“Autumn!” I called as I jolted awake immediately, looking around only to see my friends laying in their pool of blood.
“Rico!” I gasped seeing as he was struggling to grasp his breaths. I quickly crawled to his side, trying to stop the blood flowing from his side. At the same time the sounds of NOPD sirens blared. I looked at the entrances and six cops quickly rushed in with the short police chief, Alston.“I need an ambulance!” I yelled while Alston quickly naked the call as he reached us.“What happened?” He asked but my mind was too preoccupied to even think about an answer. It didn’t take long for the ambulance to arrive and soon they took Rico and the others away. I felt so much rage scorching my insides like brimstone fire as I watched the scenery. Just like that, I had lost two of my friends. My palms curled and my teeth gritted. Whoever did this was definitely going to pay ten times.“Are you injured?” Alston asked, referring to my blood drenched clothes. Only then did I realize that my injuries were completely healed, there was no pain at all. I frowned, looking around for Autumn but she was nowhere to be found. That’s right, I collapsed before I could take her out of this place. Where is she?!“Where’s Autumn?” I queried.“Who’s Autumn?” He replied. “We need to get you out of this crime scene first,” he beckoned me to follow him outside to which I did. But the answer became clearer by the moment. As we got outside serenaded with the blinding lights of the sirens, I finally understood how I was alive and it brought me more anger than joy.“How did this happen Ash?” Alston queried.“Twelve men came in and started firing at us, that’s the most I can remember.” I replied.“Do you by chance know who could have done this?”“I don’t know Alston, you're the cop here for goodness sake!” I blurted angrily. He inched closer to me,“You and I both know that this attack is from one of your people. You recently became the leader of Silver Clawers, that automatically makes you a target.”“I don’t give a damn, Alston.” I growled. “Do your job and find the bastard who sent them. I want answers tonight if not this city is going to burn down!”“Hey, calm your horses,”“I just lost two innocent people and you’re telling me to calm down?” I grabbed his collar. “Find the bastard tonight unless you want to witness my wrath!”He heaved a light sigh.“We’ll find him but I want you to stay off the radar tonight. Don’t do anything rash Ash,”I scoffed.“I’m dead serious.” He quoted sternly.“I need a shirt,” I said while I tore my shirt off my body completely.“I’ve got one in the trunk,” he said and I followed him to his car.“I want you to think clearly Ash, perhaps you and someone got into a fight in the gangs or something,” he said while he opened his trunk and my breaths ceased for a split second as realization struck.“That bastard,” I mumbled in oblivion.“Who?”“Leon,” I answered after wearing the black t shirt. He frowned.“Leon is your brother Ash, he wouldn't do this.”“Oh yeah? You should have seen how ‘ecstatic’ he was when Arthur made me the new leader of the gang.”“Regardless,”“Leon and I have been having our issues for quite a long time now, it's definitely that bastard!” I walked away from him and threaded quickly to my car.“Ash, wait! Get a grip of yourself!” He held my arm as I reached the car. “I told you to stay off the radar tonight. Don’t do anything rash!”“I just want to pay him a friendly visit,” I smiled superficially before reaching for my keys, thankfully it was still in my pocket.“Leon is quite as dangerous as you, you can’t just attack him like that! We need evidence! And besides, the city has had enough blood spilled for tonight. So please, let me handle this!”I paused for a while, my rage wouldn’t simmer down regardless. The fact that I could have literally died tonight from a bunch of idiots hurt my ego to the core. And there were my friends too. I was pretty sure Leon was somewhere waiting for the news of my death. My palms curled.“Ash, please trust me.” He insisted and I exhaled deeply.“You have tonight,” I growled and only then did he let me go.“Where are you headed now?”I smirked,“I have a tiny bug to deal with.”I was about to saunter into my car when he spoke again.“It’s weird though, in a gunfight where you had the lower chance you escaped without any injuries.”I recalled Autumn’s face before flashing him a fake smile.“I guess Jesus loves me.” I quipped before shutting my door.“Remember—“ he was saying something but I didn’t wait for him to finish before driving off. I didn’t give a dime that I was way over speed limits, I just drove down the road as fast as I could till I arrived at Autumn’s place. The guard that I put in charge of watching her had given me her address two days ago, I guess it finally came in handy. I opened my glove compartment and took the hand gun inside before alighting. I headed inside the building and soon reached her door. I knocked gently but no one answered. As I was about to knock again the door slowly opened and I pointed my gun at her forehead.