"That's hard to answer. We first need to find whoever did it and ask them how to reverse it."
"That's going to be hard considering hunter bosses are coming to town, putting me in danger. Also, I didn't think whoever did this would care enough to come to look for me in fear of my life. It seems like we have to find a different solution to this."
"Wait. What did you just say? There are ancient hunters in town?" Max seemed in thought, "No wonder your dad has all those gun collections in the basement with different weird liquids," he said, thinking of the day they sneaked at the basement and found the armory. Yeah, it looked like a whole army armory.
"Dad is a ranger and needs those weapons for animal attacks. And we help sometimes." Jason smiled for a bit. He trusted Max with his secrets, but sometimes it's good to have something to yourself. Besides, his dad was working with the government as a ranger.
That would make sense to anyone. They didn't talk much on their way home, with so many things happening simultaneously. They passed by the clinic to see Max's mom, a nurse in the small-town clinic.
"Mum. Something bit Jason and we were afraid it would be infected. Could you please look at him?' Max called his mum aside and asked him. Though there were so many people around, they could not hear what they were talking about
"Sure. Come with me." Mrs. Mapendo laughed at his son's behavior and called on Jason to follow her to the next room. She asked him to show her the wound. Jason unbuttoned his shirt to reveal the shoulder. Max, who was at the side, popped his eyes open, looking at where he saw the wound a few days ago. It was bad.
"What?" Jason asked his friend, looking at him
"What the hell?" Max asked, taking a step to look at the spot again
"If you boys want to play a trick on me, please don't do it at work. Go home and don't try this again" Mrs. Mapendo looked at the supposed injured place and found nothing. It was a clean shoulder like it had never had a scratch before. She looked at the two of them and shook her head.
The two of them looked at each, shocked. They were innocent. The picture it showed looked like two boys pranking on an older woman.
"What the hell?" Max was stupefied
"Don't look at me. I didn't do any of it. I am surprised as well" Jason shrugged his shoulder, looking at the accusing gaze Max was throwing at him.
"That could not be a good sign."
"I know," answered Jason with a depressing look.
The two walked home, going to their respective homes. Jason walked into the house to find his parents' home preparing dinner.
"Hey, young man. You are home late again" Mr. Mackenzie looked at his son, smiling. This was his second day missing their training.
"I know. I had a walk home with max, and we passed by his mom's workplace," Jason answered, smiling back. He loved his parents the most. He went upstairs, took a shower, and returned to join the family for dinner. In the middle of dinner, the doorbell rang, and Mr. Jayer, full of food in his mouth, went to open the door.
He was smiling but showed a displeased look when he saw the person at the door. He hid it immediately and opened the door. He threw his wife a knowing look when the older man went inside. He didn't wait to be invited. He entered immediately after the door was opened.
"It seems I came just on time. Aren't you going to invite me for dinner?" he asked, looking at the two people looking at him.
"Welcome, Mr. Frank"
"Oh, thank you" The old man went to the dining table and sat down. He took a plate and served himself.
There was tension on the table. Jason noticed it and didn't ask anything. The older man was new to him.
"You must be Jason. Quite a big boy now. Do you go to DustVille High school?" the old man looked at him and asked.
"Yes, sir." He answered, eating his food. He didn't know why but there was a fearing feeling coming from down there.
"That school produced the best in town. I went there so many years ago. Is Mr. Dixon still the head teacher?" Jason looked at him and answered
"No. Mrs. Becky, his daughter, is running the school."
"Aah, she is also a nice child" He looked deeply at Jason. There were signs of sweat on Jason's face.
"Are you okay, son?" Jason greeted his teeth in pain but answered him. He felt like the whole of his body was paining him. He placed both his hands under the table and looked at them. The nails were elongating. He had to make a fist to try and hide it.
"Excuse me. I am feeling sick. I'll take a rest," he said, tightening the fists and putting the hand inside his jumper.
"Are you okay? I can help look at you. I know a bit about medicine" Jason stopped in his tracks as the old man tried to stand on his feet. His eyes were changing, but he didn't know that. He could see a bit differently. He didn't turn and declined the offer.
"I will be alright. Just A bit of rest."
"I insist" the old man took steps towards him. Mr. Jayer, on the other hand, was irritated. He walked to the old man and stood in front of him.
"Mr. Frank, my son said no. Please respect his wishes."
He didn't say a thing and looked meaningfully at the husband and wife and smiled after a while. It was creepy. He threw a last look at the stairs and went back to his seat.
