TWO SIDES OF A COIN
“Ermmmm... Hello.” I stuttered my way through the sentence. This was so unlike me, I am usually the type of person that has the most to say, and to think that seeing the 'bar guy', yes, we are going to call him that seeing as I don't know his name is making me lost for words is rubbing me in some kind of way I don't find funny. My mom, of blessed memory, always said I talked ‘a thousand per minute.’
“And she speaks. That is a start." The guy stated and went back to looking at my C.V. My confusion bubbles into a new emotion- anger. Who is he to pretend like he doesn't know me? Well, two can play this game. I am going to ace this interview so well, that they will have no choice to employ me and I plan to make him miserable enough for him to learn some manners, then I will quit.
“Sorry about that. I had a bit of a moment of confusion. Saw something shocking minutes ago, but I am good and ready to ace this interview.” I mustered my ‘air hostess’ smile that I have been told elicits a smile from other people. The two interviewers smiled at me and nodded their head. The one amongst them I have come to know as Lydiv, smiled like she was indeed relieved I wasn't a mute. Who knows what the ogre of a boss would do to her if that was the case?
“Quite a rocky start for an interview you want to ace, if I must say.” The guy chipped in, causing the smiles on the other interviewers faces to fall. They suddenly began looking at the papers at their front like it was the most interesting thing in the room.
I suddenly became more irritated, who does he think he is to talk to me like that? Is he Bill Gates? So, because he is possibly a Director, what gives him the right to talk to people like fleas? Forget about the job, I need to put him in his place.
“Ever heard the phrase, don't put the cart before the horse? I would think you'll know that since you seem like such an intellect.” I replied snarkily to him, a saccharine smile fixed in place and my left eyebrow raised in challenge.
The guy gaped at me, and the other interviewers exchanged glances at each other, possibly shocked I spoke to him like that. Maybe he was used to having his way, he needs me in his life for a reality check.
“Well, Miss," He took a glance at the C.V and back at me again, “Violet Sanderson, let's get back the interview. Why do you think that you will be a good fit as a P.A for the company's CEO?”
“Well, for one, I am a very determined and goal-oriented person. Whenever I put my mind to things, I get it done. Also, I am a quick learner and also someone who is open to changes. I am quite vocal about things, and I feel like these are the qualities a good P. A should have.”
“Yeah, I think we got the vocal part.” The guy murmured under his breath, but to my hearing.
“I personally think that a lot of people think they want a docile person, but it gets boring when the person who follows you practically everywhere is just an empty barrel on legs. Do you think that the CEO of the company will want someone who cannot be a sounding board when he wants to make some hasty decisions on trips, I think not.” I replied.
“You really do say everything on your mind, don't you?” The guy asked.
I shrugged, ”Life's too short, keep it real always.”
The guy looked at me for a full one minute, then he looked like he was trying to place my face, before the look disappeared. He turned to the other lady, “Róse, do you have anything you need to ask her before we dismiss her?”
Rose looked at her paper before looking up at me, “So, I can see here that you studied at a prestigious Art University. Tell me why you are not pursuing something related to your dream?”
I took a deep breath in and flashed a smile. I knew this question was part of the questions they might possibly ask, but I didn't know that I was going to feel a type of way, maybe sadness, it's just all confusing.
“So, on the contrary I am doing something with my art, you just haven't heard of me yet. While passion is good, sometimes it requires taking a step back, while waiting for some things to take their course. So, right now that's what I am doing. Trying to channel the pent up energy left from bothering about Art all these years, to another thing.” I gave the answer closest to the truth. No need telling a bunch of interviewers I might never see again my life history.
“Seems fair, I definitely get what you mean.” Róse said.
“So, one thing I love is your confidence and I can see in your C.V you also took a couple of courses in different fields which proves for a fact that you are as versatile as you say you are. You will be hearing from us before the end of the week.” Lydiv inputted.
