Erin’s POV“Can we talk about this another time,” I managed to ask, peering up at Henry who kept a serious look in his eyes. “I think we are both exhausted after today.”“I’m thinking straight, Erin. Why won’t you let me mark you? If you really loved me…”“We’ve already talked about this,” I say firmly, shaking my head. “I don’t want to be marked by anybody.”“Is it because of Gavin?”“No. It’s because of me,” I tell him. “I don’t know why we have to keep having the same conversation. I’m sick of having this conversation. Can’t you just let me be?”He looked taken aback by my small outburst; he stared around my face for a moment longer, disbelief lingering in his eyes.I sighed and placed my hand on his bicep once again.“I’m sorry, Henry,” I breathed. “But I need you to understand that I can’t be marked. Not right now. I need to just focus on myself and live a quiet life. I can’t do that if I’m wrapped up over somebody.”“You are wrapped up over Gavin,” Henry said, a frown decorating
Erin’s POV “Of course, not. Why would it make me jealous?” I asked, turning away from the television. “I’m going to get dressed for work.” Henry didn’t say anything, but I knew his eyes were on the back of my head, watching as I left the room. I couldn’t let what I saw on the television bother me. However, if anything, I felt incredibly foolish. I’d been blowing up his phone for days; I should have known he was with her. As I got dressed, I glanced at myself in the mirror and realized the marks he had left on my flesh the other day were gone; which came as a relief. Once I was dressed, I gave myself one last look before leaving for the day. I gave Henry a kiss on the cheek and told him I loved him as I did every day. Except for this time, he didn’t respond as he often did. I knew he was still upset about our argument; I wasn’t going to pry. I hated fighting with him though, and I hoped this fight wouldn’t last much longer. “That’s entirely up to you, my dear,” Emily breathed
Erin’s POV“What the fuck!” The man said again, trying to clean the hot coffee off his lap. I took a step away from him, crossing my arms over my chest.“It’s time for you to leave,” I ordered.“You bitch, get me another napkin and clean up your mess,” he growled at me.I went to say something in return, but another voice spoke before I had the chance.“I believe she just asked you to leave.”I turned around quickly and was shocked to see Gavin standing in front of me. My eyes widened and I was at a loss for words.How long had he been there? “A…Alpha Gavin?” The man stammered, staring up at Gavin who towered over him.Gavin’s eyes poured into the man, and they darkened; the man was hooked in a trance by Gavin and he was unable to look away. I realized that nobody was paying attention to what was happening in our corner, and I couldn’t help but wonder if that was because Gavin had done something to them as well.The man finally breaks his eyes from Gavin and bows to me.“I’m so sorry
Gavin’s POV“Alpha, is it really necessary to return to the restaurant? You’ve been doing so well these last few days staying away,” Beta Seth asked as they neared the restaurant.“I need to speak with her,” was all Gavin managed to say.He’s hated not being able to speak with Erin these last few days. He’s been so wrapped up in his work that he’s hardly had time to think about anything else.“What about Miss Susanna? How would she feel about any of this?”“There isn’t anything between Susanna and me,” Gavin said to his Beta. “I don’t wish to be with Susanna. It’s Erin I want, and I need her to know this.”Seth knew better than to argue with Gavin, so he remained quiet the rest of the drive. As soon as they pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant, Gavin could smell Erin’s scent and it was glorious. His wolf was nearly ripping from his flesh, trying to get to Erin as quickly as he could.However, he could feel that Erin was also in distress.Something was wrong.They quickly park
Erin’s POV “I need to go home,” I say, breaking the embrace from Gavin. “Henry will be wondering where I am…” “Will you tell him about us?” He finally asked the question that’s been lingering in his mind. I lowered my gaze to the ground. “There’s nothing to tell him…” “Why do you keep denying me?” Gavin asked, cupping my chin under the palm of his hand, and bringing my gaze to his. “Why won’t you admit that…” “Admit what? That I love you? You know why…” I say to him, pulling away. “I need to go. I’m sorry if this isn’t the response you wanted. But it’s all I can give you for right now.” His hand fell to his side, and I could see the sadness in his eyes; it broke my heart to see him like this. I wanted to run back into his arms and embrace him, but I refrained from doing so. I thought he would argue with me, but he watched as I got into my car. I sat in my car for a moment before driving away; maybe there was a part of me that hoped that he would stop me. But he didn’t. He watc
