Chapter 3
The driver drove to the museum, Isaac and Mila get down from the car and they both walked in the museum, they are a lot of people in the museum snapping and watching the mermaid that was captured, Isaac and Mila were able to walk to where the mermaid was captured and Mila could see it’s her mother, she was about to shout “ mother” when she saw her mother in the glass where she was captured but she has to keep mute so that no one will know she was also a mermaid so they won’t capture her, Isaac was taking some pictures of the mermaid, Mila could not control her tears but she has to hide, her mother could not see her, she clean her tears.“ How can I take my mum out of here maybe in the night but they are a lot of security here” she said speaking to herself.“ Did you say something?” Isaac ask.“ Well I said maybe we should leave” she said and Isaac was surprised because not long they got to the museum.“ But why? Are you not amaze by seeing the mermaid” he said.“ Off course I am amaze but I am tired I think I need some rest for now, we can come back here tomorrow” she said and Isaac stare at her.“ Alright but I don’t think I will come with you home right now, I will tell the driver to take you home, I need to go see my mum right now, I will back home in the night” he said and Mila nods her head and she went with the driver home.“ Strange girl” he said. After an hour, the driver drove Mila to Isaac’s house and the driver took her to the guest room, Mila shut the door and she stood and cry remembering seeing her mum in the glass and she hope she can help her mum out of the museum so they can both go back to their world.“ You should not worry mum, I will help you out of where you have been captured but I guess I need to leave here but if I leave here how will I get to the museum again, I will need to stay here so o can get to see my mum every day and I will plan on how to get you out of there soon” she said.“ Ouch! My legs hurt” she said and she went to the bathroom and she saw the bathtub, she remove her dress and entered the bathtub and she was in her mermaid form, she smiled having her bath.Isaac got to his mum’s place and he met a lady seated beside his mum and he wonders who was that, his mum saw him and he ran to go hug him.“ Mum!” He said.“ Yes dear, you should come with me”his mum said and he hold Isaac hand and he took him to the beautiful lady.“ This was the surprise I had for you. Her name his Mary and Mary this is my son Isaac” his mum said and Isaac was surprised.“ What is going on mum” he asked his mum.“ She is the girl I brought for you to get married to” his mum said.“ What? Did I told you I need I wife right now? Mum please stop it, I am not interested in her” he said and Mary stood up and she was upset.“ What? What is going on Mrs Walker? I thought you said that your son saw my picture and he liked me and wanted to see me that is why I came. Listen Mrs Walker, I am not begging you to love me so don’t think you are so important and Mrs Walker, I am so disappointed in you next timeDo not bother call me. Excuse me” Mary said in anger and he let and his mum was so upset.“ What have you done Isaac? You should have at least try to know her first” his mum said in anger.“ Mum! I am not interested in any woman right now” he said.“ Alright fine. I give you one week to look for a woman and give me grandchildren or else, I will take your position in the company and give to your cousin remember I still have say after your dad’s death until you are married or have kids that is when you can have a full say on all properties, you are my only son and only child and I want the best for you” his mum said.“ Does it matter if I have a baby mama?” He asked.“ I want wife and kids from you and not a baby mama” his mum said in anger, Isaac left in anger, he walked out from his mum’s house, he get into his car.“ I don’t want to lose my properties to anyone, my mum only wants to threaten because of grandkids if that what she wants then I will get baby mama and get her grandkids as soon as possible I do not want a wife, I look for a lady to impregnate and I will pay her off if she give birth” he said in his mind and he drove off.Mila heard knock and she was still in the in the bathtub in the mermaid form and she quickly get out of the bathtub and she was back to the human form, she was on towel and she walked to the door and it was the maid.“ Hi Miss Mila, i just wanted to inform that the dinner has been serve in the dining” the maid said and Mila smiles.“ Dinner! Alright! I will ne there soon” she said and the maid left and Mila shut the door back.“ The time is just 5pm and the dinner is serve, I heard human are wicked but Mr Isaac seems nice, I think I need to inform Clara that I am fine, she must worried about me” she said speaking to herself.Chapter 4Isaac drove back home, he get down from his car and he get into the house, Mila also walked out from the room and she bumped into Isaac, Isaac hold her when she was about to fall, they both locked eyes and Mila smiles.“ Thank you for not letting me fall” she said and she smiled, Mila went to the dinning and Isaac was still standing.“ You should come to the dining so we can eat together the dinner is serve” she said and Isaac went to join her in the dining and he thought about what his mum said, Mila could see that Isaac is worried.“ You look worried. What is going?”She said.“ Yes, I am” he replied.“ Why are you worried?” She asked. “ My mum wants me to get married and have kids and if I don’t do want she wants she will hand over all the properties to my cousin till I doWhat she want” he said.“ Why don’t you do what she wants? I’m sure you have a fiancé” she said and Isaac smiles.“ I don’t know, I only do one night stand thing with girls, I was just think of getting
