Arian

It's been a week since I saw Gabriel, since I heard about the shooting incident and I've been praying for his recovery and also hoping it wasn't a life threatening injury he sustained. Kary has been staying with her grandparents since he was admitted in the hospital so I've been freer than a bird, with nothing to do except to read, help out in the kitchen and read again.

"Arian!" Kelly calls, bursting through the patio doors with a smile on her face and the wireless receiver in her hand. "Here!" She passes the phone to me.

"Who is it?" I ask.

"Take a guess." She winks at me then turns and hurries back inside.

I stare at the receiver, eye it suspiciously for a second before I put it to my ear gingerly and take a deep shaky breath. I calm myself with the knowledge that Rafael doesn't know that I'm here and I speak into the phone.

"Cruz residence." I say.

"Arian, it's Gabriel."

An unspeakable joy floods my soul upon hearing his voice and I burst into tears - happy tears. I knew I'

Gabriel "Are you happy now?" I ask Gabi. "You wanted to show me that she doesn't care about me and you did. Are you satisfied?""I didn't do it for me. I did it for you." She states. "Are you so blinded by her that you can't see she'll never love you?""I know that." I hiss through gritted teeth. Her mouth drops open in shock. "And you still want to go ahead with this ridiculous thing you have going on with her?""You told her that it's none of your business so stay out of it." I snap. "Why are you even here? Aren't there projects for you to tackle at work or am I your project? Make Gabriel see how much of a fool he is?""There's no need for you to be so cruel." She says. "I'm here because I care about you.""You have a funny way of showing it." I let out a derisive snort. I grab hold of the IV pole and use it to heave myself up to my feet then I slowly make my way back to the bed and sit down on it."I'm sorry if you think my actions are hurting you." She says. GabrielA week later "You're being followed, sir." The voice of one of my bodyguards fills the car. "It's a black Toyota Corolla without a license plate number."I look into my rearview mirror and see the car a few places behind me. I'd just left the hospital after being given the carte blanche by my doctor to resume activities - excluding weightlifting - for now. I can see the silhouette of a man in the driver's seat and I growl under my breath."Tail him. Make sure you don't lose him." I order. "I need to know who this fucker is.""Yes sir."I press down on the accelerator and the car shoots forward at a breakneck speed, leaving the other car way way behind me. I have a feeling that it's probably someone who has it out for me that wants me dead and all of my fingers are pointing to Vincent Harvey, but the idiot isn't in the country, so I can't accuse him of this face to face.I look back into the rearview mirror and grin when I see that I've managed to lose him. There's no way that

ArianPeople say they see their lives flashing before their eyes in the case of accidents and while I'm not involved in an accident of any kind... I can see my life flashing before my eyes right now. I'd always known I was bound to be alone forever but I never envisioned that I'd be capable of making a space in my heart for another person.I opened my heart to Kareena the same day she told me she loved me and it was that same day I vowed to stay with her for as long as she wanted me to. I just didn't imagine that I'd find her father so damn irresistible and end up sleeping with him, to the point where we'd get so caught up in each other and not have any regard for his daughter's feelings whatsoever. We shouldn't have done what we did, but it's too late to take it back. I mentally prepare myself for what is about to happen next - Kary's disgust towards my relationship with her father and the inevitable hatred she'd have for me afterwards."Well?" She prompts, staring at us with wide, c

Gabriel A week laterIt's been a few days since I returned from Germany and I've been finding it hard to see Kenneth. It's not like I don't want to see him - I do, but I'm just trying not to remember everything that he did to me all those years ago and to focus on this one thing he did. If I decide to punish him for what he did to me all those years ago... I'd kill him and end up in jail. Though, this time is no different.I already told dad about him after Rene and his colleague captured him and he promised to get me what I want from Kenneth; a confession and... possibly an apology. It is far-fetched, considering the type of person Kenneth is, but I'm holding out hope that he'd be so tortured by dad, that he'd beg for mercy and ask for forgiveness."We can't continue like this, Gabriel." Gabi's voice brings me out of my reverie.I turn my head to look at my sister in surprise, wondering when she walked into my office without me knowing. I press a button on the intercom to call my t

Gabriel "You did this?" Ken looks shocked."Why do you look so surprised?" I chuckle. "Am I not capable of kidnapping the man who tried to kill me?""I didn't think you had it in you." He rumbles."Well, I do." I grab a chair from the corner of the room, set it down in front of him and plop down on it. "Here you are, strapped to an electric chair and looking like you were beaten to an inch of your life." I turn my head to look at Rene. "Did he give you a name?""He said he'd rather die." Rene replies."Is that so?" I scoff. "Well... I can make that happen if you don't tell me what I want to know.""You don't have it in you, Cruz." He spits. "You didn't have it in you back then, and, you certainly don't have it in you now. You've always been a weakling."My gaze swivels to Rene and his partner as they simultaneously withdraw their guns from their holsters, ready to blow Ken's brain out for talking to me in such a despicable manner, but I shake my head at them and they pull back, retur

