My eyes widened in shock when I stood in front of the mirror.“Fuck.” I muttered.I w
Today was very hectic at work as the CEO was coming by and Victor, the new manager, was doing his best to impress him by showing how well the restaurant ran under his care. The kitchen was extra busy as he insisted that we make different courses of the meal.“Ms. Miles, Victor requests to see you in his office ASAP.” Riele, one of the waitresses, rushed into the kitchen. “And he seems to be angry.” Confused, I asked her. “Victor? The manager?”“Yeah.” She said before leaving.Panicking, I looked into Alex's eyes while I took off my apron, but he was as confused as I was wondering.“Don't worry. When hasn't he been angry?” Alex tried comforting me.“But this time he requests to see me?” I whisper-yelled before going out of the busy kitchen. While I walked to his office, I tried calming myself down, but it wasn't working as the rumors of how strict he was with the employees and how he acted like a total jerk. The thought alone made me shudder in fear.I tried to look composed and calm b
Life at work has been harder and depressing ever since he stepped his feet into the restaurant. If I had known that it was his restaurant, I wouldn't have signed up for a job there. Now I wake up every day with a headache, worried that he'd find fault in whatever I do, giving him a tangible reason to terminate my employment.Though while at work, he acted like I didn't exist, and it was enough for me not to care. But when it got to the point when he came to the kitchen to check what we had been preparing, I was affected. I'll give him the credit for being efficient as the owner and didn't act like a jerk when it came to his work. He was attentive to every detail and others. His move was perfect, in that the workers had a fan club dedicated to him.“Char, take a break,” Alex shouted over the sizzling meat as he came back from his break.I was glad when I entered the locker room to meet it empty. Holding my peanut butter with sandwiches, I sauntered to a bench. I was about to eat when so
It was like he felt my eyes on him when I saw his cute brown head begin turning to me. His blue eyes widened in shock when they landed on mine and a single word came out of his mouth.“Fuck.”When the silence between us was becoming unbearable, I opened my mouth to speak and closed them immediately back like a fish.“Hey.” He said, his tone laced with uncertainty.“Ryan?” I asked, still doubting if it was him.“Diane.” He replied in the same tone.“Wha... What are you doing here?”“I came h.....”“Wait a moment.” I pointed my forefinger at him, hushing him. “You are the annoying neighbor?”“Annoy….”“I can't believe someone like you can be a lover of loud music. I thought you were a softie?”“A softie?”“And you were that creepy guy in black?” I asked hands akimbo.“Shit.” He cursed, running his fingers through his hair in frustration.“Why did you do it? Did he force you into it?” I asked softly.“He?.. No, no one forced me into this or anything. I..... I only wanted to stay hidden fo
Sighing, I knocked on the door, and not long after a petite brunette stuck her head out.“Charlotte?” She squeaked.Nodding my head, I smiled at her. “Sydney.”Her mouth dropped open as she kept staring at me. “Can I come in?” I asked after a stretch of uncomfortable silence.“Ye...yes.” She stuttered, opening the door wider for me to enter.Walking in, I could help but envy the manner which in her house was well organized and neat.“What would you like?” She asked rubbing her hands on the briefs she wore.“I'm okay but I need to talk to you," I said and I saw her pull a tight smile on her lips. “Sydney, I'm sorry.” I continued as I began moving back to her.“Sorry for what? You did me no wrong,” she stated, laughing it off.But I saw through her act. “Please don't be like this?" I pleaded with her, placing my hand on hers.“Like how?"It had taken me a lot of courage to come over and I wasn't going to let it go downtown.“Sydney, I'm sorry for treating you like that.” I paused to loo
“No, Sydney we are not doing that again," I shouted as I ran in the store, not minding the states people were giving me.“But it would look yummy on you." She persisted as she ran after me.“No!"I was already getting tired but I wasn't going to give up. My vision was also getting blurry due to dizziness and I was grateful that people paved the way for me.Catching a glimpse of an opened door, I went straight for it and turned the lock not giving her a chance to get in when she caught up with me.Coughing, I wheezed due to loss of breath and on turning to see where I had ended up.“Oh my...." I gasped. In front of me stood someone I can call a demigod. He looked immaculate. From his upturned ink eyes to his pointed nose down to his thin lips. He was an eye candy”Excuse me?"'Oh my...' I could feel my legs turn jelly hearing his honey sweet voice.”Excuse me?" He called again and I snapped out of whatever trance I had gone into.“Oh hey." I smiled as I awkwardly waved at him.”If I may
KEITH POV.These past few months have been hell for me. The pain unbelievably grew to a point I felt like I was going to fall dead at any time.Seeing her smile, my heart twisted in longing. She looked more beautiful than she had been and with every passing day, it did me no good. It was pure torture. The more I saw her around the more I wanted to know about her.I had never imagined that I'd be going over to Dave's but here I was at their entrance arching to know more about her because she was driving me crazy beyond imagination. Finally gathering the courage I rang the doorbell.”Keith.” Zoe squealed in excitement when she opened the door.”Hey." I waved a little smile on my face.”Who's that Wifey?” I heard Dave's voice behind her and she opened the door widely, revealing me to him.”Long time no see....bro.” I grinned at him as I pocketed my hands shifting from one foot to another.“You!” he shouted as he pounced at me, tackling me to the ground.A
