Jeanette was very surprised. She chuckled awkwardly.

“You’re still awake. It’s already so long. I thought you’d be resting by now.” She walked to the side of the bed. She could clearly sense how unhappy Damon was today. He was staring at her, unblinkingly. His eyes held a strange sense of suffocation.

Xavier had never appeared again, all afternoon. Jeanette thought that she would never have to endure such a feeling. She had nearly forgotten about Damon.

Jeanette had no choice but to steel herself and look up at him, acting as if she were very relaxed. “What’s wrong? It’s late. You should get some rest.”

“What happened this afternoon?” Damon’s deep voice rang aloud.

Jeanette tensed. She knew that he would ask about this afternoon, but upon actually facing his question, she still felt a sense of panic. She hadn’t done anything wrong, but she didn’t want to make him angry.

If she told him the entire truth, Damon’s wrath would probably cause the entire hospital to explode. He was ba