ArianTwo weeks later It's Kary's birthday today and I can't be happier that I'm here to witness a lovely girl like her officially turn six years old. Everywhere is abuzz with the preparations and it has been that way since the beginning of this week. Her friends from the orphanage have been invited and her friends from school as well. She's so happy, bouncing around the house like a kid high on sugar and I can't help but feel the same way too.The only thing that is putting a little damper on my mood is her father who's been absent minded of late. He's still a wonderful lover and all that, but he's always lost in thought and one would think, finding and arresting the culprit behind the shooting and the explosion at his factory would make him extremely happy. I tried wiggling information out of him through sex and every possible way I could think of but the man's mouth is shut tighter than freaking Fort Knox. He wouldn't tell me anything and it has led me to suspect that his parent

Gabriel I watch as a plethora of emotions cross Arian's face as she carefully traces the words in the letter through the glass and I'm left wondering why she looks so sad. She did tell me she doesn't like sad stories but I think it's something more than she's letting on. She looks up at me with tears in her eyes and for that brief moment... I imagine her telling me that she's my Kareena. No two people can evoke such profound feelings in someone and I'd felt that way with Kareena many many years ago. Our meeting had been brief - less than one hour - but I'd known, despite being eight years old and not having any idea what love really was all about, that she was the one. "Why are you crying?" I ask her. She hands me the picture frame, wiping her tears and turning away from me. "I don't know." She sniffles. "Today is a day of emotional rollercoaster for me, I guess. I mean... Kary turned six today and... It makes me feel like she's growing up so fast." She chuckles softly. "I wasn'

GabrielIt's been a month and I still can't wrap my head or my heart around the fact that Arian is just done with me. She'd tried to end our 'relationship' many times but I always seduced her out of doing it and I thought this time would be different but I was wrong.Whatever she'd dreamed about had helped solidify her into being able to resist me and she went back to calling me Mr Cruz that very same freaking day. She's still very much the same person to Kary but to me... She's now a complete stranger.I decided to get over the hurt by throwing myself into work, traveling when I don't need to, but it did not help so here I am, at the bar drinking my misery away and hoping that being dead drunk will numb the pain."Don't serve him anymore." A familiar annoyed voice speaks up beside me.I look up from my glass to the intruder through glazed eyes and my brows furrow in confusion when I see my father glaring disapprovingly down at me."Daad! Arian Six months later Dearly beloved, we're gathered here today in the sight of God to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony. Not to be entered lightly, holy matrimony should be entered into, solemnly and with reverence and honor." The priest begins in Italian. "Into this holy agreement, these two persons come together to be joined. If any person or people here can show cause as to why these two should not be joined in holy matrimony, speak now or forever hold your peace." Gabriel and I turn at the same time to look behind us but no one speaks up and we face the priest again. Majority of the people here probably don't understand what he's saying so we're good to go. "Do you, Gabriel Emerson Cruz, take Arian Katerina Macavinta to be your lawful wedded wife and live together in the estate of holy matrimony? Do you promise to love, comfort, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, for better or for worse as long as you both shall live?" The pri

Gabriel Two years later Dear Gabriel, Two decades ago, I was a little girl who had been abandoned by her beloved father and I'd thought myself unworthy of anyone's love but you saw me, took your time to get to know me and at the end of that day, I went back to the orphanage with the knowledge that I was worthy of being loved by someone. Months ago, I thought I was returning home to get far away from the clutches of my ex husband and I vowed never to get involved with any man but I met you and you turned my life upside down. You made me happier than I'd ever been in years and for that, I'll be forever grateful to you. I'm sorry that I didn't tell you I am the girl you'd been waiting for and I didn't even realize it until you told me about your story. I'm sorry for leaving you and your daughter after I promised not to go, but I hope you can understand why I have to. Rafael is finally dead and I'm free from him forever, thanks to your father. Gabriel Arian probably thinks I'm out of my mind for challenging her ex husband to a fight. He's a dangerous man who has no qualms about killing someone in cold blood but I don't care. He made her life miserable for ten long years and even after being incarcerated in prison, he was still tormenting her in her dreams but it has to stop now. She was his and now she's mine and I will make sure I win this fight, then take pleasure in blowing his brains out with his own fucking gun. I have the upper hand in this fight and I don't give him an inch, throwing punches after punches making him bleed but he also doesn't give me an inch either as he throws a sucker punch that almost knocks me out. My ears ring from the punch and my vision becomes blurry but I shake myself out of it and attack him again and we end up rolling around on the floor trying to get the best of each other. My attention becomes divided as I see Lucille pick up one of the guns from the floor, turn off the safety and

