Claire Dalton bit back a moan of disgust as the three men who’d spent the last two hours harassing her off and on in The Honey Trap, the bar where she mostly worked in the kitchen but occasionally couldn’t get out of cleaning or serving table when they were busy, appeared behind the business. She was throwing out the trash and heading home for the night and steeled herself for another moment of torment.
She didn’t feel truly afraid. They just seemed cruelly fascinated with the scars down one side of her face and neck.
“Hey, cutie,” said the biggest one with a snicker. He must’ve thought he was clever and witty.
She crossed her arms over her chest and glared at them. “I’m off shift, so leave me alone.”
“You don’t have to be so touchy,” said the second one. He looked similar to the first, though a slightly smaller copy. She suspected the dark-haired men were related in some way.
“I do, because you’ve done nothing but harass me for the last two hours when I was forced to wait on your table. I just want to go home and be left alone.”
“I think you have some potential,” said the first one again. “What do you think, George?”
The third one, who hadn’t said anything before then, looked at her. “Ehh, she might be worth a pity fuck. She’s got a nice body. I guess it depends on how far down the scars go.”
Claire stiffened as a hint of fear started to permeate her. She was used to bullies and callously thoughtless people, but this was a different turn, one she hadn’t encountered before. “I have no need for any kind of pity from anyone.” She tried to keep her tone strong and angry. “Now get out of my way.”
Unfortunately, they were blocking the exit around the building. Her only other option was to turn and walk down the alleyway, and though it was only a short distance until it merged with a side street, she wasn’t about to do that with them harassing her. “I’ll scream if I have to.”
“We just want to make you feel good,” said the middle one. He sounded sincere, but there was a leer in his gaze and a strong hint of morbid curiosity. It was obvious he was interested in her, but not because he wanted to get to know her personally. Perhaps he just wanted to cross screwing the scarred chick off his bucket list.
“I just want you to leave me alone.”
The biggest one took a step forward. “Don’t be like that. Come have a drink with us. We’ll go back to my place.”
“I’d rather be dead,” said Claire more emphatically than she’d intended. She didn’t actually mean it, but the idea of voluntarily going anywhere with the three of them to meet whatever definition they considered partying left her ill.
The middle one scowled at her. “What right do you have to be like that? We’re extending kindness your way, and you’re treating us like crap for it? Maybe someone should teach you a lesson.”
“Or maybe someone should teach you a lesson,” said a cold voice behind the three men. They stiffened slightly and turned. As they did so, she caught a glimpse of Bodie Walsh. She’d seen him come into the bar earlier that evening, but she hadn’t had to wait on him, and she preferred it that way. To her knowledge, he had no idea who she was or that they had met a few times in the past, and she would like to keep it that way.
She was still relieved to see him, especially when the posture of the one who didn’t look like the other two changed. George was his name, she reminded herself. He immediately became more submissive, making her wonder if he was a wolf-shifter. If not, he must have good instincts and was picking up the shifter pheromones Bodie exuded. Or maybe he was just a coward in general.
“Mind your own business,” said the big one.
“Maybe we should get out here, Ted,” said the one who looked like his brother. He sounded a little anxious.
Ted shot his companion a glance full of surprise. “Can’t you count? It’s one against three.”
The other one still shuddered. “He seems like trouble. We don’t really want trouble just for something like her, do we?”
“No, you don’t want my kind of trouble,” said Bodie in a frigid tone.
Claire wasn’t certain if the others noticed it, being human and unaccustomed to the ways of shifters, but she saw the way his eyes darkened and flashed with a hint of anger for an instant. It was enough to send a chill down her spine even though he was defending her.
“I figured tonight would either be the kind of night where I’d fuck or fight, and maybe it’ll be both,” said Ted as he cracked his knuckles and shrugged his shoulders in a menacing fashion.
Claire caught her lower lip between her teeth, feeling a surge of anxiety. Bodie was a shifter, but was he strong enough to go up against all three of them? She was on the verge of indecision, her mouth poised to scream for help. She had no doubt Saul would immediately come running, but it would bring others too, and she had no desire to have people witnessing the drama unfolding.
“Have it your way.” Bodie moved with grace and faster than a human should. George seemed to realize there was something off about it, and the middle brother trembled as well, but the oldest one was either too drunk or stupid to be aware of the shift in Bodie. Before he even had a chance to react, Bodie was standing in front of him. He picked up the big man by his throat, holding him a few inches off the ground even though Ted was bigger and looked stronger than he was. He started tightening his hand. “Is that enough fight for you, or should I keep going?”
