Alexandra Dellarosa POV
“I call dibs!” Said a Man who was well over his thirties and significantly had his head and belly oversized.
“On which?” The younger Man who was at the far corner of the room asked, walking towards the center of the room, where they had tied myself and a few other ladies. I wasn't sure about the number because I couldn't lean over to begin counting from the end of the line because both my hands and legs had been tied behind my back, and then again, I didn't want to attract attention to myself.
“This?” He asked, licking his lips mischievously as he pointed his fingers at one of the girls whose face I couldn't really see because she was at the far end of the line.
“Nah, too skinny. I doubt she'd get any bid, let alone having her for myself” The Man with the oversized head and belly replied, and they both burst out in laughter.
“Okay, Moose. That's a valid point” the younger Man let out referring to the older fellow. His words were choked by chuckles which apparently were remnants of the previously cracked joke.
“Hmm…then it must be this” He said, running his hands through the braids of the lady which he had only just picked. I noticed how the lady shriveled under the touch from the young man, it was as though he had a naked wire in his hands and she only just reacted to its loose electricity. She was very much scared and I was, everyone was.
I couldn't describe what I felt in that moment. Dad had obviously gotten off a rough path with the Gambino's and I was their card to making the path smooth enough. Fear was an understatement to what I was feeling. I had a thousand thoughts running through my head. All I could do was hope that Dad was Okay despite of the fact that I was in such a situation because of him. I didn't know where exactly we were, because the fellow that had dragged me out of the house had knocked unconscious a few minutes later. The next time I opened my eyes, my hands and legs were already tied up, I could barely move nor feel a thing. No one knew what was going on but the two Men who had been kept in the room to keep an eye on us continuously blabbed about an auction which was to hold later that night. It slowly dawned on me that we were the commodity to be sold.
“Uh Uh,” Moose let out, shaking his head in accordance, Portraying his disapproval to his friends pick.
“Too shy” He added with a chuckle.
“Oh, Oh, I see…you like bold eiii” The young Man making the rounds said with a laugh as he drew closer to my side of the line.
“Let me see…” He continued, scanning his eye through the queue where the rest of us were. I could feel my heart leap out of my chest as I prayed earnestly that he wouldn't pick interest in me but I wasn't in luck.
“Ahah. This is the one!” He exclaimed, making his way to where I sat. I tried my possible best to do everything but hold eye contact with the Man. He stooped down to my level as if to have a better look at me.
“Hey Beautiful,” He said with a whisper, voraciously licking his lips for the second time. He tried running his hands through my face, but I pushed myself away from his reach, and he responded with laugh.
“Feisty one huh” He chuckled
“Hey! Moose what do you think?” He yelled out, calling the attention of his acquaintance who seemed to have his attention glued to his phone now.
Blowing out a whistle, he said “Mirror, Mirror on the wall who is the fairest of them all”
He made his way to where I was, stooping down to my level just as the younger Man had done. They both laughed hard. They more the laughed, the more shivers and goosebumps I acquired. The younger Man tried touching me again, and I pulled away like the first time. He didn't take it lightly this time around, because he forcefully dragged my head forwards and I did something I almost regretted doing instantly. I spat on him.
“What!” He cried out as he gave me a resounding slap on the cheek.
“Eiii Tiny, calm down, calm down” Moose quickly intervened, trying to get a hold of the situation. The slap had left my left cheek numb, but I was more fixated on the fact he addressed him as Tiny. It wasn't the best of places to be humored, and not after being given a slap, but I voluntarily chuckled.
“Are you nuts?, You find this funny?” He yelled out
“Just hold on, I'll show you funny” He said, dashing down towards the other end of the room. His eyes scanning through the room as though he had been in search of something.
“Tiny, Calm down, don't do anything stupid” Moose tried to get his partner in check, but his efforts were to no avail. My first instinct was to dash out the door because whatever Mr. Tiny had going on in his head, definitely wasn't good. But it was off no use, I still was bound, hands to feet.
