Christopher.

I rushed to Luis's room. He left the door open, so I did not need to knock and wait for him to answer.

I opened the door, and there she was on the bed. Tears of joy fell from my eyes, and I was grateful.

"I will sleep in her room," Luis said, ready to excuse himself.

He understood the situation too. There was no point pretending anymore. I was sure the entire pack would know by morning. Hiding and lying about my feelings for Willow was no longer necessary.

I looked at her where she lay.

"Where did you find her?" I asked Luis. He paused and took a while to answer me. Something about his countenance made me know I would not like the answer.

"The men on night duty do not know she is the one missing. So they arrested her and locked her in the cell before reporting to me," He said, and Jet began to growl. Luis raised his hands to calm me down.

"I have punished them for letting time pass before they alerted me. They claimed they thought I was asleep. Nonetheless, they w

  • Once In The Dust   35 I had told him a dangerous truth.

Willow, My body shook with fear. How could I have gotten carried away? I served the damn tea again. Things had happened differently, yet I served the tea. If it weren't for his words, I would have failed. I was still shaken. I was grateful for my nightmares of the day he was poisoned. If it weren't for those nightmares that fate refused to let me forget, I wouldn't have remembered his exact words. I looked at the broken mug, and the content spilt on the floor. I began to wonder who made the tea. "What is wrong?" Christopher asked me, but I couldn't speak because I was still shocked. Tears of fear and relief streamed down my cheeks at the same time. Raya was silent. I knew she was shaken too. "What did they do to you?" He asked, and I could not respond; instead, I tried to breathe. He made me sit on his couch and held me. "I guess there won't be tea for me anymore," He said, and I looked at him, grateful to the goddess that he was alive. In the past, he should have been lying in

  • Once In The Dust   36 I felt played

Christopher. What Willow told me was shocking. I wasn't surprised about King Aaron's intention towards me, but I was shocked about what Mark did. It all started to make sense. It was Mark that served our wine during the meeting. He was the one that made us pull over. Those wolves smelled familiar because they were from Aaron's Pack. It made sense why Mark never came to our aid until Garet found us. Above all, his miraculous recovery from Foxglove poisoning made great sense. There was no way a wolf could recover from foxglove without ingesting the antidote. The trust blinded me. I trusted Mark so much that I did not see anything wrong when Willow said he did not need her help and was already recovering. How could I be a fool? I was a fool, and Mark and Aida took advantage of my stupidity. Jet was raving mad, and he stood growling. I knew he was scaring Willow, and I had to wrestle him to take over. "Luis, arrest Mark and Aida and lock them up in a silver cell for questioning,"

  • Once In The Dust   37 Questions I knew only Willow could answer.

Christopher It was decided by the sitting council that I keep Aida's lands as payment for her treachery. She did not protest. Somehow, she knew she wouldn't be going home to her father because he could not look at her by the end of the hearing. The shock of Aida's revelation stayed with me. My drive back to Rain Pack was quiet and long. I did not know how to process matters. How were they managing? Whenever I had relations with Aida, Mark was bound to feel it. Why didn't he say something? I felt used and manipulated. "I can't believe it either," Luis said, and I could not respond. Even if I wanted to, the shock I felt in those moments made responding impossible. We arrived at the pack with Aida's car in tow. She walked past me in tears and fear. The pack members were looking at us. The entire settlement knew we went for a divorce proceeding, but they did not realise that Aida had cheated on me with Mark. I could not speak to her, but I had so much to tell my ex-best friend. I did

Willow. The divorce day had finally come, and I was relieved that Aida and Mark would be out of Christopher's Pack. Since the separation, Christopher had not hidden his feelings. We tried to be respectful and not display affection, but people knew. Christopher was a man of honour and wanted the divorce to pull through before he could publicly accept me. Raya was excited and eager, but I wasn't. I knew it would be for a short period, and I was torn. Raya insisted that we tell him the truth, but I was too afraid to scare him away and fail. "With Aida and Mark gone, we have won, Willow," Raya protested while I stared out the window of the clinic, but I doubted it was that easy, "This is beyond those two, Raya," I told her, and she growled. "You think I do not know that?" She asked me, and I sighed; of course, she knew. "I want to be with my mate before fate calls us back. Please," She pleaded, and my heart ached. "He will be broken when that happens," I told her, and she gro

Willow. I stood in the room with tears streaming down my eyes. The moment of truth had come. There was no way I could explain that incident. I was boxed in. I looked at him to memorise his features because I knew he might not want me here after I told him my truth. "Before I say anything, know that I have always loved you, Christopher, and I want you to know that I wished things had turned out differently between us," I said, and he frowned at me. "I was telling you the truth when I told you that I figured it out when you were about to drink the tea.." I began, and he frowned. I raised my hand to stop him from interrupting me. I exhaled and braced myself for whatever would happen after I spoke my truth. "Because that would be the second time," I said. "That was why I ran when I was arrested for trespassing. I did not want to relive my experience in the Rain pack again. I am living on borrowed time, Christopher. We have done this before. All of this. I came to your pack, and you t