Ted said something, but it was impossible to make out because of the way his throat was being constricted.
“Please let him go,” said the one who seemed like his brother. “We’ll just go. We won’t cause any more trouble.”
“First, you need to apologize to the lady.” Bodie continued to hold Ted seemingly without effort as he glared at the other two.
George immediately turned and looked at her, though he didn’t quite meet her gaze. “I’m sorry. We were just having fun.”
“It was a true blast for me as well,” she said in a tight, angry tone. “I love how my scars can bring you amusement.”
Rather than just fear, there appeared genuine shame in his expression as he looked down at his feet. “I really am sorry. I was drinking and let stupidity get the best of me.”
She nodded at him, not really accepting his apology, but not wishing to prolong the situation either. After a glance at Bodie, who nodded his head sharply, George took off.
The middle one was still standing, but he looked indecisive. He was clearly aware his brother’s face was turning redder by the moment, and he issued a hasty, “I’m sorry,” to her, though he didn’t really look at her.
Again, she just wanted it to be over now, so she shrugged.
He seemed unwilling to leave without his brother, so after a moment, Bodie lowered Ted to his feet and took a step back, but he looked ready to spring into action again if need be. “I believe you owe her an apology.” His tone brooked no argument.
“Sorry,” said Ted thickly, probably through a swollen trachea. With the help of his brother, the two of them quickly rushed from the back of the bar.
“Thank you,” said Claire with sincerity after a pause, when it seemed like they wouldn’t be returning. “I wasn’t sure I’d be able to handle them all without calling Saul.” He was an older man, quite large, and intimidating to boot. He kept a rifle over the bar and another in the back room for such situations, and he had a stash of silver bullets if the need arose. She knew he would’ve come to her rescue, but it would’ve cost her the expense of any remaining privacy.
“I’m glad I could help.”
He hadn’t even had to shift to his wolf form to truly intimidate the men. She was impressed, but she tried not to reveal that. She didn’t want to come across as gauche or resurrecting the old crush she’d had on him once almost seven years ago. If he remembered her or Gracie, it was far more likely to be Gracie, who had been the beauty of the family, and that was even before Claire ended up scarred from the car accident.
“Let me give you a ride home to make sure you’re safe.” It was somewhere between a question and a command.
That’s okay.” With a deep breath, she stepped closer to the light, steeling herself for the moment he saw the full details of her scars from the lamppost nearby. It was usually enough to make anyone flinch.
She couldn’t help examining him closely as she waited for his response. His expression spasmed into one of shock for a second, but he regained control more quickly than most people. There seemed to be a hint of pity in his expression, which she hated. She hated when people felt sorry for her for the scars she bore. She certainly hated her scars, but perhaps she was the lucky one, because Gracie had died, so her sister was the one who truly deserved pity. Plus, it made her feel like less of a person when someone felt sorry for her for perceived inadequacies or shortcomings.
“What’s your name?”
She hesitated for a moment before giving it, not wanting to remind him of the previous connection between them. Not that it had been very much. Her sister had dated his older brother, and they’d interacted a few times before Claire became scarred. She decided her first name was common enough that it was unlikely to prompt any memory of her in his mind. “Claire.”
“I’m Bodie Walsh. Let me take you home,” he said again.
Her eyes widened at the idea, and she quickly shook her head. She could imagine her parents’ reaction to Bodie dropping her off if they saw it. She was an adult, but she needed to live with them for as long as she could to save money, wanting to fund the stem cell transplant that might be her only chance of regenerating enough tissue on her face to hide much of the damage from the fire when she’d been trapped in the car. She didn’t need the arguments or drama with her parents, so she shook her head again. “That’s not necessary.”
“I think it is. Those three could be lurking out there somewhere. Maybe they’d want to go after me, since I humiliated the big one, or maybe they’d still go after you. You’d be foolish to just walk off into the unknown like that. Now let me drive you home.” He spoke with quiet authority that was enough to send a shiver down her spine. He hadn’t been born expecting to be Alpha of the Northstar pack, but in that moment, she had no trouble believing he would be able to accept the responsibility even if he hadn’t been prepared until after Owen’s death.
