Battling

He crouched down, ready to spring forward. The last wolf, the smallest of the three, stayed still. He didn't even bother to lift his muzzle to scent the air. Katrina smiled.

Slowly, she crept forward until she was within earshot.

The leader of the pack raised his voice and let out a command. “Let him be!” he growled harshly in reply.

The second wolf nodded. He nudged his companion. The latter hesitated, but finally lowered his nose to the ground, sniffing softly at the unconscious male.

The third wolf moved to stand beside the first. His gaze was fixed on the alpha of the three.

Katrina smirked. She was pleased that these rogues had underestimated them. She hadn’t. And now it was her time to show them.

Katrina waited patiently as the wolves surrounded the body of their captive, lifting it onto their shoulders. She kept her distance until they disappeared into the dark woods. She waited another moment and then followed in their wake.
