4. Rogue

Myra

My legs buckled as I felt a sharp pain lance through my body. ‘The bond….it’s breaking,’ Akira said feebly. I knew my pack saw me as a  burden, but to this extent? I didn’t know. That they would abandon me to die, I couldn’t fathom. In the 17 years of my life, I have never heard anything so cruel.

I suspected that this might be due to the problem in negotiations with the blood-suckers. I clenched my fists as tears rolled down my cheeks. I wanted to blame them for everything, for killing my parents and now making me a rogue. But at the back of my mind, I knew it wasn’t their fault. It was my pack who are too hard-hearted to even care for one of their own.

The silence in the vacant room was taunting. How come I slept through all this? I couldn’t help but wonder. Then I realised that Jeanette had given me a piece of steak, and I was too happy to question her action or her expression. She had looked sad and had almost hesitated to give me the plate filled with the delicacies. Something must have been mixed in the food. So it wasn’t like they had forgotten me, but had deliberately abandoned me.

I swallowed the thick lump that had formed in my throat. My ears were ringing as I climbed up the stairs. I needed to leave, otherwise, those vampires would definitely come back and then I would be nothing but dead meat. My fingers trembled as I stuffed my stuff in a small frayed duffle bag. My vision blurred from time to time and a dull headache had set in. I didn’t know where I would go, but I needed to leave. I sniffled as I glanced at the room that had been my safe haven for so long.

I took in a shaky breath before exiting from the back door, just in case someone was in the front of our...the packhouse. ‘What now, Aki?’ I asked my wolf helplessly, as the distance between me and the deserted packhouse widened. ‘Scour the forest,’ she replied after some time. I hummed feebly and started my journey. At least in my wolf form, I can catch prey. These woods were common ground, but in a week or two, they’ll know that a rogue is roaring in the forests, then what?

The silence of the woods, occasionally broken by the sudden crunching of dried leaves and hoots of birds, startled me. Despite being a werewolf, I was easily scared by sudden noises. I exhaled a shallow breath as I looked for a place that would serve as my temporary housing.

“Sir, they have evacuated the house. No one is there,” Aaron reported, sounding angry. I nodded. “Good, take some men and clean up the place,” I replied without taking my eyes off the document I was going through. I didn’t want to show my relief. I simultaneously felt annoyed as well. Why should I care for what happened to that mutt?

“But..” Aaron began. I glanced up, waiting for him to continue.

“There was a lingering scent, the scent was fresh. So I think that some of them might be still around,” he said thoughtfully. I raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”

Aaron replied, “It was an omega scent, I am sure of that. Now that I think of it…” He took a seat on the nearby couch, eyebrows furrowed in concentration. “I think there was only that scent.” I clenched my jaw, stopping myself from trying to show any curiosity. Did she not escape?

“Did you scour the forest?” I asked, hoping that I hadn’t given away anything. Aaron cocked his head. “No? Should I ask the…”

“No need. I will look into it,” I interrupted, standing up. “You? No offence but you don’t need to take the trouble to find an omega,” he said in disbelief. I did not say anything because I wasn’t obligated to explain my actions to my subordinate.

Dusk painted the sky orange and red. I stepped into the woods, and her scent immediately overwhelmed my senses. Did she not leave with her pack? I followed her scent trail, walking stealthily. Soon I spotted her or rather her wolf, sitting under one of the broader trees and licking her paws. From a distance, I kept looking at her from where I stood, a safe distance away.

Her wolf was small, almost like a dog but a little bigger than a regular one. Her grey fur was splattered with mud and twigs as if she had wrestled on the ground with something. My eyes honed on her left paw and it was then I realized that she was licking a wound. I frowned.

Was she an idiot? Did she not catch up with her pack? I couldn’t help but think again. My absent-mindedness must have given away my presence because her head snapped up, her ears pricked and her eyes turned alert. “It’s me,” I said, not wanting her to stand up and attack with whatever energy she had left. Her gaze finally settled on me. Her eyes Her gaze remained alert, but the sharpness in them dimmed slightly. Then she proceeded to continue her task at hand without even bothering to spare another glance at me.

