Chapter 80: The Misty Forest

I flopped back on Tyler's bed with a dejected sigh.

"He really does care about you, you know," Tyler said suddenly, his voice soft but earnest as he leaned closer to me. "Just because he might not have told those guys about you, I doubt it changes how he feels. He's private about these kinds of things. Ryder keeps his feelings to himself. Besides, his best friend, Ash, wasn't even here tonight. Maybe he's only opened up to him so far."

I considered Tyler's words, nodding slowly. I guess it made sense. Ryder was complex in ways I was still learning to understand. "I suppose that could be true," I admitted.

Perhaps I was being too hard on him, expecting the openness that seemed to come so easily to Tyler.

Tyler smiled gently, reaching out to tuck a stray lock of hair behind my ear. "Try not to look into it too much, okay? Let's just enjoy the time we have together."

I smiled, gratefully. He was right, I suppose. Stressing about Ryder was just eating into my time with Tyler and I had so

The moment stretched on between us until Tyler finally cleared his throat and turned around once more, heading back to his shirt which sat neatly folded on top of his shoes.I took that as my cue to turn around, my heart still pounding in my ears as I slid the straps of my dress down over my shoulders and stripped it off along with my panties. The misty air chilled my skin and I was shivering, but I knew it was only temporary. With merely more than a thought, I shifted into my wolf form and my furry pelt acted as insulation from the icy night.Chancing a glance over my shoulder, I noted that Tyler had already shifted. He was sitting patiently with his back to me still, probably waiting for me to give him some indication that I was done before he turned around.I made a little yapping noise, and, as I suspected, he turned around to face me.He looked identical to Ryder in his wolf form. He had the same huge build, the same brown fur, and the same yellow eyes. In human form, I was start

Tyler cupped my cheek, his gentle warmth seeping into my skin. I leaned into his hand, my eyes closed as my lips brushed against his palm. My heart brimmed with an overwhelming sense of belonging. For the first time in my life, everything felt right. Like this is where I was supposed to be.Tyler’s eyes searched mine, an unspoken question lingering in his gaze. He leaned in slowly, his lips meeting mine in a kiss that felt as inevitable as the waves crashing against the shore. The world around us faded into nothing. Oblivion. It was just him and me and this moment. This perfect moment. This wasn't the mate bond I had felt before. This was something deeper and more profound. Something otherworldly. It was as if in that moment, I had found a missing piece of myself. We lost ourselves in the kiss, the chill of the night forgotten as warmth radiated between us. His fingers caressed my skin, moving lightly down my arm.He pulled away slightly. "You're freezing. We should go back inside," h

As the room settled into a comfortable silence, Tyler leaned over me, placing a kiss on the top of my head. He reached out to hold my hand, his fingers intertwining with mine. That feeling of 'rightness' pulsed through me as the moment stretched out between us. A thought suddenly nudged me. "Shit. I need to let my aunt know I'm staying over," I murmured, reluctantly releasing my grip from Tyler's hand. I found my purse on the floor beside the bed and rummaged through it looking for my phone. Once I found it I quickly typed out a message to Aunt Mara, telling her not to wait up for me because I had decided to stay over. Almost immediately, her response came back. Aunt Mara: 👍 Be safe My cheeks warmed with a blush as I set the phone aside on the bedside table. I turned back to Tyler, settling myself back on the bed before asking what his plans were for the next day. I was kind of hoping he didn't have anything major planned so that I could maybe spend a little more time with him

I woke up tangled in Tyler's arms as the morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow around the room. For a moment, I lay there, savoring the feeling of belonging that washed over me. Tyler looked so peaceful in sleep. His face was relaxed, showing no sign of the usual burdens he carried in waking life. I felt a surge of protectiveness toward him, wishing I could somehow take away all the troubles and stresses in his life. Nuzzling closer, I breathed in his scent. Rain... He smelled like rain. He stirred slightly, his voice a sleepy whisper. "You awake?" I shook my head against his chest and mumbled, "No, I'm still sleeping." His arms tightened around me, his fingers gently stroking my long purple hair as he chuckled softly. "Well, we should probably start thinking about getting up. What do you feel like for breakfast?" I considered my options for a moment, the thought of food making me realize just how hungry I was. "Hmmm..." I contemplated, "Maybe waffles..