  • Once In The Dust   40 Tonight I take what is mine

Christopher. I woke up in the middle of the night, and Willow was lying peacefully beside me. I looked at her delicate features and innocent face and wondered how I could have been mean to her in her past life. I was grateful to Fate for letting us do this again. It was just sad that it was for a short period, but I will take whatever I get. Everything she said and did now made sense. It must have been an enormous burden to walk around knowing everything but unable to speak about it. I remembered how quickly she rejected me and how she never looked at me. Here I was, thinking she didn't want me. Everything she did was to save my life. I felt unworthy of that level of love. I gently caressed her face and bent to kiss her lips. I wished Fate would give us more time to be together and have children before taking her from me, but I will take what I can get. I screwed up the first time. I won't do it again. Come morning, I will make the announcement and tell the pack members why

  • Once In The Dust   41 when my time is up

Willow Christopher laid me on the bed, and I became nervous. I had died a virgin in my past life, but that wouldn't be the case now. I was happy but sad at the same time. I pushed aside my sadness and chose to enjoy the moment. Seven months was too short for me to spend it feeling miserable. He gently began to undress me, and soon, I was wearing nothing but my nude-coloured, lacy underwear. "Beautiful," He said, taking off his clothes. I had seen him shirtless countless times, but now he was mine. I watched his muscles flex as he undressed. I wanted to run my fingers through his perfectly sculpted body, but I waited for him to come to me. He leaned over me, filling my senses with his scent and driving me and my wolf crazy. "Christopher," I moaned. My body anticipated and wanted what he was about to give me. "I do not want you to hold back tonight." He said and crashed his lips on mine. His tongue probed for access, and I gave it and allowed myself to drown in the euphoria of

  • Once In The Dust   42 All I could do was hug him and weep.

Willow We returned to the master's room in the pack house, and I remembered the times I would clean the place. The day Aida called me to the room to massage her feet and said a lot of nasty things to me. I honestly could not feel sorry for the bitch, but there was no point rubbing it in. I won. Christopher and I settled in easily, and everything came naturally to us. We spent a week mostly indoors. Christopher would go to the office to attend to some documents while I attended to stuff in the clinic briefly. Although Christopher did not want me to take up luna's duties because it would be stressful and it would mean we would spend less time together, I still managed to do some. It was time for me to rearrange the servants. Some of them needed promotion, while others needed to be reassigned. Just like Aida, it was my duty to get acquainted with them and determine if they were serving in the right place. Leeana was now my assistant, so she organised the meeting. People were un

  • Once In The Dust   81  And Our Dreams Came True

WillowMy parents got married three days after we arrived at the palace. My father did not want to waste time anymore, and my mother was surprised that she was speechless by all that had happened. She did not talk much about it; I knew it was because she did not know where to start, but our actions let her know we weren't lying. My uncle Devin attended their wedding along with the two kings and All the alphas in our world. Alpha Devin remembered all that transpired because he was a general. He was happy that his sister was alive this time around. All our devotion, loyalty and respect for Selene increased because she restored all we had lost and blessed us immensely for our faithfulness and service. This was better than anything Apate would have given us had we helped the evil thing to win. We were grateful. We left the Lycan Kingdom a week later to prepare for our wedding, which would take place in the Lycan kingdom in a week. We had to return to Rain pack to finalise the divor

  • Once In The Dust   80 A reunion

Willow.Christopher made love to me sweetly. There was no urgency in his passion, and he took his time. I loved it. Not having a clock over my head was relieving, and I was grateful. When Christopher told me what Selene told him about the gift she had given us, my heart soared. She had finally come through for all of us. Learning that the traitors did not return made me feel rewarded and happy. When I heard Lucien and all the traitors had been wiped away from history. It was as if they never existed, and all I could say was thank you and hoped she heard me.I woke up naked in Christopher's arms. I was a virgin again, so I was sore between my legs, but the pleasure was worth it. Everything we did to each other was worth it, and I could not wait to do everything with him. We had dinner in the room and made love some more.We stayed all day indoors until the next day.Having breakfast with the entire pack was awkward, especially when I had to sit at the high table as their Luna and

  • Once In The Dust   79 Into My Arms

ChristopherI watched Willow advance towards Irvin, and I was afraid of what she planned to do. She had said goodbye and had blocked me out of her mind. I was tired, but I began to fight like a rabid dog. My mate was walking to her death, and there was nothing I could do about it. Please, Selene. Don't let this be it. We have given everything; please do not let this be it," I said.My vision was a blur, but I could see what Willow was doing even though tears were streaming down my face. I noticed that the men had stopped fighting us and were only trying to block us from getting to Willow. I watched King Aaron openly call after her; fear was evident in his voice, but she wasn't listening anymore. Willow went to her knees, and Irvin gave her his hand to kiss. I did not know what she was doing, but it did not seem like it was part of our plan. She touched and kissed his hand, and then I felt the surge. Willow collapsed lifelessly on the ground, and Irvin held his head, screaming