Genuinely, I wanted to ace this interview at the beginning until bossy blabber mouth, a maybe director, bar guy, got on my nerves. Now, I honestly had zero expectations regarding getting a positive feedback because all the attitude I showed; being overly confident, being somewhat rude to their maybe director, these things all made me seem like I was not going to be a good team player. I was sure Lydiv was just saying these things to be polite. The moment I'm out of this door, they'll be possibly shredding my C.V and I won't blame Lydiv and Róse, but, I sure will blame that cocky bar guy. He got me worked up in ways I haven't had someone crawl under my skin before.
“Ryan, I think that's all. If there is nothing else, can I call in the next interviewee?” Lydiv asked.
The bar guy whom I have come to now know Ryan, which by the name is a fitting name for a corky jerk paused his lips in thought, before he spoke, “Miss Violet Sanderson, it's been a pleasure and definitely an out of the box interview. Like Lydiv said, we'll get back to you before the end of the week. Have a pleasant day.”
I stood up, directed my smile at the other two ladies, and started walking out of the room. Under my breath I mouthed, “And you have an unpleasant day.”
“And Violet Sanderson?” Ryan called out my name when I got to the door and was about turning the door knob. Lydiv was right behind me, possibly to go call in the next candidate. I smoothened my expression and turned back to him, I noticed she too stopped in her tracks possibly wondering what he wanted to tell me after saying we were done with the interview.
“Yes?”
“I can still hear you.” He mouthed and pointed at the little microphone on his ear, and the mouthpiece dangling on my blouse that I was given by Lydiv immediately I walked into the room for the interview. Only him still had a microphone in his ear and I just said something so obvious that he knew I was talking about it.
A smirk crept up his face as I felt myself becoming red all over.
I hurried out of the room completely mortified.
I was beyond screwed.
*****************
“I hate him. I hate him. I hate him.” I said for the umpteenth time to my roommates since I came back from the interview. I remembered the smirk on his face and just feel like if I could wrangle his neck right now. He made me feel tiny by smirking and if I could have wiped that smirk off his cocky face, best believe me I would have.
“Violet, I am not a party pooper neither am I on the stop-the-hate-on-the-man train. But, it will be nice if we can know who you hate asides Connor, so we can all hate him together. Ain't I right, Annie?” Rainie turned to Annie who was in the Kitchen trying out a new recipe she learnt at culinary school so we could have it as dinner. She looked so serious as she folded the dumplings and I smiled, forgetting my anger at Ryan because I was just so proud of how close she has come to achieving her goals.
There was silence until she finished folding the last dumpling and plopped all of them into the point of boiling hot water, before she dusted her flour hands on her apron.
“I'm with Rainie on this. Let's know who you hate, so we can get on the internet, print pictures of him and throw darts on them. That way you can feel better.”
Alright, so, remember the night I broke up with that douchebag Connor. You know I came back raving about some guy that I met at the bar that refused to tell me his name?” I asked.
“Yeah, we remember.” Annie said.
“The one you called a hottie in five different languages?” Rainie asked, lifting her brows playfully earning a snicker from me.
“Yeah, that one. Anyway, turns out he works at Falcon Enterprises and he was part of the interviewers that interviewed me today.”
“So this is love.” Rainie sing song as she grabbed a clean spatula and started gyrating her hips around the living room.
I snorted, “Yeah, as if. Turns out he is a major A-hole and also corky. I wouldn't touch his nasty ass with a ten-foot pole. He was just so direct in his speech in a way that irked me. It was like he was a different person from the person I met at the bar, like that was his alter ego. Also, it annoyed me that despite him being a major pain, he was still so fine to look at! That is what I hate admitting.” I groaned whilst banding my head lightly on the kitchen counter.
Rainie grabbed her laptop from her room and came back to the living room. Putting it on the center table, she sat on the rug and flexed her fingers while her system was booting
“Tell me his name now and I am going to help you find him.”
“Ryan. That's all I know.” I replied her.
She grinned and started typing, “That's more than enough dearie."
We all have that one friend that we think missed their calling to work in the CIA or FBI because of how good they are at finding someone. Raine was that person in our friendship group.
After minutes of searching, she turned the laptop in my direction, “Is he the one?”
