Alexakis POVWhere was she? Where could she have gone with that much of an injury that she suffered from?My mind whirled over so many questions at the same time but I suppressed them. I knew that my first and foremost action should be to look for the girl and make sure she was alright. That brought my mind back to her parents. Could they have followed our trails and kidnapped the girl back when they realized that I was fast asleep? If by the moon goddess that was them, I would make sure that they didn't live to see the next sunrise. How could they have kidnapped the girl they wanted dead? The question brought me the answer I needed. Those hunters couldn't have done it. The fact that I was alive was proof of that. If they were the ones who really stole the girl from me, then I would either be dead or in a cage by now, given how serious they were about making me lose my life.If it wasn't them though, who else could have done such a thing?I knew that the more time I wasted brooding over things that didn't matter, the more danger the woman who was my savior would be.I stood up from where I sat, wincing as the injury on my calf burned a little. I ignored the pain and smelled the rock to catch her scent. It was faint but I still got what I wanted. I inhaled twice more even though it was absolutely unnecessary. To me, her scent felt like a delicious mix of strawberry and chocolate together.I channeled the energy of my wolf and I began to follow the smell I got from her. The smell led me to a very large gathering, and then it was gone, mixed with a million more smells all over the place.I stood upright and blinked when I realized that I just entered the den of people who were hitting each other in the ring. To my right were men waiting for their turn to contest. What the price they were fighting for was, I didn't know and had no desire to do so. My first priority was the girl I was looking for.Somehow, I knew she would be somewhere in the crowd, lost among them. I turned to my left to leave. And that was when I saw who I was looking for.The girl was tied up on what looked like a stake, with rope binding her to the stake securely, injuring her even more. Her clothes and the rope holding her in place were soaked to the broken either her blood, some of which looked a little dry. Her eyes were closed and she looked like she was already dead. The only thing to indicate she was breathing was how she kept wincing and squeezing her face, to hold the pain in, I presume. She was not the only one there. There were like ten other girls too, from young to adults, and they were all tied up.My anger rose and I rushed to where she was tied. I began to work on the rope, trying to loosen it and free her. She opened her eyes at that moment and I saw her gasp as she noticed it was me standing before her. I could see it from the look she gave me that she was curious to ask me how I found her. I shook my head at her to tell her that she shouldn't say a thing, so she could conserve her strength.I was almost done with removing the rope when a hand gripped my shoulder forcefully. I turned around with all the anger rising in me and punched the man in the face. He stumbled backward, and I saw two of his teeth fly off. I ignored him and the multiple gasps that rose in the air and returned my attention to what I was doing earlier."Behind you!" The girl I was saving yelled.Like a reflex, I dodged and I saw a fist fly from where the back of my head would have been. I turned around and saw four well-built men standing in battle stances all around me. I hissed at them to show them I had no desire to exchange blows with them but they just kept advancing."You want the girl, you fight for her. That's our rule." The one who seemed to be the leader of the ring said to me. I crossed my arms around my chest and continued watching them. "Why? Are you afraid you will lose?" The man snarled and everyone in the den laughed.I refused to be flattered by what he said. Instead, I continued watching them, waiting for when they would make the mistake enough to advance toward me and throw another punch. They got to me at that moment and the ring leader threw the punch I expected from him. I gripped the hand and twisted it until I heard the bones snapping. The yelling he gave an indication that I had indeed caused him the pain I wanted to inflict. I released him to writhe in his pain and beckoned on the rest with my hand.I could see the fear in their eyes as they stares at each other to see who would attack first. I pointed at them one after the other and showed them to come together at once. Thinking that they had the upper hand, they obeyed my command and advanced together. I punched the first one in the stomach, kicked the second in the groin, picked up the third one, and flipped him on his back to the hard floor.I smiled as I saw all four of them groaning in pain. I ignored them once more and turned back to the girl I was there for. I saw that she had fainted, probably from all the blood she shed. I finished untying the ropes and picked her up into my arms. As I walked away with her securely in my arms, everyone made way for me.I was almost at the door when the voice of a man, deep and gruff and callous in a way that was unexplainable, stopped me."If you ever need a job, feel free to return. I promise to pay you triple what I pay these fools."I refused to acknowledge the message and just went out of the place, feeling very worried about how to save the unconscious woman in my arms.10.Alexakis povAs I carried the girl in my arms, I was reminded of the fact that I had no real home to take the girl over to. I never had any home, to begin with. Except with the wolves I live with. And when I say wolves, I meant the real ones. I never knew what my identity was. I didn't know if I belonged together with the wolves or with the humans. All I knew was that I grew up with the wolves. They were the only family I had. It wasn't until recently that I found out that I was even a human myself. The change had happened even very rapidly, and that too in the camp of hunters. One of them spotted me and that was how I sustained all the injuries that I did. It was while I was escaping from the humans that I ventured into the territory of the human girl and she helped treat my sustained wounds. Now that I have to take the girl somewhere to recuperate, I didn't know if I should do it with the wolves or take her to an actual hospital. Do I even know how these places work? Decidin
