Sam began to notice landmarks that looked familiar, and she gave Alpha Amal directions. The car had been cruising along, and Sam had gotten used to passing trees at whiplash speed. They soon came across a large sheet of rock with a smooth face and Sam remembered it from her journey. She urged Alpha Amal to stop, and when he did she walked over to the rock, put her palm over it and paused.

She had first seen that rock a few days into her journey, and it had a crevice in which she had lived. She had stayed in that crevice for about a day or two, and had not been harmed by anything. It was also the first point of the journey at which she had felt comfortable and assured that she would be okay. She touched the rock fondly and went back to the car, continuing the journey in silence.

When she got back into the car, Alpha Amal stared at her wordlessly, and for a minute, neither of them spoke. Noticing her sober mood, he turned off the radio, and stopped thrumming his fingers on the steeri

In town, things were not that much better. The town that Sam had once been so proud of looked like it was in ruins. The homes looked abandoned, and when a few minutes into the drive, Fabian asked to be let out of the car, Sam looked around, worried.“Here? Are you sure, Fabian? This doesn't look very homelike to me. ”“Yes, this is where I live with my sister. ”“Um-” Sam looked dubiously at the direction he was pointing. It seemed like that was where the old running grounds were. “Show me? ”“Oh, you want to see? I can show you! "Excitedly, Fabian pushed the words out, running towards the field.Puzzled, Alpha Amal wound up the windows, shut the door and took my hand, both of us going after Fabian. After a five minute walk, the party came across a little shack, hidden in the woods. The shack looked like it had seen better days; the wood was rotting and barely holding up together, and Sam could spot at least four mold spots. When they got to the front door, Fabian simply pulled open

“Are you looking for theAlpha of this pack? ” called a voice, and startled, Sam and Alpha Amal pivoted on their feet. Behind them was a woman, short hair, round face and wide eyes. She looked better nourished than Fabian's entire family, and her sheeks had a shine to them. When the initial shock wore off, she nodded her head.“Yes, I am.” She remembered that Alpha Amal was with her and quickly amended that. “Yes we are, ” she said, gesturing between them. The pale woman looked between them and asked, “what is your name? ”“I'm Sam, and this is Alpha Amal of the Dark Orchard pack.”“What is your business with our Alpha here? ”“No, no business. I was sent on exile a few months back from this pack, but as I have already found a new home and I am settled in, I wanted to check in on my old home. ” Already disarmed by the lady's demeanor, Sam started to walk to the car, pulling Alpha Amal along, “look, it's not necessary that I see him. I just wanted to say hi. It was nice to meet you. ”

Alpha Amal's POV. It was late at night when we finally made it back to my pack, and from the looks of things, my mansion had fallen asleep. I had told my pack members that I was going on a business trip and would be taking Sam, and they had all bought it. Now that they were back, he helped her carry their things out of the car and past the guards. Once they were inside the mansion, he continued up the stairs, while she took the food baskets into the kitchen and grabbed their dinner. When he finished bringing the things into the room, he watched as she carried the tray up the stairs and went into his bedroom - he had left the door open for her. Everything in the room was still in pristine shape, and when she went outside to the verandah, she simply took off the protective cover she had set on it, while he locked the door. She set the food tray on the clean table and went back inside his room, grabbing fresh sheets from the cabinet in his bathroom. Once she had shaken those out, sh

When she woke up in the morning, Sam was disoriented and at first did not know where she was. It was the first time in quite some time that she had not had that nightmare of being in her former pack; the montage of Derrick dying, being accused of killing him, and even running away from stray wolves on her journey to this new park - dark orchard - had not featured in her dreams. She woke up with her head on Alpha Amal's chest. He was half asleep, but she had memories of his fingers trailing through her hair and her getting dressed in something she did not remember putting on. Remembering that she had not done her job when they got back, she sat up startled. When she looked around, she initially searched for the suitcase, and then she wiped her eyes only to find that the clothes that they had brought back from the trip had been packed away and set into the closet. The room was clean and she was freshly showered - Alpha Amal had gone through so much trouble to ensure that she was comf

He kept her company till day break, lulling her back to fall asleep in his bed with a promise to wake her up in the morning. Unfortunately, he was snoring when the day began, and she only woke up when she heard a gentle rap at her door. She quickly left Aloha Amal's side and pulled on her maid's outfit, answering the door even though she had not yet finished buttoning it up. She suspected it would be Charity, and was very pleased to find out she was right. In front of her door, Charity stood with a tray of food for her and Alpha Amal, along with a few sprigs of a plant at the side. “Chew them for your pain, ” she said, setting the tray of food on Sam's table and turning back around. “Oh, and you owe me a storytime. Where did you guys go yesterday? And why were you crying? ”“I'll tell you later, ” replied Sam, pushing her out of the door,“come on, go! ”“Okay! I will, but are you okay? ”“Yeah, I'm alright. ”“Okay, girl. Bye! ”Sam shut the door behind her and went ahead to take t