“I don’t have a home.” She blurted out the explanation before she could think better of it, and then she nearly groaned. What kind of excuse was that to avoid having him drive her home? It sounded false to her ears, but he seemed to believe it, because his pity visibly deepened. It was grating on her nerves.
“I’m sorry to hear that. In that case, you should stay with me tonight.”
She took a step back. “I didn’t trade one unpleasant situation for another.” Even as she said it, she couldn’t help remembering how it had felt to be in Bodie’s arms even briefly, which still sent a shiver down her spine, and this one was not from fear. “I’m fine, really.”
“I’m not leaving you here without knowing you’re safe. So, you can either stay with me, or you can stand here in the parking lot all night while I watch you.” He seemed to assume she was going to accept his offer, which felt like a command.
Claire was still desperate to hide the secret of who she was and their connection, not eager to remind him she’d once been the gauche younger sister who had a crush on him that she’d been unable to hide. She also didn’t want to explain to him why she didn’t want him anywhere near her parents, who had become more and more extreme in their views against shifters in the years following Gracie’s death. Besides, she wasn’t certain how shifters felt about her either. Maybe they blamed Gracie and her for having been along with Owen when he had hit the jackknifing semi-trailer that night six years ago.
It didn’t make sense that they would blame her even indirectly, but it also didn’t make sense that her parents blamed shifters, yet they did. Grief had twisted them into having strange views, and she really didn’t want to face a group of shifters who might have the same awful views of her. On the other hand, going home with him seemed like a bad idea as well, but at least it would remove the need for conflict now.
With a grudging, “Thanks, I guess,” She followed him from the back of the bar a moment later. He directed her toward a large truck in gleaming black. She shouldn’t be surprised that the heir to the Northstar Alpha position drove such a vehicle, but it still made her queasy to get in. It wasn’t the automobile itself, but a lingering reaction she always had when having to ride in a car. Whenever possible, she preferred to walk or ride her bike. Even riding on the back of a motorcycle wasn’t quite as bad as being confined into a car after the horrific accident.
She hovered for a moment as he unlocked the door, and she slid in slowly. She took several deep breaths, trying to quell the urge to throw up and hide her distress from him at the same time. She hovered against the door, almost hugging it, as he got in to join her. He gave her a curious look for a moment and said, “Use your seatbelt.”
She nodded, hands fumbling. If she hadn’t been so overwhelmed with anxiety, it would’ve been the first thing for which she reached. Gracie had been foolish enough to remove her seatbelt so she could press closer to Owen during the drive, and she flew right through the windshield with the collision. Claire had woken up just in time to see that, followed seconds later by the sensation of the front of the car crushing into the back of the car, pinning her in place.
She blinked, struggling to forget that moment. It was never far from her mind, but she didn’t want to risk having an anxiety attack, and she certainly didn’t want to have to explain to him why she was so tense and worried about riding in his vehicle. It had to be the man himself who was triggering all the memories and emotions of that night, since he resembled Owen.
Thinking of her sister’s boyfriend made her wince again when she recalled the sharp cracking sound of his spine and the awkward angle of his neck as the car had crushed him against the tangled metal of the truck he’d been unable to avoid hitting.
“Are you all right?” He seemed truly concerned.
She blinked, shaking her head slightly, and looked at him. She was struggling to appear as normal as possible. “Yes. I guess I was just overwhelmed for a moment.” Let him think she was talking about the three jerks who’d harassed her and might’ve had other intentions. That was terrifying, but it couldn’t compete with the memory of the night she’d lost her older sister and been scarred for life.
