Tricia POV
I woke up feeling elated. My thoughts went to my husband who I will be seeing for the first time. "Great goodness, make everything right." I prayed. With a song in my mouth, I went to take my bath. "Hello, yes he is coming today... I will know who that small businessman is." I heard my brother say while walking to prepare our morning meal. He was on a call. My eyes widened as I got to know that he was speaking about my supposed husband. I can't tell why, but I am shocked. What if he was selling me to his rival? I care less about it. Anyway, my life was just getting better or worse, but the fact is that very soon I will be out of this home. I have spent my 22 years living here with two years of hardship without my parents. I walked to the kitchen and began preparing what I needed to make for breakfast. My supposed husband would be here at any time, and this made my leg tremble. "Tricia!" I heard my name been called and looked back. Thankfully, it was Alex and not his girlfriend, Cherry. I requested for what he wanted and gave him. A smile was painted on his face, making me remember about what they were planning to do to my supposed husband. My mind went to how the man was going to look like, and I could just mumble some words. I began cleaning the house while Alex sat eating. My stomach ached, and I paused what I was doing to go and serve myself some food. "Where do you think you are going?" Alex asked. "To get some food as my legs aches," "Get back to whatever you were doing," he said. "You don't need to put on weight before your husband sees you." My heart skipped a beat. Was he trying to starve me or is he punishing me? I shook my head looking at him. Not regarding his warning, I walked into the kitchen and began to eat directly from the pot. Going through the stress of getting a plate could result in me not eating. As I was about taking the fifth spoon into my mouth, I received a punch making the spoon to fall. Alex dragged my hair, pushing me to the ground as he ordered that I continue cleaning. With that, he collected the kitchen key and left to lock it. It gave me joy that I had something in me, although it wasn't enough. I wasn't listening to Alex's screams as I continued my duty. At a point, I wanted to scream back at him, but I guess I would save it till my supposed husband came. All I could pray for is for the man to be good. A knock on the door, and it was Cherry. "I would like to be here when your darling husband will come." My eyes blinked as she said the word, darling, but I still had to behave like her portion was working. Alex called for her, and although he spoke to her in a whisper, I could hear because I was close to them. He told Cherry of how I forced my way into the kitchen and ate. Cherry looked at me and asked my reason for disobeying Alex as I promised to obey them. While she was still at it, we heard a knock on the door. Alex walked to open it, and we saw a tall man with broad shoulders standing. "Good day, what's your name?" Alex asked, obviously that he didn't know who he was. The man had a dark eyeglass worn on his face, "I am Morgan Bliss." Hearing this made both Alex and Cherry smile. "Come in," Cherry said. I stared at the man. My body shook as I looked at him. He was handsome and looked like a fighter. "Hi, pretty one," he said with a wink. "I believe you are smart." I nodded my head but didn't understand why he said that. "We've deliberated on what we want from you," Cherry said, handing him a note. He gave me an awkward look then handed the note to me, "You planned this list." My eyes couldn't believe what they had written here. For a man running a small organization, this was a lot. Alex smiled, pulling me closer. He told Morgan that we agreed to it. My heart ached as I refused. "You promised to obey me," Alex whispered to me. "Well, your plan will never work," I said. "I didn't drink the god-damn liquid." Alex wore a shocked expression, looking at Cherry but before he could speak, Morgan spoke. "I guess I need to eat," He said. Cherry smiled telling me to get his food, but he stopped me saying a bride doesn't work on her day. This made Cherry angry as she left to the kitchen. Morgan lovingly ordered for two plates, mine and his. I stared at my lovely husband but he kept his eyes away from me. After the meal, Morgan asked that a room be prepared for him as he would be sending the night over only to leave the next morning with his bride. I was excited by this behavior and saw the fear on the dual's face. Morgan began to press his phone then looked at Alex, "I have sent you some money." "This isn't enough," Alex protested. "It's enough to feed you for a year and get you a business, you lazy fellow." A smile formed on my face but was short-lived as Morgan turned to me and told me to go to my room. "You only come out when I call you for dinner." My heart was joyful as I left to my room hearing Cherry's murmur. "He isn't what we chose," I heard Cherry say to Alex as I had my ear on