“Ash!” She gasped.“Start talking.” I dead panned.“What do you mean start talking? What did I do for you to point a gun at me?” She queried in fear.“Autumn, I just lost two people tonight and any little lie from you is enough to make me press the trigger. So unless you want your goddamn brains splattered on the floor, start talking!” I yelled and her eyes and lips started twitching.“I—I don’t know what you’re talking about,”“I had four bullets in me, enough to kill me but somehow I woke up with my injuries completely healed and you, nowhere to be found. One would think I was probably deluded from the trauma but no! You and I both know what happened when I collapsed.” I paused, gazing intently into those green eyes that tried to lie.“It was no miracle, Autumn. You gave me your blood to drink and my injuries got healed.” My lips pursed as her eyes lowered from mine. “You’re a werewolf.”She remained mute and that was more than enough. My grip tightened on the handle and a part of me wished I pressed the trigger but I couldn’t.“What Pack are you from?”“I’m a Rogue,”“For fucks sake what Pack are you from?!” I barked.“I swear I’m a rogue! I got kicked out of my Pack for a crime and ever since then I came to New Orleans hoping to start a new life.” She said with tears hinting in her eyes but I cared less.“I know a werewolf when I see one but you hid yours so well from me, how?”She slowly pointed to her gold necklace.“It hides my werewolf nature.”“Why did you save me?”She stared at me for a while as if she was trying to find an answer in my eyes.“I don’t know why I did it too. I just couldn’t watch you die.”I gulped down my saliva and lowered my gun. I exhaled deeply.“Words around say I’m into some gang stuff, isn’t that what you told me earlier today? Well those words are true. I’m the leader of one of the gangs in this city but we’re not your typical mafia gang. We are werewolf hunters.”Her eyes widened in horror.“I should kill you but,” my lips pursed. “I can’t bring myself to do it.”She heaved a sigh of relief.“Keep that necklace on you at all times, unless you want to die. Also,” I inhaled deeply trying to allay the pain that came with the thought I was entertaining.“Forget that you ever crossed paths with me. I don't want to see you anywhere around me. I might end up killing you, Autumn Ivanka.”I walked away from her.“Ash! Ash!!” She yelled but I kept walking away. I didn’t know why it hurt me this much but this was the right decision to take. Werewolf and Werewolf hunters were natural enemies. As I got outside, my phone started ringing.“Yes,”“Boss! One of our lairs was attacked. We’ve been robbed of our weapons, assets, everything!” He said and I almost smashed my phone in anger.“You better find out who’s behind this before tomorrow ends, if not I’m going to kill you myself!” I growled before cutting the call. As I entered my car back, I banged the wheels repeatedly till I was breathless.Leon was definitely behind all this. This was his act of rebellion against me! But Alston was right at the same time. Leon was just as dangerous and any mistake I made would cost me dearly. I picked my phone and dialed Barron’s number.“Ash, word is just getting to me you were attacked,” the old man said.“You don’t need to worry. Call for a meeting tomorrow by six. I think it’s time we had a proper family reunion.” I smiled devilishly.Chapter 06 “Yes, Alston,” I said as I picked up my phone in a lazy manner.“I’ve got updates on your guy.” He said and I sat up on my bed immediately. “Name?” I quoted icily and he sighed. “Name, Alston,” I demanded. “We found out that one of those men has been closely related with the Mayor in recent months. We have pictures that can prove that, apparently he’s working as one of the bodyguards.” “Why would Mayor Hemsorwth try to kill me? He and my father used to have a very good relationship.” I growled. “I don’t know but it will certainly be dragging a lot of attention if I bring him in for questioning and I don’t want that. So you know what to do. Handle your shit with him and don’t do anything out of proportion.” He replied and my palm curled. “You’re trusting the wrong guy to handle this matter. I might end up killing him, Alston.” “I know you’re not stupid.” He replied and I cut the call. I ran my hands through my low cut hair in a frantic manner and then stared at the wa