The morning was crisp, the air cool, but the sun was trying its best to warm the Earth as it occasionally peeked through the clouds. As Tyler drove us toward my aunt's house, I couldn't help but feel the lingering irritation from my encounter with Ryder. My phone buzzed repeatedly, disrupting the quiet comfort of the ride. Looking at the screen, I saw three messages from Ryder. With gritted teeth, I silenced the phone, placing it in my purse and leaving it on the floor beside my feet. I wasn't ready to deal with that. Not yet. We pulled into the driveway of Aunt Mara's house and headed inside, Tyler coming in with me. As we entered, the home shook a little with the rhythmic thumping of Aunt Mara's steps on the treadmill. "Morning, Aunt Mara," I greeted her as I walked into my room. She pulled out one earbud, her sweat-glistened face breaking into a smile. "Morning, hun! How was your evening?" she asked, her eyes twinkling with a knowing curiosity. "Uh... It was good, thanks" I re

Sitting in Tyler's car, I waited patiently for him to say what was on his mind. He drew in a deep breath, his eyes fixed firmly on mine, a seriousness in his gaze that I wasn’t used to. "I need to lay all my cards on the table," he began, his voice steady. "I know there’s a lot going on with Ryder and the whole potential moving situation, and I'm sure our little meeting with Jess is also weighing on your mind. I get that, but I just need you to know where you stand with me, so that it's hopefully one less thing for you to worry about." I nodded, my heart rate picking up as I felt the familiar tug of our mate bond, that undefinable connection that tethered me to him. He continued, "Something changed last night, Kate. When we were in our wolf forms, I felt it. Something just, kind of, clicked into place. I mean, I've felt it since the moment we met, but last night... it was different. Stronger. Undeniable." He paused, searching my face for a reaction. "I can’t explain exactly what ha

Yanking the front door open, my annoyance only grew at the sight of the person on the other side. "Oh... It's you," I said flatly, unable to mask the disdain in my voice. Ryder stood there, his eyes narrowed, a clear accusation in his gaze. "Did you lose your phone?" he asked curtly, his tone sharp. "No, I just don't want to talk to you right now," I replied, my hand already on the door, ready to close it and end this unwanted encounter. But Ryder was too quick. He placed his hand against the door, holding it firmly open. "Well, I do want to talk. We need to work this out," he insisted, his voice steady and serious. His eyes blazed with a determination that told me he'd set his mind on this and he wasn't going to be easily dissuaded. I sighed and rolled my eyes with annoyance before reluctantly stepping outside, pulling the door shut behind me to afford us some privacy from Aunt Mara, who was no doubt watching curiously from the dining table. "So talk," I said sharply as I took a

As I stepped back inside, Aunt Mara's eyes met mine and she gave me a look that said 'I have questions'. "It was Ryder," I stated, as I headed back to the seat I had been occupying just before he'd arrived. "I figured it must have been one of the twins," Aunt Mara replied, gazing back at the door before she penciled in a number on her puzzle. "What did he want?" she asked curiously. I sighed. "We had a bit of an argument earlier. He came to clear the air," I replied, feeling a heaviness settle over me. "That's a good thing, right?" she asked, her eyes settling on me again now with a searching look. "Yeah, it's a good thing," I assured her, clearing my throat as I stared down at the wooden table in front of me. "So... If it's a good thing, why do you look so concerned?" Aunt Mara asked, taking a sip of her wine. "His parents have invited me for dinner tonight," I finally said, my voice tinted with worry. "And you don't want to go?" she probed gently, her brows knitting togeth

  • My Twin Alpha Valentines   Epilogue (about a year later...)

I adjusted my grip on the tiny, squirming bundle in my arms and smiled as a chorus of laughter echoed through the Valentine house."Could you hold her for a sec?" I asked Ryder, shifting Ava into a more comfortable position. "I forgot my phone downstairs.""Absolutely," he replied, his face lighting up as he took her from me.I had to admit, Ryder had surprised me. I’d always known Tyler would step up to fatherhood like it was his destiny, but Ryder… I thought he might need a little more coaxing along the way.To my relief, and, I'll be honest, surprise, that hadn’t been the case at all.Ryder had embraced fatherhood like a natural. Late-night feeds? He was right there with me. Diapers? No problem. Making sure I ate? He was relentless. And the way he loved our daughter, with every fiber of his being... God, it melted my heart daily.Tyler, on the other hand, was exactly the dad I’d known he’d be. He was steady, dependable, and endlessly patient. Where Ryder brought the energy and fun,