"How have you been these years? I haven't heard from you in a long time. Well, things are going to change around here for a while. My family is moving back here." He said, looking at the two people.
"It has been years, but it seems they are back. The number of people dying around is alarming. It's time to get rid of them for the safety of people." He took a bike of a chicken wing before dropping the rest on the plate and wiping his mouth. Frank looked at them and asked something weird."How is your son. Has he been injured lately?" he seemed to be insinuating something. Both Jayer and Miriam looked at each other and shook their head in confusion."He has been home early, and all the time, he was fine." Mr. Jayer Mackenzie answered, looking surprised and worried at the same time. Is there something we should be worried about" he asked again afterward? He knew his son came home the previous night smelling of blood, but the tricky man had something up his sleeves."Ohh, nothing. It's just that there was a fight between an animal and a man in the wood, which seemed to happen last week. The only people around that area seemed to be your son, his friends, and some few fellows from scho
"I never asked for this. I am supposed to be a hunter, but now, I am a wolf-hunter living with hunters, and we are required to hunt the wolves down. What will happen when they find out about me?" Jason could not help but ask about it. It had been playing around in his mind the entire day."Okay. I will be training you from tonight in the woods. We have to be careful not to be caught, but you need training as soon as possible. That's the only way you could survive and also know how to escape the ancient hunters." Damian said before jumping out the other window"Hey, wait" Before he could finish whatever he was saying, his dad and mum opened the door."Who were you talking to?" Jayer asked, looking around the room. Miriam sniffed the room and looked at his son knowingly. It seemed she perceived something and didn't want to believe it."Honey. Are you alight?" Miriam asked her son and hugged him." Ohh, dear, I know what you are going through. Don't worry. We are here for you." Mrs. Macke
"I think you are ready, but you have to come to me earlier during the full moon. We need to find a place for you to survive until you know how to control the body and the changes. The last one didn't go well, and you almost ripped your friend part. This time I will be in charge, and no more arguments." Damian said before disappearing in front of him. He was too fast.Just as Jason walked out of the wood to go home, he met men with guns. The red lights spread all over the woods. He ran in the opposite direction, but he seemed to have spotted."There he is. Get him." He was too far to see who they were, but he knew for a fact they were the hunters."Ancient hunters. Damn," Jason cursed, running while hiding in blind spots"He went south get him. Don't let him go. They are monsters. Be careful not to be caught by them." Frank said. Jason knew the voice and was scared. That guy was a devil reincarnate. He would kill his family member without blinking if they ever turned into any of the mo
"Wow. I didn't know you have records of supernatural beings in DustVille" Jason was speechless. How much did his parents hide from him? It seems he was in the dark all along. "Wait, that is Mr. Markings, the janitor at school. He is a vampire. Come on, mom, how can it be true?" Jason was skeptical, looking at the middle-aged man in the old book and the one at school. He was always a loner and worked late in the evening and night at school."He is one of the nice ones and protectors of town," Miriam said, looking through the different photos."There he is. That is the man" she pointed at the photo, and Jason seemed confused. The man was an inferno."An inferno. What does he want with me?" Jason asked, looking at his mom. On the other hand, Miriam trembled slightly when she saw the name."His name is Willis. He was one of the best infernos and worked with hunters, but Frank betrayed and tried to kill him. I don't know why he is after you, but you must be careful. His presence means dan
The trio entered the class, and Jason was stunned to see the most beautiful woman seated ahead of his seat. He parted Max on the shoulder and walked to his designated desk, but before that, he stood in front of the girl and extended his hand."Hello beautiful, my name is Jason.""Hi, nice to meet you too. My name is Alicia," she answered with an amused smile. She didn't want to embarrass the guy and shook his hand.Jason went to his seat and looked at the beautiful figure before him. He didn't know why but since he saw her in the vehicle that day, he thought of her a lot. He could not control his desires and feelings about a strange girl."Man, what was that about? Max, the curious one, asked as soon as he sat next to Jason."That was the beauty I told you about a few weeks ago.""Wow. She is indeed a beauty?" Max commented, looking at the figure before them"Attention, today's classes have been postponed. Something happened at the school, and we are requested to close the school inde
