Third POV
The atmosphere in the lair was ominous and foreboding. The eerie sound coupled with the dimly lit room which was illuminated with a few candles was another element that just couldn't be ignored.Seated around the large table in the middle of the room were members of the seekers.Their faces were hardened as they all had their attention on just one person — the leader, who was seated at the head of the table. The seekers were a mysterious organization known for evil. Each time they converged in their meeting place which was the lair that was hidden from the rest of the world, they were always up to no good.Masked, their leader was drumming his finger against the table while looking from one member to the other until he had fully immersed their features.“Time is running out, so we have to act quickly.” He broke the silence in the room thereby increasing the attentiveness of the members.Davies Pov I was uneasy. It wasn't because of Raina’s threat to break out of the prison and exert her revenge but because of what the seekers had said to her. “With Stephanie dead, I will become weak.” I stood at the edge of the dungeon, my eyes fixed on the dark, damp stone. The air was heavy with decay, but it was nothing compared to the weight of my memories.Resting my weight against the wall with my hands folded in front of me, I stared into his space, my mind travelling down memory lane. It all started several years ago when my mother, a rare dragon, fell in love with my father who was a Lycan King. Those days when I was but just a child, a time when my world was full of wonder and magic. My mother, a rare dragon with scales that shone like gold in the sunlight, would tell me stories of our family's history. She would speak of her ancestors, of the great deeds the dragons had done, and of the bravery that lies within each scale. It made me less guilty of my dual identity.
STEPHANIE POVI was still in Davies' study, sipping from my mug of tea while I awaited his arrival. He promised to come as soon as possible. However, I was becoming bored.Recalling the heap of flowers I had fallen on a few days ago, I sucked my teeth in anger. That bitch was truly ruthless. I still shook at the hatred in her eyes towards me. Raina hated me. But how on earth did she get that flower poisoned?“No wonder I couldn't perceive anything from them even when I fell on them.” I muttered, pushing my hair away from my face with a hand while grasping the mug with the other. I squinted at the thought of checking those flowers again played into my head. I know Davies wouldn't let me get close to those flowers again but I really want to check them out.Setting the mug on the table, I headed towards the door. Before proceeding to the garden to have a look at the flowers, I looked around the hallway to confirm that no one was tailing me. Davies has several shadow guards on the loo
Davies' POV Her curiosity has begun to terrify me. If only she hadn't seen the journal, I wouldn't be here, thinking of the perfect tale to tell her that would make her less terrified. Feeling frustrated, I turned my back on her, heading towards the table when she grabbed my arm, causing me to halt. “Aren't you going to answer my questions?” She yelled, her eyes almost popping out of her eyelids. The fear in them couldn't be missed. “Everything will be fine.” I said, flashing her a reassuring smile to calm her down but her expression remained the same. “Please Davies, I want to know everything.” She stressed her words. “I want to know every single thing so I can be mentally and physically prepared.” Grabbing her head with both hands, she yelled, “I understand that I’m in grave danger but please… don't keep me in the dark.” Pressing my lips into a thin line,I tossed my head backwards as I honest
DAVIES POVMaybe I celebrated too quickly because she immediately went stiff. The smile on her face slowly faded. Was she truly not accepting me?I could feel Draugluin brawling inside and I tried to stop its aura enveloping us. I couldn't scare her more than she did.“ The seekers…” she muttered, clutching her stomach tightly. I squinted at her reaction. Was she concerned about what Raina told her? “ Stephanie…”She suddenly blurted out, taking a step backward. “ I can accept you, Davies. I can accept Kylo and Draugluin too. But…. What about my child? The seekers would stop at nothing to…”I felt her worry. I felt her fear, afterall, no one can feel my predicament like me. I was torn between an identity I never bargained for and an identity I wanted so badly. The identity of Stephanie's mate, so I could spend my whole life with her. Without the fear of her rejecting me. But it seems the identity I never barg
Third POV Raina kept creating a scene, yelling on the top of her voice to make Davies return to her side but he blocked his ears to her screams. Since he was unable to get anything meaningful from her, Davies returned to his Chambers to nurse his wounds. Dejected, he slowly lowered himself on the foot of his bed, his head buried in his hands as he let out multiple signs of frustration. A while before now, he believed he was finally getting to the point of breakthrough where he would put an end to the seekers. “She keeps getting on my nerves.” He sucked his teeth, pushing behind Raina’s image as he rubbed his hands together. Suddenly, he began to hear muffled voices in the hallway. Wondering what was going on, he stepped out of his chambers only to see Stephanie struggling with the guard. “You should be getting some rest, why?” He asked and at once the two warring individuals turned towards him. While the