Indeed, yes, he was the one. The arrogant human was wearing an Armani suit and had his hand on his jaw lightly. He looked so good, not like I was willingly going to admit that right now.
“Yes, he is.” I replied.
She took the laptop back, concern evident on her face. After which she turned to me and said, “My dear, this is the CEO of Falcon Enterprises.”
“What? That isn't possible. The CEO is Marcus Falcon, last I checked yesterday.” I almost choked on my spit at her revelation. There was definitely no way what Rainie was saying is true.
“Yeah, that was yesterday. As of this morning, it was announced that his Son who has been away from the spotlight and under interim leadership training is now the new CEO of Falcon Enterprises. His name is Ryan Falcon.”
Suddenly all the dots connected in my head. No wonder the receptionist wished me luck. No wonder the interviewers were treading on thin ice with him. A lot of insiders must have known he was the new CEO before the news broke out and knew what he is like. This right now is like my life is a bad soap opera and I am the lead character who dies halfway to the end of the movie. I remembered how I said he should have a miserable day and he heard it. Everything is indeed over and there is no point crying over split milk.
I chuckled for a long time with my friends looking at me like I had gone bonkers.
“Guys, let's go clubbing tonight. I need a stiff drink because one thing is of certain. There is no way on this green earth that I am getting that job.”
After telling someone that was going to be my boss to have an unpleasant day, he must be bonkers to give me a job as his P.A.
**********************
My phone rang at a distance. I opened my eyes slowly, trying to get them adjusted to the harsh lightning in the living room. After clubbing last night, and taking a couple of shots too. The three of us stumbled back home and collapsed on the pull out couch. As I opened my eyes halfway, I noticed my friends sprawled in different positions on the couch.
I used my hands to feel on the couch for my phone and my fingers finally touched the cold object.
“Hello.” I said immediately I picked up in my coarse voice for shouting over the music.
“I believe I am speaking with Violet Sanderson. I just called to tell you that you got the job as the P.A to the CEO of Falcon Enterprises and you are to begin effective from Monday." The cheerily voice said like that was the best thing she had to say today.
My brain booted for a minute before I finally understood what she just told me.
The first thing that popped out of my mouth was, “I'm sorry, but why would I get the job?”
THE DEVIL WEARS ARMANI“I'm confused. Do you want the job or not? Most people are usually elated about getting this type of call.” The voice sounded like she was confused about me acting like this and from the questions she asked me, this was possibly the first time someone is acting this way. Well, that clearly makes the both of us dear. I definitely thought I bombed the interview, especially when I told him to have an unfortunate day, which he heard by the way, incase you don't get how absurd this is. So, imagine my surprise when he ended up giving the go ahead for me to be hired. If she was me, she too would be confused.“You don't understand,” I started because she really didn't, “I bombed the interview. Like it's like when a model falls face flat on an international walkway that is supposed to take her career to the next level with the judges watching. And the next day, when she thinks her career is over, she messed up, she gets a call that she won. That's exactly what happened t
HOT OR COLD- PICK A SIDE“What took you so long? We need to be at the Hotel Subsidiary in fifteen minutes. I don't know if you are aware, but I really detest when people don't keep to time.” These were the first words my Boss said to me immediately I got into the car.I wanted to flip him off in my head, but I remembered that sometimes one had to learn to be the bigger person. If there was one thing I was learning on this job, it is the ability to be patient because Ryan pushes all my buttons.I took a deep breath and said, “You might not know this since you have a driver who takes you everywhere. The transportation to that place is quite weird and buses are inconsistent, so I had to run to and fro to get your coffee which you told the receptionist to tell me to have after the hassle I went through to get it.”“The coffee was always for you. I need coffee to start my day and I thought you hadn't gotten yours because you came in late, so I assumed you overslept. I told you it was mine