"Michael, the guy you wrapped around the pillar? He's Simon's cousin!""What?! How do you know that?" I asked, confused.Tyler replied this time, "Well, when we were leaving, we bumped into Simon in one of those long, winding corridors. He started going off at us asking where we were going and if we had permission to leave, blah blah blah... But Helen shut him down. She told him that the decision had been made and instead of giving us a hard time he should probably go and check on his cousin because the last time she saw him, he didn't look so good.""You should have seen his face," Ryder smirked, chuckling to himself. "He just stood there for a moment, still blocking our path, but then I think something clicked in his head. (Katelyn's POV)The first thing I registered was the sound of hushed voices and the faint smell of lavender. My eyelids felt like they’d been superglued shut, but after what felt like an Olympic-level effort, I finally managed to pry them open.My vision swam, the room around me looking like a watercolor painting that someone had left out in the rain.Where was I? WHO was I? It felt like I had been asleep for a hundred years.I blinked repeatedly, willing my vision to focus, but when it finally did, nothing seemed familiar. It was dark, from what I could tell, and the only light was coming from a lamp somewhere on the other side of the room.I shifted onto my elbow, trying to sit up, but I instantly regretted it. Pain throbbed in my skull, my head spinning like I’d spent hours on some rotating carnival ride. A groan escaped me, and the low murmurs nearby stopped immediately.“Kate?” A voice cut through the haze... Familiar, warm, desperate. My gaze darted toward the sound, and there t

(Katelyn's POV)She was furious, but not with me. I could feel her... like a storm raging inside me, raw and untamed. I waited in the quiet shelter of my own mind, nothing more than an observer as I watched her wrath unfold. It was like witnessing a hurricane from the safety of a bunker, awe and terror warring inside me."We... We didn't know!" the iron-haired woman’s voice quivered, her arms raised defensively, as if they could shield her from the Goddess's divine fury."You didn't know?! You didn't know that you were exploiting them? Or you didn't know that I would care?" the Moon Goddes spoke through my lips, her words flowing like liquid thunder."I... We..." the woman stammered, her eyes darting around desperately, searching for someone, ANYONE, to come to her rescue. But no one did. No one dared to move. They were all frozen like statues in the face of the storm."You will—" the words spilled from my mouth, but I somehow managed to cut them off abruptly when I heard Tyler's angu

(Tyler's POV)"I don't know what to do," Kate whispered, her voice filled with helplessness as she looked up at me while I struggled against the attendants who held me in place."Let him go," she ordered, authority resonating through her voice in a way I'd never heard before. When they hesitated, she glanced toward the man she'd just sent flying through the air like a puppet as some kind of silent warning of her power. That seemed like enough for them to release me.The second I was free, I fell down beside her, desperate to stop the blood that was pouring from Ryder's neck. It was coming out so fast it was clear that they must have gotten an artery, the blood pulsating out of the wound in steady throbs."What do we do?" she whispered, looking to me for answers I didn't have.I reached out, holding my hand over hers in some futile attempt to stop the bleeding, but it was like trying to hold back a flood with a fucking paper towel. His neck was a mangled wreck. (Katelyn's POV)Tyler’s hand trembled as he held it in place over mine, trying desperately to stop the blood that continued to pulse out, albeit at a much slower pace now.His voice was a whisper and it wavered with desperation. "You’re going to be okay, Ryder. You hear me? Just hang on. Just—" he broke off, choking back a sob as his other hand found its way to Ryder’s blood-matted fur as he rubbed him affectionately. He looked at me, his face pale and his eyes swimming with tears that he tried uselessly to blink away.“Kate...” His voice cracked, barely audible above the rapid, shallow breaths of his brother. “The bleeding... it’s too much. He’s not healing fast enough.”His words struck me like a dagger to the chest. I'd thought it, but hearing him say it out loud made it real.“What are you saying?!” I cried, my voice raw and broken as I gripped Ryder’s limp paw, shaking it in hopes of some kind of reaction. My vision blurred as I let the tears spill down my cheeks. “Is he going to

I stammered, trying to form words into sentences, but my brain couldn't do it.All I could do was stare at him, still reeling from the fact that one second I had been kneeling beside Ryder, trying to help him, and the next, I was being violently shaken by a man who seemed to have gone full psycho."Katelyn?!" What are the potential outcomes here?!” I demanded. "Even criminals on trial know what potential penalties they'll be facing! Why can't I be afforded the same courtesy?! Are you going to impose some kind of limitations on me and my abilities? Or do you plan to lock me in a prison cell? Or maybe a tower in the middle of nowhere? Are you going to kill me? Seriously, what options are on the table here?!" I pressed, annoyed by how fucking evasive she was being. It felt like they had already made up their minds here.
