"You've gone too far!" Gregory was furious.

He was about to hit me, so I immediately pulled out my phone. On the other end, the police had already answered the call.

I coldly said, "Officer, I want to report someone for domestic abuse!"

"You—"

Frank stopped Gregory. After all, he'd just been involved in soliciting prostitution. He must've feared he couldn't hide the fact that he was just released from jail if the police came.

"Enough," he said. "You two aren't thinking rationally. Let's go. We'll talk further after we all cool down."

He led Clara and Jessica out.

Gregory remained where he was. When our gazes met, he suddenly took a deep breath. His exhausted gaze fell on Harry, and he beckoned for Harry to go to him. "Harry, come to me."

"Mommy! I want Mommy." Harry hugged me tightly.

Gregory attempted to take him, but I took a step back. In a warning tone, I said, "He's my son. Don't you dare try to take him away from me."

Suddenly, he placed his hands on my shoulder. He sai

The person on the other end sent me a photo of Gregory and his ID number. I hesitated for a moment before calling my lawyer friend, Rachel Yates. Then, I dialed the number. "What's the matter with Gregory?"After confirming that I was Gregory's wife, the person explained over the phone, "Gregory came to us to apply for a loan. He's been here several times, but he doesn't have any collateral. He only said if we couldn't find him later, we could come to look for you. "He said you're his wife and gave us all your information. He even added that you own a car and a house."I sneered. "How much does he want to borrow?""A hundred thousand."It was exactly the amount Jessica needed for her fashion business fund. I figured she must have been pressuring Gregory after I left. For the sake of his sister, Gregory must have gone out to secure a loan. Not from a bank, but from private lenders. It was truly impressive!Gregory had also given them all my information. Even a fool could tell h

Rachel and I came up with a plan. I knew the places Gregory usually frequented and roughly where he was trying to get a high-interest private loan. I edited his photo and transformed his face into a handsome man. Then, I tweaked his body so that his figure would appear appealing to other men. I printed the pictures and pasted them around those locations, adding a note, "Affordable, unattached, and good in bed."A few days later, I returned home with Harry, pretending to be in tears. At that moment, Gregory was eating instant noodles. An unpleasant smell hit me when I opened the door. I suppressed my nausea and hugged Gregory once I entered. "Greg, I think you're right. I've been getting more and more selfish. I should've put family first. Your sister worked hard to raise you, so I should repay her. Didn't she ask for 100 thousand dollars for her startup capital? I'll give it to her!" Gregory was taken aback. I continued, "I have found a new job that pays daily. I can get fiv

I started transferring the money to Gregory. However, I always did it in the middle of the night. Gregory couldn't stop himself from smiling. "You're earning three thousand dollars a day? How did you do it?"I replied mysteriously, "You'll find out soon enough."He stopped asking questions and was content to receive money each night. The amounts varied between a thousand to five thousand dollars. The highest payment was ten thousand dollars. One night, I heard Jessica sneak into the house while I pretended to be asleep. "Greg, where's today's money?" Gregory transferred the money to her, and she exclaimed in surprise, "That much?"He replied, "She said she's working with a friend. They value her skills and pay her daily."Jessica was resentful of my ability to make money, but she was pleased at the same time. This meant she would have an endless supply of cash.Jessica continued, "So, you two are okay now? When can I move back in? My current place is terrible. Your neighbo

Gregory shouted, "I'm her husband. You… Why are you looking for her?"Rachel replied seriously, "Of course, I'm here to get her to clock in. A client specifically requested her. She claimed she was too exhausted from being with someone yesterday and needed a break. Did she think she would get a free pass?"Gregory's face turned pale. Suddenly, Rachel stared at him and said, "Hey, weren't you the one who recently signed up to join the club as a gigolo? You're not bad-looking yourself. We can offer you three thousand dollars."The debt collectors laughed mockingly. "It seems like you both are suited to be in the same line of work after all."Rachel turned to Simon, who was standing nearby. "Based on my experience, this gigolo here looks like he will provide you guys with a good time. How about someone setting a price? It will be a good start to the day."Gregory looked up and locked eyes with a bald man who was staring at him while licking his lips. He panicked and asked for three

Aunt Eliza said, "Gregory came and tried to take Harry—it's a good thing you had the foresight to send us off on a vacation. "The neighbors told me that he pounded on our door every day and wreaked havoc. He even spread rumors about you, saying that you're a loose woman who abandoned her husband and child."I made a sound of acknowledgment. "Don't bother about them. Enjoy yourselves, Aunt Eliza."She sent me some photos of Harry. I was glad to see he was much happier now that he was away from the Chance family.I kissed the photos of him. At the same time, I ran out of patience. I had a friend contact Gregory and tell him this was the best time to get a divorce because I was heavily in debt—there was no telling exactly how much.It was likely the debtors would come knocking and causing trouble daily, so it wasn't feasible to continue staying there. He probably wouldn't be dragged down with me if he were to get a divorce as soon as possible. Otherwise, the debtors would go after h

