Valencia.

I can’t get it out of my head.

What I saw…it cannot be. Please, don’t let it be so!

Surely, I’m overthinking this. There is no way….

But every time I even blink, I see the image of Callista and Theon together, strolling through the garden, smiling at each other, and talking. I try to tell myself that it's probably nothing. She just came back from the Guild, and he was asking her about her experiences. She did have quite a harrowing time. Also, he'd known her for quite a while.

But I can't shake it off. When I stared at them as they strolled, I felt something wrong in my gut. And my gut I never wrong!

As I step through the hallways in the castle, my mind runs back to yesterday. As soon as Theon saw her appear, he pushed me away. He had done it before too, but this time, he'd done it when he saw her.

And she'd looked shocked. And hurt. Why did she look hurt?

In my room, I throw my sword on my bed and sit down next to it, dragging my fingers through my hair. What did it mean? W

Callista."Hey, Callista!" Haden's voice comes, and I see the man himself approaching me, carrying a heavy looking cardboard box. "What are you up to?""Oh, nothing," I comment, falling into a lazy walk beside him. "I'm just going to my room to get something."I'd taken my breakfast trays back to the kitchen so as not to bother the maids, and in my haste, I'd forgotten my ring. I only noticed that after I'd opened the door to go into the kitchen. It felt wrong not to have my ring on me. The crystal piece of jewelry had grown on me in such a short time. I feel almost naked when I don’t wear it."Oh, good, I'm going the same way. I need to deliver these to the guards near Elias's room.""How is Elias, by the way?" I ask and immediately regret it when Haden sighs sadly."He gets worse by the day," he says. "He's gotten to the point that he bites his own hide just to release the bloodlust he feels, and we don't have a way to treat his wounds. It sucks, to watch your friend turn to that. I

Callista.Staring at the crash just inches away from me, I stand with shaking legs. I can't believe it.I cannot believe that happened. If I hadn't been pushed out of the way by Haden just in time, I would've been greatly injured, or worse, dead.Next to me, Haden groans, and my attention immediately snaps to him."Haden!" I exclaim as I hold him by his arms and try to support him to stand up. "Are you alright?! Oh, Goddess, you’re bleeding so much!""Just scratched from the glass," he winces, bending on his waist so as not to make the shards that are under the skin of his back go even deeper. "What the actual hell just happened? I just heard a clink, and my instincts told me to move as soon as possible.""The chandelier came down on us," I whisper, supporting his body so as not to injure him further."Miss Leander! Gamma!" The castle staff: maids, butlers, and guards, come running, shock and worry marring their faces. They all gasp upon seeing the wreck of a chandelier, and the maid

Callista. We watch as they cart a grumbling Haden away. The castle staff starts to clean up the mess of the crash on Theon's instruction, and I tear my eyes from a receding Haden to the crash site. The peculiarity of the chain doesn't sit right with me, which is the main fact that leads me to think that this wasn't a mere accident."Theon, I’ve got a question.""Yeah?" He comes towards me from the poor shocked butlers he was yelling at. "Are you okay? Does your arm hurt?"I nearly smile at his concern but shake my head. "No, I'm fine. I want to ask you something. How is the chandelier connected to the ceiling?""Well, you see that hook over there?" he points to the big hook on the ceiling. "The chain is wound around it a couple of times, and then there's another post in the floor nearest to the chandelier and the chain is wound around it and locked with a padlock to keep it tight and steady.""Can you take me to that post?"We walk up the staircase in the corner of the sitting room t

Callista. The guard goes to work immediately, and in no time, he has all the videos from an hour ago on a screen.“Start from the most recent,” Theon says.“Yes, Alpha.”We wait with bated breath as the video starts to play."Alan, pause the video." Theon orders after a moment, voice low but firm. I’ve been on the receiving end of that voice many times before, when I was the last person Theon wanted to lay his eyes on. That tone of voice never meant anything good.“What is it, Alpha?” Alan peers at the video."Why can't I see a post? There must be a post in the footage!"We look closely at the grainy footage, and true enough, there isn't a single post to be seen. Alan plays the entire clip once more, and throughout, we can only see the balcony railing."I think the post is situated in a blind spot, Alpha," Alan replies, "We focus more on the areas that people normally move around.""Isn't there anything we can use to watch the activity around the post?" I ask."Well, I can try to find

