CHAPTER 20

EVOLET

We sat together under a tree which was situated away from the pack square. Cadell, who sat right next to me in the cold night, covered me up with his leather jacket, without uttering a word.

All I could do was gaze at him and let out a thank you, taking hold of the helm of the jacket to shield myself properly.

“Don’t mention it,” I heard him respond in a deep low voice, taking his attention out to nothing, while sitting comfortably against the tree.

I took my eyes off him, allowing silence to creep in between us. And that increased the guilt I’ve been harboring ever since he left.

I turned to the side to look at Cadell, who kept looking into the dark night. I felt like saying something, but I couldn’t.

Instead, I looked away then back at his direction again. I repeated this for three times until… “Do you want to say something?” Cadell asked, finally looking at me.

“Um…I…” I stammered, having no words.