11.Evie's POV For five days after I had that awful encounter with those evil people who tied me up and asked men to fight over me to gain ownership of me, I battled with either staying alive or giving in to the pain and just dying. Perhaps I would have chosen to die since that would just end everything, but I could see the struggle the wolf, I mean man, had to make sure I stayed alive. The least I could do was not disappoint him. And even though it seemed very hard like something I would not be able to do, I kept pushing through and through with everything that I faced. I didn't know what the man kept feeding me but at least they kept me alive.Like always, I flicked my eyes open and blinked at how dark the room I was in was. I coughed and coughed when some kind of smoke got into my lungs until I could calm down. I blinked again, trying to adjust my sight to see in the dark. Soon, I looked to the side and saw that there was some kind of fire burning wherever I was in.I saw the ma
CLAIRE’S POVMy father dragged me out of the cave and I turned back to look at the man who fell to the ground as the pain of his injuries overwhelmed him and made him weak. I swallowed the sob that threatened to leave me when I saw the bodies of some wolves that my father's men had killed. I hated my father now more than ever but knew that I'd have to stay with him if I wanted to make sure that the man and the other wolves were safe. I looked up at my father, not failing to see the sneer he had on his face, his features contorted with disgust and anger. He glanced down at me then, his face darkening with unbridled rage. We'd be walking for a while now, out of sight from the cave, when he suddenly thrust me into the arms of one of his men. Strong hands gripped my arms tight and pulled me roughly along them. The walk from the cave back to our home was long and tiring and my arm got sprained along the way because the man, Rufus, kept squeezing my hand and jerking me around, walking fast
CLAIRE’S POV The next morning, I was awoken by Evie who stormed into my room to inform me that the bus would soon arrive. She was incensed since my Father had forced her to come up and pass along the information. I didn't let her see that I was disgusted by the fact that she's in my personal space and even though she was currently poking through my things and cussing out at them, I held my tongue. The quieter I am, the quicker she would leave me alone. And sure enough, she gave me a long annoyed look and walked out of my room, banging my door behind her hard. I got up and immediately prepared myself for school. I'd dropped out because Becky had convinced my Father that it'd be more lucrative for them to not waste their money on me when I could be more helpful at home. I hadn't understood it then but knowing father's current money problems, I knew now that it had to be the reason he eagerly agreed to Becky's manipulation. The only reason I'd pushed to resume school again was because
ALEXAKIS.I followed her immediately as my body was strong enough - which was barely. My pack were still grieving their loss and instead of me being with them and soothing them, giving them reassurances, I was currently watching the human girl climb slowly onto a large, yellow bus. She'd stepped out earlier, happy -at least there was a little smile on her face-, but the girl who stood beside her had ignored her all through, her lack of the excitement dwindling the little joy the girl I'd saved seemed to have. She said something to my girl when the bus rolled up, and now my girl seemed sad. When I realized that calling her 'My girl' deeply satisfied me, I was baffled. I wanted to understand the hold this lithe and small human had on me, but try as I might, I couldn't. I was drawn to her deeply and couldn't step away from her magnetic pull on me. Something told me that we were connected deeply and I was eager to explore that possibility, that maybe, she might be my partner. If I was
ALEXAKIS.I wasn't sure if what I was about to do was a smart thing but what I did know was that I was desperate. And wise decisions were never ever made on the brink of desperation. I turned to look at the man I'd met earlier, the man who'd offered me a job earlier and although I could tell that I was about to make a very bad mistake, I couldn't help but stretch out my hand towards him and watched silently as he took my outstretched palm in his, his grip firm. I thought about the way to tell him I wanted the job he offered but I couldn't since it wasn't so long since I became a human, learning how to speak like them was hard.He laughed immediately, which wasn't an expression I'd expected and I waa confused as to why that was. Before I could confront him as to his laughter, his hand came down on my shoulder and he squeezed it, using that limb to draw me close to him. His breath smelled like cigar and that fact was solidified when he drew a tobacco pipe from his pocket and lit it,
CLAIRE.They all watched me like I was some type of creep just because I decided to come back and finish schooling.I wasn't, and I honestly shouldn't be thinking about them. Evie had made sure that my life was a living hell throughout that week and had made sure that no one spoke to me. Word spread around that I was her help and anyone who would've counteracted that rumor would've been in the class that had just graduated. I was currently trying to be invisible among the sea of people that headed out of the doors, as the bells for the end of the day had gone off half an hour earlier. I had waited in the chemistry lab as my classmates rushed out and I thought that the time I'd spent waiting in there would guarantee that the school would be empty in a few minutes' time, but it wasn't. Evie had made herself and her friends into my bullies and they'd been harassing daily after school so that had felt like a way to escape them. Except that I was wrong because the hallways were still cr
ALEXAKIS.She was here. In my home. Or what was my home, seeing as my pack had decided to move on while I was away, something that I didn't want to think too much of because it hurt too much. I stared at her, her mouth wide open like she was silently screaming. Walking closer to her, I placed my hands in front of myself, hoping she took the memo that I wasn't here to hurt her. She shifted in her position, looking sideways like she was scared of me or something. I frowned, my head tilted in contemplation. Didn't she remember who I was? From the way her hands were clenched tightly in front of her chest, I took that as a No. She didn't remember me because why else would she take a defensive stance towards someone who had saved her last week. I relaxed my posture as I came closer to her, making sure that my hands were still held out in front of her. Her eyes moved over my figure, probably trying to gauge who I was. My eyes dropped down to take in my clothes as well and to maybe see wha
