As Derek landed on the ground, he rolled off the wolf, not minding the sharp edges of the unleveled earth that dug into his skin, before he looked at the third person who had appeared out of nowhere.

He looked at her face for a few seconds longer not minding Sarah's wolf who was getting up on its paws. Whoever it was, he hoped the person was on their side. If not, they were doomed.

She had an oblong face, a pale white skin, short curly hair that made her look a little like a male and a scowl that had been on her face since she'd been knocked off her feet (literally) - to her surprise. She was looking at him, too, wondering what on earth he was doing down there.

"Brie?" Derek whispered barely able to contain his excitement. He knew her because she was a friend of his sister. To be more exact, an acquaintance. They had been good friends but not anymore.

She knew he was one of the three contestants chosen but things be

Unlike the others who were present, Brie was still fresh, filled with energy and although baffled at having been tossed into a battle, enthusiastic. She dodged all of Sarah's attacks, planted a few of hours which she missed, too. All the same, she was very much in tune with her wolf. They spoke, exchanged ideas, calculated and reasoned together before any step was taken. And they did that fast enough to avoid wastage of time. One time, Brie had just dodged a massive blow from Sarah's jaw. She knew what she wanted to do next. She had all of it planned out but she wasn't fast enough. After the punch was dodged, Sarah's wolf used the momentum to her advantage. She spun around, wiped her tail on Brie's face - which was one of the greatest forms of disrespect, before planting her hind legs which were much stronger than the fore ones into her face.As the paws connected with her face, Brie was pushed backwards.

Although all of them remained behind, Harold walked to where Brie was and together, they watched as Sarah became her human form back.“It's nice to see you,” Harold whispered to her when he stood beside her. They both had their gazes on Sarah but to keep things cool between them, Harold said what he did.“Everyone has been wondering why you all aren't back,” she said. “Have you been here since the contest began?”Harold was silent for some seconds. He was close to a hundred percent thanks to his lycanthropic blood that meant he healed fast. The problem was that Sarah healed a lot faster. Too fast.“No, not since it began. We went into the forest for some days.” He paused or some seconds as Sarah stood on her feet. “But things happened and we are here now.”“Who won the orb?” Brie pushed further.&ldquo

"Will you please let go of her?" Harold asked, referring to his stepmother. It was bad enough that it was through her body that all this evil was being carried out but it was even worse that it was something she could do in real life."Not until I find someone else, embittered and just as strong as she is."As she spoke, Trisha sketched a theory in her head. It wasn't much but better than nothing. It was most likely something Harold won't like but it seemed to be the only way out.If they were able to weaken her body till it was almost limp an unmoving, Sarah will be forced to leave her body."How were you able to become a spirit although you were once a wolf?" Trisha asked. She didn't know why buy she felt like buying more time."It a long story," Sarah said, "there's no time for that." She paused for a while, "do you see why I can't be killed?""Because your sister won't allow it,

When they had all descended on Sarah to the extent that she couldn't move, they stopped and surrounded her. She had made a mistake by telling them how she was able to recover quickly and now, they were going to use it against her.Slowly, Sarah's human form resurfaced and for the first time in a long while, she was bleeding. There was a long cut on the edge of her lips and out of it blood seeped. Her jawline had some bruises and when she managed to get on her feet, they could all see that her right arm was bent to an odd angle. It was not until she was in her human form that they realised that they had done more damage than they intended. It had been hard to know how much torture they had inflicted on her when she still was a wolf. When she stood on her feet, they all stood at alert, expecting her to try something funny. If after being banished from where she lived when she was younger, had survived in the wild and

When Sarah had answered Trisha's question and it was obvious Harold and the others hadn't made up their minds on what to do with her, she began to get on her feet.“Stop right there!” Harold said suddenly and all eyes fell on him. He sounded unlike himself. His voice held authority, confidence and self-assurance.Sarah cocked her head sideways, causing her hair to drop then she smiled.“Do you have anything to do to me, son?” she asked. Her voice was sultry, held a touch of mock and spiteful pity. Her eyes were locked into Harold's.Without answering her, Harold transformed to a wolf and began to run towards her.All things being normal, she would have stayed on a spot and allow him do all that he wanted to do. They'll be killing her sister, the Moon Goddesses after all, not her, but her wolf had other plans. When Harold was about to bump into her,

