Erin’s POV
The hot water felt nice on my porcelain white skin; I breathed in the steam as it filled the bathroom. The water soaked through my hair, rinsing away my worries and fears of being found out.
As I stepped out of the shower, I grabbed my robe that I kept hanging closely to the curtains, wrapping it loosely around my body. The robe was loose enough to reveal my deep cleavage with a strawberry mark on one of my breasts.
The memories of last night surfaced in my mind; the way Gavin had touched me and kissed me. The way he nibbled on my nipples and used his soft tongue to lick down my body. My face warmed at the memory.
The mirror was still foggy from the steam, but I managed to get a glimpse of the dark circles under my eyes. I couldn’t help but bite my lip, tasting the ghost of his lips still there.
I wasn’t planning on going to see him last night, but the more I thought about our moment in the bathroom, the more I couldn’t resist him.
Finally, I gave myself a valid reason –
I needed to verify that he was what he really was.
If he could mind control and teleport, then he was definitely a werewolf with special abilities.
I needed to confirm this. After hours of obsessing, I went to his room to find him. We made love. When he fell asleep, I checked his room. Unfortunately, I didn’t find any hints that could prove his identity.
Moonshadow? Or a bloodthirsty man?
No answer.
It was time to stop. Don’t be curious about Gavin. Erin, your reunion with him ends. You won’t see him again. Absolutely not.
I told myself.
Water droplets still decorated my skin as I grabbed a towel to dry my hair. I heard the creaking footsteps outside the bathroom door, and I already knew who it was before opening the door.
My "husband", Henry.
We're only married in name. But we had a deep bond with each other. We‘re almost each other's best friends. We used to be partners in Moonshadow. He was a kind gentleman, with a nice look to him. Many women find him handsome. He gave me a pleasant smile, but it didn’t seem to reach his pale green eyes.
Henry fixed his glasses that had fallen down his nose. I smelled the delicious food that was occupying the plate he was holding.
“I made you breakfast,” he said, meeting my eyes. “You should come and sit with me in the kitchen.”
I fixed my robe that was falling down my shoulder; I didn’t want him to see the mark on my breast. It would only raise questions and what happened between Gavin and me last night had to be kept a secret.
It would only break Henry’s heart if he knew how unfaithful and weak I was.
We sat together as we often do in the morning. It was comfortable. We appeared to be a loving and happy couple. It was what I wanted; I wanted comfort and ease. I craved the boring life we have built.
“How’s the food?” He asked as he does every morning.
“Delicious as always,” I tell him.
“How was work last night?” He asked, that curiosity returning to his eyes.
“It was fine,” I said, trying to keep the anguish out of my voice. “Uneventful.”
That was a lie and somehow, I could tell he knew it.
“You came home late last night…” he said, eyeing me carefully. “Or maybe it was early this morning. I couldn’t tell…”
I snuck back in around 4 am this morning. Henry was fast asleep when I returned, or at least I thought he was.
“I went with some of the girls to the bar,” I lied. “I lost track of time.”
“I see,” he said; I couldn’t tell if he believed me or not. But he didn’t ask any more questions.
He finished eating his food, silently, and then cleaned his own plate before turning to me.
“I should get going,” he said; he had an early meeting at the law firm he worked at. Henry was a very successful lawyer, and I was incredibly proud of him for working as hard as he did to get to where he was.
Before he could grab his coat, I realized his tie was crooked. He was terrible at tying his own tie and the thought that he tried it on his own made me smile. It seemed he was always going to need me for something.
“Let me fix your tie first,” I say with a light laugh as I come around the table.
His face reddens slightly, and he gives me a small, sheepish, smile in return. As I adjusted his tie, he glanced down at the corner of the kitchen where I threw my work shoes.
“When are you going to get rid of those old things?” He asked, a small crease forming between his brows.
“They are just work shoes,” I remind him. “They get the job done.”
“They have holes in them… I can buy you—”
“I don’t need your money,” I say, interrupting him. The look of pain in his eyes made me regret those words though and I sighed. “I’ve lived off my father’s money for most of my life. I don’t want to depend on someone else to get me through. I have a job and I have my own bills…I don’t need your money, Henry.”
“I know you want your independence,” Henry sighed. “Which is why you still won’t let me mark you…”
I knew this was a sensitive subject for him and I didn’t want to get into it.
