[Sasha]

“What do you mean he’s not here?” I demand over the phone, speaking to Caden’s clueless assistant.

I’ve been trying to reach him forever, but every call goes unanswered. I finally had no choice but to call this assistant. What’s her name again? Mandy? Andy? Brandy?

Ugh, whatever!

“I mean exactly what I said, Ms. Clarkson. Mr. Lawrence is currently on a flight to Japan. It’s a long flight, so he won’t be available for a few hours.”

Dammit. This is a disaster.

“When did he leave? And why am I just hearing about it now? You’re supposed to keep me updated, aren’t you? That’s what you get paid for!”

“Uh… I apologize, madam, but that’s not exactly part of my job. Besides, it was Mr. Lawrence’s strict instruction to keep his travel plans private unless it was an emergency. And, well…since you called, and you’re kind of…important, I figured this counted as an emergency. This is an emergency, right?”

What the hell? “Of course, this is an emergency, you idiot! Who the hell do you think

“What?” Agnes Lawrence sounds surprised. “How can he do that? And without even discussing it with us? Now, how are we supposed to help this poor girl?”My heart sinks deep into my stomach. They can’t be serious. I need this money. And I need it now.“Mom?” More tears spill from my eyes. “What are we going to do now?”Mr. Lawrence looks frustrated. “I don’t know what he was thinking. But the truth is, without his approval, we can’t access that money. And that means we can’t help you, child. We are very sorry.”Shit. No. I can’t accept no for an answer.“But my dad… he’ll die if he doesn’t get his surgery. Mom?” I turn to this stupid woman. “Please, don’t say no. You’re my only hope. Please, don’t leave me alone in this.”Agnes looks torn, her face a mask of concern. “Sasha, I wish there was something more I could do,” she says. “You know how complicated these things can be.”I shake my head. “Complicated? My dad is dying! Complicated is not an option right now!”“Calm down, dear,” Mr.

[Sasha]“Come on, open the door!” I mutter under my breath, standing impatiently outside Samuel’s apartment.I can’t believe he’s the only choice I have right now. After Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence showed me the door instead of putting millions in my account, I have no choice but to ask for help from their eldest son—the bad apple of the family. The prodigal son whose chances of returning to his family are as slim as summer in Antarctica.Shit. He’s never going to let me hear the end of this. But I have to swallow my pride. If not for my dad, then for my own dignity. My account’s down to nothing, which can’t go on for long. Without money, I feel helpless—like the whole world’s mocking me, or will as soon as they find out the truth about my family. After I knocked a dozen times, Samuel finally opened the door.I take a deep breath of relief, but it fades fast as he takes one look at me and rolls his eyes.“What the hell are you doing here?”I force a smile, hoping it’ll smooth over the sheer

[Sasha]I hate him. Hate that he’s right.I did all of this, went through every humiliating step, so Caden would finally marry me. But that bastard—after everything I’ve done, everything I’ve put myself through—hasn’t even mentioned marriage. Not even a damn engagement.I scowl, clenching my hands into fists at my sides. “Well, it’s not my fault your family’s dumb as fuck.”Samuel’s smirk widens. “Oh, you couldn’t be more wrong,” he says, turning around and plopping down on the dingy couch. “They’re not dumb, Sasha. They’re the exact opposite. Why else do you think they handed over the entire business to Caden, knowing full well he isn’t even their real son?”My eyes widen, and my breath catches.“Wait a second. What?”He arches a brow, feigning surprise. “What? You didn’t know? Oops!”There’s no way I could have missed this. “When were you planning to tell me all this? How—I mean—what? How is that even possible? I’ve never heard of this before.”“You didn’t?” He swirls his tongue aro

