Twenty One

*AALIYAH*

My hair covers my entire pale face, making me look like a squirrel that narrowly escaped the predator's sword. I stumble toward my bed as a sharp agony shoots down my spine.

"Oh, that poor baby." Nikki shouts, rushing to my defense. "You look like a mess." She cleans my face of hair.

"What happened?" Linda asks as she follows Nikki, she throws her napkin to the side.

They both encircle me in a cozy hug. giving me a gentle pat. They are more than simply friends to me; they are more than family. After the incident, I've never felt this much affection. Even though I lost a friend, I did gain two others, albeit not in the best of circumstances. I don't mind if this comforting hug is the only thing they can give me.

“Do you still feel pain from what that nasty woman did to you, poor baby?” She gently places me in a chair.

“It does, but not in comparison to the hardship I'm experiencing.”

“Oh no, what might that be?” Linda's voice was quite worried.