“We’ve talked about this—”
“We’ve been together for 3 years, Erin,” Henry said with a little hurt in his tone. “You were the one who wanted this. Nobody will believe that our love is real if you won’t let me mark you.”
I put a hand on each side of his face once I finished with his tie, forcing him to look at me. I tried to give him the most genuine and loving gaze that I could. His eyes seemed to have softened as he looked into mine.
“You know I love you,” I said to him softly. “I just want to maintain my independence. I want to still feel like me. I’m worried that if I let you mark me… then I’ll be all about you. I can’t lose sight of who I am. But that doesn’t mean anything has to change…”
He didn’t look certain, but he eventually nodded. He kissed me gently on the lips.
“Walk me to my car?” He asked, a small smile on his lips.
I let him wrap an arm around my shoulders as we walked outside; the fresh air felt nice on my skin. Up until that point, I forgot that I was only wearing a bathrobe.
I wasn’t lying when I said I loved Henry… but it was more of friendly love. Like loving a best friend.
Or a brother.
He kissed me as we got to his car, and I watched as he got inside. Before he drove off, he glanced at me briefly, rolling down his window.
“By the way… where is your wedding ring?”
I frowned, looking down at my hand. My heart plummeted into my stomach.
My wedding ring was gone… only the outline of the band remained. I must have dropped it at the hotel last night.
“I take it off when I shower. I just forgot to put it back on,” I lied.
He looked at me for a moment longer before saying, “Okay,” and then driving off.
But for the first time, I saw genuine doubt on his face.
He knew something was off.
…
Gavin’s POV
Gavin sat in his office with his Beta, Seth, sitting in one of his chairs in front of his desk.
Seth listened as Gavin continued talking his praise about Moonshadow, an organization made up of werewolves and even some humans with special abilities, aiming to achieve world peace.
Though some around the world wish to do harm and cause mayhem, such as the Slayers; a separate organization made up of vampires. Then there are the Killers; those with special abilities who wish to torment those without abilities.
Those who belong to Moonshadow remained a secret, a secret that Gavin was destined to crack.
“Email the leader of Moonshadow. I want a list of their members. Theirs no reason they need to remain a secret from Alphas. We need to be wary of how strong, and powerful they are. If we aren’t careful, members could become Killers and then we will all be in danger.”
“Yes, Alpha,” Seth said as he wrote it down in his notebook.
Before Seth left, the thought of Erin invaded Gavin’s mind.
“Also, I need you to run to the store to get a nice pair of comfortable shoes for women.”
Seth rose his brows in utter confusion; Gavin knew it was a strange request, but he didn’t care.
“Of course,” he finally agreed. “What size shoes?”
Gavin thought back to when he ran his kisses down Erin’s leg and across her silky and delicate toes, making her giggle. He loved the sounds of her giggles.
“6.”
Seth wrote that down in his notebook before leaving the office.
What am I doing? She’s a married woman.
“So what?” Roman said huskily. “She’s an incredible lover. You should have sex with her every day and night, whether she’s someone else wife or not.”