“I'll show you funny!” He kept on screaming to himself. Moose tried to get a hold of him, but he simply pushed him away. The ladies beside me had taken initiative to shift away from where I was. Because whatever I had coming, wasn't good.
Then in an instant, My eyes flashed through my eyes as Tiny got a hold of what he was looking for. If my guesses were as correct as my eye sight, it was a pistol!. Tiny had cocked the gun already, and was about to point it in my direction when Moose took a hold of his hand and they both began to struggle.
“What are you doing?” Moose cried out.
“Let me go!” Tiny replied.
“You are not thinking straight. Get your anger in check. What if Don finds out?” Moose managed to fuss out a sentence amidst the struggle for possession. But still Tiny couldn't be kept at bay. Suddenly, there was a deafening noise which was followed by a swoosh of Silence. The gun had been shot. I was perfectly fine and alive, but the stray bullet had hit one of the lady's on the line.
In a second, there was a deafening silence, and the next, there was a ruckus. Everyone was screaming and balling out their eyes. I couldn't help but join the band as well. The tears were flowing freely without a barricade to stop them.
“That could have been me”
“It was meant to be me” I muttered to myself audibly and continuously, like someone who had lost it.
“What have you done?” Moose yelled out.
Tiny was still on the floor, his hands still on the trigger, unable to voice out a word. He was in shock as regards what he had just done.
The door of the room suddenly opened, and four other Men rushed in, headed by a Man I quickly recognized to be Conti from back at the house. Conti scanned the room quickly, taking a Mental note of what had played out. His next action wasn't expected. He pulled out a gun from his coat and shot Tiny right on the spot. With Tiny’s hands still on the trigger, he wriggled on the floor in pain, and soon enough, he was in a pool of his own blood.
“Doll them up, it's almost time” Conti said referring to Moose, leaving the room without saying another word.
I didn't know it before, but the mere realization that my life was hanging on a balance only said one thing.
“I was in a deep mess”.
“What were my odds of leaving this room alive ?”
Alfredo Fabri POV Club Erebus was every Mafia's hot spot. The kind of things that went up in flames and down into charades within its environs were what you'd better left unsaid than taking a swing at it. It was a regular club to the regular public, but to the Mafia, it was much more. “Are you good?” I asked Gina for the umpteenth time“Hell yeah!” She exclaimed with a smirk. Her tone unfailingly hitting an elusive note.“Tenth,” She added shortly afterwards.“Tenth?” I queried, confused at the sudden reply which obviously has nothing to do with the question I had asked earlier on.“It'd be the Tenth time asking me the question tonight” She said, casting a glare in my direction.I didn't know whether to be stunned at the fact that she had Judiciously kept a precise detail of the number of times I had asked her the question but Gina was Gina, and she had never been one to do things that roved around the regular norm. She was the direct definition of what you would call “Different”, bu
Alexandra Dellarosa POV Tiny's death did not make anything easy for us. In fact, if his death did anything, it was to keep Mr. Moose on his toes. This wasn't a welcome development because Moose watched us like a hawk would do its prey. It was evident that he leaned into a particular interest in me not because of the little dibs game that he had played earlier with Tiny but because the incident had formed an opinion in his head that I was responsible for his friend's death. He didn't need to say much, his expression did all the talking. On the other hand, the girls had tagged me a Red zone. They had resolved it was far more safer to keep their distance away from me so as not to end up like the Lady who was a victim of Tiny's sudden escapade. They all had squeezed themselves at the far corner of the room, leaving me to myself, single as ever.“Don't try anything funny” Moose cried out from the center of the room, referring to no one else but me.“I didn't even move” I muttered under my
Alfredo Fabri POV As soon as the presence of Gina and I hadn't gotten off unnoticed, the atmosphere had all of a sudden gotten tensed for some reason which I sensed had to do with why we were at Club Erebus.“It's the butcher”“He's the devil's incarnate”“Don't look him in the eye, if you do, you're willingly signing a death sentence”I could hear the whispers of persons around. Gina and I were next in line to be checked through the list. Like I said, Club Erebus, due to the shady business that went on within it's walls, they made sure to properly scrutinize and check for moles who'd guise at times to be Made men of families.“Your reputation precedes you Fabri” Gina muttered beneath her breath, but loud enough to my hearing.“Oh please, it old news” I chuckled.“Got anything yet?” I asked scanning through the environment for things that'd seemed out of place from the norm.“Well, nothing asides Lil Joe's presence and your egoistic reputation”“That aside, nothing else” Gina finish