  • Once In The Dust   78 Awake

Willow I opened my eyes as if I had been in a deep sleep. My vision was blurry, and I wondered if I was being judged or had been cast back into the underworld. There was something strange about my environment. It was warm and familiar. Though blurry, there was sunlight, and there was fresh air. I could smell waffles with strawberries, just like the type my mother used to make for breakfast in our cottage in Brent woods. Tears welled up in my eyes. Thinking my soul must be wandering through the vast sea of memories. What a way to live my eternal life."Raya," I called on my wolf."Willow," she replied, and I was glad we were still together. I wanted to laugh, and I wanted to cry at the same time. Where was Christopher? Was he fine? Did he forgive my sacrifice? Did it work, and were they living a normal life? I had so many questions, but I doubted this heaven would bring me answers. "Willow, get up; we have herbs to pick this morning," I heard my mother's voice, and I blinked a f

  • Once In The Dust   77 The Death of Champions

WillowI could not believe that Lucien had betrayed us. Never in my wildest dreams would I have believed that Lucien would do this to us. He had betrayed us and killed my father. This was a lesson learned a bit too late. I felt the cord connecting me to my father break, and I knew he was no longer with us. Raya told me to focus, but how could I when my heart was broken. I was mourning my father. Tears streamed down my cheeks even though I tried to hold them. Miles fought beside me, and I wondered how his king could be so stupid. I could feel Miles' devotion; he was ready to die beside me.We slashed and cut through the attackers, a mix of the zombies and our treacherous people, and we moved swiftly. I knew Mark and Aida were no more, and I wondered who would fall next."We are all coming towards you so Irvin can come towards you. He seems to be avoiding you," Christopher said, and I did not need to guess why. Irvin was representing Apate, while I was representing Selene. He did

  • Once In The Dust   76 At War

Christopher It happened suddenly. We were asleep when Mark alerted me that we were under attack. My stomach churned because the time was upon us. The battle Willow told me about was finally here. The struggle for survival and freedom. Our kind would be extinct if we lost this battle, but her vision still showed a total wipeout. As worried as I was, there was no escaping it anymore. They were here, and they were ready. I planned to fight to survive to spend the rest of Willow's time in peace. Still, If I lost my life in the process, I was willing to take out as many people as possible for the survival of my kind. As the general of this war, it was my duty to ensure we won. Willow was awake, and I could see she knew from her eyes. Words did not need to be spoken between us. We both knew it was time. She kissed me and reached for her ultraviolet blade. Her light had a limit, and we knew it limited her strength; it would have to be her last resort because her life force was use

  • Once In The Dust   75 Move To Neeami

WillowTwo months and two weeks passed from the meeting with the alphas in Rain pack. Our training was rigorous, and I had moved to stock more provisions in the shelters so our people would have provisions if the war lasted longer than it should. The alphas that opted to converse with Irvin had nothing good to say. Some of their scouts found their location, but they were never able to return so we could trace and figure it out. Alfredo received a reply from Irvin, stating that he should join up or die. It meant we were back to the original solution that I had proffered from the onset. Our training was rigorous, and a new type of panic overcame me as time drew nearer. I was having serious issues accepting that my time was almost up. I also kept seeing our doom and the death of many people, which was not good. According to my visions, there was a complete wipeout, and I was trying to figure out how best to avoid it. Ultraviolet ammunition was prepared. It came in the form of larg

  • Once In The Dust   74 Conflicts and plans

Willow Rain pack was the way we left it. Mark and Garnett did a good job, and Luis seemed to have eased in when he returned. The people were happy to see us and confessed that no one had dared to attack them since the last attack. We had sent a strong message with that last attack, so I knew it would be unwise for Irvin to send more of his people to die. While Christopher handled the military and engineering section, I dealt with the shelter with the help of Aida. As much as I hated working with her, I had to let it be. Seeing that Apate tried to use my pain to make me cross over made me force myself to get along with Aida. She knew how to handle Luna matters, so I had to allow her to help me put the shelter together. There was a lot of awkwardness between us, but we tried to make it work. After one week, the shelters were finally in the best shape, and we asked the rest of the civilians living above ground to move there. I couldn't tell if my pack was infiltrated, but I ju

  • Once In The Dust   73 Preparations and Implementation

Willow I woke up, and the room was foggy. Everything that happened in the woods returned to me, and I was afraid. I would have turned my back on everything I was fighting for if Raya had not come through. Apate spoke my truth and voiced out my pains and fears. The offer was tempting. I would do anything to live beyond a year. To carry my children and to raise them. To grow old with Christopher and to spend more time with my father. I would do anything for it. I was paying a very steep price which was my life. I looked to my left, and Christopher was sitting on a chair looking at me. He was wearing joggers, and I looked at my body. They had clothed me in a gown. I was a bit confused because we were both down. I wondered how come he recovered faster than me. "Darling," he said to me with worry in his eyes, and I gently sat up in bed. "How long was I out?" I asked him. " A day," he said, and I touched my tummy, worried about my injections. "Dr Melvin attended to you," he sai
