SOPHIA
Call me crazy for agreeing to his sick terms, but I did not have a choice. Dark Moon pack was the only home I had ever known. I lost my father at the age of eight, I had never known my mother's identity, I only knew that she abandoned me at the hospital with a letter addressed to my father, telling him she wasn't ready to be a mother or to be married. Whether she was alive or dead, I didn't have the faintest idea. After my father died in an accident while running errands for the beta as his personal assistant, the beta and his wife, Beta Maximus and lady Miranda, thought it best to adopt me, and that was how I ended up growing up with Adeline, Hailey and Marilyn Blane - the beta's daughters - who stopped at nothing to make my life miserable.I agreed to the job, knowing that I would be in the same environment with Asher. He would see me from time to time, and maybe - just maybe - it would change his mind. I hoped to remind him of all the love we had shared, all the dreams and plans we had together. But as the days turned to weeks, he grew colder and more distant, until he eventually started to look through me.And Adeline? Oh! She saw me alright.I was the only maid she saw in the entire pack house. She made me do her hair, dress her matrimonial bed, cook her meals, wash her clothes, take care of all her needs. As if that wasn't enough, she often made me do the dirtiest chores, like draining the gutters, clearing the compost pit alone, digging the garden for roots and herbs, all of this while taking care of her.Her sisters, Hailey and Marilyn showed up very often after she was crowned Luna. They spared no attempt to mock me. At different intervals, they had poured food on my hair, all because it was either "too salty", "too sweet", or "too spicy".I cried every night, asking the goddess what I had ever done to deserve such cruelty, but I never got answers.Three weeks into the torture, I fell sick. I would often be fatigued after doing the slightest of chores. I became selective with my meals because a lot of things made me more nauseous. I started feeling bloated, slow, but I made sure to mask it most of the time because Adeline always took advantage of my weaknesses. However, on this particular evening, it was hard to hide. While washing the dishes and still baking cranberry pies for Adeline and her sisters, the room started to spin around me.I dropped the plate in the sink and rinsed my hands with the rushing water, and placed my right hand on my forehead, but it didn't seem to help. I closed my eyes to suck in deep breaths, but the longer I tried to stand, the worse I felt.I opened my eyes and held onto the sink. I wanted to finish the dishes at least, Adeline would kill me if I wasn't done by the time she got back.Immediately I picked up the plate, it slipped from my hands and shattered into pieces on the floor. I jumped backwards in shock, and the jump seemed to drain all my energy."Help!" I tried to scream, but I wasn't sure anyone had heard me. I couldn't hold myself up on my feet anymore, and soon, I felt myself fall to the ground beside the broken pieces of the ceramic plate.~By the time I opened my eyes, the smell of disinfectant kissed my nostrils, causing me to sneeze with pain. I opened my eyes to find Martha, a fellow maid and my friend, smiling down at me as she placed a hand on my forehead."It's alright, Sophia. Take it easy."I struggled to sit up, and she assisted me, before I looked around."Where am I?"The walls were polished with bright blue paint, and I was seated on a stretcher, clad in a white and blue printed hospital dress."You're in the pack house hospital. You collapsed in the kitchen, so I had to bring you here." She looked up at the clock on the wall and gasped in shock."I'm really sorry, Sophia. I have to leave now. Let me know when you're back, okay?" She let go of my hand as she rose from her stool. I flashed her a small smile and watched as she walked out of the room. Immediately she left, a female doctor walked in with an envelope in her hands."You're awake, miss Bailey. That's great." She said, smiling at me.I narrowed my eyes on her. I could tell she was happy I had not passed on to the land of the dead, but was that enough reason for the grin spread across her cheeks."Yes, I'm sure it is." I replied, staring down at the envelope in her hands. Was that for me?"You gave your friend quite a scare. When she brought you to the hospital unconscious, I was very worried. But, I found out - as your test results would say - that it is what happens when a weaker wolf is carrying a strong foetus."I corked my right brow at her, noticeably feeling better."And what does that have to do with me? This weaker wolf and foetus thing?"She looked at me like I was crazy, before breaking out into another smile."You don't know?!""Know what?""hmm." She shook her hand and held out the envelope to me."I guess it's a good thing I printed this out after all, even though I thought you would already know because pups with alpha blood normally make themselves noticeable in the first thirteen days, and seeing as you are an omega, it should have been earlier, but..."What was she saying? I snatched the envelope from her and tore it open. What did I have to do with an alpha pup and...My breath ceased and my heart stopped to beat immediately my eyes caught sight of the