Clara was about to explode. "Don't fall for her lies, Greg! Sasha doesn't have a penny to her name now, and her reputation has been tarnished. All she has is debt! Don't tell me you don't want to divorce her so you can suffer with her and face her debtors!"Gregory frowned. Suddenly, I jolted and said to Clara, "I have a way to handle the debt! Jessica kept borrowing money from us in the past, right? That means the house she built in town is partially ours! We can tell her to sell that off and repay us. That's where we'll get the money!"Gregory didn't like the sound of that. He pointed at me, looking fierce. "How can you ask Jessica to sell her house? Since we lent her the money, we need to wait until she's ready to repay us. We can't chase her for it!"I shook my head. "That's supposed to be my money, and I need it back to repay my debts and survive. She's taken at least a few hundred thousand dollars from me. I don't see why I can't ask her to pay me back."This infuriated Grego

Gregory cursed at me.A week passed, and there were three days left until he was due to repay the debt. He finally sent me a location and asked me to have a proper discussion with him.I went alone to see Gregory and Clara already sitting there. They looked like they'd aged a decade, especially Gregory. I'd always been the one serving and caring for him, so he would look spirited even after staying up all night gaming. Now, he looked a lot more fatigued."Have you sold the house?" Gregory asked. He was still coveting it.I shook my head. "How do you expect me to sell it when the debtors are watching? They've made it clear that they're going to kill us if we can't pay them back on the due date."I'd already told him this earlier that morning. He took a deep drag of his cigarette, looking haggard. "What will it take for you to agree to a divorce?""Tell your sister to pay me back. We can have a clean break after that."Clara was the first to object. "We're all family here. It so

Gregory didn't have much energy to snap back at me. He'd just received another text asking him whether he was interested in pimping himself out. He didn't know why, but he kept receiving such messages recently. Some of them even offered rather high prices. He decided to give in. "Look, Sasha. Seeing as we're married, I'll be honest with you. I can't bear the burden of paying back your debt with you."Of course he couldn't. He had to help Jessica pay off hers.I couldn't stop myself from asking, "Are you still going to help your sister pay off her debt when you're barely surviving?"He sighed. "She's my sister. When I was a kid, she—""Stop!" I didn't want to listen to his nonsense. All I wanted to do was to get away from this family of bloodsuckers. • No Job, No Money   Chapter 20

Harry turned five this year, and we moved to a bigger apartment. Uncle Patrick came for a checkup, so I brought him and Aunt Eliza to an upscale hotel for a meal.I saw two homeless men fighting on the street in the distance."You're showing your butt, Gregory! Something red is coming out!"I turned around when I heard a familiar name. The scene I saw came as a shock. The homeless man really was the Gregory I knew. He had something like a bedsheet wrapped around him, but half his butt was showing. There was something trickling down his legs, and he held a bottle tightly. "I have to give this to Jess. Jess!"When one of the hotel's staff saw me staring, they came out to explain the situation. "That man has quite the sob story. He borrowed a lot of money from loan sharks to help his sister pay off her debt. When he couldn't repay the loan sharks, he ended up becoming a gigolo."Once, he came to this hotel with a patron. It seems the patron did something to him and made him faint. A

Holly suddenly burst into tears. "Poor Uncle Greg got taken away by a lot of men! It was so scary!"Jessica looked ashen. She finally broke down and cried, "Those loan sharks are monsters! The interest they charged was sky-high, so they took every dime we had. Greg went to borrow some more money so that Holly wouldn't go hungry, but they wanted him to sell himself…"I didn't pity him. How one's life turned out depended on the choices one made.Jessica tried to plead with me again. "We're family, Sasha. Please help us and lend us some money. Please!""Can't you go to work? It's not like you're disabled."She looked aggrieved. "Working is so tiring, and I didn't even graduate from college. I can't compare to a master's student like you. You can easily earn tens of thousands of dollars, but I can only make a few thousand dollars despite doing my best. Please, Sasha!"She wanted her cake and to eat it, too. She was now incapable of doing anything after being spoiled rotten.I turned

Gregory looked haggard. He suddenly said, "I'm sorry, Sasha."He had much to be sorry for, but I didn't need a belated apology. The nine years I'd spent on him came to an end on that day.I was afraid the Chance family would try to take my house away from me again, so I immediately put it up for sale. It was located in a new neighborhood, so it went for a high price.I bought a smaller apartment near my company—it was just perfect for Harry and me. I hired a live-in nanny to care for him, and Aunt Eliza occasionally dropped by to help.I went back to work in the second half of the year and got busy. Now that I no longer had to spend my money on the Chance family, I could put most of it aside in savings.Things were getting better. I didn't need to rely on anyone, so each step I took was firm and resolute.…One day, after a year-end celebration, I'd just left the venue when someone wrapped their hands around my leg."Give me money, Aunt Sasha!"I didn't expect to see Holly and