I was glad that I wasn’t in my human form. Otherwise, I would have hurled insults at him. Why must he appear when I am at my weakest? Akira was the more tolerant one between the two of us. She never questioned my decision, and I never questioned hers. While I knew she was a little dismayed by my decision to reject our mate, she didn’t become angry at my decision.

I had received this injury while hunting for a rabbit. I am not used to hunting and today I learned how hard it is to survive. Being an omega, I am not strong enough. I continued licking my wound when I sensed him approaching closer. I stiffened.

“So you were an idiot enough to not go with the pack?” he taunted. I raised my head and glared at him. Why did he care? No, he didn’t. He had just come here to taunt me. I limped towards the back of the tree, the broad bark providing enough privacy for me to change. I had put my backpack in a hollowed part of this tree.

“Why are you here?” I asked when as I stepped from behind the tree. My leg was still healing, but I forced myself to stay standing. He crossed his arms, a smirk locking on his lips. “My subordinate informed me that a wolf was still here, so I came here to check which stupid dog was still lingering in the woods.”

I pursed my lips but did not answer him. His smirk riled me up. “I will leave in a few days. Don’t worry. I am just going to figure out…”

“Why didn’t you leave?” he interrupted me. I glowered at him. His smirk had slipped off his face, his gaze was keen and piercing. I averted my gaze and let the silence speak for me.

I inhaled sharply as the realisation dawned upon me. Did she...by chance…? I always thought that wolves were more protective of their own. To think they could be cold and cruel like some of us amazed me. “They left you, didn’t they?” The words came out in a rush, a soft murmur but the way she flinched made it clear that she had heard me. The flinch also cleared my doubt and made something roil in my dead, unbeating heart.

She still didn’t reply, just steadfastly avoided my gaze. So much for thinking that she had run away with her pack. I let out a sigh, a hollow imitation of those who breathed.

“So what now? Going to survive with those poor hunting skills and then what...die?” I couldn’t help but let a slight sarcasm leak into my tone, earning a scowl from her.

“That is none of your business. We are not mates anymore remember? So my living or dying doesn’t concern you or your...life,” she snapped. I chuckled before my gaze landed on her injured leg. She was preferring the right to the left. My smile turned into a frown again.

“I can help youー”

“Don’t. I don’t fucking need your help!” she shouted. I could see the sheen of unshed tears cradled in her eyes. She was distressed. Why was she so obtuse?

“Well, die in the wilderness then. An omega like you will never stand a chance to survive. Either you will be killed by the dogs or get killed by some of us,” I spat. It was useless to make her see the logic. Why was she hellbent on hating me? I know our kinds don’t gel well. But I have seen a vampire-werewolf pairing before. It’s not forbidden, but rare.

She shot me a pointed look as if she would rather be killed by someone than take my advice. I turned back on my heels, not bothering to look back and hoping that this would be the last time I crossed paths with that girl.

Myra The vampires circled around me while I foolishly remained frozen in place. My eyes turned heavy and belatedly I realized that it was due to the sweet-smelling scent that vampires emitted to make their prey immobile. I made peace with the fact that this might be the end of my short life, but at least I will be relieved of my misery. ~~~~ I groaned as my senses slowly came back. I opened my eyes to a room drenched in morning rays of the sun. A room that was wholly unfamiliar and luxurious. The windows were decorated with rich and expensive looking curtains; the walls were painted tastefully and the bed on which I was lying was the most comfortable that I had ever gotten the privilege to sleep in. For a dreading moment, I thought that I had been captured. It was unheard of about girls being taken away by their m

Damian I stare at Carlos and Vianca's charred bodies. This is a wizard’s or a witch’s handiwork. I scoured the area. There were no traces of any kind. Suspiciously even that omega was gone. That, however, did not increase my worry for her. The spot where I had left was vacant and flies were buzzing around the carcass I had left. Aaron made a face at the scene. “Fucking idiots.” I couldn’t agree more. These two newly formed vampires were getting ahead of themselves. I had heard multiple complaints against them, disrupting and breaking rules. “Who could have done it?” Aaron voiced my question. I shrugged. “Ask someone to put them in coffins. Inform their family.” “Yes, boss.” Aaron got to work while I subtly tried to search one more time. On my way back, I halted when a thought struck me. Could it be...Andrew?