[Sasha]Once I’m done pacing and stressing over the fact that the Lawrence family isn’t what I thought, I decide it really doesn’t matter. Adopted or not, Caden is still my golden ticket to being rich, especially after I’ve spent so many years of my life pining for him.I turn to face Samuel. “Whatever. I don’t care if Caden is a real Lawrence or not. I love him. And I will do anything for him. So what if he’s taking his time to realize that? He just got divorced. I understand if he needs more time. I’m happy to wait as long as he wants…”I haven’t even finished when Samuel starts laughing, and he laughs so hard and for so long that irritation bubbles up inside me, sharp and hot.“Oh, oh, oh,” he gasps, holding his stomach as if he can’t breathe. “Come on, Sasha, darling. Let’s not fake this, at least not in front of me. I understand if my parents or Caden buy it, but me? Come on! I’m better than that.”I roll my eyes. “I do love him, you know. Why else do you think I’m wasting my tim

[Vivienne]“We need to destroy that woman,” Theo grunts for the thousandth time as we sit at a fine restaurant, waiting for my brother to arrive.I shake my head. “We need to relax. Especially you. No offense, but you’ve been pretty wound up ever since that meeting.”His gaze sharpens as he looks at me. “And I have a damn good reason to be. Did you see the way she talked about you? I’ve never seen such a vile woman in my life. What does she even think of herself? That she can just waltz in and insult you? Well, I’m going to teach her a lesson, that’s for sure. Just wait until Harvey gets here. I’ve already briefed him on everything, and he assured me that we’re not going to let this go.”I rub my head, deciding it’s not worth trying to reason with him—or Harvey, if Theo really told him everything. My brother can be incredibly stubborn when he wants to be. And with family being the most important thing to him, he definitely isn’t going to let this slide.“Fine, fine. Do whatever please

  • No Longer Yours, Ex Husband   Chapter 171

[Caden]My flight is delayed again, and I end up sitting at the bar. A drink in my hand, a million thoughts in my head. Out of the corner of my eye, I notice someone taking the stool next to me, but I barely turn or acknowledge them. I just want to be left alone. After what Dr. Kaito said about my unborn child, I can’t stop wondering what to do next. Convincing Vivienne to give up the baby is out of the question. She already thinks the worst of me, and no matter what I say, she won’t listen. But isn’t that what I’ve always been afraid of?It’s not that I don’t want a child—who the hell wouldn’t? The problem is this damned treatment I’ve been going through. I never found the courage to tell Vivienne about my… issue. I knew she would have understood, but she always saw me as this perfect man. I couldn’t shatter that image. I never wanted to be anything but perfect—not for anyone but myself, and for her. If she knew how broken I really was, how my own family abandoned me because they con

[Caden]I cannot help but roll my eyes when Alexander slipped on the seat next to me.If only I had the energy to get up and leave—I would have loved to ignore whatever he was here for.But I couldn’t even do that. After learning that my already fallen world was about to implode too, I felt drained and useless and meaningless.Nothing mattered. Not even the care that he’s the last person I should be dealing with right now.I focus on my half-finished drink.“You are very hard to find, Caden,” he says, and that too ever so smoothly.I hate it. I hate it so much I want to punch him in the face. But that would require interest, and I don’t have it either.“What do you want now?” I take a long sip, wanting to dull the effects of the words that are sure to come out of his mouth. He orders himself a whiskey and then dribbles on the wooden counter, probably testing my patience here. “Mother wants to meet you.”“Not happening,” I say and finish my drink in one go. The mention of that woman fi

[Vivienne]I wake up in the middle of night, feeling thirsty.I turn on the lamp and grab the bottle, hoping to pour myself some water.Only to find the bottle is empty.Of course, it is. I have been so thirsty recently, gulping down water as if not an entire waterfall could satisfy me.I sigh and get out of bed, heading out of my bedroom.I could have called one of the staff to bring me another bottle of water, but one look at the clock made me reluctant. It’s half past two. Not the time to disturb someone, especially when I can do that myself.I take the stairs and enter the kitchen. And as I do, my stomach grumbles as if I haven’t eaten anything for ages.God, this pregnancy. It’s turning me into an animal. I have no control over my diet, and I definitely have no control ov