words written in bold fonts, all in capital letters; PREGNANT.My eyes moved to the top of the paper to find the name on the result; SOPHIA BAILEY.I couldn't breathe. I looked up at the doctor with tears in my eyes and saw that she was still speaking. I held the paper in my hands and rose from the stretcher, uninterested in any other word she had to say."Wait! Miss Bailey, it's dangerous to leave without the necessary medications!"The doctor tried to call after me, but I didn't stop to hear anything she had to say. I couldn't.It was raining when I stepped outside the hospital, but I didn't care. I ran into the rain and let it soak me from the crown of my head to the sole of my feet, allowing it wash my tears away. What was I supposed to do?'Why don't you tell him?' I heard my wolf, Dawn, whisper softly in my ears.As I pushed open the door of the maid quarters, I scoffed.Tell him? What good would that do? He already made his choice! He picked his mate over me.'That was before he knew you are carrying his baby. Tell him, Sophia. He knows he is the only man you have ever been with. It might just be the miracle you are searching for. The one that would change his mind.' Dawn said.I was a tad bit comforted by her words. People said she was weak because she was a small white omega, but she was filled with wisdom and love, and that was what got me through the nightmare of the night.I decided to write a letter to Asher. I had lost my phone and contact with him after he was crowned alpha king. I slid the test result into the envelope and snuck into his study. He wasn't there, so I slid the envelope underneath his laptop, hoping he would catch a glimpse of it.I returned to the servant's quarters and waited. If he got the letter, he would know at what time to send me a response.About three hours later, there was a knock on my door. I jumped down from my bed even with little strength and rushed to the door. Just as I had expected, a guard from the palace stood in front of my door with a white envelope, bound by the royal seal.My heart hammered against the walls of my chest. It was a reply from him!"A letter for miss Sophia Bailey from the house of King Asher Morris.""That's me. I'm Sophia Bailey." I managed to speak. He handed me the letter and I snatched it from his hand before closing the door and pressing my back against it. I tore the letter open with shaky hands, and quickly skimmed through the content written in black ink.My heart sunk and my shoulders fell with every paragraph I read."I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TRICKS YOU HAVE UP YOUR SLEEVE, SOPHIA. BUT I, ALPHA ASHER MORRIS, DENY YOUR CLAIMS. I WILL HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH WHATEVER IT IS YOU CLAIM YOU CARRY.AND IF IT IS AT ALL TRUE, THEN IT IS A THREAT TO THE FAMILY I INTEND TO BUILD WITH ADELINE, A THREAT THAT CANNOT REAR ITS HEAD. THEREFORE, IF YOU WANT TO LIVE TO SEE YOUR BABY, YOU WOULD LEAVE DARK MOON TONIGHT.DISAPPEAR, SOPHIA. MOVE ON. I NEVER WANT TO SEE YOU AGAIN, AND BELIEVE ME, YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE ME TOO, BECAUSE MINE WOULD BE THE LAST FACE YOU GET TO LOOK AT. THIS IS NOT A THREAT, IT IS A PROMISE."My knees failed me and I crumbled to the ground with tears in my eyes.Once again, Asher had succeeded in breaking my heart, but this was the last time it would ever happen.I decided to run, pack my things and leave the pack house that night, use whatever money I have left on me to escape Dark Moon. Swearing with my life, that I would never return.Never.EIGHT YEARS LATER SOPHIA "It was safe to say a lot of things could change in eight years. I mean, when I took the bold step of running for my life - not that I had a choice - I did not think I would be standing here, today, in the midst of beautiful and strong minds, sharing my story." The crowd applauded and cheered. I could hear tiny bits of laughter erupting from different ends of the hall. They must have thought I was making a joke by saying I had to run for my life. If only they truly knew. "When I came into Crescent Heart, I came as an orphan, with nothing except from the triplets residing in the womb, and at that point, I had not even know they were three." The audience - mainly consisting of steadfast, young, intelligent and resilient young women like myself, bursted into laughter again. I chuckled along with them, but the memories of all those dark days threatened to bring tears to me. I couldn't cry, not on this auspicious day. "I had to get a job as a waitress in a co
ASHER "Whatever shall we do, your highness?!" "He is getting worse as the days go by!" "We need help, serious help. Call whoever you need to, my king, my family and I would pay, but I cannot sit back and watch my son die in the hands of a thing we do not even know, and I..." "Silence!" I growled, raising the index finger of my right hand to the crowd of ten men kneeling in front of me. One of them held onto the hem of my robe and I kicked his hand away. I didn't need any of them touching me. Not after irritating me with their constant whining. "Listen. I have said this before and I would say it again. The elders and I are working on a solution. We have contacted a famous doctor from Crescent Heart, whom we believe can help, and she would be here soon. There is no cause for alarm." I did not know where my elders had seen her, or heard about her, but she has achieved great feats in Crescent Heart, and was known for her most famous research paper on small pox, which helped cure it