Stephanie's POV It's been one week since Davies opened up to me. I was still worried about the seekers and the safety of my children. “Are you certain?” One of the maids in the clique asked and the tale bearer nodded to confirm her words. “I wonder who she is and why exactly he is hunting for her like she is a prey.” Another huffed. “Most Alpha’s think they have the world at the tip of their fingers, doing and undoing things whenever they like and how it pleases them.” She added with an eye roll. “ Why did you say so?” One of them asked. The maid cleared her throat before whispering. However, I noticed I could hear her clearly. It all began after taking Davies' blood. I felt my senses were sharper and I became even stronger. I haven't told Davies yet of these changes because I want to be sure.“ I heard he rejected the said lady because of his lover even when he found out she was his mate. So cruel….”“ Maybe he just realized his mistakes?” Another interjected which was followed
Stephanie's POV Still bothered with the conversation of the maids from earlier, I decided to pay a visit to Raina in the dungeon. Getting out of my chambers was a hassle as Davies had stationed two guards to be by the door, preventing me from leaving. Pacing about my chamber, I brainstormed on the perfect way to wriggle myself out but I couldn't think of anything. Just when I was about to give up, the door creaked open and my personal maid walked in with a tray of food. “The Alpha asked me to bring this to you.” She said, setting the tray on the bedside table. With a curt bow, she turned to leave. She was already at the door when I grabbed her arm, pulling her back into the center of the room. “Can you do me a favor?” I asked. Since she wasn't expecting such a request from me, it took a while before I got a consenting nod and a look of uncertainty from her. Relieved, I whispered my simple plan into her ear. Her eyes bulged out at my request and I could see hesitation on her s
Third POV Stephanie was still thinking of how to escape all through the next three days. She couldn't bring herself to hurt Davies and the lycans. These people had treated her very well since she came to the Kingdom. “ You have been moody for a while, Lady Stephanie,” Kira's voice dragged her from her thoughts.Stephanie just smiled faintly, not ready to share her secret with anyone. After a few seconds of silence, Stephanie finally sighed.“ My lady, pull yourself together. The king wants to see you. He is in the royal forest…”Stephanie squinted, however she stood up reluctantly. “ Let's go.” She didn't want Davies to suspect her intention. She walked slowly toward the garden but Kira pointed at a path for her.“ Just follow the lane. I want to take care of something urgent, my lady.”With that Kira skipped away and Stephanie found herself walking toward the lane. Few minutes later, her eyes caugh
Davies’s POVAt the seekers' lair, the moment Stephanie stepped out with the kids, I wanted to rush to her side and give her a bear hug but somehow, I was able to hold back from doing so.And when she ran to Gregory immediately, my heart shredded into a million pieces. So as not to dwell on the scene playing right beside me, I busied myself watching the fire that was rising into the sky.To keep Stephanie close, I had offered to host them for the night and to my delight, he accepted without making a fuss.Even with her presence and the fire crackling in the fireplace of the bar, the house was cold. With my back turned on them, I kept my gaze out of the windows as my heart clenched against my chest. Stephanie tried all she could to lighten the mood but Gregory was distant and just the same way she was hurt with his attitude, so was I. Pushing my hand into my pockets, I swirled around. It was then I discovered Stephanie had left Gregory to himself and I was glad she did. Was I happy
Stephanie’s POVFinally, it was all over. The seekers had all gone to fight Gregory and the army but none of them returned to the dimly lit hall for me and my kids, not even the old seeker. Scooping my kids in my arms, I placed a tender kiss on their foreheads, holding them to my chest as relief watched through me.The thought of losing one of them had made me terrified as cold chills ran through my spines. After kicking off the bowl the old seeker had placed my son in readiness for the sacrifice, I turned around to leave. They were fast asleep, so they were oblivious of what was happening around them. “This way." One of Gregory's soldiers said, steering me down a path which led out of the Seekers lair. The moment I stepped out into the bright night, I saw them. Gregory was standing tall with blood dripping down one side of his face while Davies stood behind him. “Raze down the cave." Davies commanded and immediately, the night erupted into bright flames. Still clutching my kids
Alpha Gregory’s POVFinally, it was the day of the ritual.Stephanie and the kids were finally going to return to me once more. All through the day, I was giddy with excitement that I couldn't sit still. The prospect of having my family back after several days was too good to be true that I couldn't think of anything else.“You should get some rest, it's going to be a long night." Davies had said to me countless times but I always shoved his words to the side. An hour before the ritual would begin, Davies and I went over our plans with our allies for the last time before we ventured into the dark night. The closer we got to the lair, the thicker the tension in the air. I bet I was the only one feeling this way because Davies and the others were unfazed. The Lycans moved in silence, their eyes glowing in the dark and their claws were extended and ready for the bloodshed to come. The Dragons towered above the