The raised hands turned out to be people volunteering to assist the newcomers. When Alpha Amal permitted the first one to speak, Sam was already on the edge of her seat, so when the person spoke, she visibly calmed down.“Sir, will they need any help settling in?”At that, another distant hand went up, asking, “the homes they will be staying in, are they clean?”“Will they be allowed to help us with the harvest?”“Do you know if there's anything they don't eat? I would like to bake them a ‘welcome to the neighborhood’ cake.”Over and over, the questions came, and with a smile, Alpha Amal addressed their concerns. Yes, he told them, they would need help settling in. There were children who had lost their families, and they would need help settling in. No, the homes were not clean yet, and they were sending pioneers, who would be arriving the next day, would they be so kind as to help them clean up their new home?Sam beamed with pride at how the entire meeting broke up into diffe

The next few days were quite the frenzy in the Dark Orchard pack, and Sam found that she was glad to be so busy. The day after the town hall meeting, River from Weeping Willows showed up along with Eve, and Sam and Alpha Amal had gone into town to welcome them and make them comfortable. The trip to town was quite quiet that morning as Sam was not used to waking up so early - she had to wake up two hours earlier than usual, and was still feeling a brain fog from waking up so early. “Sam-” tried Alpha Amal, but she merely turned away from him in an attempt to catch a few more winks of sleep. When they got to town, she allowed him to help her out of the car and they made their way to the town hall, where River and Eve were both standing beside their luggage, wide smiles on their faces. Sam immediately saw that she and Alpha Amal were not really needed there; the pack members had been more than hospitable. They had fed the two guests, and every few minutes, one more person came over to

Alpha Amal's POV.He watched as Sam rushed to her room and wondered what was wrong. Perhaps he was imagining things, but had she not been the one in a good mood in the car before they made the drive home? She had been beaming after River had made his grand apology, and there had been a certain shine to her eyes. Now all that was gone and had been replaced with a frown and an attitude, and he had no idea what was wrong. He grabbed the bouquet of flowers he had gotten for her and climbed up the stairs, heading to his room to write the note for her. He was supposed to have done that at the florist, but the sun had popped up from behind a cloud, and he was worried that Sam would get sunburnt. The instant he finished writing the note, he was on his feet and headed towards her room. In her hurry, she had forgotten to shut the door in between their rooms, so he went through it, making a beeline for her bed, where she laid, fully dressed. He did not want to startle her, so he took steps ba

The warriors were already in battle, fighting off the rogues. Sam knew she had to help. She quickly joined the fight, using the skills she had taught the warriors. She fought fiercely, taking down rogue after rogue. After what seemed like hours, the battle was won. The pack had emerged victorious, thanks to the warriors and Sam. I need them to stand up, all the girls from the mansion, could you please rise up?” When nobody moved, she gestured at the table to call them herself. “Elan, Charity, Nora, Sam! Get up here!” When all four of them got up from their chairs and moved towards the podium, the hall erupted in applause, causing blotches of color to form in the cheeks of all four women. “These are the women who made today so wonderful. From the food options to the flowers and the dresses and your comfort, these are the women who made things happen. Zack had been standing at the Altar, and Sam thought she had seen a year drop from his eyes, and Alpha Amal's too. The two men had developed an understanding that Sam knew nothing about, and her husband was part of his party. A photographer ran forward and captured a picture of the moment, and Sam felt her cheeks begin to throb from how wide her smile was. The officiant walked forward - a man from town - and began to join the couple in matrimony. Everyone gushed over how adorable the couple was as the wedding went on, and a collective breath was held when he asked if there were any objections to the wedding. There were none, and Sam was glad. Soon, the ceremony was over, and the newly wedded couple walked out of the chapel, getting pelted by rice and flower petals. Sam wondered if they would be left to walk all the way to the reception area, but then decided against it. She got into one of the cars that she and Alpha Amal had brought from the mansion along with Charity and the gi

