The doctor screamed as he felt Eve lunge toward his exposed neck. Sabrina skidded to a stop about five yards away from them when she saw Eve move to bite the doctor. Arec burst through the front door, followed by Craig. He stopped when he saw Eve’s mouth over the doctor’s neck. “Eve! No!” he called to her, using their telepathy. “Tell everyone to back off, or I will bite him,” she told Arec. Arec shifted back into his human form and held his hands up to Craig and Sabrina, saying, “Back off, or she’ll bite the doctor.” Craig and Sabrina halted, then looked at each other. With a nod, they turned back to Arec. “Ask them if he can turn her back,” Eve said, not moving from her position over the doctor. Arec looked at her, then back at Craig and Sabrina, asking, “Can he reverse the procedure?” Sabrina shifted back into her human form and asked, “Why would he want to do that?” Eve growled, causing the doctor to yelp in fear. Sighing, Sabrina said, “If she could back away from
Eve growled low in her throat as she saw Sabrina standing beside Craig in his werewolf form. Another man she didn’t recognize stood on the other side of Craig and looked at her with unease. She figured that must be the man who turned Linda. Arec shifted back into his human form and raised an eyebrow at Sabrina. “Consorting with the enemy yourself?” he asked. Sabrina frowned as she glanced at Craig, then glared at Eve and said, “This wouldn’t have happened if you’d allowed nature to take its course and let Craig have Eve as his mate. Then, you and I would be together. Werewolf with werewolf and Lycan with Lycan. No intermingling of the species.” Arec shook his head as he looked at her and said, “You know that’s not how this works. You know how fated mates work.” Sabrina snorted and said, “That only works in children’s stories.” Arec looked at Sabrina, standing beside Craig with her hand on his head, before looking at Craig, then back to Sabrina again. “Are you sure about that
Breaking through the trees surrounding the house, Arec noticed that all the lights were off, and the house was dark. He slowed and held up his arm for Eve to wait. “What is it?” she asked, looking at him before turning her gaze toward the darkened house again. “We need to be careful,” he told her. “Even though the house is dark, he may not be alone inside.”Eve nodded. “We need to be careful in our approach, in case he left an ambush of some sort for us,” Arec added. They crept closer to the house, and upon reaching the house, Arec spied that the front door was ajar. He stopped and pointed to it, alerting Eve, who nodded. After looking around and spotting no one in sight, they entered the house. “Do you think that other guy that Linda mentioned might have stayed behind tonight?” Eve asked as they searched the rooms on the ground floor. “Do you think he was the one who created whatever it was that changed Linda?” “I’m not sure,” Arec said. “I’m not even sure he is another wer
“Don’t you mean the seven of us?” Everyone turned to see Ray walking into the room. His siblings hurried toward him, gathering around him and hugging him. Stepping back, Arec said, “I don’t know how much one more Lycan will help, but I know every extra person will help.”“So, Mother’s refusing to help?” Ray asked, shaking his head. Arec nodded and said, “She got her pride injured when Eve won the fight against Sabrina to see who would be my mate.”Glancing at Eve, he grinned and added, “As if it wasn’t a foregone conclusion who would have won.”Ray grinned at his brother and said, “I guess congratulations are in order, then. Well done on finding a mate.”He held his hand out for Arec to shake. Arec grasped his brother’s hand and shook it, saying, “I’m not the only one you need to congratulate.”Nodding toward Linda and Michael, he said, “Michael’s also found his mate.”Ray looked at his other brother with wide eyes.“Michael’s finally going to be settling down with one woman?” h
When Arec pulled the car up to the front of the house, he could see the werewolves lining the trees around the property. He narrowed his eyes as he scanned the wolves. “Do you see Craig?” Eve asked, scanning the trees as well. Arec shook his head and said, “He may not be here yet. Let’s get inside while we can.” Exiting the car, he held the door for Eve as she leapt out of the car and bounded up the stairs, stopping just in front of the door to look back at Arec. He’d slammed the car door and hurried after her.He opened the door and ushered her inside, before glancing back toward the trees and following her inside. Michael waited for them in the living room with Julia and Bella, who sat in the chairs while Michael paced back and forth across the room. “Where’s Linda?” Eve asked as she looked around the room. “Is she okay?” Arec repeated the question to Michael, who nodded and said, “I left her in the room. I wasn’t sure how she’d react to me being upset.” “Smart thinking,”
Eve didn’t listen at first, continuing to press her teeth deeper into Sabrina’s throat. She felt a hand on her back and whirled around, growling with her teeth bared. Upon seeing Arec, she stopped snarling and lowered herself to the ground, her head under her paws.“Get out of here, Sabrina,” Arec said in a low voice, not looking at her as he kneeled beside Eve. “I’ll take care of her from here.”Sabrina staggered to her feet and limped out of the room without looking back. Arec didn’t see where she went or if she transformed back before leaving, and he didn’t care. He focused on Eve, stroking her head as he talked to her. “It’s okay, Eve,” he told her as she stared at the ground. “You let your were take over, like we’d planned. It’s over now. You beat her.” “I know,” she told him, not looking at him. “I just couldn’t get back in control at the end of the fight. I tried, but my were wouldn’t let me take back over. It wanted to kill her.” “You’re in control now,” he said. “And you
