Perhaps it took too much time for Noah to react, but once he shook off the initial shock and the weight of his careless actions, he stormed out of his office and took off.
He didn't acknowledge the pack members in his way as Noah ran towards the stairs and up to the second floor. Noah thought the only place where he could find Olivia had to be her bedroom, but once he reached the door and kicked it open, he couldn't do as much as sense her presence.
The room was neat and clean, but empty. If Olivia came here to grab her belongings, she had to leave some mess behind because Noah knew she would rush to get out.
Moments later, Enzo stood behind him and scanned the room the same as Noah did. They didn't speak or share their thoughts, staring blankly at the room.
Noah gulped and stepped inside to check if anything was missing. He was one of the few people who knew Olivia better than anyone else, and whenever she had to go somewhere, there was a handful of things she would always take with her.
Yet, the suitcase on the floor and family photos on the nightstand were still there. Noah approached her bookcase and pulled out the massive red leather book to check it. The photo was there. Olivia wouldn't leave without it.
As carefully as he could, Noah closed the book and slid it back in place before he turned around to face Enzo. "We need to find her. Olivia wouldn't leave without that photo, so she must be hiding. Gather the men; we need to find her, and, fuck, I need to beg for her forgiveness," he slid his fingers through his hair and groaned.
How could he act without thinking? No, since when was he so fucking stupid to act on instinct rather than think about the consequences? If he didn't go so far, if only he didn't stoop so low and didn't mark her, they could have had a chance to start over. But no, Noah knew he had messed up, and if he didn't act to fix his wrongdoings, he might lose Olivia for good.
"On it, Alpha," Enzo muttered and left Noah behind. At least that much was settled; Enzo remembered his place and knew how to follow the commands without asking unnecessary questions. Good.
In the moment of panic, Noah even dropped to the floor and checked under her bed, just in case she tried to hide under their noses. To his great disappointment, she wasn't there. At least no one witnessed how stupid Noah looked while he tried to look for Olivia.
Once he got back to his feet, Noah checked every spot around Olivia's room, looking for proof of her possible whereabouts. If she left, she had to take something with her. No matter how emotional or angry Olivia was at him, she wouldn't leave without money or her papers.
Snooping around like a criminal, Noah found a few useful hints. First of all, Olivia didn't leave her wallet behind, which means she had her ID and some money.
She could have gone to the nearest town, there, Olivia could rent a room in a motel, but that didn't sound like her. His parents had taught Olivia about the dangers women encounter in the world, especially if they're alone, and with no combat training, she wouldn't risk her life like that.
Noah sat on her bed and took a deep breath. He was obsessed with Olivia's scent as it was, but now that he stood before the risk of losing it for good, he wanted to take in as much as possible.
As his eyes scanned the small room, the realisation hit him. Jumping to his feet, Noah ran out of the room and headed downstairs to check if the men had gathered.
Once his eyes located Enzo, Noah stomped to him and pulled his Beta aside. "Her wallet and ID are missing; she might try to go back to England. Is there anyone who has access to her cards or the damn airport systems? Anything works, whatever I can get, but I need to know where she is."
Enzo's eyes darted everywhere but at Noah as he spoke. "Listen, Noah, if she's heading to England, you don't think that-"
Noah growled, cutting Enzo off mid-sentence. He refused to listen to whatever his best friend was about to ask. Olivia had to be by his side, their life couldn't go on any different, and everyone who thought Noah had to give up could fuck off.
Acknowledging that he made a mistake was Noah's first step toward redeeming himself. All he had to do was to find her, apologise, somehow prove that he could be better, and then they could live happily ever after.
"Don't you ever think of finishing that sentence," Noah whispered. He felt beyond pissed, especially since his Beta kept challenging him, but he didn't want his pack member to see the disagreements between the two men who were supposed to work side by side for the better future of their people.
Enzo raised his hands and took one step back. "Alright, man, calm down. We will find her. I already sent the patrols out to check the borders; some warriors are checking the upper floors of the packhouse and the ground floors. I have a few men sent out to her favourite locations or at least those I'm aware of, and the pack members know they must report to us if they saw her after the ceremony."
Noah didn't speak; he had nothing to say to anyone until Olivia was back in his arms, safe and sound.
Enzo shook his head and looked past Noah. "With all due respect, Alpha, I don't believe she left for England or the pack. After what happened on that stage, she had to be too tired to move, let alone run. Maybe she had her wallet with her all the time, and we didn't notice because we never thought of checking her pockets. My guess is that she's asleep in one of the ground floor bedrooms."
