Margot’s POV

I stood up from my seat, followed by judgmental looks from everyone present. They all heard my boyfriend's hateful words.

"Shameless wh*re," I almost stumbled, hearing someone's spiteful comment. Who were they to speak like that? I rushed to the entrance before anyone could say anything else, choking on my tears.

I couldn't care less about their opinion, but I could not forget the hatred in Sam's eyes. Why did he not give me a chance to speak to explain what happened? Why couldn't he spare me a minute of his time?

Instead, he looked at me as if I was a worthless piece of trash. His eyes were cold, nothing like I had known them for years. He could as well be a complete stranger to me.

I could barely remember my way back to the apartment. I managed to close my door before I completely broke down. I slid to the floor, sobbing.

I spent some time there before I could muster myself to stand up. I dragged myself to the bedroom, removing my dress and throwing it in the bin. I would not be able to wear it again since it would remind me of the humiliation I received that night.

I plopped onto the sofa, staring blankly at the ceiling. I could not gather my thoughts since my mind kept replying to the scene from the restaurant.

I could not remember when I finally drifted into sleep, exhausted.

I woke up the next day, the pain subsided, replaced with burning rage. This whole rage was directed toward one person.

Nathan Blackwood destroyed my life in more ways than I could imagine. He used me while I was unconscious and used the fact to destroy my relationship with Sam.

If that was his plan- so be it! But I want him to look in my face and tell me why he would do it. I wanted him to know what he did to me.

I made breakfast and forced myself to eat at least a few bites, even if my stomach was twisting from pain and anger.

After that, I called the taxi, and gave an address to the driver. It was not a mystery where I would find this bast*rd. His skyscraper was the tallest building in the town with a ridiculously huge logo on top: Blackwood Enterprise. It looked like he was giving everyone below him a middle finger. Perfect place for a scumbag like him. I was sure he built it with the hard work of people he used or robbed.

Thanks to the neverending traffic in the early hours, I reached my destination in twenty minutes.

I grabbed my purse and marched inside before the courage would leave me.

" Hello, how can I help you?" A pretty blond-haired girl greeted me in reception. She had a sweet, innocent face. I wondered how she ended up here. Wasn't she aware of who her boss was?

" I would like to see Mr Blackwood," I replied politely. She was not my enemy.

" Do you have an appointment?" The receptionist asked, glancing at her computer screen.

" I am afraid I don't. Could you be so kind as to check if he would spare me a minute?" I knew that meeting wouldn’t last much longer. I had no desire to stay here longer than I needed.

" Well, Mr Blackwood is very busy," the girl glanced at me with hesitation.

I am sure he was- destroying others' lives can be time-consuming. Unless he was right now stealing someone's work to present it as his. That was how he built his empire, after all.

" Please, can you check?" I looked at the girl pleadingly. I felt a little sad about putting her in this situation. Nathan could take his anger on her for letting me in.

" Okay, please give me your name," the receptionist smiled, and my chest tightened. I hope she will not be in too much trouble after all.

" Margot Roberts," I gave her my name, holding my head high.

" Give me a moment," the girl replied, reaching for the phone. After a moment, she smiled at me, listening to whoever was on the other end of the line.

" Mr Blackwood will see you now," she informed me, and I let out a breath I held. " His office is on the third floor."

I raised my brow, surprised. I would expect Nathan’s office to be on the top floor, where he could be above the others as the emperor of his empire.

" Thank you," I mumbled and rushed to the elevator.

I reached the third floor in no time.

" Mr Blackwood is expecting you," another blonde-haired girl greeted me as soon as I left the elevator. She pointed to the office on her right.

" Thank you, it won't take long," I replied, following her directions. Why was I explaining myself to her?

The door to Nathan’s office was slightly ajar, and I did not bother knocking.

I pushed the door and stepped into a modern room, mostly filled with white furniture. Here and there stood robots.

Blackwood Enterprise was the leader in robotics. Their projects were recognised around the world, and Nathan was the CEO.

Sam and I worked in the same field but could never compare to his company. Probably because we have never stolen other people's work. We were proud of what we achieved together.

I pushed those thoughts away, trying not to think about Sam's 'offer' from yesterday. The possibility of losing my company only made me angrier.

Nathan kept his head low, not in shame, no. He was focused on whatever he was doing on his desk. I saw parts of an unidentified machine neatly spread across his desk. New project. I wonder who invented it.

I came closer when Nathan finally raised his head and looked at me. He stood up and cleaned his hands with a cloth.

" Margot, what brings you here?" He asked, coming closer. I glanced at him, and without warning, I slapped him across his face. I put my whole frustration and anger into his move. " That brings me in," I hissed, balling my fists.

Anger flashed in Nathan’s eyes when he touched his cheek, which was now wearing my fingerprints.

" That was not smart," he spoke in an icy tone.