"Yes. I am going out on a date to a party. This is my first date, so don't bother telling me about the warnings and the danger. I will cross the bridge when I get there." Jason said to his friend before parting ways with Max."I will be coming along with you," Max shouted back to Jason when the other lifted his thumb in acceptance."Hello, family. I am home." Jason shouted as soon as he opened the door. No one answered. He called out to them."Dad. Mom, are you guys home?" he asked, looking around the house. Everything seemed normal. "That's weird. They all work half-day. They should be here by now," he said to himself, going to his room. He dropped the back on the bed and was ready to take a shower when he heard the front door opening, and laughter rang throughout the house."Hello, guys. You freaked me out." Jason said, looking at the beautiful woman and man before him"Come one, son. Can't I take my beautiful woman out on a lunch date?""Sorry, but I just found it very rare not to
"It seems they were here a few hours ago" Jayer squatted down and checked on the prints on the ground. Miriam smelled the soil and nodded at Jayer, showing him leaving. "Let's go left." He said, and Frank looked at him, then at Miriam before nodding. They followed left, and sure that was the right track. The other prints were there to mislead them. They had walked for about three hours before reaching the end where the last track was seen."It ends here," Jayer said, looking at the print. It was the same as the others, but here, there were around four of them."How many do you think there are out there?" Frank asked, looking down. He was the one that trained Jayer, so he knew how well Jayer was versed in numbers and tracking."It should be five," he said, looking at the prints on the ground. It was like he could see invisible footsteps that others could not see."Then let's head to this residential area. Just as they walked a few steps, the hunters at the back were screaming as figur
"Let's go" he shouted as he ran through the backyard"Hey, what's happening?' Mike called on to him, but Jason didn't look back. He knew they would not hurt others but him. They were coming for him."What's happening?" Alicia asked while running along. She was a trained hunter and knew when there was danger. She knew there was one at that moment but didn't know what it was."They are called infernos. Very dangerous," Jason answered, jumping over the fence. He helped Alicia up and ran across the street while hiding. He turned around and could sense them after him. How could infernos be at the party? And there were many of them. What did they want with him? They ran to his house and hid inside the house. The house was fortified with special enchantment in his mother's place. The infernos or supernaturals would not enter. And he would not go out as well unless his mom allowed it."Why are they after you?" Alicia looked at Jason and asked. She was full of doubt. Being a trained hunter,
The two were in their own world and didn't notice the looks threw at them. Soon, there was claps and applause as people shouted in happiness. That brought them back to reality" My friend is getting married" Leo was the first to react to them. He was so happy. You will think he was the one getting married insteadFour weeks passed in a blink of an eye as the two love birds get their vow exchanged in front of the people in the banker. They didn't have to register their marriage the situation didn't allow them to.With the celebration and gathering of the people loved was enough for themLater, they all resumed training. All this weeks, people were being trained by Miriam while she also made spells and protective talisman to help when they needed to escape when in danger. They didn't realize how powerful she was. There was something she was hiding. Worry was eating her up, sooner or later, she will have to reveal the truth to JasonHis powers were be
The one who was shocked the most was Miriam. She used a bit of her power to do a trick she had learned over the years. Camouflaging with the environment disappearing from the view of the enemy. It was a trick that saved her life so many times. What did she saw a shock in her life? She knew too well about some of the creatures. Those were her darkest secrets. But for how long was she going to keep them.Being out of danger for a moment, the group proceeded with their journey back to the shelter. It was hectic when they got back. The people in the room had fought. The reason nobody knew"Prepare tables. Get me the guns with the monkshood powder as well with the blue frame fire source." Miriam was at her wit when they got back.Seeing the people turning into wolves, some of the people were scared and ran to the end of the room. They had never seen a werewolf up-close. Though they knew of their existence, they never interacted, and if they did was a chase and
The group was getting overwhelmed. It was hard to run with the rest of the group incapacitated. Thinking of something, Miriam asked the young girl to let Jason down before performing a few hand seals. A huge light appears and then disappears. From where they stood, there was nobody. They vanished into thin air.The cloud and a few flying creatures appeared where they were in a few minutes, but there was no one. Not even their scent. It was like they never were there in the first place.A distorted voice was heard from behind a group of dark creatures"Where are they?" an old man appeared. He removed the veil over his face exposing his bare face. It was Frank, the Patriarch of the ancient hunter family. He looked like he was dying. His skin had deteriorated, and his face was becoming thorny. What was happening to him nobody knew other than himself"You are all useless. You have the key right under your nose, and you let him go. You have to fi