Callista."I won’t lie, Callista, but this won’t do your reputation any favors," Haden ribs me as we carry boxes from my room.It is the morning, two days after the accident, and I’ve already finished with my swords practice. Valencia goes easy on me and lets me off early due to the 'accident', which I was still bummed about.I’ve got two hours before class, so I thought that I might as well use the time to pack up my things to move. After the incident, the very thought of being alone in the tower with only a bunch of guards and a manic wolf was not soothing. I barely slept the last two nights because the smallest sound woke me up. Elias’s howls, which I'd gotten used to were suddenly scary to me once again. So, when I woke up this morning, I knew my time in the tower was done. I had to take Theon up in his offer.I really didn't expect Theon to make the offer to move in next to him, and when he did, I was ecstatic with joy. It felt like a significant step in our relationship.I mean,

Callista.Cautiously, I approach the bag. There had been far too many weird things happening lately that my paranoia acts on overdrive, and I won’t be taking chances with something so suspicious. As I get close, I nice, buttery scent wafting from it, and marginally relax. Pinned to the bag there is a note."Hey, I'm sorry I couldn't help you with the move. Consider these compensations until I get back :)"The note is signed by Theon.I smile. I've never seen his handwriting before, and I'm awed at how neat it looks.I open the brown paper bag to find three muffins inside. I love muffins, and my heart warms because Theon managed to find that out! They are warm, fresh from the oven, and I don’t hesitate before taking a bite. That's when I feel excruciating pain in my mouth, along with the taste of blood. As soon as I taste blood, I spit the bite of the muffin to the ground.A bloody glob smears the plush rug, and for a brief moment, I feel pity for whoever will clean the thing. That’s

We sit on either end of my bed, and the doors are locked, and the curtains drawn. Two guards are placed outside the door, because Theon was not going to take any chances. Theon’s still sweaty from running all the way from the university to the castle. I cannot help but feel relieved knowing he was taking this so seriously."I gathered that," I say in a meek tone, feeling weary to my very soul from it all. "There's no way I would've swalLeanderd that big of a glass shard.""And this handwriting is so different from mine," he taps the note. "I don't write this clearly. Him a glass of whiskey, and me a glass of ginger ale. "Because at this point, that's the only explanation I have for this whole thing. How can anyone be clever enough to erase their traces so well?”As I'd thought, we'd found nothing. The camera hadn't caught a single suspicious activity, not even someone loitering next to my door. There were the usual appearances of me and Haden, Valencia, and Kellin, the maids, butlers, and guards. And all of them went on in their own businesses."I don't know," Theon sighs. "At this point, maybe you should. Maybe we got the damned invisible man haunting the halls of the castle.""Or a ghost," I suggest. "Can ghosts hold things though? I've always believed their translucent hands sort of went through physical stuff. Does this castle have ghosts, Theon?"

Theon“Can't feel mate! Can’t feel our mate”As I run through the trees of the Rexellen pack forest, my wolf screams from inside my head. He paces around the chamber in my mind that he occupies, rightfully agitated.“Mate is absent! Mate is gone!”I come to a stop at that, barely holding myself from toppling over and hitting a tree with my speed.“How?!” I growl, feeling my blood rushing through my body like mercury. “How can you not feel her?”“Mate is gone!” my wolf whines as if he's in pain. “Can't feel mate!”I turned to my wolf form as soon as the newly turned rogues confirmed that Callista had indeed chased after Valencia. I had to find her before she caught up with her because only the Goddess knew what that lunatic would do to my mate now after her plan to take over the Rexellen pack had failed. And Callista didn't even have any weapon with her. What was she thinking? She was never this impulsive! She could've at least taken a sword with her, but no! She didn't even have her

Callista“Cut the crap, Valencia,” I say, tired of her tricks. For a second, she had me going. Who did she think I was, a naive child? What was she playing at? Did she seriously think I would believe such a stupidly poor attempt? “Either you’ve gone mad, or you think I’m more naïve than I am. I know you're lying. You're surrounded and you can't escape, so you think you can come up with something ridiculous as that to get out?”She was not surrounded and she could escape, but that’s something she didn’t need to know right now.Valencia lets out that manic cackle again. “I knew you'd say that,” she says in between cackles. “You think the real Valencia would say something like I just did to escape? She'd rather fight you to death.”I brace myself to run, just in case. I can't make out what's exactly happening, but I know that it's bad. I should've never come here without any support. My impulsiveness got the best of me, and now I was stuck in the middle of the forest with this lunatic.