SOPHIA The Saturday did start on a very good note. The boys woke up cheerful that morning, and were quick to the little chores I had assigned to all their little butts. It wasn't until after breakfast that I understood why they had been so civil that morning. When David walked to me while I was studying, sat by my side and asked me; "Mummy, can we go to the park today?" I knew that there had been a meeting between my boys either late last night, or early tomorrow morning. However, I couldn't say no to them, especially after they had been such good boys. So, we all got dressed, and I drove us to the park. We played ball, admired the trees, had so much ice cream, I was starting to get worried about my boys having a brain freeze. Then, we settled on the grass and admired how beautiful the sunny sky looked. "Mummy." I heard Daniel call out to me. I rolled over my back, and rested on my stomach so I could look into his eyes. David and Darwin were seated beside him, and neither of my b
ASHER The sounds of flesh slapping against each other filled my room and I moaned out in pleasure, willing myself into the intoxicating feeling of the good sex I was enjoying.I moaned again, this time, in almost the same rhythm as that of the lady under me who was on the mission of burying her claws inside my back, and I increased the pace with which I thrust into her to match her energy. This was what I had turned to since Adeline toyed with my feelings -a king who pays hookers to see himself as a man.“Argh!” She screamed with a pleasure filled voice and a smug of satisfaction appeared on my face.A knock came and the door to the room, almost immediately the door pushed open.I flashed a quick glance at the door to see Gaston stepping inside, and I chewed my teeth in anger, “whatever do you need now, Gaston?”“Sorry to disturb you, Alpha Asher but, this is a very crucial matter, you must know now that the doctor has arrived.”I collapsed on top of the girl on hearing Gaston's voi
SOPHIA The tears from my kids made me feel helpless. I could not do anything for my kids and literally, there was nothing I could do for them. I was bounded hands and feet with a cloth over my head, and my captors had not been a bit nice to keep us somewhere that was well ventilated, rather they kept us in a place reeking of stake blood. Was that how we were going to be treated? I asked myself.Dawn slightly moved as my heart began pounding against my chest. I was nervous, for some reason I couldn't fathom, I seemed to be hesitant yet ready to meet the person who made Dawn move.“Take off the cloth now,” 'Mate.' Dawn howled as she heard him speak and began moving frantically inside of me once the bag was taken off my face, giving us the chance to see the face of the man Dawn called her mate.My eyes widened as I saw Asher, I had many questions running in my mind all at once but, I tried to keep my cool but, Dawn was making it hard for me as she was excitedly jumping inside of me.“So
ASHER I don't know which was more difficult to believe; seeing Sophia after many years or the fact that she had gotten better within those years.I mean, the last time I saw her, she was an eighteen year old and a weak omega who couldn't make a decision without consulting me but, now she was… she was a whole different person and don't get me started on the way she handled her son like a professional doctor, which she was, I know but, I was awestruck by her skills. Our relationship then was all she had, but now, she had a profession and three kids to her name. My eyes trailed her body and I couldn't help but, notice the changes in her, eight years passed and Sophia turned a beautiful, courageous and admirable mother while I was just… just a shadow of my former self without an heir, or the ability to make one. With her face still bright with smiles, Sophia, looked up at me with the golden brown eyes I used to love. past tense? I quickly looked away from her and focused my gaze on the
SOPHIA “ This is your room,” one of the men said, both turning quickly to leave the room, still holding on to Darwin and David, who had woken up during the drive back here.“And the kids?” I asked with a panicked face.“ Their room is here,” he pointed to the door next to mine," just next to yours. They are not going far.”“ Thank you for your kind gesture but, we will be comfortable in this room, the four of us.” I reached over and grabbed Darwin and David, bringing them to my sides.“ We were instructed to put you in a different room to ensure your comfort.” The second guy spoke.“As you can see, these kids are too young to stay in separate rooms in a house that isn't ours so obviously also, staying away from their mother would not be comfortable for them or me either.”“Of course,” the first guy spoke, “have a pleased stay with you.”I gave him a false grin and gritted my teeth, “sure, we will be forced to do that anyway, so, why not.” I rolled my eyes and shut the door in their fa