Alexandra Dellarosa POV After Conti’s little remark that I still couldn't fathom or comprehend, I had heard his words loud and clear. He had asked Moose to drag us down to the venue with the help of the goons.“You see this one, make sure she's at the back of the line” Conti scoffed. There was no way I could tell who he had been referring to because I had a sack over my head. But I guessed it must have been me.Someone who I thought to be Moose because of the way they had aggressively pulled at me to a spot was in charge of guiding me towards wherever they were taking us.“Ladies!” Conti’s voice rang out, I couldn't mistake the voice even with my eyes closed.“Your time has come. Today you meet destiny, today you become women with owners, today the saints cheer you on, today you become free!” He continued, spewing gibberish which I still couldn't understand.I couldn't help but spot out his use of the word “saints” yet again. What exactly was going on?. “Don't forget to smile when
Alfredo Fabri POV Unlike most persons, I knew when and how to follow my gut. Not as a form of superstition or anything, but I'd always described it as a natural cyber security system. I never purchased it, but it had always been there. “84” I called out, stopping down to knee length to pick up a number tag.I wasn't wrong, someone definitely had been behind us. Had they been following us? Were we being watched?“What's that Fabri?” Gina question, trying to get a hold of the genesis of the puzzled look on my face.“Something's off G” I said cautiously, careful that no one asides Gina heard what I said.“And the tour guide?” I asked, referring to the average man who had been guiding us through the path.“The Moron didn't even know we'd stopped in our tracks, but I'm sure in no time he'd figure it out and come looking for us” She said in a breath, genuinely irritated by the Man's inability to spot out the disparities in the atmosphere. That was the first sign of every great Mafia. You
Alexandra Dellarosa POV The lady beside me had just dropped dead, it was the second time someone had been shot so close to me. Not just that, but dying in my stead. I didn't know how I was handling it, but I felt like retching and the blood littered everywhere didn't augur well with my stomach.“You shot the wrong person Vegas!” A man who I perceived to be in his 60’s informed the tall Man who had only made his way to the back of the room from the front.“Did I?” Vegas questioned, wearing a perplexed look on his face.“You didn't even ask a question, didn't think of the need to know the root where the issue stemed from!” the Man cried out, his voice a little bit raised.“You just got into the room, dragged the pistol from Conti, and pulled the trigger!”“Are you high on something?” the older man asked“Language Reece! Language!” Vegas yelled out in the Older Man's direction, his voice cloaked in a cologne of authority. If there was anything I had learned so far, it was that whoever t
Alfredo Fabri POV “How do you feel being the only lady in the room” I jokingly asked Gina, twirling the wine glass rhythmically.“How do you feel playing detective as a Mafia, while stealing the spotlight in the room” She replied, gulping down the contents of her glass.“Funny” I mumbled.“But seriously, how do you do it Fabri?” Gina question with a stern face, fixing her glance attentively, towards my direction.“Do what exactly?” I asked, unable to grasp what Gina was hinting towards.“You walk into a room, and it's as though no one else exists but you. You carry out your duties flawlessly, leaving no room for mistakes.” She said, taking a pause to attend to the Man who just walked up to our row.“Hello beautiful—” He said, a smirk glued to his face.“I'll pass” Gina said, without a second thought. He was the eighth guy tonight to be greeted with the same response from Gina.“You didn't even allow him to settle G” I said unable to hold back the laughter that had long been welling u