Henry’s POV Henry’s heart shattered at the sight of Erin and Gavin kissing in the middle of the parking lot at the restaurant. He knew how Erin felt for Gavin and he knew there was still something going on between them. But seeing it was different than suspecting it. Now he knew for certain that Erin hasn’t been truthful with him when she says that it was only one time and that it didn’t mean anything. Her body was wrapped in his broad and tight embrace. She looked comfortable; like they have done this a thousand times before. His heart ached. There was a part of him that wanted to clear his throat loudly and make himself known to them. They had yet to notice him, so seeing their faces when he makes himself known, might be humorous in a dark and twisted kind of way. But there was another part of him that was telling him to just leave. That was part of him he listened to. He said nothing as he turned away from them and went back into his car. He didn’t leave right away though;
Erin’s POVWhen I woke up the next morning, I didn’t like the way I felt.My heart ached terribly.I shouldn’t have left things off with Gavin the way I have.Having that dream last night really messed with my mind.I looked over at my phone that sat on my bedside table, and I saw that there were no missed calls or texts. He must have been so upset with me.I couldn’t imagine what was running through his mind.I ignored the nagging feeling in my chest and made my way out of bed, grabbing my robe that hung on the wall nearby my bed. wrapping it around my body I made my way out of the room and into the living room.Henry wasn’t home.I frowned and glanced around the seemingly untouched room.Where was he? I thought about calling him, but then I thought against it.He probably didn’t want to hear from me anyways. I decided to make something quick for breakfast; I had some time before I needed to be at work.I grabbed a frosted pop tart out of the cabinet and placed it in the toaster.It
Erin’s POVThe two glasses I was holding shattered to the ground, alerting the attention of everybody in the restaurant, including Henry and Susanna.They both turned to stare at me with wide eyes; Henry with more concern and Susanna with more humor.My heart was beating heavily in my chest as I stared between the two of them.I couldn’t have heard them correctly.Did she just say she was pregnant? With Gavin’s baby? “I… I’m sorry…” I said, turning away from them quickly and hurrying toward the bathroom.Suddenly, my stomach was turning itself outward and I wasn’t feeling so good.“Erin?” I heard Kelsey from behind me; though, her voice sounded distant.I didn’t turn around or stop moving.I was pleased that my stomach waited until it was the closed compacity of the stall before it gave out. I hunched over the toilet and released its contents.Deep breathing, I tried to steady my rapid heartbeat.I heard the clicking of shoes on the hard surface, entering the bathroom, making my ent
Erin’s POVI often ask myself, if I could go back in time, what’s the one thing I would change?When I was a teenager, I would have said not kissing Gavin as nearly as much as I wanted to. I wanted him to know just how much I loved him and how badly my heart ached for him when I wasn’t there with him.Even before I had got my wolf, I knew Gavin was my mate. He has always been the kind of boy you could never forget.I loved him deeply and I would forever love him until my last breath.When I broke up with him, it was like my entire world had fallen apart. But my father gave me an ultimatum that I couldn’t ignore.If I didn’t break up with him, Gavin would never be able to attend that incredible college he’s been wanting to go to. I couldn’t be the reason that Gavin’s dream didn’t happen. I never wanted to stand in his way.I did the only thing
Gavin’s POVGavin stood at the end of the aisle, which was located in the gardens of Gavin’s pack. The gardens were one of the most beautiful landmarks in the werewolf territory and Erin requested the wedding be held there considering it was just outside the chapel.Gavin didn’t care where they got married, as long as Erin was with him.Jill walked down the aisle with Beta Seth followed by a couple more bridesmaids and groomsmen from the pack.Soon, it would be Kelsey and Tyler, the best man and maid of honor.Then, it would be Erin.His Erin.The thought filled him with so much joy; Roman could hardly wait to see his mate after days of barely seeing her.The music was playing loudly and the doors to the chapel remained closed.Kelsey and Tyler were supposed to walk through the doors by now.What was keeping them?Gavin envisioned his best man being drunk and Kelsey trying to sober
Gavin’s POV“Are you out of your mind?!” Gavin asked as soon as they were back in the packhouse and away from the ears of Theo. “Why would you tell him I’ll join the organization?”“Did you not want to?” Erin asked, raising her brows. “I saw the look in your eyes. I knew you wanted to.”“That doesn’t matter. What about our pup?”“What about our pup?” Erin counter-asked, folding her arms across her chest. “Our pup will be just fine. It’s not like we are going to be absent parents. I’ve been part of the organization this whole time and you’ve never noticed.”“But I didn’t know you were on dangerous missions. If anything happens to us—”“Nothing is going to happen to us. Theo will make sure of that,” she assured him, but he didn’t feel very reassured.“But if something does happen to us… our pup would be an orphan,” he said, meeting her eyes.“Then, let’s make sure nothing happens to us,” she said, taking him b