3Claire was too keyed up from the kiss to even think about falling asleep or using the guestroom. Instead, she occupied herself with her phone until she figured enough time had passed that Bodie would be asleep in his own room. She didn’t want to be rude, but there was no reason for her to spend the night here. Before leaving, she used the Uber app to order a ride. Even in their backwater, there were a few drivers available, and she was relieved for it though she didn’t really want to get into a car again. It wasn’t like she could walk twenty miles on foot, and since she couldn’t shift into a wolf to run them either, she was stuck with that option. She waited until the app alerted her that the driver was almost there before tiptoeing out of his house. She thought about leaving a thank-you note or something, but she decided it was better to cut and run. The less time he had to think about her, the better. She still cringed at the idea of him recognizing her as Gracie’s little sister o
4She was in the back the next afternoon, grilling one of the first food orders of the day, since the bar/grill had only opened an hour or so ago, when the bell on the door tinkled. She looked up through the window that offered her a view of the front of house from the kitchen, groaning softly when she saw Bodie standing there. He eyed the room, perhaps looking for her, though maybe just deciding which seat to take.He had his pick of them, and he chose a round booth in the corner that allowed him a view of the whole bar, both the front door and the kitchen. She was certain he was there to check on her, and she wished she’d left a note to thank him and somehow make it clear she didn’t require any more assistance from him.She was startled as she placed the bratwurst on the plate less than a minute later, about to add the cabbage salad to the side, when Saul stuck his head through the swinging kitchen door and said, “Yo, get your butt out to the front, Dalton.”“Why?” He could hardly n
5“I could be wrong, but I think she might have a thing for you, Bodie,” said Jalen with a little smirk. “Didn’t she used to have a crush on you that she tried so hard to hide?”“Huh?” asked Liam.Bodie quickly reminded him of the past connection to Claire before answering Jalen. “She was just a kid.” He was feeling his hackles rise, but he didn’t want to argue with his cousins.“Her scars, man.” Liam winced and shook his head. Before Bodie could stop himself, he was halfway out of his seat. “If you say anything like that to her—”Liam leaned back, putting up his hands. If he’d been shifted, he probably would’ve taken on a submissive pose, but that was good enough. “Relax, Bodie. I was just commenting on how awful they are. She’s still beautiful.”“Stay the hell away from her,” said Bodie with a thick growl he couldn’t stop. For a moment, he was perilously close to letting out his wolf.Liam and Jalen exchanged glances, and they both sat quietly until Bodie had regained control and sa
6The back door opened then, making a slight screeching sound as Claire emerged. She wore a light jacket and carried a backpack, and in her other hand, she had a bag of trash. Bodie hurried over and lifted the lid on the dumpster for her, and she smiled, but she seemed a little bewildered. “So why are you here?”“We’re here to babysit you,” said Liam with a grin. Apparently, he realized Bodie’s wolf didn’t like that, because he quickly added, “Bodie was concerned about you, and we were just keeping him company.”Claire stiffened slightly, and Bodie couldn’t help noticing the way she had shifted her hair to cover most of her face. She looked at him, and only one of her eyes was fully exposed, but he could see a mixture of yearning and annoyance there. “I don’t need you to take care of me, Bodie. I’m not someone’s charity project.”He stiffened at the accusation. “It’s not like that. I want to make sure those scumbags don’t come back.”Claire shrugged a shoulder. “If they do, what’s the
7Claire couldn’t help but be nervous as she rode beside him in his truck. Her nerve endings were strung taut, and she was certain that if he said anything, she would jump in surprise and let out a startled squeal. So far, he seemed content to let her maintain silence, and she was trying to avoid saying anything that would make her seem gauche, moronic, or eager to be with him. He didn’t need to know that part was particularly true. She had little reason to be nervous, except if her parents saw him dropping her off at the house. It wasn’t like Bodie was suddenly going to jump on her. A strong surge of regret went through her as she had that realization, and then she acknowledged she’d been hoping for some indication that he cared about her as more than someone he pitied and was worried about after her near attack last night. In her mind, she couldn’t help imagining how it would be if he pulled over to the side of the road and suddenly jumped on her, pulling her into his arms. No doubt
8Bodie woke anticipating his date with Claire that night. He couldn’t help feeling like a teenager about to embark on his first date with a girl, though it had been quite a few years since he had experienced that sensation. He couldn’t even recall the name or really the face of the first girl he’d dated, but it’d only been the one date, so that was hardly surprising. It seemed like it would be forever before the day would end so he could pick up Claire at the appointed hour. By midmorning, he was scowling at the clock, annoyed by how slowly it seemed to be ticking past. His phone rang, diverting his attention from the offending timepiece, and he answered with the speakerphone on, so he didn’t have to pick it up. Ostensibly, he was working on pack business, but in truth, he was far too distracted to give it much consideration. “Hello?”“Bodie, can you stop by?”He nodded before answering his dad. “Sure. What time would you like me?”“The sooner the better,” said Duke with a hint of gr