“It’s official, I hate myself.” I blurted as we sauntered into Mayor Hemsworth mansion. “Stop,” Skye eyed me. “You’re gonna have fun, okay. Besides, who knows you could meet the man of your dreams tonight.”“Oh please,” I rolled my eyes as we sauntered into the glamorous ballroom. It wasn’t the interior designs and the chairs and tables that were the only things that reeked of class. There were several dignitaries, celebrities I could note. Most of them dressed in black tuxes and dashing evening gowns just like Skye and I. I was wearing a green evening gown coupled with some long hand gloves and silver pairs of stilettos while Skye slayed with black instead. She quickly introduced me to her parents and a few people which truthfully, I found tiring. “I shouldn’t have come here,” I said as we took our reserved seats leaving two empty chairs left on ours. “Don’t be a killjoy Autumn!” She gleamed. “Maybe you can handle it but I can’t handle this pressure, I feel so out of place here a
“The Mayor didn’t invite you to this party Ash yet you came.” Ariel muttered as I joined her on our table. I was brewing with so much anger but I could only smile through it. Eyes were on me, especially Leon. He was the one I was a bit terrified of. I have to give it to him, he was the smartest amongst us. And now that I’ve confirmed that he was on good terms with the mayor, it meant more trouble for me. “Why did you come here Ash?”“To celebrate with the mayor of course! What else do they do at birthday parties,” I smiled superficially. “What happened between you and the mayor? I thought the two of you were on good terms.” I glared at the two of them, standing side by side with each other.“He tried to kill me.” I blurted. “What?! Why would he do that?” “You can go ahead and ask him. I’ll be more than glad to get an answer.” “Ash,” she held my left palm on the table. “I know you’re here for revenge but—“ “I already told you love,” I held her chin gently. “We’re only here to ce
“It all started with you almost getting shot from your date with Ash and then came the mayor’s party where an idiot decided to ruin the fun by firing a gun. This weekend has certainly been eventful. Can this day even get slower? It’s evening already!” Skye sighed as she focused on the TV while she laid her head on my thighs. I, on the other hand, was busy texting so I barely heard what she was saying. “Shit, tomorrow is Monday and I have professor Harry’s assignment to submit.” She lamented but I chuckled. “You’re not even listening to me, who are you talking to?” “Leon.” I answered and she sat up immediately. She peaked at my phone and gasped. “You guys are really texting.” She pitched in surprise. “Yeah, after last night we kind of clicked. He’s coming over soon.” “What?!” “Yeah, we just wanna hang.” “Hang out where?” “Madeline's art gallery.” “For real?! Autumn you guys literally met last night.” She chirped. “I know right,” “And you didn’t tell me?!” She hit my shoulde
“Have you found any information yet?” I asked on phone as I headed to Mr. Luther’s class. “No at all boss but I assure you I’ll give you a name soon.” Damon answered and I grunted. “Soon is not enough Damon. Those things they stole from my lair are worth millions! I need a name by tonight!” I asserted and didn’t wait for his response before hanging up on him. And with pride, I entered the lecturers class with two guards postured behind me. The young man in his early thirties froze the moment he saw me. I threaded to one of the empty seats at the back not giving a darn about the surprised looks I got from the class. I crossed my legs over the table and pulled a cigarette and lighter out. “I’m sorry class but we’ll have to postpone. Something urgent came up.” Luther said and the class slowly dispersed. “Boss,” Luther said as he approached me. I puffed. “Boss? Oh come on Luther. You and I know your boss gave me three days to step down as Silver Clawers leader. No need for this faca
Yes, I was jealous! I didn’t know why but I hated it so much to see Autumn with my brother. She should be mine! And that was the only reason why I was attending this stupid function anyways. I knew he would ask her to come with him and my guess was right. As much as I was irritated to see both of them together, I admired her dazzling backless high slit red gown.“Ash, you came.” Leon mumbled in a not so excited tone. The mayor grunted while Autumn kept staring at me as if she wanted to read my mind. “Of course, this function is for the businessmen of New Orleans of which I’m part of, so why should I miss it?” I smirked while scooping a glass of champagne from the one of the men servants tray that walked past us. My eyes fell on her waist where his hands were and I almost crushed the glass. “Of course,” Leon smiled but we both knew it was fake. “You enjoy yourself. Autumn and I still have other people to meet.” They beamed at each other before and I felt like punching the shit out of