“None of us here know Sam as well as I do. And I want to tell you all that she has been through quite a lot. A lot more than anyone should have to go through, and we should celebrate her because of how strong she is. How beautiful and kind she is. How patient and loving. We should all be thankful that we know her!”Everyone laughed, but glasses were clinked again, with Sam beaming over at her drunken best friend. That night, they stayed talking about everything and nothing till the wee hours of the morning, the women setting themselves apart from the men.Paisley's wedding was in a week, and preparations were in place. She had been questioning if reception should be held in the town hall, and Sam agreed that it needed a lot of thought, especially if she wanted to invite everyone in town.“I don't know, I think my estate is bigger than the town hall, and it can hold more people. And since the food is being made in my home, if anything runs out, it can quickly be replenished, you kno

No more was said of Alpha Amal's father, calls had stopped coming in, and Sam's nightmares had ended almost as soon as they had begun. Vivian, Dave and Dan were now permanent fixtures around them, and every few minutes, they could be seen following Sam and Alpha Amal. She had finally moved all her things into Alpha Amal's room permanently, allotting that room to the guards to rotate in, so they could watch them. The central door was kept permanently locked, so no one would barge in or walk in on anyone dressing. It worked for everyone, mostly because the guards were permanently aware of whatever actions were being taken.Sam had - surprisingly - gotten used to their presence, and no longer resented that she couldn't go anywhere without a shadow. She had befriended Vivian and gotten to know her, so it felt more like she was hanging out with a friend than she was being watched. Alpha Amal on the other end had gotten flustered with every single visit of his guards. Dave and Dan would e

The day is going fine, and I am actually reconsidering my decision on birthdays, until he comes in.”Alpha Amal looked in between his wife and his grandmother, wondering if he had missed something. “Am I missing something, guys? Who comes in?”“Elder Mark. He is angry, and as a wolf, in the dream, he cha he's at the party and barrels straight for me, ripping me apart. In the dream, I die before I can see anything, but this time around I actually saw you die first, Amal. He mangled you beyond recognition, and killed me, so he could use my head as a warning to other people. I think we should be worried about him, Amal.”Alpha Amal put his hand on his chin to think about it, and then immediately he had processed what she had just said, he held out his hand to Sam. “How long has this been happening? And why didn't you tell me? I would have listened.”“I just didn't want to worry you. Things have been going so well and now I'm having stupid dreams about stupid men and things that are prob

“Oh, of course,” responded Zack. “He's on our way, and it really doesn't cost anything. Will he be much longer though? Surely, if it were anything too important, they would have had it sooner?”“I guess.”Just then, Paisley came back in to fetch Zack, and without any previous discussion, she turned to Alpha Amal and his father and yelled. “Look, gentlemen. I would like to drop YOU off, but until you wrap up your little conversation, I cannot in good conscience do that, so could you hurry up?”She slid into a chair with that and I quickly ran to the kitchen to get them both bottles of cold water and some fruit. “Thank you so much for coming,” I said, handing her the bag. With my eyes, I finished the rest of the thank you, thanking her profusely for dropping off Alpha Amal's father. Soon their conversation ro

After their breakfast together, they both went down the stairs to check in on the guests who didn't live in the mansion. They were matching again, and she thought it was intentional on Alpha Amal's part. She nudged him gently as they took the first steps down. “Matching with me, aren't you?”“Yes, I am. I'm cute like that, aren't I?”Teasingly, she scrunched up her nose and muttered, “umm.” “Hey!” he yelled, earning a glance from the maids who were in earshot and heard him. Together they walked over into the kitchen, saying hi to the chef before heading on over to the dining area, where they could hear the chatter between Paisley and her partner, and Sam peeped in head first, wanting to see if Alpha Amal's father was also at the table. He was, at a corner, quietly nibbling on some toast. She felt for him, knowing that his wife was near him but for whatever reason he could not have access to him. Alpha Amal peered after her and followed her line of sight. When he realized that s

When he finally came out of the bathroom, Sam rushed him into his closet, pointing out the clothing she had set out for him. Confused, he looked up at her. “Sam, these are not my clothes, where did they come from?”“They are my gift to you.”He found that questionable, but he slipped on the shirt, noting with alarm that it worked perfectly well for his figure. “How come-”“I know my way around measuring.” At his raised eyebrow, she completed her statement. “And I stole one of your shirts to measure it with.”“What a woman,” he laughed, turning to give her a forehead kiss. Completely dressed, she pulled him onto the chair in front of his dresser, oiling his scalp for a quick massage before she brushes his hair through. Finished and satisfied with how they were both looking, she set out for the door, holding it open for him. He stepped out ahead of her and walked down the stairs, noting in awe that the entire mansion had been decorated. “Sam! How? I walked last here this morning, and
