Chapter 66: "You're my last hope."

Malachi’s father takes me down into one of the wards in the hospital and all I can do is follow silently. Bridget’s words keep ringing in my mind, and I make my decision.

If I stay here all Malachi is going to do is blame me.

Skye will be certain to fan the flames and Sienna won’t say anything to stop that. I’m not going to be waiting around for that. Tonight is the only night I can get the Moon’s Tears fabric back and I can’t miss that.

The resolve forms in my stomach and makes my lip harden. My spine straightens. I stop walking and speak calmly, “Mr Finn. I won’t be here when Malachi comes back. There’s nothing you can say to stop me.”

Malachi’s father stops, and we are the only two people in this hallway… I realize that he could easily throw me into one of the rooms and lock me in there. A flight response begins to seep into my bones as Malachi’s father turns back. I kill the flinch I almost release at the last second. I’m being silly. Malachi’s father would never hurt me.