“It was so frustrating.” I lamented as I relayed the events of the past months to Diane.“I made you go through this, I'm sorry.”“It isn't your fault, you had no option but to stay back.”“So what happened when you met him at Dave's?”“What do you expect? He acted like I didn't exist.” I shrugged making an effort to brush off the stinging impact it had been on me. “Enough of me. What about you? How are you managing?” I switched the course of the discussion.“I just got a job as a personal assistant,” Diane declared “Congratulations babe.”“You know. Xavier came over today.”“Tell me more.”Diane was about to speak when the doorbell rang.Darting towards the door, I cut through her words. “Give me a minute, please. I think the delivery is at the door.” Standing from the sofa I trudged towards the door and the bell rang again. When I eventually unlocked the door, regret washed through me as I blamed myself for not checking through the peephole.Wearing a stern face, I asked coldly. “
CHARLOTTE'S POV.“Nah, I don't think I'll go.” I refused popping an almond seed into my mouth.“You guys click, you have to give it a try before refusing.” Diane tried convincing me but I was stubborn.“You don't even know his name and you are convinced that anyone who goes out with your friend clicks.” “I might not know his name but Xavier does and if he trusts him, I also do.”“Don't be so cheesy. Moreover he's going to be my boss, how do you expect me to date and work for him? I don't wanna go through that route again.”“Think of it like this, you both first met at a store and then you went to the cafe waiting for your interviewer only to find out he's the one again. Girl, I'll call this fate and nothing else.”“Fate that I should work with him, that's all.” I concluded.“You know there might be a chemistry between you two, not as an employer and an employee but as lovers.”“Lovers of work.” I smiled.“Oh stop it, I'm being serious here.”“Me too!” I shoute
FIONA'S POV.“How about this lip tint?” Amanda asked, walking up to me as she applied it on her lips.I shook my head. “Hmmm, I'm not sure about that. It doesn't look like your style. It looks weird.” I hit her butt jokingly as I checked through the shelf.“I want to try more something bolder. Most of the ones I have are cool colour and moreover guys are attracted to bold girls.” she giggled.“You are such a slut.”“Speaking of guys, what about the guy you said you went to his company? Hm.. Keith right?” she asked and my hands paused mid air. “Did his mom get back to you?” she continued. “I guess not.”“You know, I heard that when his mom tells him to do something, he obeys without question.”“Ohh, she's aristocratic. Interesting. But you know she has to be careful cause he's slipping out of her hands without her knowledge.”I was about saying ‘It can't be possible' when my phone rang.“Speaking of the devil.” I smiled seeing the caller's ID.“Fiona, where are yo
FLASHBACK“Miss. Diane, I won't be home that often so you should feel comfortable.” Keith told Charlotte after the third day she had arrived at his home. “Just feel at home, I'm sure that there are places you'd love to visit so just be free and do what you want. As long as it doesn't breach the contract.” he added.“Okay.” Charlotte managed, too surprised at him.“If that's understood, I would be going now.” he smiled before leaving the house all to her.Stunned, she couldn't tear her gaze away from the entrance. In all of the work she had done, this was the first time someone told her to feel at home and not bother about him.Spinning around swiftly, she squealed before running into her room.Throwing a faded jean and a blue tank top on, she went back to the living room. She was already stepping out when Jack showed up infront of me, startling me.“Sorry, for scaring you.” “No need to apologize, Jack. Moreover, I was too excited.” she beamed happily at him.“Mr
My grumbling stomach woke me up from sleep and I rose from the bed grudgingly. As I sat up from the bed, I checked my phone. It was 1:12 am. It was becoming a habit to wake up hungry at midnight ever since I had the accident. Carefully through the hallway in order not to stumble into anything, I sluggishly found my way to the equally dark kitchen and I rummaged the wall for the switch. Turning it on, I shrieked at the view in front of me, sending any traces of sleep from my eye.In my line of view were Xavier and Diane smooching on my kitchen counter. On my kitchen counter!!They immediately stopped what they were doing when the light came on but I had already seen the inevitable.“What the...” I cursed and a flushed Diane quickly pushed Xavier forward as she jumped down from the counter. “Wait.” I stopped her from moving over to me. “Don't come over, just.. just continue with what you were doing. I...I only came to get a refill.” I said thankful that I held my water flask.A smile wa
AUTHOR'S POV.“Diane, what the....” Charlotte lunged at her friend who immediately ran behind Xavier for cover.“I'm sorry I had to do it.” Diane defended and her eyes widened in disbelief.“You.. you ha...you had to do it?" She scoffed at her as she clenched her fists.“I'm sorry,” Diane repeated.“You are sorry? Where do you expect me to start looking for a job? You out of all people should know how hard it was for me to secure this and you went ahead to drop a resignation letter on my behalf behind my back?”“I just felt that you needed the space.” Diane innocently mumbled audible enough for her to hear.“Space?” Charlotte hissed before veering around to Xavier who held back in all of this.“Did you hear her? She said she thought that I needed the space? The fucking space?” she laughed angrily as she paced back and forth. “You see that's what you don't fucking get, there was never a damn closeness, to begin with. Any closeness is damn buried in the past so there's no
I wish I was dead and that my eyes never opened to life but I was so wrong. The strong scent of antiseptic filled my nostrils and I weakly opened my eyes to a strange room, painted in white. I tried to turn my head when a great pain struck me.Lying still, I closed my eyes as I thought it could relieve the pang.“Is she dead?” I heard a whimpering voice beside and I snapped my eyes open in an instant. I saw a fragile figure standing by my side though it was blurry I could still decipher who it was with the way she spoke.“Diane?” I crooked as my throat felt too dry.“Let me get the doctor.” someone else spoke but I was too surprised to see her here so I didn't see the person.“Charlotte?” she jumped on me as she cried harder and I whimpered in pain. Shooting up instantly, she looked at me emphatically. “I'm sorry.”“What are you doing here?” I managed again but before she could make a reply a doctor came in.Throughout the examination that the doctor did, my sole concentration was on