The moment I had agreed, she had pulled me up and almost dragged me downstairs. By that time, Andrew had emerged from the dining room and was heading somewhere. Eric was unfortunately nowhere to be seen. “Welcome to the pack of misfits.” My eyes widened as if I was waiting for him to reject, to tell me that he had changed his mind. But he was only smiling gently, his eyes kind and clouded with an unfamiliar emotion. Violet squealed and I couldn’t help but wonder whether she reacted this way with every newcomer. My unvoiced question was soon answered as the girl fist pumped. “Finally! I am not the only she-wolf.” I looked at Andrew quizzically, who only s

He never tells me why he addresses me like I am someone from the 18th century. He might be from that era, but that’s not an excuse for him to address me like that. He is a great wizard, a famous one at that and calling me that sometimes makes me feel ashamed and awkward. “Fancy seeing you here,” I said. He inclined his head. “I returned from...abroad a few days ago.” He interlocked his fingers and rested his elbows on the table. “So why this impromptu visit?” I prodded. Was it about the killings? “I have rescued your mate.” “What?” His lips twitched at my surprised look. “Well...she

She had become alert. ‘What happened to me?’ she asked in a panicked tone. I scoffed but did not answer her. Right now, that wasn’t my concern. Sun rays streamed in through broken windows and wherever they had found a crack. Creepers and roots had embraced the walls like one would wrap a scarf around their neck in winter. The place was creepy and gave off bad vibes. “I didn’t believe it when I got the news about your ‘rebirth’. I had laughed for quite some time, but now I see that the news is true,” the masculine voice said playfully. Rebirth? My gaze flickered to Vi, staring at my reflection with approval, a proud glint in her eyes. I stood up, careful to not ruin the dress that somehow Vi had bought for me. When I had asked her, she had shrugged. The wine red off-shoulder bodycon dress fit me perfectly. Even with a lack of curves, I had managed to pull it off. She had kept the makeup light, painting my lips with red lipstick and dabbing just a little highlighter. My hair was left open but styled in a tousle. I felt beautiful. “Thanks,” I said. “You look bomb.” Vi winked. I blushed at the compliment. I chose to slip on flat pumps because I had never worn heels in my life, ne

  • Omega Turned Royal   Epilogue

{3 years later…} [Myra] The day begins like any other. The castle is now our permanent abode. Every day hasn’t been filled with roses and peaches. There has been a number of ugly attempts of invasion, and there have been attempts at assassination, but somehow we have persevered. I make my way to my office where I know a tonne of paperwork will be waiting. But I sense my mate’s presence instead as I approach my office. As expected, he sits on one of the vacant chairs, flipping through a file. “I thought you needed to leave for another Pack/Nocturnal meeting.” I walk over to him and lean down to kiss him nonetheless. He abandons the file in favour of pulling me on his lap. I loop my arms around his neck and nip his bottom lip. “I did, but the alpha and the luna also want you to be present,” he murmurs against my lips. “Huh? Why?” I ask, pulling away. He shrugs. “I guess you are more popular and amiable than I am. At least that is what Celie reports.” I giggle at that but it i

[Celie] “Looking at him won’t change the inevitable.” I am startled by Andrew’s voice. I am not this oblivious. However, today can be exempted considering the whirlwind of stuff that happened and culminated to this day. I shoot a mild glare at him before turning back to look at the King who will probably be a memory when the sun rises next. “Go bother Alexandra,” I mutter as I lean back on the couch, a glass of deer’s blood in my hand. My taste buds have adjusted to the smell and taste miraculously. Alexandra said that it will take a while before I can go back to having ‘human’ food. I can’t wait. Instead of doing what I suggested and going to Alexandra’s room, he takes a seat beside me. My heart doesn’t flutter but I feel a knot form in my stomach. His presence has always done that. “How do you feel about your new position?” he asks. I shrug. “I’ll manage. I will give Damian a hell of a time.” I am not even kidding. That man will pay for what he did today. Only because today