Gavin’s POVGavin spent the last few days working tiredly in the nursery. He’s been wanting to surprise Erin with this for a long time and he was excited to reveal it to her.Erin spent the next few evenings giving the nursery her own final touches.But one afternoon, she tiredly came into his office, peering over at him with a timid frown on her face.“Have you been sleeping?” He asked, narrowing his eyes at her paling face.“A little at a time,” she admitted. “The pup is very active and makes sleeping difficult.”“I’ll call the doctor and see if he can prescribe you anything,” he said, about to pick up the phone.“I’d rather not take medication. Maybe if he knows of a natural solution or remedies,” I said.“I’ll ask him,” he assured me.“Can it wait until later, though?” I asked. “My boss, Theo from the organization wants to speak with you.”Gavin heard stories about the leader of the org
Erin’s POV5 months later.I sat at the bakery, staring at the many pieces of cake that sat before me on incredibly fancy dining ware.“I think all the cake is delicious,” Jill, who sat beside me, said with a mouthful of cake.“Yes, but I need to find the best one,” I said in return.“I really love red velvet,” Kelsey said from the other side of Jill as she took a big spoonful of the red velvet cake.“I never get to eat like this. I’m always worried about my figure. Let me have my moment,” Jill pleased. “Besides, I spent the last few months hiding in a safe house.”After months of searching for Jessie to no prevail, we decided to move on with our lives. Which meant bringing Gavin’s family home.“In just a few days, I’m going to be walking down the aisle to marry my mate,” I breathed, a large smile spreading across my face. “Everything has to be perfect.”“Oh, don’t forget, you have lunch with my mother th
Gavin’s POVOut of all the things for Erin to blurt out at that moment, Gavin certainly was not expecting that one.Her face was as red as cherry as soon as those words left her mouth.She couldn’t believe she blurted it out like that either.“You’re pregnant?” Gavin managed to ask after what felt like an eternity of silence.Tears filled her eyes, and he could see the shame that lurked behind her gaze. She was truly struggling with this, and Gavin didn’t understand why.Unless the baby wasn’t ours.“Oh… it’s ours,” Roman said, sniffing the air. “She’s having our pups!”“You knew about this?” Gavin growled at his wolf. “And you didn’t think to tell me?”“Our mate was right, with everything going on, it never seemed like the right time. Besides, I only now just picked up the scent. Go easy on her… I don’t want anything disrupting this baby of ours.”“Are you mad?” Erin brought Gavin out of his con
Erin’s POV“Gavin is awake,” Beta Seth said into the phone.Relief flooded through me.Thank goddess; that meant he was going to be okay, and I could finally breathe. It’s been killing me not being able to go to the hospital. But with Jessie still, out there, we were all still in so much danger.Theo doesn’t think Jessie is going to strike back this soon, especially when her reputation has been tanked as soon as her identity was revealed to the public.But that didn’t make me any less worried that she would soon return.“The first person he asked about was you,” Seth continued, pulling at my heartstrings painfully.I hated that I couldn’t be with Gavin, but finding Jessie right now was way too important.“He also doesn’t think bringing his family home is a good idea,” Seth said with uncertainty in his voice. “I thought it was mentioned that there’s no trace of Jessie or anyone left in her organization.”
Erin’s POV“…!!”“Oh, my goddess,” Emily cried from within me.I felt her heart shattering just as I saw Gavin falling to the ground.Red was oozing under my wolfed paws as his blood mixed with the water.The water was done spraying, and Gavin and I were left on the roof alone. I fell to my knees and placed my hands on Gavin’s chest. The dagger stuck out of him, and blood continued to ooze.“Gavin… no…” I whispered as tears fell from my eyes. I felt so broken at this moment; I couldn’t lose him. Not like this.“Don’t let her get away,” he said in a raspy whisper. “She’s still alive…”I knew I needed to go after her; I couldn’t let her get away after it took us so long to find her. But the image of Gavin bleeding out before my eyes was too painful. I couldn’t just walk away from him.Theo and a couple of the men from the organization burst through the doors of the rooftop and he narrowed his eyes at
Erin’s POVPregnant?!My heart thudded violently against my chest.Could I really be pregnant?I pressed the palm of my hands to my stomach and felt that warmth radiating throughout my body and giving me strength.I gasped.I knew at that moment that it was true.I had a little pup in me.I kept my hands on my stomach as I turned to face Jessie.“You wouldn’t hurt me knowing that I’m carrying a small pup,” I said to her, narrowing my eyes at her stunned expression.“You’re pregnant?!” She gasped, staring at me with wide eyes. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” In high school, when envisioned getting pregnant with Gavin’s baby much later in life, I obviously thought it would be much different than this.I never imagined in a million years that my best friend would be trying to kill me.I always thought Jessie would be the first person who knew that I was pregnant, and I gue