Alexandra Dellarosa POV “Certainly this is not your first Rodeo” Reece asked, sizing me up from head to toes. I said nothing because I was required to say nothing. I had long come to a conclusion not to try anything stupid just as Moose advised. So far, my defiance had gotten me no where but nearer to the claws of an uncertain end. In here, in this world where it seems as though Men call the shots, there was no room nor provision available for people like us to voice out our unfortunate thoughts.“I mean, it's not your first Auction right?” He questioned again, expecting an answer. Sincerely, I didn't know if the question was to be left as Rhetorical and nothing more. I didn't quite get it, were there Ladies in here who had been auctioned once before?I simply shook my head to signify that I had no idea what he was talking about. My reply had given him a food for thought. It was either of two things, he either didn't believe that this was my first auction or he had come to an abrupt
Alexandra Dellarosa POV We both were in the car and all I could think of was whether or not I should dail the number. I was conflicted between thoughts and although it hurt to me to see Fabri so unsure of himself, I knew it was the greater good. There were things Fabri weren't telling me and although I had only just returned into his life, I felt a little bit in the right to know some of these things. Fabri had not said any other word since he got into the car, and it seemed as though he was the least bothered about starting out a conversation. He had a lot going through his head, and I could tell.“So…” I trailed, trying to break the silence “Aren't you going to continue with your explanation?” I asked, trying to start out a conversation at least. It seemed as though they more I'd held myself from saying anything, the more I'd only give off the vibe that I knew something and I simply wasn't willing to share.“I've apologized already “ He said, his voice void of emotion. I didn't e
Alfredo Fabri POV They say you never get over your first love and I'm not one to stick to these kinds of things. But in that moment, when a pound of adrenaline rushed through my veins as I hurried briskly towards the door of the restaurant, there was no other plausible explanation other than the mere fact that I still had undeniable feelings for Lex, even after all these years. There were Silent Chapters to our story that I knew sooner or later would have to be revisited. That was one of the major reasons I'd asked her out on a date. I wanted to clear the air on some things. I hated the way I was feeling. I felt helpless, pitiable and pathetic, all of which were feelings which made me feel as though I were a weak Man. A quality that I was void of in all ramifications. Rizzo had boldy pulled the first trigger, and the only way to show that I'd gotten his message was to respond accordingly.I silently prayed that Lex was fine. I couldn't spot anyone on arriving at the lot of the restau
Alexandra Dellarosa POV I was all alone, left to unravel the mysterious identity of the man I'd only just met, whose face I wasn't able to behold. From the look of things, he sure did have an aura to his personality not because his cologne lingered for much more than I'd expected, rather, his ability to remain composed irrespective of the fact that he'd played the role of a “stolen identity”. I was smart enough to know that whoever he was, would not have found his way to me if I'd not been affiliated with Fabri. But was that just a mere speculation? Was Fabri playing pranks just as he'd usually do when we were out on one of those numerous low budget couples outing. But I could still feel goosebumps all over me, it was so much and very evident to say that this had gone beyond the boundaries of some child's play. This was serious business and I didn't know the full on scope of what I'd gotten myself into. I made a mental note to tell “the real Fabri” about what had conspired between th
Alfredo Fabri POV You see in this business you're either in or you're out. But the “out” in this case implies that you're no longer alive and far from the earthly realm. Getting into the world of organized crime is no child's play, and by virtue of swearing an OMERTÀ, an oath on the Saints, you're in for life. You never get out, never. But there was only ever one exception our little world had witnessed and that's in the case of Lorenzo Rizzo also known as “The Whisper”.He was once a Consigliere of the Lucchese Family and one of the best the streets of the Big Apple and beyond had ever known. He got information that were termed “classified” whenever he wanted to. He was at the top of his game back then, and was literally an asset to the Lucchese Family. It didn't come as a shock when the Family had a little resistance and hesitation in eliminating Lorenzo as soon as he declared his intent “out” of the family and “out” of the world of Organized Crime. They didn't know how to take the