Gavin’s POV What the hell am I doing? Gavin scolded himself as he watched his Beta leave his office. Erin didn’t deserve new shoes; not after what she had done to him. He went to call his Beta back to his office and tell him never mind on that last request. “Don’t you dare!” Roman scowled. “She might be married to someone else, but she will always be yours, you fool! She’s had a bad time; it’s obvious from her place of employment and her shoes alone. She simply won’t survive without your raging cock.” There was humor in his wolf’s voice. “Don’t you remember how badly she had hurt us when she left? She rejected us. I made a promise that I would never feel that way again and I’m keeping my word.” “Yes, Alpha?” Seth asked as he made his way back into Gavin’s office after hearing his name being called. Gavin stared at Seth for a short while, wanting to tell him never mind, but the words seemed impossible to say out loud. “Nothing. Just make sure the shoes are comfortable to work
Gavin's POVBefore Erin could utter a single word, Gavin had hung up the phone. He felt pleased for having the last word; as he shoved his phone into his pocket, he was stunned as arms were wrapped around his broad body. The familiar scent of vanilla filled his nose as the tight embrace continued; he didn’t need to turn around to see who it was.“Surprise!” Susanna said excitedly from behind him.Erin’s POVI involuntarily trembled as I stood in the back corner of the restaurant, hidden and out of sight of the customers. I kept my phone in the tight clutches of my hand, pressed to my ear, long after Gavin had hung up.Was he really going to mail the ring to Henry? No. He didn’t even know my address… “He’s Gavin Pierce,” my wolf, Emily, reminded me. “He can find this information quickly. I do believe you are truly in deep water this time.” She was right. What was I going to do?Last night was truly a mistake; I don’t know what I was thinking, going to his hotel suite. The memories o
Gavin’s POVSusanna wasn’t due to return for another week. Gavin had the understanding that her tour was going to be a month-long, but it’s only been 3 weeks.“I came back early to surprise you,” she explained with a fond look in her eyes. “I just missed you so much.”He forced a smile on his face, though he only felt unsettled by her presence. It’s not that he didn’t like Susanna; she was beautiful, and she would honestly make the perfect Luna for his pack. But he knew she was only after fortune and power. The little fortune and power she had from the fashion industry weren’t enough for her.“If you’ll excuse me, I was about to make an announcement. But tomorrow night, we will enjoy an evening out together.”She beamed at that and kissed his cheek gently.Gavin proceeded to announce the opening of the newest Hospital in the northern region that he personally is funding. He’s a billionaire; it would be stupid if he didn’t spend some of his money to better the kingdom. That’s what kept
Erin’s POVI sat in my car with a heavy heart after my encounter with Gavin. I stared down at my hand where I could see the indent of the ring that once occupied that finger, and I sighed in defeat.I was going to have to tell Henry that I misplaced the ring. He was going to be so upset with me.“Well, if you didn’t insist on not using his money, then you could have gotten that ring,” Emily said with a sigh.“Are you crazy? I couldn’t use his money for something like this. I don’t need his money…” I argued in return. “I get paid in a few days. Maybe I will try again.” I stared out my window; the shadow of Gavin had disappeared long ago. I shouldn’t still be thinking about him, but that woman he was with was very beautiful. I wasn’t aware he had someone as well; I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised. He is Gavin Pierce after all; he’s incredibly handsome. It would have been crazy if he didn’t have someone just as beautiful on his arm.I was a nobody in comparison.“Don’t say such ridic
Third Person POVSusanna, beautiful, talented, and noble, was called the wrong name in bed! That has never happened to her before, and she wasn’t liking it.She got out of bed and immediately got dressed.“I didn’t mean to call you by her name,” Gavin tried to explain. “The embarrassment of thinking I saw her earlier was fresh in my mind. It was an honest mistake.”“Is this Erin someone of significance to you?” She asked, folding her arms across her chest.“No. She was just someone I used to know.”“Do I need to be worried?”“Of course not,” he breathed. “I think I’m just tired. Perhaps we can try this again another night?”“That’s fine with me,” she said, feeling a wave of annoyance. She turned away from him without another word and left his room.Whomever this Erin person was, she was getting in the way of her relationship and Susanna was not going to stand for it.As soon as she returned to her car outside of Gavin’s home, she dialed her assistant, Caterina’s, phone number.“I want