[Vivienne]I don’t know what else to do.The way he’s acting—so different from anything I’ve ever seen—I feel like the only way I’ll get through this is by getting the hell out of here. But there’s just one little problem. The way he insists on driving me home, I can’t shake the feeling that even if I reject his offer (which I already have, by the way), he won’t let it go. If my past experience with his stubbornness is any indication, he’s going to follow me. And if he doesn’t do it himself, he’ll hire someone to do it for him. He’s done it before—what’s to say he won’t do it again? And if I’m being honest, I’m not ready for him to know anything about me yet. There was a reason I moved to my grandparents’ place—to get through this pregnancy in peace.I glance at him now, his face etched with determination, and I feel a wave of frustration wash over my entire being. He’s not the same man I left behind—not completely, at least. There’s something softer in his expression, a crack in the

[Caden]Before I can even reach for her arm, she pushes her chair back and grabs her bag.“Are we done?” she asks, her tone distant, her gaze fixed anywhere but me. She doesn’t even want to look at me anymore. If this had been one of those times in the past—when things were easier, when she still loved me—I might have thrown a fit myself. I might have grabbed her arm, dragged her to the car, shoved her inside, and kissed her like she was the air I needed to breathe.Kiss her. God, it’s been so long since I felt her lips on mine. Too long. And who knows how long it’ll take me to convince her to come back home, to even give me a chance to touch her again. I’d do anything for her, but I know better now. I burned those bridges myself. I’ve been a jerk, an asshole, so utterly blind to her existence, that if it takes me an eternity to carve even the smallest fragment of love back into her heart, I’d deserve every second of that wait. But I don’t have that kind of time.I can’t let my child

[Caden]There’s so much I want to say—so many misunderstandings to clear. But I can tell she’s way too worked up to hear anything right now. If I even tried to explain anything, she’d probably blow a fuse. So, I do what I do best. I shut my mouth and keep it all in, reminding myself that the whole point of inviting her here is to have a calm and collected conversation—a meaningful one—and there’s no way I’m doing anything to make her think otherwise. When the hostess arrives, I release a relieved breath and lean back in my chair.“Let’s just order something. We can always continue this later.”For whatever reason, Vivienne looks at me as if I have lost it. Her big, brown eyes stare at me as if about to eat me alive. She mutters something under her breath, probably calling me names and all, before going back to the menu and ordering herself more than a few meals. After the hostess leaves, I turn to face her. “Are you going to be okay eating that much food?”She glares. “Do I look like

[Vivienne]I agree to ride with Caden, but not without having the biggest distance between us possible. We make it to the restaurant and he helps me out of the car.The restaurant is a little bit fancier than I imagined. It’s not some huge place, but still, it’s got a really nice vibe to it.As we enter the restaurant, there’s a short, plump woman in a suit standing there. Her blonde hair is pulled into a low bun and she smiles as we approach.“Welcome,” the woman greets, giving us a small bow.“Table for two,” Caden replies.“Yes, this way, please.”The hostess leads us to a table and pulls out the chair for me, which I accept gratefully.I take my seat, and Caden follows, the hostess handing us each a menu before leaving.“What do you want to have?” he asks, as if this is some normal, everyday thing for us, instead of him practically forcing me to come here.“Doesn’t matter.”“Come on. There must be something you like. Order anything you feel like. I promise I won’t judge.”He says