Standing there and arguing wouldn't do him any good. As an Alpha, Noah had to show everyone an example, and boy, what an example was he setting for his people now?
He shook his head to get rid of the taunting thoughts before they overtook him. He thanked Enzo for the support and praised his ability to deal with the situation before he walked towards the main door.
The men who gathered around Enzo would follow the Beta's commands, but in the meantime, Noah could check a few places himself, and if the attempts ended in no success to find Olivia, at least his mind would be busy with other things.
The first spot Noah picked was the old swings next to the oak tree Olivia had admired since the day she first found it. Noah could track back so many great memories of the days they spent next to the tree, hiding in the shadow it created and daydreaming about their future.
He couldn't understand himself anymore. When did the things between them change so badly? In the beginning, Noah wasn't happy about Olivia's arrival because she took the attention of his parents away from him, but it wasn't for long until they started getting along.
Noah could remember the first time he thought of his parent's adoptive daughter as beautiful. Up to that day, Olivia was annoying, whiny and overall unwanted, but all of a sudden, his brain flashed the word beautiful.
He never found the courage to admit it to her. Noah tried to keep men away from her, and each time he wanted to show his affection, he teased Olivia like a freaking school boy.
Noah didn't notice how fast he reached the old tree, the same as he was unable to hide the disappointment he felt at the empty swing. He sat down as if he had all-time in the world and sighed. Olivia used to love this place, one of the last times they spent the day together sitting under it, she had voiced her hopes and dreams of them, never living apart.
Noah pictured the look of admiration and adoration in her eyes each time she called him brother. The thought alone sent him over the edge.
"Fuck!" He hissed, jumping up from the swing.
He didn't want to be the brother; he desired to be more, to become her everything.
Just because she didn't know they weren't siblings didn't mean Noah had no right to fall for the girl who just appeared out of nowhere. Alright, nobody told him directly that he had no right to fall for her, but that's how it felt when Olivia looked at him as if he had committed a crime.
And this place, once the epicentre of their happy days, now felt like another rock on Noah's shoulders. He couldn't stay around any longer, so he stomped towards the next possible location.
His parents had built a small cabin close to the massive oak tree. Since Olivia had loved that place so much, Noah's late father decided he could do some woodwork and provide a tiny house for the kids to spend nights at if they wanted. Obviously, he always sent the guards to stay near, just in case, but even their presence didn't make the nights less magical.
Noah followed the old trail, thinking how much he missed those nights and fearing they would never happen again. He and Olivia used to love to sit next to the campfire and share secrets.
Funny, really, how Noah recalled the events Olivia couldn't remember. There weren't that many happy moments, but the ones that were real were something he cherished every day.
Especially during the Alpha training. His days in that damn military-style camp were awful; the only thing that kept him afloat was the thought of returning home to Olivia. Sure, Noah knew she wasn't home during his absence, but that didn't mean she wouldn't return.
She did return, and in a blink of an eye, Noah fucked up any chance he had at having anything.
By the time he had checked the cabin and once again found nothing, Noah understood he couldn't torment himself with more happy memories and headed back to the packhouse.
If Olivia was near, someone had already found her, possibly sleeping, just like Enzo guessed. If she left, the men most likely ran into someone who saw her leaving. Either way, there had to be an update on the situation and the only reason no one mind-linked Noah was that they feared him. Right now, he wasn't himself, so no one risked testing his patience.
Noah's heart beat faster with each step he took closer to the building. He wanted to see Olivia, to have a chance to explain himself and beg for another chance if he were lucky enough.
The men were gathering in front of the packhouse, which had to mean someone saw or found Olivia. When Noah approached them, Enzo jumped in front of the crowd. "We have someone who saw her about an hour ago. The men are bringing him here."
Noah nodded and kept silent. This wasn't the moment to show others how on edge he was.
Thankfully, before Noah could bite his head off waiting, the man in question arrived along with two of the pack's warriors. "Alpha," he greeted Noah with a slight bow. "She left about an hour ago, I couldn't attend the ceremony, so I didn't know I had to hold her back. She crossed the border and headed towards old Landon's territory."
Now, only now, the realisation sunk in. Noah had thought he messed up earlier but had no idea to what extent. Olivia had walked into the enemy's arms, and Noah had no idea what to do next.