Trisha and Harold looked right again, away from Sarah's smiling face and their eyes settled on their friends. They were all on the ground, bleeding and groaning in pain. There was only one person standing and he had his head bowed not in shame. No, but rather, to spawn mystery. It was Derek."Never underestimate what I can do," Sarah said with an evil chuckle. Harold turned to look at her while Trisha had her eyes on Derek in case he wanted to try anything funny. "If you do then you can be rest assured that you're dead."She paused for some seconds, allowing her words sink in."You thought you killed all of my minions: the ghouls but no. You all failed to recognise and kill the one who was by far the most dangerous."Due to their close proximity, Trisha and Harold were able to communicate effectively without having to bother that Sarah and Derek were eavesdropping. The others were still writhi

Sarah was much, much bigger than she had been seconds ago. It was like she had air blown into her but Harold knew better than that. The whole of her eyes were the darkest shade of black, making her look surreal. Like a character who could only exist in one's most terrifying nightmares. Her hair was longer and red, like blood. Her arms were longer, too, and they dangled at her sides like the tentacles of an octopus.“The long arms of the Goddess will always catch up with you,” she said in a slurred voice like she was drunk. Her grace which emanated out of her high cheekbones, long blonde hair, spotless gown and amazing physique seconds ago was now replaced with something else. Something mystery, and intriguing, and dreadful.“There's only one thing we have to do,” Harold told his wolf. The wolf grunted a little as it took a few steps backwards, away from Sarah as if asking ‘what is it?’

Trisha was finding it difficult to take down Ericson and it was the same with him. They were both evenly matched, knew the same skills — or at least, had the answer to each others spells, had the same tricks in their hats and had an almost equal experience.Derek's wolf began shooting bullets made of plasma out of his hand and in return, Trisha created a shield, also made out of plasma, to keep herself safe. While in the plasma that formed a blue semi-circle round her, although she couldn't see it clearly, she could see the bodies of all the others. She knew it won't have been as easy as it was for Derek to take them out but he had used the element of surprise to his advantage.Brie was the closest to her. She was sprawled on the ground in a defenceless position. Her arms and legs were spread wide apart and her eyes were closed. It would have been very easy for the ghoul that was in Derek to t

  • Omega (Book 1)   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY EIGHT

It was the end of a session and although Harold and Wilkes especially had been to a rough start, things got a lot better after the contest and as they stood in their room, getting ready to go home for the holiday, for the first time since they had gotten to the school, they felt and behaved like other students.“Who is coming to take you home?” Harold asked Wilkes as he eyes lazily landed on the messy heap of cloth that were in his bag. There was no way he was going to take his time rearranging them. No, that was too much stress.“I'm not very sure,” Wilkes answered as his eyes scanned the room for any of his belongings he might have missed. The room was pretty empty compared to how it had been two hours ago. Even the bulb that shone a dark light had been taken from its socket. “I mean, it is either my aunt or her husband; my uncle, or them both.” He sighed as he looked back at his huge travelling bag that was on his bed. “I don't think it mat

For the first time since the new intakes had been in Golden Lake University, rain fell.It was on a Friday and most of the semester had gone. Things had gone back to normal or at least, almost had.Sarah returned back to her park after being told all what happened by Harold. She promised not to tell anyone anything but deep down, Harold knew it was only a matter of weeks - a month or two, if lucky - before she told someone all she had been told. All the same, they did tell her everything. She deserved to know the truth.Derek, too, was back to his old self: lively, goofy and weird and with him was the love of his life, Penelope, who acted like the perfect housewife who without doubt, she was going to be. She seemed content that way.Although Wilkes never and probably never will admit it, the couple - Derek and Penelope - made him jealous. One of the reasons he had been excited to resume in Golden