Alexandra Dellarosa POV The restaurant was dimly lit for some reason, probably Fabri's already failed attempt at creating a romantic atmosphere. I was done and all I needed for closure was for him to define our relationship. I'd heard a voice behind me and it was a deep baritone, I'd prior to then preconceived that no one else asides Fabri was in here even though he didn't show his face as soon as I stepped into the room initially.“What do you want from me Fabri?” I questioned, facing his direction. The venom in my voice was enough to pass across the message that I was fed up with whatever he had going on, and I was no longer buying the crap he was selling. The Fabri I once knew was dead and remarkably now a shadow of himself.“Hmm” He sighed without saying another word. I watched him reply out of the darkness, the rcandles in the room had cast a thick shadow towards the direction where he stood such that I couldn't properly see him. Although I could make out his bold figure and his
Alfredo Fabri POV The text message from earlier had kept me on my toes knowing that someone was out there watching my every move. I didn't understand how a text message could send such waves of shock, I'd thought we'd handled the matter in such a way that no one from the family could breathe a word about it to an outsider but evidently we had failed. I'd forced myself towards an unreasonable assumption that someone within was trying to ask smart. But I trusted the fold too much to think so lowly of them. Now don't get me wrong, I wasn't one to treat matters as these with a lot of sentiment, but I was certain that it'd take someone within to have such an audacious gut to try to go up against me. It wasn't pride but basic fact. The message had further succeeded in ruining my plans for the night, I'd thought about cancelling the little outing with Lex but I just couldn't bring myself to do that because the meeting meant so much to me, it felt as though it was that deciding fulcrum of t
Alexandra Dellarosa POV Fabri didn't deem it fit or necessary to be the one to convey me down to the location of our date. I felt it was a little too rude of him when I hadn't heard anything from him a few minutes prior to the time I'd been told our little meeting would be holding. Only for one of his pawns to knock on the door and ask that I tag along carefully.I died a thousand times, over and over again knowing that this was his proud excuse for a courtesy gesture. I died a thousand times. I had thought that probably he'd been carried away with the setting up of the venue for the date, but that reason didn't seem too substantial to me. It was a silent drive down to the restaurant. The guy who'd accompanied me barely threw a word in my direction all the while. The only other feasible thing that sat between himself and I was the dromes of the classical music he'd been listening to. It tasted more like a sad Melancholic drama and I doubted with everything in me that it could get any
Alfredo Fabri POV A lot of things were going south under my watch and it seemed as though I was losing my grip at things. I was certain that Lil Joe wasn't going off the hook and he wasn't saying anything, but I knew it was only a matter of time.“You know what to do right?” I asked LaRosa, hoping he'd taken the memo. We'd only just gotten out of another failed session with Lil Joe. He was not spewing anything other than gibberish, and plausible lies to throw us off trail and balance. But he was cracking slowly, whatever had made Lil Joe not to run his mouth like he normally would up until now, was strong enough to make him offer his life entirely without giving us a proper lead. But I knew why exactly he wasn't saying anything, I knew the stronghold they held as a leash to his neck.“I will look into the whereabouts of his family” LaRosa articulated. I'd figured that while Lil Joe's loyalty remained unquestioned to the family, he had a very strong liking to his family. His petite fi
Alexandra Dellarosa POV I was all alone in my room doing exactly nothing. I'd never for one day imagined the possibility of living in such a luxurious looking room, yet unable to appreciate the opportunity of doing so. For once, I missed Dad, the house and everything that didn't warrant me having to spend the next second inside of the room. Fabri had definitely morphed into a very busy man and from the look for things everyone withim and around him shared like minds. They were all busy people, people who from the look of things had gained some certain kind of stature and name in the society. I needn't read the details in the newspaper or watch the news to know this fact, the way they all carried themselves was enough to give that bit off. I watched myself wonder why everyone of them was too cooed up in corporate attires. I couldn't recall seeing any of them dress any less of themselves. From what I'd taken in so far, they all dressed to steal, what artifact they were gunning at, tha