Her life, her future and every dream were ruined. Olivia had hoped that breaking the ties with the pack would free her, but the plan backfired in the worst way possible. She became damaged goods: a marked woman who ran away. No pack in their right mind would take her in now, and no man could ever look her way. And worst of all, Olivia knew that even if a pack took her in, they had to announce her arrival to the man who marked her. The chances of getting away from Noah were close to none, but that didn't mean she would give up. No, she wasn't the scared little girl anymore and knew better than to give Noah what he wanted. She would fight for her freedom. So, once she saw a chance, Oliva stormed to her room, grabbed her wallet and sneaked out the window. Noah had gone to his office and would probably discuss what he did with his best friend- Olivia intended to use every minute they wasted to her advantage. She loved Enzo. He was Noah's best friend, but he was nothing like the feral
Two days had gone by since the day Olivia escaped her worst nightmare and ran straight into the arms of another one. She couldn't believe how drastically her life had changed in a matter of a few days. If Noah's doings weren't enough, now, she awaited a trial. Yes, exactly, a darn trial about her future inside or outside the territory she was kept as a prisoner. The funniest part of the mess was that Olivia couldn't understand how a man with such an honourable reputation and name could be so mean. He didn't spare a moment to listen to her or even consider letting her explain what had happened. "So much for the sanctuary for the lost and forgotten," she whispered, pulling her knees to her chest. The cells were cold and smelled worse than some public toilets she had used back in England. Olivia sat on the ground, which didn't have as much as concrete to cover the dirt; her back was pressed against the rock wall, and her eyes were closed. After two days without water and food, her sto
He tried to find her. Noah tried more than he had ever before, and if anything his mother used to tell him was true, it mattered if he tried his best. Yet, each of his attempts to look for her ended up with him stuck facing a dead end. Olivia disappeared; she managed to fade into thin air without one lead to track her down. "God fucking damn it!" Noah screamed as he grabbed a photo frame and threw it against the wall. He went as far as to spread Olivia's photos across the nearby packs, and against every instinct he had, Noah sent them to Landon's territory. He hated the man with passion, but he was so desperate that he had to cave in. Never before in his life had Noah felt so powerless. He was sure Olivia couldn't leave him even if she wanted to, but he knew he had to know better. Since he could remember her entering his life, she had always been as stubborn and unmovable as a brick wall. After everything he had already done, Noah decided to fly to England. If Olivia had somewher
When Olivia woke up, the first thought that crossed her mind was that she had to be dead. How else would she end up in such a bright space and sleep on something that felt like a cloud under her body? The last time she had slept so peacefully was back in England while she lived with her aunt. The memories hurt her; it was nothing but a constant reminder of how fake her happiness was. Luna Mira was the only mother Olivia had known, and she loved the woman, but the connection she had with Anne was something out of this world. The woman Olivia had called her aunt for years became another mother figure. Olivia didn't notice how she teared up until the tears started sliding down her cheeks. An annoying beeping sound next to her became louder, which alerted someone in the room."Thank God you're awake. You gave us some serious scare," a smiling woman hovered over her. Noticing the gentle look in her eyes, Olivia couldn't hold back the need to hear Anne's voice. She needed the reassuremen
Olivia sat up in the bed as she kept gazing at the stranger standing before her. She wasn't sure if she had ever met him before, but the more she tried to come up with any instance she might have met him- there were none. Surely, she would remember a man as inhumanly handsome as this stranger. If she thought Noah looked like a demigod, this man had to be too close or even better looking than her fake brother. Olivia's eyes darted to the nurse, who picked up some papers from the nightstand, bowed and left the room. Only when the woman was gone did Olivia dare to look at the man again. Yep, still nothing. She had no idea who he was and how he knew her name. Arching an eyebrow, she cleared her throat and reminded herself she must remain polite to prove them a point. "My apologies, I feel sincerely bad for saying this, but I don't think we have ever met before, so I have no idea who you are, sir." The man flashed her a blinding smile and shook his head. "No need to apologise, Oli
Once the confession left her lips, Olivia wasn't sure what she feared more: the possibility of making Logan angry or him sending her back to Noah. Though Logan looked like a good man, she couldn't tell if he had any ulterior motives when it came to her. All her life, Olivia had to be careful around people and hide her identity so that no one would think of using her against her parents. But then again, Logan knew who she was, and it didn't look like he needed more money than he had, so Olivia dared to assume he wouldn't act like this was some kidnapping case. Come to think of it, that was something she had to find out: how did Logan know who she was? Her parents had a habit of hiding her because of her unique looks, so there weren't many people who knew Olivia existed. Logan had an expression on his face that Olvia couldn't read, yet when he muttered 'so that's why', she had to question him. "Logan, may I ask how you know who I am? And what's why?" Olivia raised an eyebrow but t
