My hands remained clasped together as my gaze narrowed at him.

My heart was troubled, yet my gaze remained unwavering.

He lifted his eyes after a brief moment of silence and stared at the files as if he wasn’t the one who had conducted the test.

"Here is the result," he said, pausing to glance through the papers again.

The silence shredded my heart even more.

My gaze remained locked onto his.

My palms grew sweaty inside my pant pockets.

Nina remained calm, her eyes fixed on her phone, which she had been operating the entire time we waited.

"Ahhh," the doctor cleared his throat, prompting her to lift her gaze in his direction once more.

"The baby in her womb isn't Mr. James'..."

"Doctor, you’re joking, right?" she snapped, cutting him off mid-sentence. Her phone slipped from her hands, dropping onto the table in front of us.

"Madam, we are professionals here. We don’t joke about matters as delicate as this," the doctor declared.