9He entered the sheriff’s station, and it was a calm and quiet environment, similar to usual. It appeared that their front desk person wasn’t working that day, but that was hardly surprising. Claudia was usually part-time at best, since it was a quiet town that rarely required any major intercession. Sheriff Dillon Starr and Deputy Juno Lane, along with a third deputy, though that position was currently unfilled, managed to handle everything that arose in their town—everything except this unsettling matter, which was new to all of them.Juno looked up from her desk, which was positioned where she could greet people in case Claudia wasn’t available. She nodded to him and said, “The sheriff said you might stop by after he spoke with your father.”“It seemed like the thing to do. Were you the one who found the fliers, Juno?”The tall brunette stretched as she pushed back from her desk and came over to stand near him. “It wasn’t me. Gus was coming in to do cleaning at City Hall, and he’s
10It told him to get off on the third floor, and he stepped out several seconds later, following his senses until he saw Gus mopping the floor of Courtroom B. He opened the door, having glimpsed him through the window in the door, and said, “Gus, do you have a minute?” To his surprise, the old shifter didn’t answer. He supposed he could be getting hard of hearing, but his senses should at least alert him that he wasn’t alone in the room.He stepped inside, waving the door a little to allow his pheromones to better disperse. A second later, Gus stiffened and turned to him, and he was smiling. He was also wearing wireless headphones, which explained why he hadn’t heard Bodie’s greeting even with his refined wolf senses. They must be getting dull with age, but the man was still competent and moving around. He came closer to Bodie, still moving the mop as he walked. “What can I do for you, young fella?”Bodie was amused at that, considering himself far from a young fella as he neared thi
35His mouth moved lower, changing from nuzzling her neck to nipping downward until he reached one of her breasts. He drew it to him and sucked on the plump, unscarred nipple, making her moan and writhe. His other hand lifted to cup her left breast, tugging very lightly at the overly sensitive nipple and in opposition to the rhythm his mouth set. It was maddening but exciting, and she shifted restlessly under him as he worshiped her breasts. When his mouth went lower, she held her breath, feeling just a hint of anxiety at allowing him in such an intimate place when he was more shifter than human tonight, but she quelled any tension at the thought when he started licking her.He wasn’t at all gentle. He was rough and frantic, swiping her with his tongue so quickly it almost seemed like he couldn’t get enough and was afraid someone would take away his treat before he finished. She almost laughed at the idea, but she was incapable of sustaining amusement for long, so consumed by emotions
34The moon was full and bright overhead, which was required for a mating ceremony. They’d had a much smaller wedding at the Caliper Courthouse earlier in the day. A few of their friends had joined them, though they were mostly Bodie’s friends. No one in his inner circle had repudiated Claire, except for perhaps his parents, who were still stiff with her. They’d remained true to their word though, and they hadn’t said anything against the match when it was announced to their people and word filtered through the pack in the weeks following the bombing. She shivered as she recalled the first moment when she’d realized everyone knew. She’d been working at Saul’s place when a couple of citizens she recognized from Northstar, though she didn’t know their names, had sat down. Saul had been shorthanded that day, and he’d asked her to step in to do some serving, so she’d been taking care of tables. The couple had been cold to her from the start, and when the female half deliberately spilled h
33She seemed shocked for an instant, but she didn’t try to persuade him he was being ridiculous or over-the-top with his emotions. Instead, she put her hand to his cheek and caressed lightly. “I was sure I’d never see you again either, so I did my best to tell you how I felt about you in the last few seconds.”“I didn’t sense that, but I knew you were reaching out to me. I started running to you even before the building had finished collapsing.” He tightened his grip on her hands, bringing them against his chest. “There’s nothing in the world more important to me than you. I’ll happily walk away from being Alpha and even leave the Northstar pack entirely if need be. I’d rather be alone or a rogue wolf with you by my side than give you up just to appease other people.”A tear sparkled on her lashes for just a moment, but she blinked, and it slid down her cheek. That appeared to be the last tear, because then she smiled. A moment later, she leaned forward and kissed him lightly. He was
