Chapter 8

Evelyn's POV.

As he glided through the hall, his chiseled features and piercing green eyes commanded attention. His sharp jawline, prominent cheekbones, and full lips crafted a masterpiece of masculine beauty.

His tailored suit accentuated his broad shoulders and a lean physique, exuding confidence and power. Raven-black hair framed his face, perfectly styled.

Yet, an icy demeanor tempered his captivating appearance. His eyes seemed to hold a thousand secrets, none of which he'd share.

“My goodness, this is my first time seeing him in person. I knew he would be more charming than the rumor claimed.” Someone said in a daze.

Despite the frosty exterior, women's eyes widened as he passed. Whispered sighs and stifled gasps filled the air. Heads turned, mesmerized by his majesty.

A subtle smile played on his lips when he turned to his mother, but his eyes remained frozen, unreadable. He was a statue of perfection, unattainable and unyielding.

As he walked, the room parted like a sea, people swaying to clear his path. His presence was a force of nature, awe-inspiring and intimidating.

“Are you in love already?” The lady in black dress whispered to me. I spared her a glance and she winked. “I told you that you'll fall in love immediately you see him for yourself,” she repeated.

I moved my gaze back to the enigmatic stranger, the Alpha King. He looked just like Dylan with the same facial features, yet his face was void of any emotion. This had to be a misunderstanding. Dylan had no wealth, and he was no one with power or status. I never got any impression that he was someone of great power when I was with him.

He was always quiet, calm, and gentle even in bed. He never acted against me, and although we never had any real conversations, he had always been flirtatious and eager to please, almost debauched.

However, the man who just walked in was nothing like the man I knew. He was aloof, cold, and distant. His presence commands respect and for all my life I have never seen anyone with this much power.

Perhaps I was hallucinating, and there was only one way to find out. I reached for my phone as slowly as I could, and scrolled through the number, looking for a specific number that could explain what was currently happening.

I froze in place and the air on the back of my neck raised as goosebumps crept to my arms. Instinctively, I lifted my head only to see a pair of gunmetal eyes staring back at me.

My breath caught in my throat and my heart skipped a beat as I met the Alpha King's gaze, and it felt like time has slowed down, leaving just the both of us caught in a trance.

I placed the phone on my ear and waited for the line to connect while keeping my gaze locked on the man in front of me. I scrutinized my gaze, hoping to get a reaction, but I got nothing as his face remained blank.

“Thank the Moon Goddess,” I sighed, feeling a sense of relief washed over me as I attempted to end the call but the line suddenly connected.

My face turned pale, and my stomach lured as the Alpha King gently placed the phone on his ear and the words from the other end of the phone made me jerk back in utter fear.

“Speak!” That word alone made my throat dry and my eyes widened in horror. Without hesitation, I ended the call, my hand shaking in trepidation.

How could this be possible?

Fear gripped my heart and I closed my eyes to fight the nauseous feeling, but memories of that night came rushing back instead. I remembered everything vividly.

Seth has announced his relationship with Veronica that night and their betrayal. He left with Veronica to another country. I had been hurt to the extent that it became hard to breathe.

My best friend–Adeline had convinced me to go to a nightclub and I carved the distraction. I wanted every means to forget everything that happened to me, and before I could realize it, we had drunk too much and Adeline had ordered for male models.

And Dylan had been among them and I had spent a night with him. I only intended to spend the night with him but the moment I woke up to see how good-looking he was, I had decided to keep him and that was my biggest mistake.

Moving him into one of my villas, giving him a monthly allowance of 100,000. His response had been straightforward and ever since then I'd visited him whenever I felt like it, and we’d always end up in bed.

We never asked each other too many questions or felt curious to know more about the other person. Our unspoken agreement was just to enjoy each other. But now, it turned out to be the most reckless thing that I had ever done.

Keeping him and having those nights with him…

I had been planning to end the illicit relationship when I realized that I had already fallen into his trap all along.

How could I be so impulsive? Keeping a man I knew nothing about for three years and discovering that he was the Alpha King? The world was really working against me in every way possible.

Tearing my gaze away, I made my way to the bar, brushing through the crowd to get as far away from him as possible.

“Whiskey,” I ordered, and the bartender nodded in response. My hands clenched in frustration as I tried to calm my racing heart but all to no avail. What would this change?

Recalling our last conversation on the phone and seeing him now, I could tell that things were going to be more difficult than it was.

“Here's your order,” the bartender slid the drink towards me on the counter and I wasted no time in gulping it.

Seth's POV

“My love, I'll come to you tonight, but I just need to finish up something,” I pressed a finger to my temple as exhaustion tugged on my eyelids.

I was already getting drained and not to forget that I had got a cold last night. “I told you that my father wanted me to do something for him. There's a lot to do and my absence in the Pack for three years is a lot. I still need to catch up on some things. But don't worry, I'll get you your favorite chocolate cake before coming over tonight,” I added when the silence stretched from the other end.

The call had been going on for minutes now, and I still had to return to the hall to meet the Alpha King.

Few more minutes and I ended the call before returning to the hall. I quickly spotted Evelyn at a corner and I made my way towards her, but suddenly the room became quiet, almost as if someone had muted the sounds.

Footsteps ensued, and the sound echoed in the silence. Everyone turned to the entrance and I followed instinctively.

A tall man, well-built and dressed in expensive clothes matched in and tension hung in the air. As I drew closer, my eyes widened in disbelief. There was only one word to describe my situation and that was 'Doom'.

I could still remember him clearly. The man who had been my professor in the heir course and also the reason I was yet to graduate. My face burned in shame as I recalled how he humiliated me in public during his class, calling my abilities mild and best suited for an omega.

He was the bane of my existence and ever since that class, I had been ostracized and ridiculed because of him. My hatred for him was rooted deep, and I cursed the day I bow to him. Nevertheless, the universe just had to curse me by making him the Alpha King. Securing the project is rop priority and If the only way to get the project is to ask Evelyn for help, then so be it.

Heaving a sigh, I looked back at Evelyn, but she was no longer at the corner. Where was she?

My eyes darted around the hall until I found her seated quietly at the bar. She looked vulnerable and lost in thoughts.

“Something wrong?” I asked when close enough. She gradually lifted her head to look at me.

“I'm heartbroken and upset,” she replied with a shrug, yet her eyes swirled with emotions.

Rubbing the nape, I cleared my throat while contemplating for a while. She reached for another drink again, but I instantly placed my hand on the glass to stop her.

“Can…” I started, almost stuttering. "Could you go talk to the Alpha King for me later?”