"What does this mean?" Wilkes asked as he, too, bent his neck over the sheet of paper.Harold read the words again. Just like in the first letter he had gotten, this, too, was warning him of something in the most confusing way possible."I don't know," he replied. "But I do know that this is from professor Ericson. He must have written it before he died. You know, expected us to search his room when he was gone.""That's unlikely," Wilkes said dryly. "It most likely is to someone who knows of its existence behind the clock and that person definitely isn't you - or me. Besides, how are you so certain it is from professor Ericson?""The handwriting. They're... similar. Don't you see it?""I don't. At all." He sighed then continued, "we'll compare the handwriting of this paper and the one from the letter we are certain he handed to you together when all of these is over.""Yes, seems l

Harold and Wilkes waited in professor Ericson's office, doing nothing. When the party were first in the cavern, their footsteps reached up above where Harold was but after roughly a minute, there was nothing to tell that those that had gone down there existed.“Do you have any reasons why you wanted is to come here?” Wilkes asked when it was just the both of them in (Late) professor Ericson's office. Harold almost always had a plan. He knew that.Harold looked around the room like it was his first time being in it.“No,” he said. “I just wanted us to be here when they went down there.”Wilkes looked puzzled. That didn't seem like Harold.“But now that we're here,” Harold continued, oblivious of Wilkes confusion, “why don't we just look around for whatever we can find.”He paused for a while and looked at Wilkes before continuing, “we never know what we might f

Derek woke up with a series of cough.Penelope sprung out of the bed she was sat in and went to his side.“Are you okay?” she asked, wrapping her fingers around his arm. He was a lot thinner than he had been in the past.He fell silent for some seconds, “yes, I am okay,” he said, “how're you, too?” he asked, putting his other hand on hers which were on his arm.“I've never felt more alive than I am feeling right now,” she said.Derek chuckled, “that's good.”By then, Brie was also by his side but watched the both of them silently. Trisha sat in the position Penelope was in before, fiddling with her phone.Derek sat up and opened his eyes. He looked to his left and saw Sarah on the bed with him then he turned to look at Penelope, then Brie.“Thank you…” he said to Brie. “…for everything.” There was a short pause. “When you saw us down the

Trisha paced from left to right of Harold and Wilkes small room. It was either she was no longer aware of the presence of Brie and Penelope or she just wasn't bothered by their presence. The latter seemed the most feasible option."I'll have to call my dad this very moment," she said to no one in particular. She seemed to be talking to herself and the next second, her phone was in her hand, placing a call to reach her father. She brought the phone to her ear and waited. After what seemed like ages to the two females watching her, she breath in and out deeply, and began to speak."Hello, father," she started. There was a pause from her side because her father was talking. It went on and on and on but Trisha understood why. He hadn't spoken to his daughter in over a week and was worried something awful must have happened to her."Why didn't you pick your calls?" he asked. His voice was a lot louder than befo

Harold and Wilkes picked up pace as they ran back to Dr. Alvin Clarks's office. Their sneakers marched on the tuffs of grass and on the cemented pavement, too, but they didn't bother as they huffed and puffed. The breeze as they moved blew against their faces but that, too, didn't stop them. They had to get to Dr. Clark before he and the others left. When they got to the entrance of the building, they stopped running and walked in.The receptionist recognised them and gave them a small nod telling them to proceed with the reason they were there. The both of them acknowledged her nod and went to the elevator. They got in it and a few seconds later, they were on the top floor. They both walked down the absolutely beautiful but empty and very silent corridor slowly. They loved as their sneakers sunk into the red carpet the spread everywhere. They turned right and continued walking.“Do you think

Brie closed the door behind her with her leg. It made a loud snap that caused Derek to let out a soft moan as the sound wave caused his eardrum to tremble. She had the pizza box Penelope had asked for in her hand.“I didn't know which ones you like over the other so I went with good old Pepperoni.”Penelope's nose wiggled like a mouse's. “It isn't my favourite,” she started, “but isn't my worst either. Thank you,” she said as she got the box out of Brie's hands. She put it on the bed and walked to Derek' side. She knelt beside his bed but Brie peered down on him from above.“He's conscious already,” Penelope said, sounding like a small child who had just gotten a gift. She was talking to Brie.“Oh, has he?” Brie said, kneeling, too. “I can't handle it much any longer.”“Handle what?” Penelope asked, looking to her right, at Brie.“His sister, she has been dead worri