[Damian] King. The Vampire king. That is what the former King uttered while placing the crown on my head. The weight of the golden crown and the powers seep into my skin as Elder Lana reads the decree, the responsibilities that entail the role. My eyes wander to my parents who look proud, to Melissa who stands grinning and towards my werewolf friends, who smile when our gazes meet. My gaze wanders to my mate, who is more nervous than I am even if she appears to be calm. She stands poised and beautiful. Mine. Possessiveness curls around my dead heart. The echo of these emotions has increased ever since she became my mate. I wonder once again what my earlier self would have felt if he got the chance to become the King. If he was given the chance to rule with his mate? But it is rhetorical, isn’t it? Because we are the same. Myra’s eyes flicker to mine when she senses my gaze on her. Her eyes widen infinitesimally before her cheeks tint pink when she looks at the intent behind my gaz

[Myra]Jamie fills the silence with his non-stop chatter and it is a welcoming respite. Viola sits beside me in companionable silence, occasionally replying to Jamie’s quips with her own retorts and sometimes joking. It’s a short journey and yet it feels stretched out. I feel sweat trickle down the nape of my neck, trickling down the spine. I shift a little and Viola immediately turns her attention towards me. “Should I crank up the AC?” Jamie asks, glancing at me through the rearview mirror. I nod. “That would be great.” The make-up is a water-based one so one less worry about sweating away the hard work Viola had done. Out of the blue, another image crosses my mind like a memory long-forgotten. [Myra] What can an omega dream of in this Supernatural world which strictly follows hierarchy? Maybe finding a mate who is loving, or living a life without being beaten into submission. But becoming a Royal? Becoming a Queen? Maybe not. At least I did not have any such dream. I dreamt of a loving mate, a life free of slavery. But that is not what I got, not at the beginning at least. My parents left me or rather were forced to leave me behind while their lives were sucked out. “What are you thinking?” Violet asks me with a light pat on my shoulder. I blink out of my thoughts and shake my head. It’s nothing serious after all, not anymore. “I swear, this dress was probably waiting for you,” Violet mutters as she straightens whatever crease was still visible even if a little. My gaze flickers back to my reflection — the red gown goes well with my pale skin. The sweetheart neckline and the off-shoulder straps, highlight my collarbone while the cinched corset style of the top makes my

[Celie]“Nope. Not happening,” I shake my head vehemently at the proposition. What the fuck is this senile bloodsucker even saying? Elder Lana or so I reckon looks me up and down like I’m some sort of untouchable and lowly being. They wouldn’t be doing that if they knew how I defeated their revered High Queen. “Why?” Damian counters on behalf of the King. I shoot him an icy look. Does he not get it? I am a newly transformed hybrid and someone who basically destroyed their mental albeit delusional image of a Queen who had never been someone they thought her to be, and he wants me to ask why. They will never accept me even if they comply with the King’s wish. “I think this girl is right, Your Highness,” Elder Elisa says primly, as if it pained her to agree with me. I scoff inwardly. Like I care, asshole. But the King shakes his head, slow but firm. “I have given my verdict. She… defeated the Queen. She saved me… I am grateful to her.” The voice is feeble but sincere, which is why I d

  • Omega Turned Royal   84. The Next Ruler

[Myra] I have never seen such mayhem. The covens were either hurling verbal insults at Celie or simply running to get their information across to their Elders. Celie has managed to create a barrier even though she didn’t want to. If I am not wrong, it’s not easy to get hold of Elders. Usually, they either roam different parts of the world after serving their covens or packs or clans, or they simply go incognito which simply means that one won’t get hold of them until they want to. Some still stay back and act as the advisor or are simply there as a helping hand, someone who commands respect. There are a few and I bet the people who have gone, have gone to these few, who crave power, more power and try to keep the leaders of their concerned pack or coven or clan in check. “Bloodsuckers and their stupid dead brains,” Celie muttered, “Oi. You are one of them now,” Damian shoots back without any heat.“As if I wanted to be one,” she retorts and gives Andrew a withering look which the ma

I don’t bother with whoever follows me, too pre-occupied and curios and not to mention basking in sheer joy in knowing that my potions and medicine still work, even though it hasn’t been that long. I am swifter than I used to be which is the only good thing about being a bloodsucker. I can hear multiple footsteps behind me but I don’t bother with them. What is important now is to see the King and what he has to say. When I enter, the King is already sitting up, looking less pale, less like a ball of flesh and bones and more like a vampire albeit too fragile to look menacing. I come to a halt and bow. “Your Highness.” I hear a few begin to whisper as they stand slightly afar, wary but curious.