Chapter 5Mila was back to her room and she heard knocked on the door, Mila was scared maybe they have came to looked for her and didn’t find her, she was already nervous and she went to the bed and asked the person who was knocking to enter, Isaac entered the room and Mila was surprised and she stood from the bed.“ Mr Isaac! Have you been looking for me?” She asked and Isaac was surprised by her question.“ No, I just came to check up on you maybe you are comfortable” he said and Mila smiles.“ As you can see, I am comfortable” she said and Isaac went close to her, Mila step back.“ Why do you have to step back?” He asked.“ Nothing. I guess, we are going to the museum tomorrow so I can I see my mum” she asked.“ Yes, but I will not be going with you, my driver will take to the museum, I have a lot of jobs to do at the office tomorrow” he said.“ Ok that is fine” she said and Isaac went close to her and he kissed her on her lips and Mila was surprised, they both stare at each other,
Cheering and applause breaks out all around me. I don’t join in because I have nothing to celebrate. It’s the end-of-term assembly, and everyone else is leaving campus to enjoy their week off. Me? Not that I want to party or have fun. I’m still processing, well, everything. My life has changed so drastically since arriving at Valora. And that’s putting it mildly. I have far more questions than answers.“You coming, Mila?” Isaac asks.I pull myself from my thoughts and realize everyone is clearing the auditorium. “Oh, yeah. Right.”He helps me up. “Everything okay?”“Sure.” I haven’t told him or Erica the latest news. It’s too much. I hardly believe it myself, but it’s true. Not only are my mom and Tobi planning on getting married, Tobi is actually my father. I thought I killed my dad, but it turns out Martine was my uncle. So, if I’m going to be forced to fulfill the Mrs Walker legend, now I have to kill Tiberias—the kind and loving twin. The king everyone adores. That entire mess is
He winks. “You’ll go?”“Fine.” I sigh dramatically.“You will? You won’t regret it!”“That’s yet to be seen,” I mumble.“Let’s change out of these uniforms, then I’ll meet you in the dorm lounge. Tell Erica to join us.”“Can’t. Her parents picked her up before the assembly. They’re vacationing somewhere in the Atlantic and wanted to get an early start.”“Then it’s just you and me. We’ll take my motorcycle.”I snuggle close to him. “I like that idea.”He laces his fingers through mine. “I’m so glad you’re feeling better. I was really starting to worry about you.”“I appreciate that. And you’re right. It’s time to stop moping and start enjoying life. And really, what’s not to enjoy? I’ve got you as my boyfriend, and Earwyn will be out of my hair for a whole week.”He snorts. “Except we’re heading over to her house.”“I hope Mary gives her a second head. Although that would be two mouths instead of one.” I shudder. “Maybe that wouldn’t be such a good idea.”Isaac chuckles. “Probably not.
Isaac parks his bike by a bunch of other ones and removes his helmet before helping me off. I hand him mine and shake out my hair, then take in the sight before me. Earwyn’s house is enormous. Obviously, it doesn’t compare to the castle or the academy, but it’s a mansion. Way bigger than the house I lived in on land. The perfectly manicured front yard is bigger than our entire property had been.“Over the top, isn’t it?” Isaac puts our helmets away. “But it does make for good parties.”“Let’s see.” I hurry toward theIsaac takes my hand. “Did I tell you how amazing you look?”I fight a smile. “Only about five times since we met in the lounge.”He pulls me close and kisses me deeply. “I haven’t said it enough then.”When we pull apart, I’m dazed. He whistles.I have no idea how he whistles underwater. I’ve tried but only manage to blow bubbles.Halfway to the house, I hear music and laughter from inside. Then glass shattering.“The party’s already started.” Isaac laughs.I reach for th
After the third one, a guy who’s rumored to be on his third time as a fourth-year reaches into his pocket and pulls out a bag of something purple and shimmery. “I brought the good stuff.”Isaac catches my eye and nods his head toward the house.Intrigued, I turn my attention back to the shimmery stuff. “What’s that?”A few people chuckle and giggle.“I grew up on land, remember?” I cross my arms. “I’m sure there’s plenty I know that you don’t.”The dude shrugs. “It’s tristle.”Isaac gestures toward the house again. “Come on, Marra.”One girl leans closer to the baggie. “How’d you get so much?”“I have my ways.” He turns to me. “Want to try some, land princess?”“I’m not princess of the land.”“Whatever. Want it or not?”“What does it do?”He smirks. “It’ll make you forget all your problems.”“Hand it over.” I reach for it.Isaac rises. “Sorry, but we’re leaving.”“Doesn’t look like she wants to,” someone says.I lean closer to the bag.“Mila, you don’t know what that stuff does.” Isaa
