Chapter 41 : Darius’s Wish

Darius ~

Last night I saw someone in our territory next to the river where Eris used to play.

I immediately ran to see who it was, hoping it would be Eris, but I was wrong.

The minute I got there, I saw a tall man with strangely red hair looking for something. As if he had lost an important piece.

Keeping my eyes on him, not letting him go out of my sight, the man vanished like magic in a thin air.

Maybe he found something he was looking for?

I couldn’t shake my suspicion, so I went back there again to see if I could find him.

The air was crisp, and the forest was unusually still when I spotted him again—the same tall man with fiery red hair, standing just at the edge of the riverbank.

His back was turned, but I knew it was him. This time, I wasn’t letting him slip away.

I stepped out from behind the trees, my eyes narrowed as I approached. He didn’t seem startled by my presence, as if he had been expecting me.

“You’re in my territory,” I growled, givi

Every now and then, she’d glance at Kaya, then quickly look away as if guilty of something. What the hell happened between them? I could smell his scent all over her. Drax also stirred inside me, he was restless.‘There’s a possibility that Eris spent the night with him...’ Drax growled in my mind. I clenched my fists. Did they...? No. Eris wasn’t the type to fall into someone’s arms after just one night. At least, I didn’t think she was. But then again, everything felt so uncertain now.I glanced at Kaya. He had that smug grin on his face, the kind that made me want to knock his teeth in. And Eris... she wouldn’t even meet his eyes. What the hell was going on?With

My legs buckled, but I forced myself to stay upright. I wouldn’t fall. Not now. Not yet. Not in front of him."Mom," I whispered, but it came out broken, strangled. It didn’t sound like my voice. It didn’t feel like me anymore. Her body—no, no, it wasn’t real—just lay there, still. I waited for her to move, to blink, to breathe. But she didn’t. I reached out, my hand trembled, barely brushing her skin. It was cold. So cold.“Mom!” I screamed inside, but the words didn’tI screamed inside, but no sound came out. Let me tear him apart.’ Her tone was more than a suggestion; it was a command.I closed my eyes, feeling the familiar pull, the way my bones itched to shift, to become something stronger, faster. I couldn’t let him take me. Not like this. Not while Samuel and Kaya were being torn apart.“Fine,” I muttered steadily.“What was that?” Darius asked, yanking me harder.“You want me to fight?” I said louder, my lips curled into a smile. “Then let’s fight!”In an instant, I shifted. Fur exploded from my skin, my bones cracked and twisted, and I became the wolf. I became Seven.Darius barely had time to react before I lunged at him with bared fangs. I sank my teeth into his shoulder, drawing blood. “Arghh!” He roared in pain, but I didn’t stop. I slashed at him with my claws, swiping at his chest, his

Kaya ~I don’t know what I was thinking. Was I too ignorant, believing I could defeat an entire clan on my own? Too greedy to think I could protect Eris and make her mine forever? It took me and Samuel twenty-four hours just to get up and start looking for her. We had no choice. Our legs were weak, our necks still bleeding, covered in dried blood. Every breath was shaky, but we only had one goal—to save Eris.Darius hadn’t faced me directly again since the last time we fought. He knew better. But he had the upper hand now. He had her. How did he know we were in his territory? How did he find out we were going to save Eris’s mother?Eris…We had buried her mother. It wasn’t a proper burial for a Luna, but it was the best we could do. It was better than leaving her there, exposed, to be taken by crows and letting rot on the ground.“I’m sorry, Eris,” I whispered into the night. “We failed. I failed.”“Keep going. I can smell her. She’s near.”Samuel’s voice destroyed the silence. Hi

At least now, they could be together—forever. But the ache in my chest didn’t ease. Nothing could ease this.Kaya stood across from me with a blank face, but I could see the storm raging behind his eyes. Neither of us said a word. We didn’t need to. The silence said it all—we had failed her.I wiped the dirt from my hands, my body was numb from exhaustion and grief. I was ready to leave. Ready to go home. What else was there to do? She was gone. All I could think about was mourning her in silence, away from all this madness.“I’m taking her home,” I said quietly, breaking the stillness. The words tasted bitter in my mouth. “To my kingdom. We would give her a proper funeral, with my people.”Kaya’s head snapped up, his eyes narrowed immediately. “No, Samuel. She stays here. She belongs with her mother, and with my people.”I cl