32When Bodie stepped outside, the nurse he recognized from before from speaking with Mr. Yates was waiting in the hallway. She gave him an understanding smile. “You’ve been quite busy today visiting us.”“Not voluntarily,” he said with a hint of sourness. “Where is Mr. Yates?”She chuckled. “He’s a stubborn old coot, and when he heard about the bombing and the likelihood we might have several casualties, he insisted on checking himself out and going home.”Bodie frowned. “Are there that many casualties?”“So far, only two, but there are quite a number of injuries, and Dr. Lin thought Mr. Yates was probably safe enough to go home. We were only keeping him as a precaution and a way to force him to rest.”“I’m glad he’s okay.”“Yes.” She nodded to the waiting room. “Your parents are here.”He smothered a groan as he thanked her and headed that direction, though he didn’t want to be too far from Claire. He’d planned to linger outside her room and listen in case she called for him, but th
31She found herself cradled in Bodie’s arms a moment later, and he held her gently, though he hugged her with fervor. She clung to him, ignoring the pain in her side and her leg as he lifted her to her feet. “Did you get the school emptied in time?”He didn’t answer. He spent a second kissing her and staring at her as though reassuring himself she was still alive. Finally, he nodded. “I pressed the fire alarm, and the kids are used to fire drills. They left in an orderly fashion, and we were able to get them safely out of the blast zone. Most of them are currently in the baseball diamond with the teachers, and they’re all trying to figure out what’s going on.”“You didn’t tell them?”“I told a couple of people, but then I sensed you were in trouble. I took off running, and I guess I attracted enough attention to build up a slight entourage, because as I started digging frantically through the rubble after discovering where you were, I soon had plenty of help.”She looked over his sho
30Claire raced to the City Hall building, ignoring her mother calling after her. As she ran up the stairs, she glanced back in time to see Martina turn and hurry the other way. Likely, her mother was about to flee the scene with her father. The idea of them getting away with it galled her, but she had more important things to think about now, like saving all the people they could. There was no time for subtlety, so she burst into the lobby and shouted, “There’s a bomb. Everyone has to evacuate.” She ran past the startled young woman at the administration desk, turning to glare at her. “Did you hear me? Alert people and get the heck out.”After a brief hesitation, the girl, with shaking hands, pressed a button, and an alarm sounded.Claire didn’t wait to see what happened next. She just raced up the stairs and started shouting down the second-floor corridor. “There’s a bomb. Everyone, get out.” She continued to say that as she reached the third floor and repeated the warning. People w
29Dillon answered on the second ring, and Bodie quickly filled him in on what had happened, along with the suspicion there was a bomb somewhere in Northstar. Dillon sounded as alarmed as Bodie felt, and he promised he and Juno would immediately begin searching. “Be sure to check in frequently,” said Dillon before hanging up.The misery was practically pouring off Claire in waves, and he could feel it as if it were his own. If he allowed it to overcome him, he would probably burst into tears alongside her as she continued to silently cry. He did his best to erect a block between them just so he could stop receiving the full brunt of her emotions at the moment. He did reach across the bench seat and take her hand though, squeezing gently. He wanted to tell her it would it be okay, but he didn’t want to make a promise he couldn’t keep.As he drove toward Northstar, he tried to think about where they might have planted a bomb. It couldn’t be anywhere too visible for the components, or ev
28Claire’s window was painted shut. That wasn’t something new and nefarious that her parents had done since she’d last used the room. It had happened accidentally five years ago, when her father had repainted the room for her when she was deep in depression. It had been Martina’s idea to brighten the room and change her perspective. It hadn’t completely helped pull her out of depression, but she’d appreciated the gesture, and the warm yellow color had been cheerful then. It was still cheerful now, and it brought a surge of nostalgia for the parents she’d had. That was followed by a crushing wave of grief, since they clearly weren’t the same people, and she didn’t know if they could be reclaimed. She let out a sniffle as she sat on the bed, feeling sorry for herself. For a moment, she wanted to wallow in despair. It was eerily parallel to how she’d felt for the first few weeks after being released from the hospital, when she’d had no reason to go on and had been completely without hop
27The forum was practically dead, though Bodie continued to try to make connections or get people to say something. It appeared that the most active ones, the forum founders, weren’t online. Without them there, everyone else checked in and left quickly. He dared hope that without those three, the whole movement might fall apart if they could find out who was behind it.That wasn’t entirely true though, because there were locations sprouting up all over the world, according to the forum. Each country had its own subforum, and there was enough activity in each one that suggested the Human Purity Movement was gaining momentum, even though it was currently bound by secrecy since shifters weren’t yet known to the whole world. His blood ran cold when he read a post about how they might force shifters into the public eye, making humans acknowledge them. It was a terrible idea, and he knew humans weren’t ready for it. It would lead to war and suffering for both sides, but likely his own peop