Landon led the way as his son followed in his footsteps. The old Alpha knew he had little to no power over the pack and his son after he handed down the title, but this wasn't a matter of power play. There was no way he would measure dicks with his son to decide which one of them was more powerful or wiser. Landon could bet his head on one thing: his son was a competent and reasonable Alpha. Logan didn't utter a word. He knew better than to confront his father out in the open. The hospital wasn't the right place to start something none wanted to finish, so both men had only one goal in mind- the office. And as they got closer, Logan couldn't shake off the feeling that something was terribly wrong. Though he tried to guess what it might be, Logan didn't believe the issue could be pack-related. No matter how desperately he tried to grasp on anything but Olivia's involvement in the issue his father might discuss, Logan couldn't. His father hadn't been acting like himself since Olivia
"You can resign from your position as the Beta once we get back home," Noah announced with zero emotions lacing his words. Enzo stood behind him while Anne gaped at him in panic. Noah was sure both of them expected he would blow up and go absolutely bonkers, but he didn't, which was why the tension between them was thick enough to be cut before their eyes. Anne shifted her weight on her feet, acting as if Noah's emotionless gaze burned her skin, but he didn't care. His aunt, the only sibling of his dead mother, had chosen where her loyalty stood, and it wasn't where it should be. As harsh as the words sounded in his mind, Noah had to voice them before he lost the courage. "You're out, Anne. For good." His aunt gulped as her eyes widened. She didn't need more explanations of what he meant, but Anne didn't expect Noah would go that far. Yet, then again, she didn't expect he would fly to England in hopes of finding Olivia either. "You can't," she whispered, trying to catch on his b
She fought back. Olivia tried her best to get out of the vicious claws of the rogues, but none of the men bothered to release her. At one point, she decided that maybe, if she screamed loud enough, someone could overhear her and try to help her, but the plan failed once the rogues stuffed her mouth with a dirty rag. Olivia’s eyes filled with tears. Not because of the men that were kidnapping her but because she barely resisted the intense urge to vomit her insides out. Trashing and any type of resistance didn’t help her case, so she gave up. For the time being. Wasting her energy was pointless, so she tried to think of a plan. Deep down, she hoped Noah would get to the place where she met the rogues soon. If he caught on their awful stench, there was a hope he might follow them and save her. Wasn’t that funny? The very man she escaped and tried to avoid was the only person who could save her from the monsters that were carrying her God knew where. Olivia tried to follow her surr
Noah couldn't believe what was happening. As much as he wanted to call Olivia dumb, he couldn't. Yet, he also couldn't understand what was happening in her mind. Olivia was supposed to hate him, to despise everything he did and said. She had to stay away from him. Wasn't that the purpose of everything he did? Wasn't Noah trying his best to stay away from her? He wouldn't mind spending another couple of months in the cabin just to ensure that she was comfortable in the place she once called her home.If his parents were still alive and knew anything about the mess he had created, they would most likely disown him. And the worst part was that Noah couldn't forgive himself. He had gone above and beyond and did everything in his power just to hurt Olivia. He was thrashing through the cabin, looking for the things he needed before he left, while the memories of his parents and their love for Olivia assaulted his mind. She was his father's favourite. Olivia was the daughter he never had
Olivia was livid. She never thought of Noah as someone irresponsible, despite how egoistic and stupid he used to act. But now, he was a complete dick, knew it, acknowledged it, and yet, refused to drop the act of stupidity. When she stormed out of the packhouse, she was surprised to notice that Enzo wasn’t following hot on her heels. No, this time, he let her do whatever she wanted. As she crossed the nearby field children used as a football field, the pack members approached her to voice their gratitude for her returning to them. At first, Olivia stood aside, shocked, wondering why all those people were so happy to see her back, but she didn’t have to wait for long until the answers to her silent questions spilt from the pack members. Apparently, their Alpha had lost his mind once he understood Olivia was gone. Noah had sent multiple patrols out to look for her and went to unclaimed lands himself, fearing that she headed there. The fool risked his life to find her while O
