Uninvited Guests

"That's hard to answer. We first need to find whoever did it and ask them how to reverse it."

"That's going to be hard considering hunter bosses are coming to town, putting me in danger. Also, I didn't think whoever did this would care enough to come to look for me in fear of my life. It seems like we have to find a different solution to this."

"Wait. What did you just say? There are ancient hunters in town?" Max seemed in thought, "No wonder your dad has all those gun collections in the basement with different weird liquids," he said, thinking of the day they sneaked at the basement and found the armory. Yeah, it looked like a whole army armory.

"Dad is a ranger and needs those weapons for animal attacks. And we help sometimes." Jason smiled for a bit. He trusted Max with his secrets, but sometimes it's good to have something to yourself. Besides, his dad was working with the government as a ranger.

That would make sense to anyone. They didn't talk much on their way home, with so many things happening simultaneously. They passed by the clinic to see Max's mom, a nurse in the small-town clinic.

"Mum. Something bit Jason and we were afraid it would be infected. Could you please look at him?' Max called his mum aside and asked him. Though there were so many people around, they could not hear what they were talking about

"Sure. Come with me." Mrs. Mapendo laughed at his son's behavior and called on Jason to follow her to the next room. She asked him to show her the wound. Jason unbuttoned his shirt to reveal the shoulder. Max, who was at the side, popped his eyes open, looking at where he saw the wound a few days ago. It was bad.

"What?" Jason asked his friend, looking at him

"What the hell?" Max asked, taking a step to look at the spot again

"If you boys want to play a trick on me, please don't do it at work. Go home and don't try this again" Mrs. Mapendo looked at the supposed injured place and found nothing. It was a clean shoulder like it had never had a scratch before. She looked at the two of them and shook her head.

The two of them looked at each, shocked. They were innocent. The picture it showed looked like two boys pranking on an older woman.

"What the hell?" Max was stupefied

"Don't look at me. I didn't do any of it. I am surprised as well" Jason shrugged his shoulder, looking at the accusing gaze Max was throwing at him.

"That could not be a good sign."

"I know," answered Jason with a depressing look.

The two walked home, going to their respective homes. Jason walked into the house to find his parents' home preparing dinner.

"Hey, young man. You are home late again" Mr. Mackenzie looked at his son, smiling. This was his second day missing their training.

"I know. I had a walk home with max, and we passed by his mom's workplace," Jason answered, smiling back. He loved his parents the most. He went upstairs, took a shower, and returned to join the family for dinner. In the middle of dinner, the doorbell rang, and Mr. Jayer, full of food in his mouth, went to open the door.

He was smiling but showed a displeased look when he saw the person at the door. He hid it immediately and opened the door. He threw his wife a knowing look when the older man went inside. He didn't wait to be invited. He entered immediately after the door was opened.

"It seems I came just on time. Aren't you going to invite me for dinner?" he asked, looking at the two people looking at him.

"Welcome, Mr. Frank"

"Oh, thank you" The old man went to the dining table and sat down. He took a plate and served himself.

There was tension on the table. Jason noticed it and didn't ask anything. The older man was new to him.

"You must be Jason. Quite a big boy now. Do you go to DustVille High school?" the old man looked at him and asked.

"Yes, sir." He answered, eating his food. He didn't know why but there was a fearing feeling coming from down there.

"That school produced the best in town. I went there so many years ago. Is Mr. Dixon still the head teacher?" Jason looked at him and answered

"No. Mrs. Becky, his daughter, is running the school."

"Aah, she is also a nice child" He looked deeply at Jason. There were signs of sweat on Jason's face.

"Are you okay, son?" Jason greeted his teeth in pain but answered him. He felt like the whole of his body was paining him. He placed both his hands under the table and looked at them. The nails were elongating. He had to make a fist to try and hide it.

"Excuse me. I am feeling sick. I'll take a rest," he said, tightening the fists and putting the hand inside his jumper.

"Are you okay? I can help look at you. I know a bit about medicine" Jason stopped in his tracks as the old man tried to stand on his feet. His eyes were changing, but he didn't know that. He could see a bit differently. He didn't turn and declined the offer.

"I will be alright. Just A bit of rest."

"I insist" the old man took steps towards him. Mr. Jayer, on the other hand, was irritated. He walked to the old man and stood in front of him.

"Mr. Frank, my son said no. Please respect his wishes."

He didn't say a thing and looked meaningfully at the husband and wife and smiled after a while. It was creepy. He threw a last look at the stairs and went back to his seat.

"How have you been these years? I haven't heard from you in a long time. Well, things are going to change around here for a while. My family is moving back here." He said, looking at the two people.