Third Person POV“What the hell just happened?!” One of the waitresses yelled, trying to stand to her feet but the floor was too slippery from the water. The waitresses were confused as to where this water had come from all of a sudden. Erin was mopping the floor on the other side of the restaurant. How could she have gotten this water to them so quickly? They looked around frantically, trying to see if there was a leak or something.“Did that bitch splash water at us?!” One of them hissed once she finally managed to get to her feet. They glanced in the direction of Erin but then realized that she was gone.…Gavin’s POVGavin spent the better part of his day in his office. He made a complete fool of himself with Susanna that previous night. He royally fucked up.“Because you want Erin’s sweet—” “Shut up,” Gavin stopped his wolf before he continued his sentence. Though, he knew what his wolf was saying was true.“Beta Seth, did you find anything out about Erin’s husband?” Gavin asked
Erin’s POVGavin was eyeing me carefully; I could feel my face warming. I couldn’t believe he would show up at my place of work like this. He requested me to be his waitress; I was never going to hear the end of it from the others. He briefly glanced at the gentleman that sat across from him at the table; the gentleman was looking between the two of us warily. I recognized him from the news; he often stood beside Gavin during his speeches.Beta Seth.“Seth, leave us for a few moments,” Gavin ordered, keeping his eyes locked on mine.Seth looked uncertain for a moment; hesitant to leave. That is until Gavin turned his glares in his direction.“I’ll be outside,” Seth muttered, standing to his feet. He gave me a sheepish grin before leaving the restaurant.I turned my attention back to Gavin.“I mean it, Gavin. If you don’t leave, I’ll—”“You’ll what? Have me arrested,” he said, a mocking grin on his face. “Nobody has the right to tell me where I can and cannot eat.”“Lucky for me, I’m a
Erin’s POVOf course, I knew that Gavin had abilities. It was rumored that he had many. But I never thought I would actually see him freezing time before my eyes.“Now, where were we?” He asked with a playful look in his eyes and that smirk never leaving his lips.I wasn’t even sure what to say at that point, but I knew what I wanted. I shouldn’t have wanted it as badly as I did. But my heart was racing at lightning speed and Emily was howling excitedly. She wanted this more than I did, and I worried I was about to lose control of her.She was itching to be released and to be with our mate once again. I had to keep silently reminding her that we rejected him and that this wasn’t what we wanted. But I knew I wasn’t going to be strong enough to keep her hidden much longer. Especially while Gavin’s fingers were tracing the underlining of my panties, making me wetter by the moment. His hard cock was itching to be released from his pants as I sat on his lap.I felt his soft lips kissing th
Erin’s POVI often ask myself, if I could go back in time, what’s the one thing I would change? When I was a teenager, I would have said not kissing Gavin as nearly as much as I wanted to. I wanted him to know just how much I loved him and how badly my heart ached for him when I wasn’t there with him.Even before I had got my wolf, I knew Gavin was my mate. He has always been the kind of boy you could never forget.I loved him deeply and I would forever love him until my last breath. When I broke up with him, it was like my entire world had fallen apart. But my father gave me an ultimatum that I couldn’t ignore. If I didn’t break up with him, Gavin would never be able to attend that incredible college he’s been wanting to go to. I couldn’t be the reason that Gavin’s dream didn’t happen. I never wanted to stand in his way.I did the only thing
Gavin’s POVGavin stood at the end of the aisle, which was located in the gardens of Gavin’s pack. The gardens were one of the most beautiful landmarks in the werewolf territory and Erin requested the wedding be held there considering it was just outside the chapel.Gavin didn’t care where they got married, as long as Erin was with him.Jill walked down the aisle with Beta Seth followed by a couple more bridesmaids and groomsmen from the pack.Soon, it would be Kelsey and Tyler, the best man and maid of honor. Then, it would be Erin. His Erin. The thought filled him with so much joy; Roman could hardly wait to see his mate after days of barely seeing her.The music was playing loudly and the doors to the chapel remained closed.Kelsey and Tyler were supposed to walk through the doors by now. What was keeping them?Gavin envisioned his best man being drunk and Kelsey trying to sober
Gavin’s POV“Are you out of your mind?!” Gavin asked as soon as they were back in the packhouse and away from the ears of Theo. “Why would you tell him I’ll join the organization?”“Did you not want to?” Erin asked, raising her brows. “I saw the look in your eyes. I knew you wanted to.”“That doesn’t matter. What about our pup?”“What about our pup?” Erin counter-asked, folding her arms across her chest. “Our pup will be just fine. It’s not like we are going to be absent parents. I’ve been part of the organization this whole time and you’ve never noticed.”“But I didn’t know you were on dangerous missions. If anything happens to us—”“Nothing is going to happen to us. Theo will make sure of that,” she assured him, but he didn’t feel very reassured.“But if something does happen to us… our pup would be an orphan,” he said, meeting her eyes.“Then, let’s make sure nothing happens to us,” she said, taking him b
