Chapter 2: The Boy

However, it's been weeks and no one came to visit me, not even a single shadow. Oh, there was. The doctor and the nurses.

My cheeks were puffed up when the door opened. The doctor, which I learned was Doc. Henry and the nurse named Ms. Cathy, entered the room. They did their regular check up on me and change some fluids.

I stared at them while they busied themselves.

"Why....why no one came to visit me?" I asked them which they return in silence. But it did not stop me to vent my frustration on them.

"Hey! Doc. Henry! Did they drop by at your office? Two weeks had passed already! I didn't even sleep to wait for them!"

"Nurse Cath! Did you really call them? How about my school? Or the police? Maybe they thought I was missing!"

"Hey! Hey! Answer me will you?! Please!" I am now practically shouting in front of their faces.

"Doc. Henry, I already notify the school." The Lord heard my prayer.

"What did they say?" Doc. Henry asked while still checking my heartbeat.

I am now standing in front of Nurse Cath and watching every twitch of her brows.

"What did they say? What did they say?" I added up. Nurse Cath was taking her sweet time!

"They....said..." Oh my! Nurse Cath can you not kill me with your suspense?!

"They said...?" Instead of shouting, I encouraged her to speak even it did not take any effect.

"...Her...situation is...a little bit...complicated..."

My eyes got wide at the hesitant and confused face of nurse Cath.

What is complicated?! Why complicated! Why not just call my parents! What is complicated with that! Just tell them I got in an accident!

Doctor Henry finally looked up. His tired eyes were hidden behind his thick glasses and dark hair flashed with irritation.

"What's with them? Did they have a way to contact her relatives?"

Nurse Cath confused face become more confused.

"I ask them that Doc. But...their answers got me confused too. They said that her details are confidential."

Both I and Doctor Henry furrowed our brows.

"Are they insane? Their student got in an accident and they did not help to contact her relatives? What kind of school is that?"

I nodded with the anger building inside of me. What's with that!

"Did they say anything else? How about her expenses?"
Doctor Henry asked again.

"I'm sorry Doc, I also asked that..but they said it was not covered by the school. And they immediately cut the line. I tried to call them, but they did not answer." Nurse Cath apologetically said.

Doc Henry's brow furrowed more.

"How about the reporters? They pop out to cover it as a news right?"

"Yes, Doc. I think...it was on the first day when three reporters from different news stations want to do a coverage about the accident...but, after that day, no news came out. But we made sure to give them the details."

"No, follow up?"

"Yes, Doc. They did not call afterward. But they said on the first day that they will come back again to interview her relatives about the hit and run..." Nurse Cath's confusion raised to level three.

Doctor Henry nodded.

"I understand now." then he looked at the girl in the bed.

"Too bad, it happened on a teenager like her."

And with that, their conversation ended and they left the room. Leaving me startled behind.

"What do you understand? I don't understand! Heck! Can somebody tell me what's going on?!" I screamed at no one.

Mind you, being alone here with your body for weeks will surely make you crazy. And it added to my frustrations that I don't remember a thing.

I paced back and forth in the room to think of a plan of what should I do. I thought back to what Ms. Cath said. She said that the school could not give my information...the school could not give my information...the school...

The school!

"Yeah! I should go to school! Maybe I can find something there!" I clapped my hands.

I penetrated through the door and walked into the hallway.

This floor has eight isolation rooms. My room is at the end. I need to pass by the seven rooms to go downstairs. All of the rooms except the first room near the stairs are not occupied.

I know it because when I was bored at night I check the remaining rooms on this floor. I only wonder on this floor because I'm afraid to go far away from my body.

What if my body starts waking up without me around? And another soul occupied my body? I know it sounds crazy but my whole existence as a ghost made everything possible. Experiencing the unusual in real time made me think that there were supernatural beings around like me.

And in worst-case scenario, if my body got stolen away from me, then that would be my eternal loss.

I walked until I reached the stairs. But then I stopped and was startled.

There was a boy sitting on a staircase. He was probably in my age. He was hugging his knees and his head was buried in his arms. He wore a hospital gown and he looked really pitiful.

But I'm not a busybody. ( ←_← She's being sarcastic here) So I'm not gonna ask what's he's doing and why he is here. I held myself to not blurt those questions out.

With the intention of being polite and being a courteous young lady, I said,
"Excuse me."

I did not sound it with a question mark right?

The boy moved a little to the corner with the same posture. His head was still buried on his knees. I stepped and passed by him.

I held my self to not stick my nose on other people's business. I mean, dang, I'm so bored to death. Boredness was a strong aspect that could make people crazy and do things they usually don't do. For example, following this boy around and be noisy in his life.

So like a mantra, I spoke to myself,  I wouldn't ask, I wouldn't ask.

I stepped a couple of stairs, passed by him when I suddenly stopped.

Realization dawned upon me.

Did I saw it right? Did he just...moved? Did he hear me?

I slowly turn around to confirm.

But he was gone.