[Vivienne]“Look at that tiny hand, saying hi,” the doctor says with a smile, as we go through the anomaly scan of my baby.I can’t help but smile, the feeling so natural—so pure—my eyes almost water.“It’s beautiful,” I mumble to myself, looking at the screen. “Is the baby healthy?”The doctor shifts the probe slightly, the screen flickering with new images of my baby, who seems so small yet so full of life.“Yes, everything looks good so far,” the doctor replies, her tone reassuring. “The baby is developing perfectly.”Relief floods through me, and I exhale a breath I didn’t realize I was holding. My hands instinctively rest on my belly, a silent connection to the tiny being growing inside me.“Do you want to know the gender?” she asks, her eyes kind.I hesitate for a moment, glancing at the screen. The idea of knowing feels both exciting and overwhelming, like unwrapping a gift too soon.“No,” I finally say, shaking my head. “I think I’ll wait. I want it to be a surprise.”The doct

[Sasha]“No!” she says stubbornly, her brows furrowing. “How can you even think about it? Absolutely not. You’re not bringing any harm to the child, Sasha. You just can’t. I know it’s hard right now, but that doesn’t mean you should do something so rash.”“I know you don’t want to hear it, but what choice do I have?” I choke out, my voice barely above a whisper. “I don’t have any money left. So, instead of starving the baby to death, wouldn’t it be better if we just… let it go?”I cry harder, my tears soaking the sleeve of my shirt.Mrs. Lawrence gets up from the couch, pacing the hall as if trying to think of something. She turns to face me almost immediately. “Alright, here’s what I think.”

  • No Longer Yours, Ex Husband   Chapter 199

[Sasha]I can’t believe I’m back here. After everything this family has done to ignore me, to ensure I never received a single penny from them, I’m still here, hoping for some help.Never in my life did I think I’d be in a position where I’d have to beg for my next meal. But here I am, and it’s the only option I have left. After selling the company and using half of the money to pay off the loan shark, and the other half to cover Dad’s hospital bills and pay the overdue salaries of employees we’d kept waiting for years, it wasn’t surprising that I was left with absolutely nothing. It doesn’t help that my idiot brother, Arthur, is nowhere to be found. Ever since he was released from the hospital and learned what I had to do to get rid of the jerk he borrowed from, he’s completely disappeared.Damn it. If I see him next time, I swear to God, I’m going to kill him.“How long is this going to take?” I ask, standing up from the couch as I spot one of the maids of the Lawrence residence pas

[Vivienne]“Where are you? You were supposed to be here hours ago,” I say over the phone, carefully walking down the stairs per the doctor’s instructions during my last visit.“On my way, I swear. Just got caught up in a call and couldn’t put it off,” Rosita says huffing, and not at all sounding as if she’s in a car.I reach the end of the stairs, frowning. “Have you even left? Please be honest with me.”“Of course,” she says as a matter of fact, but then right after a moment, she blurts out. “Actually, no.”Before I even respond to that, she rushes to explain. “Before you get mad, just hear me out. I swear I was leaving, I was almost ready to leave the house, get into my car, and reach you, but then…then someone came over and it seemed like urgent. And I could have told you all about that but…but…but…”“Hey, hey, hey,” I laugh. “Calm down, Ro. You’re making me sound like some tyrannical friend or something. It’s fine, really. The only reason I asked you to come over is because you sa

  • No Longer Yours, Ex Husband   Chapter 197

[Caden]Since our last meeting at the courthouse, I decided to keep my distance from Vivienne.A few weeks have passed now, and I think it’s enough time and space she might have needed to get used to the new reality of our lives—the kind of reality where she sees me around more often. The kind of reality where she allows me to be there for her and our child.“Excuse me, sir,” Betty Adams—my assistant—pulls me out of my thoughts.I look up to find her standing at the door. “The meeting starts in five.”The meeting. Of course. My last task of the day. After this, I’ll be free to visit Vivienne.Speaking of which—I get up from my chair, reaching for my suit jacket. “Did you find Vivienne’s new address?”I hear footsteps behind me. “About that…”When it feels like she’s going to leave it at that, I turn around, frowning. “What’s that supposed to mean?”“I mean, I tried, sir.”She must be out of her mind. “Well, clearly, you haven’t tried hard enough.”“But, sir—”“Leave it.”I walk past h