Gavin’s POVGavin spent the last few days working tiredly in the nursery. He’s been wanting to surprise Erin with this for a long time and he was excited to reveal it to her.Erin spent the next few evenings giving the nursery her own final touches. But one afternoon, she tiredly came into his office, peering over at him with a timid frown on her face.“Have you been sleeping?” He asked, narrowing his eyes at her paling face.“A little at a time,” she admitted. “The pup is very active and makes sleeping difficult.”“I’ll call the doctor and see if he can prescribe you anything,” he said, about to pick up the phone.“I’d rather not take medication. Maybe if he knows of a natural solution or remedies,” I said.“I’ll ask him,” he assured me.“Can it wait until later, though?” I asked. “My boss, Theo from the organization wants to speak with you.”Gavin heard stories about the leader of the org
Erin’s POV5 months later.I sat at the bakery, staring at the many pieces of cake that sat before me on incredibly fancy dining ware.“I think all the cake is delicious,” Jill, who sat beside me, said with a mouthful of cake.“Yes, but I need to find the best one,” I said in return.“I really love red velvet,” Kelsey said from the other side of Jill as she took a big spoonful of the red velvet cake.“I never get to eat like this. I’m always worried about my figure. Let me have my moment,” Jill pleased. “Besides, I spent the last few months hiding in a safe house.”After months of searching for Jessie to no prevail, we decided to move on with our lives. Which meant bringing Gavin’s family home.“In just a few days, I’m going to be walking down the aisle to marry my mate,” I breathed, a large smile spreading across my face. “Everything has to be perfect.”“Oh, don’t forget, you have lunch with my mother th
Gavin’s POVOut of all the things for Erin to blurt out at that moment, Gavin certainly was not expecting that one.Her face was as red as cherry as soon as those words left her mouth. She couldn’t believe she blurted it out like that either.“You’re pregnant?” Gavin managed to ask after what felt like an eternity of silence.Tears filled her eyes, and he could see the shame that lurked behind her gaze. She was truly struggling with this, and Gavin didn’t understand why.Unless the baby wasn’t ours.“Oh… it’s ours,” Roman said, sniffing the air. “She’s having our pups!”“You knew about this?” Gavin growled at his wolf. “And you didn’t think to tell me?”“Our mate was right, with everything going on, it never seemed like the right time. Besides, I only now just picked up the scent. Go easy on her… I don’t want anything disrupting this baby of ours.”“Are you mad?” Erin brought Gavin out of his con
Erin’s POV“Gavin is awake,” Beta Seth said into the phone.Relief flooded through me.Thank goddess; that meant he was going to be okay, and I could finally breathe. It’s been killing me not being able to go to the hospital. But with Jessie still, out there, we were all still in so much danger.Theo doesn’t think Jessie is going to strike back this soon, especially when her reputation has been tanked as soon as her identity was revealed to the public. But that didn’t make me any less worried that she would soon return.“The first person he asked about was you,” Seth continued, pulling at my heartstrings painfully.I hated that I couldn’t be with Gavin, but finding Jessie right now was way too important.“He also doesn’t think bringing his family home is a good idea,” Seth said with uncertainty in his voice. “I thought it was mentioned that there’s no trace of Jessie or anyone left in her organization.”
Erin’s POV“…!!”“Oh, my goddess,” Emily cried from within me.I felt her heart shattering just as I saw Gavin falling to the ground.Red was oozing under my wolfed paws as his blood mixed with the water. The water was done spraying, and Gavin and I were left on the roof alone. I fell to my knees and placed my hands on Gavin’s chest. The dagger stuck out of him, and blood continued to ooze.“Gavin… no…” I whispered as tears fell from my eyes. I felt so broken at this moment; I couldn’t lose him. Not like this.“Don’t let her get away,” he said in a raspy whisper. “She’s still alive…”I knew I needed to go after her; I couldn’t let her get away after it took us so long to find her. But the image of Gavin bleeding out before my eyes was too painful. I couldn’t just walk away from him.Theo and a couple of the men from the organization burst through the doors of the rooftop and he narrowed his eyes at
Erin’s POVPregnant?!My heart thudded violently against my chest.Could I really be pregnant?I pressed the palm of my hands to my stomach and felt that warmth radiating throughout my body and giving me strength.I gasped.I knew at that moment that it was true.I had a little pup in me.I kept my hands on my stomach as I turned to face Jessie.“You wouldn’t hurt me knowing that I’m carrying a small pup,” I said to her, narrowing my eyes at her stunned expression.“You’re pregnant?!” She gasped, staring at me with wide eyes. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” In high school, when envisioned getting pregnant with Gavin’s baby much later in life, I obviously thought it would be much different than this.I never imagined in a million years that my best friend would be trying to kill me.I always thought Jessie would be the first person who knew that I was pregnant, and I gue