" I do not give a sh*it about that. You have ruined my life. Tell me, do you feel proud of yourself?

Nathan moved his jaw as if checking it for any injuries. Overdramatic bast*rd.

" I will give you exactly one opportunity to explain why you did what you did."

I gasped. Was he serious, or was he okaying dumb?

" Was I not clear enough? Then, let me be clear. You told Sam about what happened that night, didn't you? You could not stop yourself?" I hissed.

" I did not," Nathan offered me a disappointed glance.

" I gave you my word."

" Your word is worth less than dust on this floor. I knew you came there that day to expose me."

Nathan looked hurt, and I almost laughed.

" I wasn't there on purpose. It was a coincidence," he said slowly, and I chuckled. "Coincidence? Please, spare me those lies."

This time, anger in his eyes was evident. " Don’t call me a liar."

I shrugged my arms. " Fine, I will say you have a serious problem maintaining the truth."

" You are no better than they. I was blind to do not see it. " Nathan almost growled. " That night was a mistake."

" You reckon?" My voice dripped with venom.

" Now, when I think about it, maybe I should not step in and save you back then."

" Save me? I do not need saving- especially from you."

" I can see that now. Maybe after all, you did want to go out with that guy? It seemed like you know each other since you shared the same circle of friends. " Nathan gave me a quick glance, but not quick enough to cover the disgust that flashed in his eyes.

What was he talking about?

" What guy?"

Margot's POV I woke up with a slight groan. My head was killing me. I pressed my palm to my throbbing temples, hoping that would ease the pain and help with nausea. The room was dark, but I could swear it was spinning. This night out was a bad idea. I should have never agreed to that. Unfortunately, it was impossible to say 'no' to Nicole, my best friend. She could be very persistent when she wanted. ‘ Focus your eyes on something familiar’, I have instructed myself, trying to return to reality. I blinked my eyes a few times since my vision was blurry. Slowly, furniture shapes became clearer, and panic rose in my chest. Nothing looked familiar here. I was in a room I had never seen before. ‘ Don't panic. There has to be an explanation,’ I thought, but then I realised how outdated this advice was since my heart was already thundering in my chest. I took a deep breath to calm down. I have checked myself. My body was naked, but there were no ropes or tapes. That was a good s

Margot's POV “ Hello.” Nicole's sleepy voice indicated that my friend was finally done partying. “ Where are you?” I snapped at her as the rage rose in my chest. My tone was harsh, filled with disappointment. “ At home. Where else could I be at this time? What is your problem?” Nicole asked angrily. “ What is my problem? You left me alone!” My voice raised, and I had to remind myself I was in the taxi. This night out was Nicole's idea. She was the one nagging me to join her. This type of entertainment is not my cup of tea. “ I did not. You left with some guy.” Nicole yawned loudly. “ We had a deal. We will go out together and be back together.” I reminded her of our agreement. That was my only condition before I agreed to this idea.“ I am not your babysitter,” Nicole replied coldly. “ You are a grown-up woman. I don't have to hold your hand all the time.” Those words took me aback. Nicole was usually friendly and bubbly, not distant like this. I may have pushed it too far.

  • One Night Stand with the Enemy   Chapter seven

Margot’s POV I was still shaking after the incident in Sam’s office. Meeting with Nathan only made everything worse. I could not understand what had happened to my boyfriend, and I was scared that Nathan already revealed the truth about last night. He promised to let me do it, but how could I be sure he would keep his word? Especially after I found him in front of my company? What business could bring him there other than exposing me? This man had no decent human feelings. Why would he care about mine? Of course, he wouldn’t since that was an excellent opportunity to hurt Sam. I made a chamomile tea and sipped it slowly, hoping it would ease my anxiety. I leaned back on my sofa, trying to calm my raging thoughts. Vikki’s smiling face popped on top of them. Why did Sam let her in? Why did he even talk to her? He should have known better how I felt about her. I took a deep breath. This was a problem for another time. I will convince Sam to avoid Vikki and her father’s business.

Third-party POV I leaned back in my chair, massaging tense muscles on my neck. Nothing was going as I had planned. From the very start, this day was an utter disaster. I groaned in pain as the stress was overwhelming. So much planning could be destroyed. I could not let this happen. Someone knocked at my office door. “ Not now, “ I said in a cold voice. Whoever it was could wait. I had enough of unpleasant visits for one day. Another knock, someone was persistent. “It is better important, or I will kill this motherfu*ker,” I mumbled to myself, yanking the door knob. “ What?” I barked. My assistant stepped back; her face became pale, and she trembled. “ I am sorry, boss. There is someone to see you,” she barely whispered, darting her eyes to the floor. Great! “ I am busy. Send this person away,” I replied, “and look at me when I am talking to you.” She raised her face, and I noticed tears in her eyes. Now, she probably ran to the bathroom. “ I told them you are busy