Then things started going south slowly. As they ran, sharp pains hit them. It began with Alicia trying to run further, but the pain was getting down on her. It was getting too painful to bear with it. Sweat had formed on her forehead. His eyes completely turned blue. She felt electrocuted and almost dropped to the ground. She tried to move, but her body seemed to have been paralyzed. She dropped with a thud alerting Jason and the others."Alicia." He shouted, running back. He let go of the girl's hand and tried to check on Alicia. She was turning. Her eyes were blue and long fangs were coming out. Even her claws were showing. She greeted her teeth in pain, but it was not enough."What's happening?.. What the heck… what's wrong with my daughter" Patrick approached them and asked. The sight before him terrified the whole of his body. In all his imagination, he had seen his daughter as a werewolf."What's happening to her is happening to me as well." Damian
It wasn't long before the group appeared at the front door. Making sure to spray the powder on the door, the group run in a certain direction. Patrick was at the lea with Miriam. They had worked together before. It was easier working synchronizing their movements. The rest of the hunters were behind them while Jason and his group followed suit. The young girl was close to Jason, not giving him space. It was good for safety, but Alicia was getting pissed. She could not understand the feeling. It was stronger over time, more so when Jason held her hand or showed concern for her.It was almost dark, and soon it will be way dangerous to run the street at night, but the group came prepared. Having hunted at night before, it was easier to do the same at the moment. Besides, they had the best night vision gear with them.Running through the streets, not alarming the enemy, the group appeared at the said location an hour later. It was quite a distance. Even if they had
Before Jason talked further with the girl, an announcement came"Listen up, everybody. Report just in. A group of people is stuck in an old building on the west side of town. It's quite a distance from here. We need volunteers to help with the rescue. We need ten people," Patrick announced, looking at the device in his hand.Jason looked at the people and then at the girl. He patted her shoulder, intending to go, when the girl suddenly held his sleeves, not giving him room to react. He was surprised and then confused. She looked scared"I have to go and volunteer. You will be safe here," Jason explained quietly why he was leaving, but the girl was not letting go of the shirt. She shook her head vigorously, but he could not understand."Can I get a piece of paper and pen?" Jason asked around since he could not let himself go. He had to listen to what she was saying. He felt he needed her, and she needed him. The brotherly love kicked in. He had always been
Damian had thoughts about her for years, but then she married Jayer, who unfortunately died weeks back. He could not bring himself to ask her out of bed yet. But he had that in mind. He wanted to do it many times but held back. For now, he had to stop and concentrate on whatever thing was attacking them. He has a long time to proceed with it."Well, we notice that the creatures are distracted but not for long. So we have been using it to cover our scents as we try to evacuate the trapped people in different buildings. But now, almost everyone has been caught in the soulless web. " Evelyn looked at the woman before them and answered she could not deny no matter how many years had passed. She is still as beautiful as ever.Jason stood between the group holding Alicia's hand, when he felt someone approaching him from behind. His senses were ever strong. It was hard for someone to attack him from behind. He turned just in time to see someone extending his arm to pat him on
"We don't have time for this. You, of all people, should know we need to work together now more than ever." Evelyn dragged her husband aside, reasoning with him. They have been through a lot even to get where they were.Patrick signed, thinking of everything."Dad. All these people are nice and good. They have not harmed me even after I killed Jason's father." Alicia approached her father, trying to reason with him. She had not seen him in weeks, and he had lost weight. They must've been through a lot. She looked around. There were hundreds of people in the bunker. Some were from high school. Some were the town people. It must've taken them long to get all those people to one place."It's okay, let them in" Patrick sighed and let his daughter handle everything. Alicia looked around and didn't see the figure she was looking for. "Dad, where is grandpa?" she turned around only to see a sour face. He didn't answer, but she could sense a murderous aura. There was an
"What's happening? What with all those people" Carly asked, peeping at the street before them. Hundreds of people were walking like zombies. Some were standing like a statue with total no movement."I think the town is gone. Everyone is dead." Max said, looking at the people before them. They walked to the street slowly, ready for anything. It was daytime but too quiet to be safe. Miriam held her Katana while the other had different weapons. The werewolves had their claws out in case of anything. Everyone was in battle mode—Ready for anything. The first person they met was an old woman. She was short and wore a woolen hat, a long green crocheted sweater, and an old walking stick still in her hand. She wasn't moving, just stood there looking down.It was Ms. Sally. She has a grocery store just around the corner. She was a nice older woman with no family, just living alone. It was a pity she was a victim of the evil infesting the town. Her face had no expres