HE HAS NO FILTER TOO.“I am so sorry sir.” I apologized profusely for the umpteenth time. After apologizing a dozen on the phone, I hurried over to the drycleaners and picked up his suit. I was currently at the office where he was at his desk peering over some files before he'll shower and head out to his private jet.“I say this once again. You seem to say everything you have in your head.” He muttered to my hearing and stood up from the desk, and went into the bathroom. I stood there lost on if to drop the suit on the coat rack and leave or if I wasn't yet dismissed? So for that reason I stood there rooted to the spot, until minutes after I heard the shower running. I felt a blush creep up my cheeks at the thought that just a door separating me from where he stood naked. I shook my head, as if to shake off my nasty thoughts. I never used to be this person that found anyone sexually attractive or desired to get romantically involved with anyone. My stint with Connor, yes I will call
You Don't Get to Treat people like Flies“Get out.” Were the first words that came out when the woman barged into his office.Ryan was back from his two-day trip from U.K. It's been two days since he accused me of being incompetent, and though it hurt, still hurts, I have decided to focus and just do my job. There was no need to have emotions at the job. I didn't have to like my boss enough to do my job and that's the way it has been. I gave monosyllabic answers to questions that required them and just agreed with whatever he said I should do. If he noticed a shift in me, he didn't point it out, which was better for me by the way. He was currently dictating some things he wanted me to do as he stepped out of the office for some hours. So, I was taking notes and nodding dutifully when the woman barged in. Bringing us to where we are now.“Oh! Ryan darlin', how could a son tell his mother to get out?” The woman said with such sadness in her eyes that my heart clenched for her. But, it s
You might have feelings for him“You quit?” Annie screeched whether in horror or in shock. I couldn't pinpoint which at this exact moment.I was narrating what transpired between Ryan and i yesterday evening to my friends this morning that prompted me to quit without so much as a glance behind or a reconsideration.“Yes, I did. Also, shouting about it is not going to change the fact that I quit already.” I placed my legs on the center table and tried settling in comfortably.“Get your legs off the table immediately.” She said, hitting my legs lightly until I took it off the table.I yelped, “Ouch! Can't you be kinder to me? I just lost my job. Also, my feet is clean. So I see no problem in putting them on the table.“You didn't lose your job. Don't say you lost your job like you got fired. You quit your job. That's a difference.” She pointed out.I groaned loudly and twisted my body like an earthworm that was poured salt, “It doesn't matter. I am still without a job.”“I still don't u
Am I Really Falling For My Insufferable Boss?“You would leave my office now, or else, I would disregard the filial bond we share and have the security throw you out like every other person who comes to this building and acts in an uncouth manner.” He said in a calm voice that didn't go with someone that was just slapped.“Oh, you would throw your father out of the office like a commoner just because I scolded you a little bit?” His Father asked.I eyes him wearily because there was nothing about the slap he gave him, in front of his P.A nonetheless that showed me that this was a little scolding. For him to slap him in front of his P.A, showed him he had no regard for him except I turned into a breathing statue moments ago that he saw me as an inanimate object.“We are not that close for your little scolding. Father, please leave, while I am still being nice. I was talking to my P.A before you stepped in.” Ryan said.It was then his Father turned and finally acknowledged me, the breat
I will be your ally“You're back already.” Annie asked immediately I stepped into the apartment. She had a free day today from the restaurant and she was really taking advantage of that as she was on cucumber face mask and sipping her margarita. Rainie would have been here with her because she loved things like this, but she had to travel for a two-day out of state job. So, it was just Annie and I now.“Yeah, I am. Boss gave me the rest of the day off.” I plopped down on the couch and tossed my handbag aside. If I give thought to what happened forty minutes ago, me hugging my boss, I could feel myself dying from mortification.“Wait, let me get this right. You got the day off, not that you were fired, right?” She sat up from the lounge chair where she was on the balcony receiving sunlight. The sliding door was open which was how we were able to converse properly without shouting over ourselves.“Yes, Annie, I got the day off. Besides, what's with you and Rainie if I get fired? Wha