Earwyn and her dogfish are laughing in the kitchen. They stop as soon as they see me. She arches a brow at me. “Look who’s here.”“Yes, I am. What’s it to you?”Cove and Vanya giggle while Earwyn straightens her back. “Pardon“I said, what’s it to you? You going to kick me out? Rub it in my face that you got what you wanted with my dad’s death? At my own hand, nonetheless.” I try to glare at her, but I’m not sure it works. She waves me off. “You’re high.”I ignore the comment and move closer to her. “Everyone knows you have a problem with me. But here’s the thing—I didn’t do anything against you. Ever. All the slights you feel, they weren’t my fault. I didn’t ask for the suite! I had no clue my dad tried to kill Tobi. He set all his decrees on his own. None of it had anything to do with me! You should just give me a break. All I’m trying to do is make the best of the situation. You think it’s easy to adjust to life in Valora after living on land most of my life?”She starts to say som
Her nostrils flare and her face reddens. “Who else? You’re the one who knocked out a bar full of mermen!”I open my mouth but don’t say anything. She has a point. But I didn’t do any of it on purpose. I glare at her. “You’re the one who insisted I sing with you! The only person you have to blame is yourself!”“Get out!” She raises a fist at me.“I didn’t do this on purpose!”“Like I care! Just go!” She points toward the front door.“I didn’t want this to happen.”“Leave!”Without another word, I replace the mic on its stand and head out, apologizing to everyone along the way. Nobody seems to care, and none of the guys are even stirring.I hope I didn’t kill anyone. My stomach knots. What if I did? I don’t know anything about any of these siren-like powers. The creatures are just as shrouded in mystery as the pink-haired queen herself. And nobody wants an out-of-control siren freak like me.Not like I asked for any of this.Once outside, I close the door behind me and take a deep breat
She'd wanted to see his face for more than that brief glimpse. Did he fear what she would see? Beauty and the Beast was one of her favorite fairy tales, because an empath could see it all. The monster beneath the flesh, no matter how beautiful the mask. The beauty of the soul, no matter the disfigurement. But she hadn't wanted to assess the balance within him. She'd needed to look into his eyes for a reason she couldn't define, but it had been all-consuming. If she'd seen the darkness in him outweighing the light, would she have clung to him anyway, because he needed her? It was a desperation that went deeper into the soul than even she'd ever delved. Down to the dark, frightening places where children screamed but no mother came, pain and fear were the air one breathed, and the earth had no magic beneath the soles of the feet."Isaac?"A warm light had spread over her skin. She raised her gaze to her father's dark eyes. Apparently when she hadn't responded right away, he'd intensifie
. How on earth did she know what brimstone smelled like?Maybe she remembered it from that time she'd ended up in the outer catacombs of Hell, looking for the caverns where her parents had first met. She'd been twelve, and fascinated by the story of how Anna had hidden Jonah there when he was hurt and being pursued by Dark Ones. Of course, Lex hadn't been thrilled to run smack into Lucifer while on her romantic quest. She'd been told in no uncertain terms she would not be swimming down into his realm again, not if she knew what was good for her. She was twenty-one now, but the memory still made her shudder.God, she loved her parents, but they had such scary friends. The Lord of the Underworld was her father's best friend, while Mila was the seawitch Mina, a creature whose name no merperson would speak aboveBut whether or not Isaac was smelling brimstone, this had to be a dream. Mainly because that part of the mind that kept things from being too frightening in dreams said so, even
His hand slid up, his thumb finding her nipple and making her moan softly. Closing his eyes, he forced himself to focus. Goddess, it was as if he hadn't sated his lust in eons. What was it about her? Rationally, he knew it could be something the witch had done. But his heart knew differently, for an angel's heart knew truth."I'm off balance, because despite all that, I'm enthralled by the way your hair lies on your shoulders, how anger flashes in your eyes like heat lightning. The flush of your cheeks, the way your nipples have hardened against that thin shirt just from my barest touch." He folded his hand around her throat and cheek, tucked her head under his chin, and let sensuality give way to comfort. When Mila let out a resigned sigh, coiled her arms around his upper body, he felt that curious relief again. "I'm angry, because in the midst of all these things, I want you. So I strike out at your desire for me, so new and clean. It's beautiful, Anna, a miraculous gift to any male
Except for that one picture. The one that said she hoped for something better. As he came back up her body and sheathed himself again, pushing them both over the edge they needed, he knew he was going to embark on this journey with her. Not because he believed the seawitch, or that the darkness in his heart needed healing, but because suddenly the most important thing was that his little mermaid knew that someone believed in her.And hellfire, he still couldn't bring himself to go back, reach out to Lucifer or the Lady. Or any of them. What would a week matter? Time was relative, when one was an angel.SHE woke alone. The thunder was shaking the house, coming close together, flashes of lightning illuminating the cottage so she could see him standing on the deck, the sliding glass door open to the driving rain. His hair was plastered to his head, his face tilted to the sky, the wings a heavy weight on his back. She didn't dress, but moved down the stairs, stood in the open door, steppe