the wall. "He is arrogant and poor." "Well, I am glad Tricia's husband isn't wealthy."Tricia's POV I stayed in the room patiently as instructed by my supposed husband. I heard all Cherry said about him and prayed that he would be nice to me and not give in to their demands. Soon, I drifted off and slept, but my sleep wasn't as sweet as I wanted, it was interrupted by a knock on my door. I got up with determination to talk back to whoever was at my door. By this, I would get to know if they fear my husband. Opening the door with my mouth opened to shout at whoever it was, I closed it when I saw the tall figure standing next to me. "Morgan!" I looked at his face. Why was he here? "Do you want anything?" "I just want to see your face." I stared at him, confusion written all over my face. Anyway, he was my husband, so I let out a smile. "I am tired." "You should be." He raised my head. "You should get back inside." Such a weird behavior. Did he only come to see my face? I guess I am no longer sleepy. It felt boring to stay in the room, guess it's because
Tricia POV: I have been working all day in the house. Tears streamed down my face as I remembered that he was my brother. The cell phone rang, and I was about to pick it up. "Do not lay a finger on that phone," Alexander said barging out of the room. "Move away." I moved away with tears in my eyes, but still could see him look at me and I knew what it meant. Immediately, I walked to another room but not without spying on him. He fumbled his hands before picking up the phone. I could sense that he was nervous. After the call, he stared around and then picked up his personal phone. I stared although I didn't know what he was saying. All I knew was that he was scared. I left to continue what I was doing. "You daughter of a whore, come here," my brother called me. That was the way he normally called me since he knew that I wasn't birthed by his mother. I answered him politely as I had no one to stand for me. His girlfriend, who had always shown me her love, changed to me after
Tricia POV:"What do you me to do?" I asked him. He looked at me with a smile on his face. Staring at me, he reminded me of how his parents loved me more than him. He told me of how he always thought that I was his sister, but changed after knowing that I am not his sister. "I hated you from the beginning, but more now that I know who you are." I stayed mute, and my anger grew. If only I had a place to run to I would have. He blamed me for his parents' death. How am I to kill the people who cared for me? I am a harmless being, and doubt I could do such a thing. "What do you want me to do?" I asked silently. "Ah!" I allowed a small shout to escape my mouth as I felt his slap sting a bite on my cheek. He got up and left to his living room. I looked up as I imagined the reason he called me. My knees were hurting but I knew not to stand up. Alex was going to kill me if I ever got up. Soon, he walked out of the room with a folder. "I need your signature on this," he said. I l
Tricia POV I stood by the window the next day, looking at what was going on. It was expected for me to come out, but Alex had told me to stay inside. He was angry when he told me that, and I wondered why. Picking up his phone, I could see him angrily yell at someone, he was angry and I knew it. I walked back to my bed, happy. Thankfully, Cherry had left for her house early this morning which meant I could have some breathing space. I remembered how she was while we were in high school, she loved me like no other, and stopped my brother whenever he wanted to attack me but as they say, people change. Cherry suddenly changed to me during her final year. She was no longer loving and caring towards me. Everything I did was useless to her, and she reported every one of my moves to my brother who had just begun college. Our parents died when I was in my third year of college, and this made me sad. Alex stopped my education after their death, but I was lucky to be granted scholarshi
Tricia POV I sat in my room, a bit relieved from the pain in my knees. My phone was with me. I opened a picture we had once took as families. "Father!" I called touching our father's face. My heartbeat hastened as I remembered how his mother loved me. Now I understand the reason she loved me so much. I had no mother so it was paramount that she took care of me neither does she have a daughter so she was bound to love me. She wasn't like her son. "How could she love me, like that?" I asked myself, thinking of how we played often. Father had tried all he could to reduce how we played, but Mother always told him, "Since Alex doesn't want to play, I would do that with Tricia." My eyes grew tensed as I looked at how we stood. Alex by my side then mother holding Dad. My eyes flew to the clock and I let out a sigh of relief.Hours later, Alex was back with Cherry. He was drunk and staggered as he walked. Looking at me, he let out a spit to my face. "I hope you've prepared lunch," Ch