He has a soft side underneath. The alarms in my head whirred that I was kissing my Boss, even worse, in his drunken state when he was not aware that he was kissing his P.A. I was the sober one, so I should be the most responsible one. At this realization, I attempted to pull away from him, but that proved futile as his large hands were splayed on my waist. My pullover hoodie had ridden up at this point and his fingers trailed on my exposed back as he deepened the kiss, that was when I lost the fight and melted like butter put on fire. It was like my limbs no longer belonged to me. This was hands down the best kiss I have ever received in my years in Earth.“Your lips are so addictive. I could have them forever and I won't be tired.” He said, moving his fingers up and down my waist seductively. I moaned in his mouth at his feathery touches, he made me feel things I haven't felt before. Ways I didn't know I could feel.If someone would have told me that
He Was Always Mine To Begin With“Wait, was that Ryan?” Loraine's voice rang from the speaker as I stared at my husband's retreating figure. I wished he said something than looking at me with such disappointed eyes that made my heart break. “Huh-Uh.” I mumbled so that she wouldn't hear my strangled cry that threatened to escape my lips.“Oh my goodness! This is bad. Really bad! He wasn't supposed to hear like that. Where is he?” She asked.“He just left. You know what? I'll call you back okay. I need time to...” I left my statement hanging, but what I needed to do was– cry my eyes out.“Okay, no problem. And in case he is pissed at you for this, I would come clean and tell him I roped you into it.”“Bye.” I told her not able to muster anything more than that. When I hung up, that was when the reality of what just happened hit me. Ryan got to know what we've been keeping from him, but not through the way I would have preferred. He heard it per chance and that was not what I wanted. It
How Could You Hide That From Me?One thing I didn't expect when I said ‘I do’ to Ryan was the turmoil and tons of secrets his family had. I didn't know how deep his father's hate for him ran, I didn't know that his step-mother I thought he was just needlessly antagonistic towards him was actually wolf in sheep's clothing, she was the spawn of Satan herself. Looking at his father and step-mother, I was amazed how they could raise such good kids with a good head on their shoulders. Must be the work of their grandparents.I was reminiscing what Loraine told me yesterday and I still couldn't come to terms with it.“Are you sure?” I asked her withdrawing my hands from hers in shock of what I just heard.“I am almost certain and over the years I am becoming certain that what I heard that night was true. I went out dead at night to drink water, when I heard them arguing in their room and their room door was ajar. I didn't hear parts of the argument, but what I heard loud and clear was when m
And It Was The Most Beautiful Experience EverI felt his tip of his penis at the entrance of my Vagina, and I drew in a deep breath. I was finally doing it. Losing my virginity after twenty-five years, almost twenty-six years seeing as my birthday was in few weeks time. This point, it felt thrilling to finally have sex with the person I love with all my heart, and it also felt scary because I heard the first time hurts. His eyes looked hungry, but still he said, “We can still wait if you want to.”I smiled and kissed him softly on his lips. When I withdrew from the kiss, I said, “My problem is that you worry way too much. I am sure.”“Okay then.” He replied. He unwrapped my legs from his waist, and spread them apart. Then, he came closer, towering over me. He began penetrating slowly with the tip of his penis, it was at that point I winced in pain.I closed my eyes, but he said, “Hey, Mi Todo, look at me.” At his command, I opened my eyes and meet his mesmerizing ones.As he was penet
No One Gets To Talk Bad About My Mom, Not On My Watch“Gr...Grandma?” Mrs. Gia sputtered, looking at I and Ryan in shock. My husband who I could see was also looking at me, trying to deduce if I knew what I was saying or if I was suffering from hallucination?“I am almost certain you are the one. I saw your postcard growing up with the name. I think it'll be rare for someone with the same three names to exist, too much of a coincidence? No?” I gave her a pointed look. Her features started changing as realization started sinking in that she just might be the right person.“Wait, are you Xavier and Juliet's child?” She asked mentioning the names of my parents.I nodded and she gasped, and staggered a bit. Holding the table next to her as a support. “It seems like you both have some catching up to do,” My husband said and pecked me lightly on my left cheek, before pointing at a corner, “I'll be over there in case you need anything,” Then in a whisper, he said, “Saying hello to pretenti