A new day could be seen as a new adventure. Or at least that was what Noah’s mother claimed when he was a child. Although Noah did his best to believe those words, to try to see the world through the eyes of the woman who raised him – it didn’t work. There were no adventures, just self-doubt and hatred. During the time he spent in the cabin, Noah used the chance to reflect on his decisions. For the most part, he was sure things he did were done for the right reasons and always brought good for others. But not for Olivia. What he did to her was for selfish reasons. Heat in the moment decision that might have cost him everything. She didn’t want to stay. She didn’t want to see Noah ever again. And yet, he tried to force her to stay. Initially, it didn’t work. The mark obviously meant nothing to her; it didn’t hold her back and hostage in his pack. She left without looking back, without thinking about the possible consequences or the effect it might have on her. That’s how desper
The only positive change in Olivia’s life was Enzo. She missed her friend more than she thought, and now that he stood near, the realisation slowly sank in. It took days, but once she adapted to the life in her previous pack, Olivia started leaving the bedroom more often and even offered her help to the cooks and maids. As she stood in the laundry room and folded warrior shirts, someone nudged her side. A slight smile spread across her lips once she recognised the scent. Enzo. “Hey there, stranger,” she whispered, still focusing on the pile of clothes in front of her. Sometimes, she wondered why she didn’t meet Noah. Enzo was around her quite often, but the man who insisted she returned, didn’t appear anywhere near her. If anything, Olivia expected Noah would follow in her footsteps and ensure no one approached her, but the opposite happened. Everyone could walk up to her and start a conversation – even when some men became too friendly, Noah didn’t show his face. “I was thinki
Noah knew he was acting like a selfish bastard, but he couldn’t do anything to change how he felt or viewed things, no matter how hard he tried. Especially Olivia. Every time he looked at her, he felt the pull he couldn’t resist and after the run-in with the witch, the need to protect her grew thousand times more intense. Judging by the look on her face and her cold attitude, Olivia wasn’t happy about returning home, but Noah couldn’t allow that bastard Logan to flaunt his Luna as a shiny new toy. Olivia couldn’t know how that man was, how he acted or anything about his true antics, but Noah knew enough. Women came and went to Logan, he never bothered about anyone’s feelings until his were hurt. Noah felt sorry for Logan at times for the man had lost his rightful Luna, but while his father kept hiding his son’s doings, Noah witnessed more than once how easy it was for Logan to jump from one bed to another. If he didn’t know better, Noah would claim Logan never really mourned the
Olivia knew who the owner of the voice was even before she stepped away from Logan and turned around to face Noah. She had thought Noah left because of her sudden appearance or perhaps he felt hurt by the lies he had been told over the time. But he didn’t have the right to blame her. He drove her away, encouraged her to leave and marked her just to mock her for the newfound rogue role and her inability to stay away. Olivia proved she was more than capable to stay away from him. It was Noah who broke, it was Alpha Black who wasn’t capable of accepting defeat. Yet, against her best judgement, the only thoughts in Olivia’s mind were excuses she should give Noah. A part of her knew it was the worst idea ever to justify her actions or claim she had no feelings for Logan, which would be true, but the other part still wanted to watch Noah suffer. After all those years of mockery and bullying, he was getting what karma prepared for him, so Noah shouldn’t think he had the right to complain
Olivia couldn’t explain why her eyes sought out Noah for the rest of the evening even if she tried to. Her actions were like an instinct. The look on his face when she noticed Noah wasn’t anything Olivia thought she would see. Years ago, she would feed herself delusional ideas about her brother, missing her and being happy to see her. But now, she expected anger and resentment. None of those she saw. Hurt? Yes. Regret? Perhaps a hint of it. But what stood out the most was how miserable Noah looked. If she didn’t know better, Olivia would claim her supposed-to-be brother looked like someone who didn’t think he was worthy of standing under the same roof as her. “Olivia?” Logan’s voice startled her out of her thoughts, and her cheeks immediately turned bright red as she realised Logan’s eyes weren’t the only ones set on her. “Sorry,” she muttered. “I don’t feel good,” Olivia lied. She had no other choice but to come up with a bad, but believable lie. What would Logan and the othe
Noah followed the woman out of the building and closer to the woods. Deep down, he knew he might make the worst mistake of his lifetime, but what was one mistake compared to the mess he had already created? From the moment when her eyes met Noah’s, he knew Olivia was gone. The Olivia he knew, loved, and obsessed over was gone. In the place of the beautiful, cheerful, unreal fairy of a person stood a woman unknown to Noah. It wasn’t just the appearance that had changed, it was the aura that surrounded Olivia.Though under different circumstances Noah would assume the change was created by his doings, by the mark he left on her neck, he knew that wasn’t the case. Life wasn’t about him, the world didn’t revolve around him, and it was about time for Noah to accept as much. The woman in front of him started hissing something under her breath, pulling Noah out of the void of his thoughts. He didn’t pay much mind to her words until a particular one caught his attention. “Excuse you?” Noah