His jaw tightened, so rigid I thought he might snap. The air in the room was like a fog, thick with tension, anger was coming off of him like heat from a wildfire."You killed her," he snarled in a low voice. "You killed her right in front of Eris! Julie’s blood is on your hands, Darius!" He slammed his fist again, harder this time, the wood cracked beneath his fingers.I met his eyes, heart pounded faster, but I refused to flinch. I wouldn’t give him that satisfaction to make me look weaker and scared in front of him.“She’s dead because of you!” His voice climbed higher now, trembling from rage and grief. "And Eris? You brought her back half-dead…do you even see what you’ve done?"I clenched my fists, nails dug into my palms. “I did what I had to do, Father. You don't understand. A perfect little prize.‘She’s ours now,’ Hunter growled in my mind, his words slithered through my thoughts. ‘Take her. Make her beg for you.’I pushed the door open, the creak of it echoed down the hallway behind me. The room was lit only by a single candle on the far side. And there she was, Eris, sitting on the floor, wrists bound to the wall, her eyes half-closed.When she looked up at me, those sharp, defiant eyes of hers still had a spark. He didn’t even look at me as he fled from the room, slamming the door behind him.Silence fell, heavy, suffocating...I stared at Augustin…My palms were clammy and I clenched them, not from fear, but anger. It sounded sharp, unnatural. At first, no one reacted. We all thought it was nothing. But then she coughed again, and this time, blood spilled from her mouth. My heart stopped.“Leina!” I shouted, pushing through the crowd. I didn’t think. I just ran.She collapsed before I could reach her. Tessa tried to catch her, but she wasn’t fast enough. Leina hit the ground, hard. I should have felt stronger today, of all days. It was my last day as Luna, the day I would officially pass on the title to Tessa. But something was wrong. I could feel it deep in my bones. May had been silent for days now. She wasn’t responding to my calls, and it worried me more than I wanted to admit. • Not Today, Alphas!    The Poisonous Throne

Chapter 61: The Poisonous ThroneAugustin~I closed the door to Darius’s chambers, the smile faded from my face the moment I stepped into the dark hallway. That boy had no idea how much he teetered on the edge of failure. He was too blinded by his anger, too easily manipulated by the words of a girl. A mere girl, yet he let her slip through his grasp again and again. Pathetic. But then, weakness ran in the family, didn’t it?I walked down the cold stone corridor, my boots clicked against the floor, echoing in the emptiness. As I rounded the corner, my mind drifted back to where it all started. Eris’s father. The proud, noble alpha who ruled with strength and fairness. A fool, blinded by loyalty and love.“Too trusting,” I whispered, feeling the bile rise in my throat at the thought of him. He never saw it coming, never suspected that his own ally—his friend—was the one poisoning him from the inside.‘He was a fool,’ Hamex growled in my head, his dark tone always brought a bitter t

Chapter 60: The Hunter’s WrathDarius~The air in my chambers was suffocating me from failure. I paced back and forth, my fists clenched so tightly my knuckles ached. She had escaped again. Again. I slammed my hand against the stone wall, the impact went through my arm, but it did nothing to calm the tornado inside me.“How could this happen?” I growled through gritted teeth. “How could no one find her?”‘Weak,’ Hunter snarled in my mind, rumbling. ‘You let her slip through your fingers. Again.’I could feel him prowling, his claws itched to tear something apart, anything that would make this unbearable feeling of failure go away. He had been restless ever since Eris disappeared into the snow. Every attempt to track her had come up empty, and it was driving both of us to the edge.“She can’t have gone far,” I muttered, though to whom, I wasn’t sure. I raked a hand through my hair, the strands sticking with sweat. “We’ll find her. We have to find her.”‘You better,’ Hunter growled.

I could feel it. The hair on the back of my neck stood on end, and a low growl rumbled in my throat.‘We’re not alone,’ Seven warned in my head, her voice tensed.I turned, scanning the trees, trying to find the source of the feeling. My eyes locked onto a shadow moving between the trunks. It was quick, but I saw it. My growl grew louder, and I bared my teeth.“Show yourself,” I commanded.A person stepped out from behind the trees. It was as if the bruise had formed with purpose, as if someone—or something—had placed it there.I flexed my fingers, trying to get rid of the feeling crawling up my spine. I had healed quickly from the torture of Darius faster than I should have, even for someone like me.
