Chapter 4: Arranged Marriage

'Arranged marriage this no.....I'm only 16 I'm too young for marriage I haven't even graduated or started my career I thought, I hug myself walking towards Richelle and Janelle's house, I sigh as I'm about to hit the doorbell but the door already opens
"Hey, how was your studying?" Richelle asks with a raised eyebrow but I'm not in a humorous mood
"I need to talk to you and Janelle" I replied she opens the door wider as I enter.
"Arranged marriage!" They both said in shock
We all sit cross-legged on the floor in their room, "I just...I haven't lived properly I don't want marriage, I would rather get back with that cheating scumbag than marriage" I say looking at them both
"But why?" Janelle asks
"My father said that we're going broke we couldn't even keep mum in rehab" I replied
They tap their chin "Okay we need to come up with a plan maybe we could help you out raise some sort of money..." Richelle said
I replied "It's useless I'm...I can't run from this I need to talk to them, talk some sense...maybe they could take out a loan but I need to try" I get up
"Would you mind driving me back?" I ask, she nods
When they drop me home before I walk in Janelle says "Remember we are here for you always"
I smile small "Back at you..." I replied as I walk in
I walk in closing the door my dad walking towards me pissed off, "Do you know what time it is?!" He said
I sighed "I'm sorry okay..." I replied
"I thought you were hurt you don't just take off we tried calling you" he sighed calming down
"My phone...I chucked it out in a moment of anger" I said
He shakes his head, as I walk into the lounge room, "Look If you want to still go to school we need to consider some things, there's a masquerade ball and I want you to go with us and meet this fine man but I need you to try here I don't like this any more than you do but my boss will fire me if I don't do this..." he said pinching the bridge of his nose frowning stressed out
"That's bullshit he can't fire you!" I exclaimed
"Well, he's threatened to do it..." He said
As he sits on the lounge beside my mum sighing, 'I can not believe I am going to do this I say in thought.
"Fine I will go to this masquerade ball but I'm not promising a marriage contract," I said to them both
"Now I'm going upstairs to be alone..." I said as I walked towards my room
I sit on my bed feeling like I want to talk to someone, and Jace comes to mind I feel so natural around him like I can tell him anything, I'd love to hear his view on this marriage.
I fall into a deep sleep, I hear my bedroom door shut I'm startled at the sound and get up in the middle of the night as I see something on my bedside table I turn my head as I open the box
"A new phone....dad" I sigh putting it down
'He can barely afford anything and he buys me a new phone I shake my head putting it back in the box, I turn over to my left side sighing, as I shut my eyes falling asleep.
I wake up with bags under my eyes from not sleeping, I head downstairs making myself a coffee as my dad looks at my face.
"You didn't get much sleep did you?" He asks
I raise my left brow "Is it that obvious?" I question
He sighs "I...I'm sorry I've put you in this position..." He said
I shake my head "If it wasn't for mum's gambling and drug addiction we wouldn't be here and you know it..." I say annoyed
"Hey, that's not fair..." My dad replied
"What it's the truth she put us in this pile of shit!" I exclaim pissed as I slam my coffee cup on the table it smashing with the cup contents inside my hand bleeding.
I throw my hands up getting ready for school as I bandage my hand up, exiting and heading to school.
"What happened to your hand?" Jace questioned
I shake my head moving around him tears filling my eyes thinking about this marriage contract, he turns me around gently as I look at anywhere else but him not wanting to show him my weakness, he cups my face in his hands gently.
"Roselle, what happened?" He asks
I wipe the tears away taking his hand and leading him to the park across from the school, I sit on the bench as he slowly sits down beside me.
"What happened?" He questions
I wipe my remaining tears with my sleeve "My father and mother have made stupid arrangements for me to get married to someone I don't know.." I sniffle trying to get my shit together looking at my hands in my lap he goes quiet.
"Why?" He questions
"My mum used my dad's money for her drug and gambling addiction and we're practically broke god why am I talking to you about this," I say laughing crying
'God I've gone mad' I thought
"Do you know who it is?" He questions
I shake my head "No all I know is that my dad's boss has made some sort of fucking deal and it involves me and my freedom" I exclaim he goes quiet as if In thought, he wraps an arm around my waist pulling me into his chest holding me.
"You'll be okay I promise," He said
I just wrapped my arms around his waist as he held me thinking god I wish I could just run. away from this from all of it.