"What the hell did you let her do to me?""She was trying to save your life. The Dark Ones--""She is a Dark Spawn. Damn it, I never should have trusted her. Or you, a child stupid enough to think a Dark One can be your friend. I--""She may be dead because of you, my lord." Mila thrust hard against him, but of course he didn't budge. "Because of me. Because I brought her into this. She led the Dark Ones away from us.""Perhaps that's what she wants you to think." He had no patience for her feelings right now. With disgust, he released her and managed to make it to his feet this time, though he had to fight the desire to lie back down. Because his voice was hoarse, he cleared it twice before he got the words out. "What did she do to me?""You're human." She flinched at his expression. "It's only temporary. At dusk, your true form will return. Until . . ." She bit it off and looked away. "It will return at dusk."His eyes narrowed. Gods, his head felt like someone was pounding a mallet
"What have you been doing?" Erica demanded."What do you mean?""The Dark Ones were loose and swarming about the ocean floor, seeking one of the winged ones. And it's all over you, his aura. You are fair glowing with it." Erica was already rummaging through her stores, reaching into crevices in the rock used for storage for her healing tonics and potions."He said I would be safe as long as I wasn't with him.""Idiot.""Erica," Mila gasped. "He's an angel.""And an idiot. Here, drink this quickly. It will purge you and you'll be rid of that glow. Go on or I'll pour it down your throat."Anna hesitated. "What do you mean, purge? Not . . . forget?"Erica stopped, stared at her. "No," she said at last. "It's a cleansing, not a . . .""Cleansing. How . . . Does that mean . . ." He'd said he could voluntarily withhold his seed, but what if . . .Erica peered at her. Now her gaze traveled more slowly over Mila, apparently seeing far more than auras."Mila, you lay with him.""It was necessa
How do you know about that?"She shrugged. "I've spent time in the human world. I've studied their history.""So have I." The shadows were back in his eyes again, the dangerous set to his mouth that made him seem so formidable. But he regarded her curiously. "Won't someone be missing you? Your family? Your great-grandsire?""I don't stay in one place for long. They're used to my absences.""So no one looks after you.""I look after myself," she said with a trace of irritation. "I got you here.""Despite my command to leave me.""It wasn't a command," she protested.Isaac snorted. "It most certainly was, and you ignored it."She rose, went to the water. For a moment he thought she was going to dive, metamorphose into her other self and leave him there. Rising, he came up behind her, not yet touching her but standing just at her back. Feeling her hair brush his chest, his abdomen, he gazed down over the top of her head at the swell of her breasts, the pink tips so recently suckled. One
Her features were so fine, small. He put his finger up beside the line of her nose, just to judge, and it seemed the tip of his finger would almost cap it. Her lips were a tiny bow, and despite himself, he imagined what it would be like to stretch them . . .While he knew human mythology suggested angels were above such things, that myth was not based on the warrior class of seraphim. The nourishing energy they required made carnality a vital part of their strength, one of the easiest and fastest ways to replenish their powers. Many of the humanoid races freely offered themselves, and he was all too aware that many felt they had no right to refuse an angel. While he tried not to take advantage of that, fortunately, not many had the desire to resist. But as the years had passed, there was a lack of intimacy to such couplings that bothered him in a way he didn't care to examine too closely. He'd begun to prefer recharging by going into seclusion, drawing from the elements, a slower, med
He would die without her. Let me die . . .No, by Neptune's Trident. She would not. And she wasn't dying here, either. This wasn't how she was going to go, damn it.When her tail encountered a flat surface, and moving water pushed against her face, telling her the tunnel had become horizontal again and was widening, she sobbed in relief. She was able to switch arms and swim forward, using the additional propulsion offered by a wider sweep of her tail. And then, the darkness began to have shapes. Rock formations in the walls, the curve of the tunnel on all sides. Light. There was light coming from somewhere. Seafans with waving tendrils and myriad corals began to blanket the walls again, scraping at her knuckles. Bless the Lady, the water was getting warmer. Much warmer. As the tunnel directed her up, she pushed against the wall with her free arm as well as pumped with her tail, suddenly desperate to know that what she was seeing, sensing, was true and not some odd type of mirage in t