Stephanie's POVResting my back against the cold wall, I had my knees pulled up to my chin with my eyes all over the place. The only thing I could think about were my kids. Ever since we got abducted, I haven't been allowed to see them. Their incessant cries were the only thing that gave me hope that they were alive, nothing more. Holding my breath, I tried to pull myself to my feet but I couldn't as I was cramped. I have been confined to this little space and so I didn't have enough space to move my legs about. What should I do now? I was the seekers' target and not the kids. If anything happens to my innocent children, I will never be able to forgive myself.Suddenly, the sound of approaching footsteps in the hallway came to an end and almost immediately, the door creaked open and one of the seekers stepped in. Scrambling to my feet, I asked, “My kids, how are they? You said you were going to check with
Davies's POV With my hands tucked inside my pockets, I fixed my gaze on the flickering flames of the fireplace in my study. The room was warm, yet I felt cold. It wouldn't be long before I become completely frozen. Instead of going to meet Gregory in his pack, I had invited him over so we could plan on how to take down the seekers once and for all. It took us several hours but still, we have been unable to come up with something solid. Just when it seemed like we were getting a breakthrough, there would be an obstacle or a loophole that would leave us with no choice but to start all over again. The truth was, there was no perfect plan but of course, there was one which could be regarded as almost perfect. Infiltrating the seekers' hideout was the plan and unlike the last time when I was the only one who needed to be rescued, three delicate lives were on the line. And we intend to save them all.
Davies's POV It was getting more messy. Gregory was losing his head and as if that was not enough, he had resumed blaming me for being behind Stephanie's and the kid's abduction. Clasping my hands, I leaned against the window pane, allowing my eyes to travel the distance as different thoughts swirled around my head.It had been confirmed that the seekers had them but no matter how much I tried, I just couldn't locate their hiding place. Just when I was about to go berserk and kick things into the air, an idea struck and it sounded like the breakthrough I wanted. Instead of staying in the shadows and searching for the seekers current location, I will put myself out there so they will know what I was up to. My plan clicked and in less than twenty four hours, I was invited by the head of the seekers.Without wasting time, I embarked on the journey and on arrival since I was being expected, I was led right int
Alpha Gregory's POV With each passing day, the hope of seeing Stephanie and the kids was getting thinner but I wasn't going to give up until I found them. Most times, I couldn't help but blame myself for getting involved with Davies. If only I hadn't agreed to her request of going to rescue him when he was at the seekers' lair, this wouldn’t have happened. My family is going to remain intact and we will have nothing to worry about. A few minutes ago, Frank had stepped out to meet with Davies who had just arrived at the pack house. I had intentionally refused to meet with him because I didn't trust myself. Each time I saw him, I would become furious since I considered him the architect of my woes but I never said that to him directly. Falling back on the couch, I tossed my head backwards, allowing a low wince to escape from my lips. I hope you’re fine, hang on, I will come and get you very soon, I promise. – I thought, my heart constricting against my chest. The scenario I was g
Davies's POVTitling my head to the side, a low wince escaped from my lips.Just when I thought things had returned to normalcy, they struck again but their target this time was Stephanie and her kids.I felt guilty for pulling Stephanie into the mess I had created. Before I could open my mouth to speak, my decision had been made, “I’m coming.”“Thank you." Gregory said, patting my back while I just nodded. He didn't need to thank me. I was the one who created the mess so it was only right for me to clean up.“We are going to find Stephanie and the kids." I said, my hand resting on my chest to show I was being sincere with my words. To save them, I was willing to do whatever it takes even if I had to put my life on the line to make it happen.
Davies's POVIt had been two weeks since Alpha Gregory rescued me from the hands of the seekers and I had recovered fully.Looking back, I could only imagine what the seekers would have done to me if not for his timely intervention I was immensely grateful for.Life had returned to normalcy.I no longer spent my day constantly looking over my shoulders and wondering what next the seekers were up to.Walking up to the window in my study, I allowed my eyes to linger on the lush vegetation that went on for miles as I thought of only one person.Stephanie.I had tried all I could to forget about her after the warning I received from Gregory's beta but it was to no avail. Each time, I found myself thinking about her, where she was and if she was thinking about me too.