ASHER Clouds of murmuring filled the air as I stepped into the courtroom. Elders who stood by the door bowed their heads in greeting only out of obligation - that, I knew - and murmured some words as I walked past them. “The Alpha is here,” Gaston announced, grateful that I came back in time to save his head from being chopped off by the elders. The man feared them for reasons I would never understand. I proceeded to occupy my position on the throne as the room quieted down, and the elders stood to greet me.“May the Alpha always find favor in the sight of the goddess.” they chorused and I hummed. Their greetings, I was certain, were merely chants and not a prayer, as it seemed to be. I knew not one of them was happy I was seated on the throne before them. I wasn't an idiot. I could tell by the frown that snuck into their faces when I turned away from them. “Please,” I said, motioning to them to take their seats, “to what do I owe this early morning summon?”“To what do you ow
This has been an emotional roller coaster for me. This story began in January, and since then, a lot of things have happened. I’ve been sick, I’ve had countless visits to the hospital, gotten an operation, entered final year in medical school, a lot of things actually. And finally, after nine months, I get to say goodbye to the beautiful Morris family, and everyone involved in their story. It wasn’t easy, but you all stood by me. I hope you enjoyed this story as much I almost enjoyed writing it. And I hope to see you again in my next project coming in OCTOBER, and my debut billionaire romance novel. Thank you all. Xoxo, Bella Hemsworth.
SEVEN MONTHS LATER AUTHOR The sound of the door closing had everyone up on their feet. Daniel, Darwin, Lillie who had been fidgeting on her seat, Queen Sophia, even little Emilia. The doctor blinked twice, fairly surprised by how fast they had all stood. All the set of eyes that peered at her caused her to clear her throat. She couldn’t blame them for being anxious. Princess Darla had been in the labor room for over eight hours. “How’s everything? How’s she? How’s…?” Lillie moved to the front, and the doctor smiled at her. “Everything is fine, your highness. Princess Darla has just delivered two beautiful and handsome children.” Silence hung in the air for three brief seconds. Yes. The doctor had counted. “Does this mean…?” Lillie asked with wide eyes. “Yes.” The tall lady replied. “Twins.” “Oh my God!” Lillie screamed, tears in her eyes as she watched everyone else rush into the room. They were supposed to have gone in one by one, but even the doctor knew better than to tr
Lillie’s POV *THREE WEEKS LATER* I stood outside Darla’s room, taking a deep breath before knocking softly. No response, but I knew she was in there. I could hear her crying from where I stood. Even her large twin doors had done nothing to mask the sound of her sorry. I turned mine into a ball in my throat and swallowed hard to push it down to my stomach. It couldn’t come out, not today. I reached for her door knob, opened the door and found her sitting on the edge of her bed, her face pale, her eyes swollen from crying. The black dress Darwin had gotten for her lay untouched in a rumpled mess beside her."Darla, you need to get ready," I said gently, stepping inside. "It’s time."She shook her head, her hands trembling as they gripped the sheets. "I can’t," she whispered. "If I get dressed… if I go downstairs… it means he’s really gone. That Logan is really gone, and I’ll never see him again. The love of my life, Lillie… the father of my child." Her voice cracked, her should
David’s POV Blood. All over the room. Dripping from every wound in my body. I didn’t need to see my reflection in the mirror to know I had been beaten up real good. Yet, when I saw it, a bitter chuckle forced its way out of my throat. I had managed to kill them all even in my state. The fuckers must have known they wouldn’t be able to stand a chance, hence why they had to poison me. In those last minutes of my life, the faces of my brothers flashed in my mind as I sat on my bed. My brothers, my sisters, my darling mother who had seen so much loss in her time. I never thought I’d see them again. I thought that, by the time they reached the hospital, I’d be long gone. When the rogues came, I was sure it was over. They had knives, weapons—I barely had the strength to lift my arms, but something inside me, something primal, wouldn’t let me give up. Not yet. Not before seeing my family one last time. If they could get to me, that is. There was no guarantee they had been able to make it
Darwin’s POV Heavy is the head that wears the crown, but there wasn’t a crown on my head. However, I knew I had stepped into David’s shoes the moment he was hospitalized. It suddenly made sense why he had been so stoic and protective of everyone. For the first time in a long time, I could feel what he felt. The weight of the world resting on my shoulders. My world, and that of Dark Moon at large. Even as I ripped Jace’s head from his neck, the reality of what had just happened sank deeper as I looked at him—the cousin who once laughed with us as children, now reduced to this: A lifeless head in my hands. Who would have thought I would be the one to end his life? Who would have thought that he’ll be the one to turn our lives around? To hurt my brothers, to betray the only family he could call his? His eyes, once filled with arrogance and ambition, were now vacant, staring up at the sky even in his death. But now, he would be unable to see any fucking thing. His life had ended.