Could She be My Grandma? “Are you okay Mi Todo? You have been frowning since we woke up.” My husband asked me as we boarded the private jet back to New York. So, here's the thing, last night as he was running a very high temperature, I tried to shake him so he could wake up, he didn't open his eyes. I am not going to lie, I basically went through the five stages of grief thinking he had gone into shock. I ran downstairs in tears, down three floors to tell the receptionist that I think my husband is dying, then we went upstairs to check, on our way to I and Ryan's room, she informed me she was an ER nurse and was covering for her cousin who works here that had a family emergency. That made me a bit more calm and when we got upstairs, she checked his temperature which had reduced drastically by the way. She said it was probably stress and he'll be fine for morning. It was at that point my dearest husband decided to open his eyes, “Mi Todo, why aren't you by my side?” In a weak, cute vo
I Had Never Seen Him Cry“Okay, we don't speak for some days and next thing I know is my close friend and roommate has gotten married to a billionaire in a ‘low-profile’ ceremony in Vegas? She didn't see the need to say something like ‘Hey guys, I know you might be busy with life, but I am getting married?’ V, I have to say this is ludicrous and I am still trying to comprehend it?” Rainie said.I slowly disentangled myself from my husband arms, there was barely a moment we were in bed together and we weren't cuddling. It was an extreme sport, but I finally succeeded without waking him up.I tiptoed to the bathroom and continued my call with my friends.“Firstly, guys, I know no matter what I explain, it would never be a reasonable excuse why I didn't tell you both earlier. I am really sorry and truly everything happened so quickly, that before I could understand what was happening, we were married.” I explained to them hoping that it would soothe the rage I could see in their eyes.“I
I Said Yes To Eternity.“So, I got an Elvis Presley Chapel booked for the wedding tomorrow. Do you want to maybe go dress shopping today?” Ryan asked me as we lay on the bed ticking off things we needed for our wedding tomorrow. I was getting married tomorrow? It still felt surreal that hours back I said a yes to his proposal. I wanted to tell my friends, but in all honesty, I still felt like i needed a minute to understand the huge step I was taking tomorrow. I'll probably call them in the morning before I leave to the Chapel and tell them of my bold step and get their blessings. The truth was we actually just wanted to have something small. This was more of a promise to ourselves, than an actual wedding. “With the speed at which you are doing all these things, you were certain I was going to say yes, right? You probably had the contract or something?” I teased him. He was indeed moving with speed that it made me a tad bit suspicious that he just started this arrangement. I suspecte
I Must Be CrazyI burst into laughter, placing my ice cream sandwich on the empty space by my side which was already melting in my hands and making it sticky. Of all the jokes that my boyfriend has attempted to make, this was by far the funniest.“Oh, my goodness. That was such a funny joke. You are getting the hang of this emotions thing.” I hit his chest lightly with traces of laughter on my lips and attempted to pick up my ice-cream sandwich again. Vegas must be getting to him for him to play this kind of joke. I heard that being in Vegas often makes one act out of the ordinary. Coupled with the fact that he was still getting a hang of these emotions thing. He must be like a kid at an ice-cream parlour for the first time wanting to try out all the flavors.“I am not joking.” He said. I was about taking a bite of my ice-cream sandwich which half was already melted by the way when his voice stopped me short.“A prank, maybe?” I asked with hopeful eyes in light that though this might
Marry Me“A problem?” Ryan asked, coming off the bed. Whatever impending make out session suspended till when he might be able to deduce what had happened or is happening to turn out to be a problem.“Yes, it's Dad.” She said and I could hear the fear in her voice. At that point Ryan removed the phone from speaker and told his sister, “Give me a minute.” Then he turned to me and said, “Give me a moment, let me know what the problem is.”“No problem, take your time.” I said, managing a smile. The truth was that Ryan's father annoyed me and that is not because of the time he hit on me in Ryan's office, which was quite shameless of him by the way. But, the reason why he annoyed me to no end was because he didn't support Ryan as the CEO, and rather than just mind his flipping business, he found more ways to make Ryan's life incessantly difficult. From riling up the press against Ryan to finding ways to siphon money and frame Ryan for being an incompetent CEO. My boyfriend, God bless his h