Arian "She has a gun." The voice in my head whispers fearfully. "She has a fucking gun!" I feel the cold sweat that has broken out on my face and I have trouble breathing. I hate guns, hate seeing them because I've had to live with gun-toting, knife-toting men like Rafael and his men for ten years. I'd prayed to God to keep me away from guns when I came to this country, but I'd ended up taking a bullet for this man in front of me and now his ex wife wants to exact revenge on him. Gabriel moves to stand in front of me, shielding me from his ex wife's murderous glare, all the while trying to placate her to drop the gun so they could talk calmly about this, but his words fall on deaf ears. "Did you think I was joking when I told you that I'd kill you and the woman you choose to leave me for?" She asks. "How stupid of you to think I'd just accept defeat like that, Gabriel Cruz! You're mine and no one else's." I don't know why Mrs Cruz and her daughter aren't here to see a certifiable

Gabriel I leave my car running, the automatic gear in Park and the door open as I race up the steps to Lucille's front door and I press the doorbell incessantly until the housekeeper appears to open the door for me. I don't give her the chance to say anything as I march into the house and head straight for the living room. She calls my name but I don't answer until I walk into the living room and my steps falter when I come face to face with my wife - soon to be ex wife - having sex with an unknown guy on the sofa. "Mr Cruz!" Helen stops beside me but she turns her back quickly, unlike me, as Lucille and the guy break apart. "What the hell, Gabe?!" She snaps. "I'm so sorry, ma'am. I tried to stop him but he barged in before I could." Helen apologizes. Lucille picks up her discarded dress from the floor and puts it on as the guy hastily dresses up but he doesn't quite finish and hurries out of the living room with his shirt and shoes. Good for him that he had the good sense t

Gabriel Six weeks later Walking out of the High Court with the knowledge that in a few weeks, I'll be a single guy once again has me grinning from ear to ear. The judge had listened to both sides of our story and even as Lucille had laid it thick on her tears for the judge to rule in her favor... He hadn't and had declared our marriage irretrievable, but it hadn't been his final decision and that was good enough for me. I'd wanted Arian inside the court with me but she'd refused to go in, saying it reminded her of her own divorce and I'd not pressed her. Seeing her waiting for me on the steps of the building makes me very happy and my smile widens when she looks up and sees me. "How did it go?" She asks. "I'll be a single guy in a few weeks." I reply. "I don't know why he didn't just give a decree absolute instead of a decree nisi. It's all good, though, because I have finally beaten Lucille at her own game. She won't be Mrs Cruz for much longer." "It's fast." She remarks. "Min

Lucille Gabriel has finally done it. He wants to get rid of me so he can have a good life with that bitch and my stupid daughter who wouldn't know a good mother from a bad one even if it hit her in the face. She has forgotten that it's because of me, because of my love for her father that she's alive today, but I'm going to let it slide with her because she's just a little girl.I'm sure Gabriel has been feeding her lies about me, which was the reason why she'd not wanted me at the party. One thing Gabriel Cruz doesn't know is that inasmuch as I love him, my love could easily turn to hatred and I did promise to never let him be happy with any other woman. If killing him or her would ensure the end of their budding relationship, then so be it. I'm game."Are you really letting him go?" Samantha settles down on the single wingback chair with a drink in her hand. "It's unlike you.""I'm making him think he has won, Sam." I send her a smirk. "He may win the case in court and we'll get d

Arian"This is so surreal." I mutter. My head is resting on Gabriel's chest after our intense love making. It was better than the previous times. Although, it could be because we'd both gone two months without it and we'd been so starved for one another. All I know is that I'm not so sure I can say no to this man anymore."It is, isn't it?" I can hear the smile in his voice. "Being here with you, like this again. I feel like I'm dreaming.""Then, we're both having the same dream." I chuckle."I love you, Arian." He bends his head to plant a kiss on my hair. "It feels really good to let it out now.""Will you be okay with me saying I like you?" I ask in a tentative voice. "I can't go any further than that.""I'm more than okay with it." He squeezes my shoulder. "Half bread is better than nothing.""Do you think... Kary will hate me if I tell her I don't think I can be her mother? I mean, legally?" I look up at him. "What do you think?""I think she'll love you either way, Arian." He re

She won't be in our lives anymore?""Yes, baby." I nod. "We're finally getting a divorce.""Yay!" She claps her hands excitedly. "Thank you, daddy!" She wraps her small arms around my neck."I guess this is my cue to leave." Lucille's voice cracks with emotion as she finally realizes that even her daughter doesn't want her around. "Goodbye... Kareena. Can I hug you?"Kary literally recoils from her, burying her face in my neck. I stroke her back to calm her down and gesture for Lucille to leave. Thankfully, she listens to me and walks away."Is she gone?" Kary asks."Yes, baby." I reply. "You won't see her again if you don't want to.""I don't want to see her again."