I touched my lips, still struck in awe as I watched Ash saunter away from me with pride. I recalled every second of it, how his soft lips had claimed mine in a possessive manner. What baffled me the most was that even though I was mad at him, I thoroughly enjoyed it more than Leon’s. My wolf cheered like she had just won a lottery, she wasn’t even this way with Leon. I didn’t know how long the majority of us froze for but it certainly took a while. I glanced at Leon behind me and all I could see was rage, not at me but his brother. He felt like punching the shit out of Ash. “I’m sorry, Mr. Hudson but we have to leave now. I have pressing matters to tend to.” He told the man beside him before meeting me. He donned a smile but I knew better that it took all he had to wear those. “We have to go,” he said and I easily agreed. Throughout our journey in his Range Rover, he didn’t say anything nor did I. I was struck in a limbo on whether to spark a conversation or just remain mute. I was
“Yes Luther,” I answered my phone call while my chauffeur drove me home. “Ash came visiting today,” he said. “He wanted the locations of your lairs.” “Did you give it to him?” “I’m sorry Leon but he threatened me with the professor’s case. I don't know how he got to know about it but I had no choice.” “It's not your fault.” I responded calmly whilst wondering how Ash had gotten to know about our little secret. “I shouldn’t be telling you this but I can’t watch something terrible happen to you. Whatever Ash is planning, he’s definitely up to no good.” I exhaled lightly. “He's probably planning to raid those places. Arrange my men, they should be on guard at all times. We can’t risk anything.” “I’ll do that tonight.” He said and I hummed before hanging up. “We‘be arrived sir.” My chauffeur chorused as he drove to a gentle halt before my mansion. “Thank you Timothy,” I replied while a guard dressed in a suit came to open my door. “Boss, Barron is here. He arrived here about th
“I think this marriage frenzy thing is making you assume things,” I said, “I only brought Autumn with me so my bed won’t be left cold tonight.” She peered suspiciously at me for a while and then smiled. “How is Leon?” “Fine.” “And work?” “Fine too.” She hummed while I downed my champagne hurriedly. “Looks like so much has been happening over there. So much you’re refusing to talk about.” I exhaled deeply.“Ash,” “Today is a joyous occasion. Your day. And I don’t want to ruin it by talking about the affairs of New Orleans.” She shrugged. “I think I’ve already had my fill of today. Let’s deal with you.” “Now you’re sounding like a therapist.” “I am your therapist,” we both chuckled for a brief moment and then I stared into the sky, making shapes with the stars. “It's hellish,” I started in oblivion, “after the old man died, handling the gang and the daily hurdles that came with it was killing more than I imagined,” I sighed. “I’m afraid my father may have picked the wrong per
A tiny smile graced my lips as I admired my reflection on the full length mirror. I was donning a simple suit complimented with a bow tie. I ran my hand through my short hair so it fell in a wavy fashion. I usually had no interest in attending wedding ceremonies but this one in particular was special. The only thing I hated was the bandage tape on my face. My phone rang in my pocket and my smile faded noting the caller ID. “Ariel,” I answered. “Were you never going to return my calls? I sent you texts but apparently you’ve been doing a very fine job ignoring them. I visited but your guards wouldn’t even let me enter. I’m your girlfriend for goodness sake! What did I do wrong Ash?! What—“ her voice trailed off and I knew it was tears that were certainly going to follow. “You know better that I’ve been busy. A lot has happened over the past few weeks, I could have lost my life or been in jail—“ “I know! I know, but couldn’t you have said something? Ash I don’t know why but these da
“That fool!” I blurted as I hit the punching bag hard. I didn’t want to think about it much but the morning’s incident kept replaying in my head. Why does Ash have to get the good things? If anything, he wasn’t worthy of Autumn! My breaths escaped in heavy sessions as I rained the bag with several blows till it came off from the ceiling mount. I panted, staring at the bag on the floor. I used the white towel wrapped around my neck to clean my sweats before deciding to hang the bag again. The gym door opened making way for a dark haired slim and curvy lady to saunter in. Skye. Her hair was a mess and she was in her nightgown, enough for me to conclude she just woke. “Good morning!” I teased while she approached me in a lazy fashion. I glanced at the wall clock reading ten minutes past two in the afternoon. “Ah shit,” she sighed while she sat on the weight bench a few meters beside me. “I had a long night yesterday.” “I can tell,” I picked the punching bag to hang it. “Boyfriend?”