TheonI ran outside the pack, calling out from the top of my voice, “Callista!”Outside, the battle was almost over. The hostile pack members surrendered as soon as they felt their Alpha die, and the Rexellen pack guards and members worked together to apprehend them. Now they stand in lines with their heads bowed, standing side by side with one another as my own guards cuffed their hands. But unlike them, we didn't use silver-rimmed cuffs because we weren't savages even to our enemies. Several Rexellen pack members and guards turn to me as soon as they hear me bellow my mate's name, their expressions puzzled. Kellin comes right up behind me.“Theon, calm down!” he huffs. “The people are on the edge right now; the littlest thing can set them off. Don't make them panic again!”I blush at my own idiocy.“Right,” I give him a curt nod and turn to Ophelia. “Where did you leave her?”“By a clothing boutique near the town square,” Ophelia replies, looking around. Then she winces. “We had to

CallistaMy heart beats fast in my chest as I pursue Valencia through the snow-laden forest. The tall trees loom around me, stripped off their leaves unless they are evergreens. I'd lost sight of Valencia's distinguishable red hair for a while, but the prints of her footsteps are still clearly visible on the snow. I don't know if I should be following her right now. Maybe I should've stayed with the wolves and taken them to Theon before going after Valencia. I had to tell him about what happened and see if he was okay after being dragged into the castle with Ophelia’s vines. But if I let Valencia escape the Rexellen pack lands, Goddess only knows if we would be able to find her again. She'd been suspiciously elusive before. She would definitely use the same tactics to hide again. As I run through the forest, I wonder if I had done the right thing leaving without even a weapon in my hand. Valencia had her sword and her wolf with her. TheonAs soon as I tell Haden the news of Elias's death after I find him in the hallways of the castle looking for us, his face pales and his eyes widen. Then, without a word, he runs in the direction of the hospital. "He's going to be devastated," Kellin shakes his head, voice guttural and low from sorrow. Then, he glances at me. "Listen, Theon. I know that Dr. Haeger said that you need to step up as the Alpha now, but your brother just died, and you're only a wolf. If you need some minutes alone-""No, Kellin," I reply. "Thank you. But I need to sort this out. After that, I can mourn."I lower my voice. "Elias is finally at peace now. You were right before. He's released now. As much as I can't imagine waking up tomorrow without him, I know that he is in a better place."Kellin stares at me and nods. "He definitely is. We have to hold the funeral as soon as possible to ensure that.""Yeah. So, let's get to work. Round up the hostiles, throw them in the dungeons, secure the perimete

TheonI scream until I feel the taste of blood in the back of my throat. There’s blood already on my tongue, the blood of the enemy that felled my brother, but this blood is my own.I scream until the foundations of the very castle vibrate beneath my feet, as if we’re in yet another accursed earthquake that started this all, but no, that’s just my body vibrating with the maelstrom of emotions rushing through it.I scream, cradling my brother's dead body to my chest, shaking him, asking him to wake up just one more time, dammit, to open his eyes and look at me because he can't leave, not after everything, not after us winning back our pack. How is this possible? How can he die like this?He was just alive a minute ago. He was breathing minutes ago!I ask- beg people for help. Anyone to come and revive him. But it's useless because there isn't anything anyone can do. There’s no magic in this world that can bring back a dead werewolf, not without turning him into a zombie or a thrall. Th

TheonSomeone moves in front of me, blocking the incoming wolf. It's a man who is taller than I am, but also very skinny. My eyesight is too blurry to register properly.Farris’ jaws clamp around his human neck, hard. A scream, a guttural, painful scream echoes through the great hall, and I…I recognize that scream. Suddenly, my vision clears as panic runs through my entire being. I know that voice. That voice belongs to Elias!Elias falls in front of me with Farris still attached to his neck, hitting the ground with a thump. Blood spurts out from his neck, splattering all around us. Seeing that the target he attacked wasn't his intended one, Farris walks away, confusion marring his features. Elias writhes on the floor, trying to breathe. Half of his throat is gone. I don't know what takes over me as I witness the sight of my brother on the floor, fighting for his life as his blood bled out of him at a catastrophic rate. All the pain I feel is overcome by my rage, and I turn to Fa

TheonOnly a few minutes pass but that is enough for us to draw enough blood from each other to make the floor wet and slippery. My body hurts from all the tears and bites on it. I don't have instant healing as Callista does, so my wounds stay open for a long time with my normal werewolf healing. Farris is no better. He limps because of a rather powerful bite I delivered on his front leg. His teeth drip blood, and so does mine.I don't think I will ever forget the taste of blood in my mouth again. I get up from the floor, swallowing the copper taste in my mouth. My body protests, especially my legs. But I can't quit. He is so strong though. The strength of the Alpha King is no joke. But I have got to endure. I must defeat him. I must win. I need to get my pack back. With a growl, I collect all my strength yet again and pounce on him. As we grabble to bite and claw each other, distantly I wonder how Callista is doing. She hadn't made her way into the great hall yet, only Kellin is