Darwin: The battle was far more brutal than expected. Dead bodies lay across the ground, a mix of our own people, rogues and rebel soldiers. Daniel and I were yet to turn as we were preserving our energy to fight our common enemy. A wolf lunged at me and I caught it by its collar and snapped its next in one move. It dropped to the ground, slowly shifting back to its human form as it took its last breath. Another one came and I sank my claws into it, twisting and tearing its guts out so it lay on the floor in a disgusting pile. I only one had one intention as I made my way towards the Palace. And that was to make sure Lillie and my family members were safe. After I'd confirmed that they were, I would return here and find Jace. The hall was empty. Void of anyone, so I knew they had all been carted away to safety to the Palace's secret basement. I heard a familar sob and hurried towards the corner leading to the underground building. Lillie was crouched beside Logan w
Lillie's POV: Tonight was a wedding and the whole Palace was bright with the hustle and bustle of activities. A decorating team had been employed to decorate the area and it had gone on for about two days. Tonight, they were finishing up the rest of the decorations as guests began to arrive. I heard the Queen's voice from where I stood in Darla's room. She was yelling at the decorating team for their slow pace and we all laughed when she asked one of the ladies to get out of her sight. "It's not mother's wedding and yet, she yells like it's hers." Emilia said from where she stood, our beautiful flower girl, getting dressed by some of the maids. Darla chuckled from where she sat in front of her vanity table. "Mother can be a control freak at times. Don't tell her I said this, or she's going to serve my body to the guests." Emilia grinned in mischief and I instantly knew she was going to use emotional blackmail now that she had power over Darla. "Wh
Lillie's POV: Things were going smoothly. More than I expected. I banished the thoughts of something ruining the good time everyone was having and decided to, for once in my life, be happy that things were going the way I wanted. Queen Sofia was forced to interceed on Logan's behalf and the embargo of being a slave was taken off him. Darla made it a point of duty to remind her every waking moment of the day until the Queen decided to have rites held on Logan's behalf. And now, they were seen always having little cute moments around the palace. Logan and Darla were always found in each other's arm and I always saw the look on the Queen's face. Even after taking the banishment off Logan's head, she still wasn't in approval of their relationship. But as time went on, she became busy with other things and paid them no heed until I found her one day, smiling at Darla and Logan as they sat at the porch. Darla had her head on Logan's lap as he read her a book. It was such a
Lillie's POV: I paced from one end of the room to the other, trying to come up with words to say to my brother. Logan stood, head bowed low, at the other end of the room. I could tell he was feeling extremely bad, but not guilty. He finally stood tall, steeling his expression as he stared right at me. "What are you going to do? Judge me for following my heart? Call that a mistake also?" I honestly had nothing to say to him if I was being honest. I was just surprised that Logan and Darla were ever a thing. I wasn't angry or judgemental. I just didn't like how it had been hidden from me. Did Logan not trust me? Or hadn't I been a good enough elder sister for him to talk to? These were the thoughts that plagued my mind. I turned to him and sighed. "When did you start Dating Darla?" "We're not... dating," He replied. "Though we really like each other a lot." "So when did all these start?" He scoffed. "Do I have to tell you all the details?" "Yes. I have to know."