I hummed in pleasure as we got to the dining room welcomed by the aromas of different meals laced on the polished antique dining table. “What do we have here Freya?” I asked my chef as she did some adjustments to the arrangements alongside two of her staff. “This is, Grilled steak with roasted vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes,” she pointed to one of the meals while one of the staff pulled my chair for me to sit. Autumn on the other hand sat on the opposite side. “Pan-seared salmon with sautéed spinach and wild rice pilaf, Lobster risotto with garlic bread and mixed green salad, Grilled lamb chops with ratatouille and couscous salad, Baked salmon with dill sauce, roasted asparagus, and wild rice, Spaghetti carbonara with garlic bread and Caesar salad—“ “That’s enough,” I cut her off abruptly. “I would have died of hunger by the time you’re done with all this, I want the err…” I pointed to one of the meals. “What’s it called again?” “Grilled steak with roasted vegetables and ga
“This is your room.” Ash said as he ushered me into a large room. It was the same one they had brought me after the incident with Sebastian. There were changes though, the bedsheets were a floral shade of red and white. The couch and stool at the left corner of the door side were rather than the black I remembered. The black marble floors were still as reflective as I remembered and the luxurious mahogany wardrobe rooted by the right side of the wall still remained. The room scent was that of jasmine and it almost brought a smile to my face.“I’ll assign three guards to be in charge of your protection. You’ll meet them later,” he said while he closed the door behind us. “Henceforth, you’re no longer allowed to leave this house except for school. And if you have any outing or whatsoever you have to attend, then you must report to me first. Is that clear?” I turned to him with a sharp frown, “are you stripping me of my freedom?” “I’m protecting you.” He quipped back. “No you’re locki
“We’ve arrived ma’am.” John announced as he drove the car to a gentle halt. I exhaled deeply, mentally recalling Ash’s warm lips grazing mine.“Is anything wrong?” His voice tousled my thoughts. “I’m good.” I replied before sauntering inside. “Miss Autumn!” Mrs. Anderson chirped with her graceful smile as I arrived at the living room.“Please, Mrs. Anderson, Autumn is just fine.” I responded. “Of course. Leon left for some meeting so he would be coming home late tonight. Should the maids prepare dinner or something for you?”I glanced at the time on my phone, it was twenty minutes past eleven. Besides, I had too much storming in my mind over some meal. “Nah I’m fine. Where’s Skye?”“She went out with a friend.” She answered and I donned a skeptical look. “You don’t have to worry. One of the guards accompanied her.” She said and I nodded before threading up the stairs. I locked my door after texting Skye. She was probably out with one of her men. I tossed my phone to the bed befor
“I’ll never be yours, that’s what she told me, Rico.” I mumbled while Rico bandaged the cuts on my face. “This long slashes shows how much she intends to keep to her word.” He commented but I was barely paying attention to any of his words. I touched my lips remembering how much mine had caressed hers. But I wasn’t satisfied. I wanted every piece of her and I hated it that she knew that. “You know, this is the first time a lady is rejecting me. I’ve always had it easy with them but Autumn? She’s different. Her defiance, her stubbornness vexes me yet I find myself getting enthralled by her presence day by day.” He handed me the mirror so I could see his finished work. The bandage was pretty obvious but I guess this is what I deserve for taunting a fierce werewolf.“The Ash I know wouldn’t allow any werewolf to harm him this way. What happened to you man? What’s so special about her?” I stared at him for a while wondering if I should spill the truth that she was my mate. But then ag
Swansview hotels. I heaved a sigh as I alighted from the Mercedes alongside John. The chill air danced around me gently as I stood before the magnificent hotel welcoming me to its luxury. As I threaded into the building, a man dressed in a perfectly tailored suit approached me with a stern look.“Miss Autumn,” he called. “I’ll take you to the boss’s room.” He gestured. “Alone.” He added, glaring at John. “Mr. Leon specifically asked me to keep watch on her at all times.” John remarked. “And who does your boss answer to?” The man replied and John cleared his throat before taking a step backwards.“Please,” he gestured again and led me to the elevator. His room door was guarded by two men poised at opposite sides of the door. “You may enter.” He said and I inhaled deeply before opening the cream colored door. If I was expecting the normal small room then I was proven wrong. It was delightfully large and luxurious. Ranging from the bed, to the small couches surrounding the small table
“Father,” I called as I arrived at the training grounds. The old man whose low cut black hair seemed to beam under the sun’s glorious rays turned to me with a stern look. “Sebastian.” He noted. “Training is over, you may disperse!” He ordered the men before him. “Yes, Alpha Frederick!” They chorused sharply and then dispersed while I joined him by the side. “How was your mission?” He sported a quizzical look. “We were interrupted by werewolf hunters. Only Jason and I were lucky to escape.” I answered and his disgust painted evidently all over his face. “Hunters?” “Yes father,” I gulped down my saliva whilst getting flashes of how monstrous they had been. “They weren’t just ordinary hunters. It was the Luxton brothers, Alston and Damon.” His left brow arched upwards. “Ash was there,” “Yes.”“And you let him kill my men?” My father growled, causing fear to sprout in me like a seedling. “He was very powerful, father. I could have died if I didn’t escape.”His growl protruded ag
