Chapter 6 Handling the Divorce

Zachary felt annoyed as he looked at the divorce agreement and the cards in his hand. He thought Joey was just throwing a tantrum, but she was dead serious!

"Are you serious?" He forced the words through his anger.

Joey frowned. "I am. Sign it, and we can handle the divorce at the clerk's office the other day."

Zachary stared at Joey. They had been married for three years, and she had always been the perfect Mrs. Gray.

She was obedient, caring, and exceptionally good to his family, and especially to him. But now, she seemed like a different person. Her impatience and the words that escaped her once-lustrous lips were now icy. She couldn't wait to be free of him.

A sharp pain pierced Zachary's heart. He quickly shifted his gaze and walked into the living room. He said indifferently, "No need to wait. Tomorrow morning at 9 am, the clerk's office."

Joey thought she was prepared for this, but she realized her heart still ached when the moment arrived. It was like a thousand needles piercing her, leaving half her body numb. She didn't even know how she managed to leave the place.

In a daze, she stumbled back to her studio, collapsed on the bed, and suddenly realized the rolling pain in her stomach. She rushed to the bathroom and vomited everything she had eaten and drunk that night, but the pain only intensified.

She had a history of gastritis and was in excruciating pain, something she hadn't felt in a long time. In her rush to move, she had left her medication behind.

As she went from the bathroom to the bed, her back was covered in cold sweat. Enduring the pain, she called Selena.

Selena was in deep slumber and didn't hear the call. Joey was afraid she would suffer through the night in agony.

After hesitating for a while, she decided to call Zachary. The first call went unanswered.

On the second try, it rang twice and was picked up. The sweet voice on the other end was unmistakably Julia's.

"Hello? Who's this?"

Earlier, when Joey left the apartment, he had been alone. But in a flash, he was with Julia. Joey felt like she must have been out of her mind to seek help from Zachary.

Sensing her silence, Julia cautiously asked, "Is this Joey? Are you looking for Zac?"

Joey didn't want to hear nonsense about Zachary taking a shower. She promptly ended the call, curled up on the carpet, wrinkled her nose, and added all of Zachary's contact details to her blacklist.

After putting her phone down, she lost consciousness.

"Joey?" The next morning, she was awakened by Selena.

Still in her pajamas, she must have rushed over without changing her clothes, feeling guilty and blaming herself. "Is it your stomach acting up? It's all my fault. I slept too soundly yesterday and didn't hear your call."

Joey didn't have time for that. She sat up with a jolt and asked immediately, "What time is it?"

Selena replied, "It's 9 am."

Joey's mind raced. "I have an appointment with Zachary at 9 am to go to the clerk's office to get officially divorced."

Zachary hated tardiness the most. Joey quickly retrieved her phone, which had fallen on the carpet, and dialed Zachary's number. The phone rang once and then disconnected.

She had blocked him. Joey had swiftly blocked Zachary last night, and today, she was equally quick to unblock him. She dialed a voice message, maintaining a polite yet distant tone. "Are you still at the clerk's office? I'll come over now."

Zachary's cool voice came through the phone. "Are you suggesting that I wait for you at the clerk's office for half an hour?"

Feeling in the wrong, Joey didn't explain further. As she changed her clothes, she apologized over the phone, "I'm sorry. I'll try to be quick, maybe 20 minutes. Is that okay?"

Zachary responded coldly, "Do you think my time is as worthless as yours?"
