Anastasia's POV.“You clumsy low-life!” A growl reverberated through the corridors of the halls. I fought to stand up as my breath hitched in my chest. I was inhaling more air than I was exhaling. There were two figures standing before me; one I recognized as the Alpha from earlier and the other...he must be the Beta, they are always by the Alpha's side. There was also a guard present, though I was sure it was unnecessary for them.“Are you blind?” The same voice barked as the beta advanced towards me pugnaciously.I took weak steps back as my heartbeat increased and adrenaline rushed through my veins, forcing a glob of saliva down my dried up throat. The Alpha's arm, though, remained in his path, preventing him from advancing towards me and potentially eliminating me on the spot.“She must be punished, Alpha!” The Beta's gruff voice muttered. The Alpha kept his stern gaze on me. I couldn't tell if he was going to just let me go or go ahead with what his beta suggested.“Forgive me…Al
Anastasia's POV. “I'm sorry, please grandfather!” I yelled at the top of my lungs, but my grandfather ignored my pleas as he continued to strike me. I huddled in a corner of the room, enduring the harsh blows from my abusive grandfather.”“You bastard child, you're so useless!” He barked as his voice dripped with contempt. He had no remorse for beating a seven year old girl like this. No, there was only hatred in his heart. I couldn't even sob anymore, the tears had dried up from my eyes. I just laid here, motionless and waiting for him to be finished… … I sat up, gasping for air, allowing the rush of air to fill my lungs. Frantically, my gaze darted around as I struggled to control my panting breaths. “It's okay, lay still.” A soothing voice said, making me jerk around to see a woman next me. I slowly became calm on sight of her, my breath slowly taking its normal pace. “What happened?” I asked, confused at how I was currently in the infirmary . “You were brought in by the Alph
Alpha Mathias’ POV. I ran my hand through my silky hair for the umpteenth time. Pacing around my chamber restlessly as thoughts of what might have happened to her disturbed me. Why was I suddenly so concerned about a random new maid? I didn't know. Do I want her protected? Absolutely. I couldn't explain the pulling effect that attracted me to her. Ever since Luxina had brought her to deliver that box, she had been occupying my mind. And now, I was so worried about her. “What the hell happened to her?” I asked myself as I sat in my study. Those servants have begun to go around trying to kill newcomers. I blame myself for making the payment system of the servants the way it is. I remembered how I had become greatly restless throughout the night. There has been no reason for me to have sleepless nights, not until yesterday. I just couldn't sleep and decided to take a stroll round the castle. Only for me to smell the scent of a werewolf in the bushy area at the back of the castle. My
Mathias’ POV “Get her up!” I boomed but I was the one who bent and carried her up. I ignored the shocking gasps that echoed in the hall and made my way towards the infirmary . Placing down on a mat, I called for a healer. I watched anxiously as they checked her. “What happened to her?” I demanded with tension in my tone. The healers ignored, busy still examining the maid. I gathered my thoughts and stood straight. I immediately became aware of my environment; this place was filled with my servants. And the way I was acting over a maid was questionable. Not wanting to be the subject of gossip if I already wasn't, I decided I would go. “You will come and tell me what exactly is up with her once you're done.” I whispered to the healer that came to my chambers earlier today. I returned to my bedroom. I knew the servants were stealing glances at me when I passed but they dared not stare right into my eyes. Their heads would be on spikes if they let me see them. I smashed a glass cup
Anastasia's POV.“How do you feel now?” Ginny asked me while placing her hand on my forehead to check my temperature.I nodded, “A bit dizzy but better.” I answered. We were both in the infirmary and Ginny was standing next to my mat, holding a bucket. It was apparent that she was coming from her chores and didn't have much time to spend.“You said he carried me by himself?” I asked, still unable to believe that the Alpha would care for a servant like that.Ginny nodded, “Everyone saw it, want to know what rumours are being spread now?” She asked, leaning closer.Curiosity took the better of me and I nod anxiously. “They say the Alpha's poking you.” She said in a hushed tone and covered her mouth while she muffled a laugh. It took a few seconds for her words to register in my mind. I stared at her with widened eyes. “What!” I half yelled.“Shhh!” Ginny cautioned while glancing around.“Why would they think that?” I asked even though I knew she had no answer to that.“Don't be surpri
Anastasia's POV.I glared at the trio. If they were going to cause trouble with me again, I was simply ready to bolt. I could easily turn back to where I was coming from.“You better stop seeing the Alpha to gain favours!” The redhead said in a grave tone.I eyed her with disdain, “I’m not seeing the Alpha!” I said in a low growl but they are all but scared. Our eyes locked in a glaring combat. The tension in the air was rising. I caught the redhead’s hand fisting while the fat one was dipping her hand into her apron.Just then, several maids walked through the corridor that we were in. It seemed they were going to a singular place as they just kept coming through.I used this chance and walked among the other maids. The medium sized one grabbed my fist, glaring down at me. “Don't think you're free in this castle. You better watch your back.” She said threateningly before throwing my hand.I said nothing as I returned to the infirmary.A pungent spicy smell greeted me as soon as I ste
Anastasia's POV. I was made to fight the urge to run through the hallway, up the stairs to the Alpha's chambers. The stares were just too much! I thought my stay at the infirmary would make their curiosity of me die down but right now, it only seemed to increase it. I heaved a sigh of relief once I walked out of the hallway towards the stairs. The amount of servants had reduced significantly and I quickly ascended the stairs. My heart raced as I got nearer and nearer to the Alpha's chambers. What did he want to see me for? I know I haven't gotten a chance to thank him for his help and support for me but I wanted that to be on my terms and not for me being called unexpectedly. I fiddled with my fingers as I stood a few feet away from his door, glancing at the bulky High guard that stood at the entrance of the room. Gaining some courage, I moved towards the guard. “The Alpha called for me.” I told him. He didn't respond, instead, his eyes wandered before him and I knew he was
Anastasia's POV.Murmurs filled my ears as consciousness slowly greeted me. I groaned as my eyes parted slowly.“Does she always have to faint?”“I'm just as confused as you are, friend.”“And I thought they said she was a werewolf?”“Probably just a weakling omega. Heard those ones are very useless and even weaker than humans.”A round of laughter was what made my eyes snap open fully. I stood up immediately. My gaze landed on the group of older healers sitting around a table just a few feets away from me. They all stared at me, silent like they had seen a ghost.I ignored them, turning my attention to what brought me to this position. Oh, I remember!Mama Buella! I slid off the mat, ignoring the pain that shut through the back of my head. I headed for the place I knew was where Mama Buella’s mat always is. But upon reaching there, there was only a mat, no old ill lady. Sadness struck me from within.I headed for the healers’ quarters in the infirmary; where the healers have their ow
